Barbara Sue Bell
ODESSA — Barbara Sue Jackson Bell, of Odessa, Texas, passed on to be with our Father in Heaven on Sunday, November 16, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was 60.
Barbara was born on October 23, 1943, to Mildred Ann and Aubrey Alonza Jackson (a Baptist preacher) in Morton, Mississippi.
Barbara moved to Odessa in 1973 after visiting her Aunt Helen Vail and cousins Tony and Danny. Barbara will be missed by her many friends and acquaintances from T&E Builders Suppy, Dixie Electric, Nurses Unlimited and her elderly care home.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, James Bell of Odessa; daughters Tami, Christi, and Susan; grandsons Devin and Blake; sister Brenda and husband Ben Ware of Meridian, Miss.; aunts Benice Smith of Brookhaven, Miss., Lynn Webley and husband Bill of Placerville, Calif.; Uncle Arless Jackson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews who loved her and whom she loved dearly. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday November 20, 2003, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev Curtis Brewer officiating. Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
The family requests that memorials be made to Home Hospice, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
Richard Kendall Dotson
ODESSA — Richard Kendall Dotson went to be with the good Lord on Monday, November 17, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. at the age of 47. He died due to complications from a traffic accident.
He was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle and stepfather.
Richard was born and raised in Odessa. He went to school here and graduated from Permian High School in 1973. He was with TOPS, The Moose Lodge, The American Legion, a lifetime member of VFW and taught ceramics at the Northside Senior Citizens Center. He was an artist/sculptor by trade.
He had many friends and never knew a stranger. His smile brightened the room when he entered it.
Richard and Gloria were married
August 31, 2002, in Poetry, Texas. They had met each other through a TOPS State Convention meeting. They moved to Porter, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, his father Carl N. Dotson Sr. of Odessa, his brother Carl N. Dotson Jr. and wife Judy of Olton, Texas, his sister, Mary Carldene Thurman of Odessa, his stepsons, Dave Haskins and wife Gina of New Caney, Neal Haskins and wife Laura of New Caney, Texas.
He has four nephews, two nieces, four step-grandchildren, one great-niece, a number of cousins, and Aunt Rowena Nunn of Amarillo, Texas.
Memorial services are scheduled at Odessa Funeral Home, Saturday, November 22, 2003, 1700 N. Jackson at 5 p.m. in the chapel.
The Rev. Jimmy Hull will be officiating.
Billy Gene Overton
MONAHANS — Billy Gene Overton was born June 1, 1934, to John R. Overton Sr. and Eula Fannin Overton in Big Spring, Texas.
Bill went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday Nov. 18th, 2003.
He was the owner of H&O Operating Co., Inc.
He is survived by his wife Melodee Overton of the home, two children, Wyatt Lynn Overton of Lewisville, Donna Overton of Mesa, Az., two grandchildren Shannon
and Jon, three brothers and one sister, J.R. Overton of Denton, Ruth Connally of Monahans, Lewis Overton of Crane and Fred Overton of Carthage.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monahans.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday Nov. 21, 2003 at First Baptist Church in Monahans at 504 S. Alice.
Covan ‘Shorty’ C. Chapman
ODESSA — Covan “Shorty” C. Chapman, age 81, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Hospice House. He was born July 22, 1922, in Rush Springs, Okla.
Mr. Chapman served 33 months in the Navy in WWII. He married
Laura Collier, Jan. 23, 1945, in Roswell, N.M. They moved to Odessa Feb. 6, 1950. He retired as an Air Drilling Consultant.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Garner of Houston; sons, Richard A. Chapman of Thibodaux, La., and Covan C. Chapman Jr. of San Antonio; sister, Muriel Rogers of Santa Fe, N.M.; and brother, Gary Lee Chapman of Arlington.
Family visitation will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Avis Colleen Ferguson
ODESSA — Avis Colleen Ferguson, 61, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1942, in Bismarck, N.D. She married
Orville Ferguson Aug. 1, 1958, in Odessa. She worked with her husband in his business for a number of years and also worked for the Ector County Youth Center.
She is survived by her husband, Orville Ferguson of Odessa; daughter, Michelle Ann Woody of Dripping Springs; and grandson, Eric Woody.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Alexander Lee Garza
ODESSA — Alexander Lee Garza, 21, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at University Medical Center Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., from an automobile accident.
Alexander was born Oct. 2, 1983, in Midland to father Fred Garza and mother Mary Garza and was a Catholic. He was in the U.S. Air Force.
Rosary will be said Friday Nov. 28, 2003, at Martinez Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Saturday Nov. 29, 2003, at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Arturo Bestin officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
Survivors: Wife, Rita Garza of Arlington; son, Alexander Anthony Garza of Arlington; parents, Fred and Mary Garza, both of Arlington; one brother, Roman Garza of Arlington; two sisters, Samantha Deleon and Tammy Garza, both of Arlington; one stepsister, Rosa Vela of Arlington; 10 uncles; and nine aunts.

