ANDREWS — Don Hoffman Sr., 79, of Andrews, a former district manager for Baker Tools, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Alliance Hospital in Odessa.

He was born in Spring Creek. He was a 60-year resident of Andrews. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

MIDLAND — C.J. “Shorty” Schmelzer, 87, of Midland, a retired oil field worker, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, in Midland.

Ruth Ann Smith
MONAHANS — Ruth Ann Crumpton Smith of Monahans went to be with the Lord on Dec. 4, 2003. Ruth Ann passed away at home after a lengthy illness. She was born to Bryan and Dorothy Crumpton on June 24, 1934, in San Antonio. She married
Clyde Smith, Jr. on April 3, 1953, in Odessa. April of 2003 marked their 50th wedding anniversary.
Ruth Ann is survived by her husband, Clyde, of Monahans. A daughter, Melissa Dutton and husband, Chris of Monahans. Her son, Wade Smith and wife, Jeanette, also of Monahans. Also a brother, Jerry Crumpton of Cleburne and a sister/cousin, Mae Avery and husband Jim, of Bandera. Ruth Ann also has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A resident of Monahans since 1973, Ruth Ann was a member of the Methodist Church and was active in the Wednesday Study Club for several years. She also taught school for 15 years, teaching Physical Education and Third Grade. Ruth Ann enjoyed reading, crafts, collecting antiques, bird watching (especially hummingbirds) and nature. While at their Fort Davis retreat, Clyde and Ruth Ann experienced the second confirmed sighting of the White Eared Hummingbird in the State of Texas since 1932. Ruth Ann was very excited and proud of this opportunity to watch this particular hummingbird.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Dorothy Crumpton, and a brother, Joe. Craig Rhoton, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, will lead family and friends in celebrating Ruth Ann’s life, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the Southside Baptist Church of Monahans. Burial will follow in Monahans Memorial cemetery. Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.
Andrew Jackson Follis Jr.
ODESSA — Andrew Jackson Follis Jr., age 80, of Odessa, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, in Big Spring. He was born March 4, 1923, in Sparenburg, Texas, to Andrew and Mable Follis.
A family visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dave Adkins officiating. Interment will be held in Colorado City at 3 p.m.
Mr. Follis married
Willie M. Strickland, June 2, 1975, in Odessa. He was a truck driver for Merchants for many years before his retirement. He always took time for children, veterans and the elderly.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Follis of Odessa; son, Thomas Follis of Odessa; daughters, Darlene Yow and companion Robert Doll of San Angelo, Tammie Jenkins and husband Jimmy of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Fran Chastian and husband Robert of Paron, Ark.; brothers, George Follis of Lubbock, Johnny Follis of Colorado, Luther “Lee” Follis of North Bergen, N.J., Sheridan Follis of Mesquite; sister, Ollie Beck of Lubbock; grandchildren, Denise, Nathan and Terri; and four great-grandchildren.
If desired, memorials may be made to the San Angelo Boys Ranch.
