Willie Jean Whitten
ODESSA — Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother left this world on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003. She passed away at Hospice House with loved ones at her side. She fought a good fight, but she was tired and it was time to go home.
Jean was born Dec. 19, 1931, in Bodcaw, Ark., to Ira and Bert Cassidy. She graduated from Bodcaw High School in 1949, salutatorian of her class. She moved to Odessa in the summer of 1950 to marry her high school sweetheart. Jean Cassidy and Terry Whitten were married
on Aug. 8, 1950: a union that has lasted over 53 years. Jean and Terry have two children, Terry Michael Whitten and B. Diane Parker.
As a young wife and mother, Jean accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized by Brother Wolfe at Sherwood Baptist Church. For many years she was active in adult and children’s programs at Sherwood. Jean’s life centered around her home, family and friends. She loved gardening and one of her greatest pleasures was sharing plants and flowers from her yard. She was energetic and loving and always set goals for each day. She gave of her time and energy to whoever needed it. Her grandson Jarrett was the light of her life and received much of her loving attention.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her beloved sister Margie Saunders. She is survived by her husband Terry, her son and daughter-in-law Terry Michael and Regena Whitten of Denver; her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Steve Parker of Odessa and grandson Jarrett Whitten Parker.