Bill Rusk
LUBBOCK — Funeral services for Billy Lee Rusk, 76, of Lubbock, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Bethany Baptist Church with Kevin O’Brien officiating and Ross Spencer assisting. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Garden cemetery in Odessa. Bill departed this life on Nov. 24, 2003, in Lubbock.
He was born on April 8, 1927, in Canyon. He married
Mary Frances Kimbrough in Lovington, N.M., in 1954. He served our country proudly in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for the T&P Railroad in Big Spring and Midland. In 1960, Bill and Mary moved to Lubbock where he was employed with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce for 27 years. He was also Traffic Manager for the Chamber’s Transportation Department. Bill was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a lifelong member of the VFW. He will always be remembered as a very loving and caring husband and father.
His father, Clem Earnest Rusk; his mother, Sarah Ann Beisch and his brother Lewis Burton Rusk precede him in death. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Rusk; his sister, Madeline Murphy and her husband Bob Murphy; four sons, Billy Lee Rusk Jr. of Lubbock, Thomas Lynn Rusk of Lubbock, Troy Wayne Rusk of Merkel and Roy Blaine Rusk of Lubbock; two daughters, Carolyn Archuleta of Odessa and Janie Campbell of Odessa; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His strong character and gentle wisdom will be greatly missed by us all.
Jay G. Shinn
LUBBOCK — Services for Jay G. Shinn, 37, of Lubbock, will be Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at 2 p.m. at St John’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Boren officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ann Alleson and the Rev. Dave Treat.
Jay died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, after a brief illness at University Medical Center in Lubbock surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Perryton, Texas, March 23, 1966. He graduated from Permian High School in 1984. Jay married
Shara Fredenburg in March 1991. After graduating with a degree in architecture from Texas Tech in 1991, he worked at THE Design in Austin. He was Senior Project Manager for the Health Care Studio at Parkhill Smith and Cooper in Lubbock. Jay was a member of the Leadership Lubbock class of 2001-‘02. Jay’s designs included Harrington Cancer Center, UMC 5th and 6th Floor Expansion, the UMC Southwest Cancer Center expansion and Midland College Aaron Medical Science Center.
Jay was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Jillian. Jay is survived by his wife, Shara; three sons, Keaton, Hayden and Christian; his parents, Wayne and Ann Shinn of Odessa; his brother and sister-in-law, Kim and Nan Shinn of Nashville; his brother and sister-in-law, Kurt and Robin, and his nephews, Zachary and Jacob Shinn of Odessa; his mother- and father-in-law, Andrea and Johnny Fredenburg of Lubbock; his sister-in-law, Stacy Fredenburg of Lubbock; and his brother-in-law, Kim Fredenburg of Dallas. Phyllis Ann Jones
ODESSA — Phyllis Ann Jones, of Odessa, passed away on Nov. 29, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 55.
Phyllis was born on Oct. 25, 1948, in Phoenix, Ariz. Phyllis was married
to Carlos Jones on Nov. 19, 1984.
Phyllis loved shopping, especially for shoes. She also loved collecting things that were designed in the southwest theme. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Northside Baptist Church in Odessa with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Carlos Jones of Odessa; son, Rodney Fryou and wife Shelia of Odessa; daughter, Patricia Duren and husband Chris of Blair, Okla.; parents, Doug and Paulone Fellers of Odessa; brothers, Dennis Lamb and wife LouAnn of Anahuac and Marvin “Butch” Lamb and wife Helen of Odessa; sisters, Sandra Stanley and husband Marvin of Odessa and Linda Dorsett and husband Kenneth of Odessa; grandchildren, Dustin, Austin, Amber, Sean and Sarah; and 14 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Randolph Terrell Brown.

Clyde E. Pyle
ODESSA — Clyde E. Pyle, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Avalon Nursing Home.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1915, in Applesprings, Texas, to Uria and Nora Pyle.
Clyde retired from Shell Refinery after 34 years of service. He was a devoted Christian and Honorary Deacon of Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, where he attended for more than 30 years.
Clyde married
Shirley in 1935, and they raised and loved four children, J.E., Carrolle, Patsy and Eddie.
After Shirley’s death in 1966, he married
Edna Bond in 1967, in Odessa.
There, they joined their families together to create a loving home for 10 children, 34 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; parents, Uria and Nora; sons, Carrolle and Eddie; daughter, Patsy; and several grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, J.E. Pyle of Marshall, Jim Bond of Midland, Leon Bond of Odessa, Bonita Hill of Midland, Larry Bond of Midland, Janella Berlin of Odessa and Jennifer Grant of Midland.
Clyde never met a stranger, was an avid Bible reader and could carry on a conversation to make any female jealous. God and Clyde’s family always came first in life. There was always a smile when you entered his home, and if you were lucky enough to be a grandchild, he always had a dollar with your name on it.
Clyde will be missed by all his loving family and friends, “until we meet again ...”

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in Mount Zion cemetery near Applesprings, Texas. Clyde’s brother, Ben Pyle, will officiate the graveside service.
The family suggests memorials to Home Hospice in Odessa.
