Tommy Purcell
ODESSA — Tommy Purcell, 67, of Odessa passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2004. He was born Dec. 8, 1936, in Monahans. He was a U.S. Navy and Army veteran of the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban Missle Crisis. He had worked as an electrician for the E.C.I.S.D. for seven years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra Purcell of Odessa; four sons, Thomas David Purcell of Iraan, James Edward Purcell of Portland, Ore., Christopher Douglas Purcell and Eugene Michael ‘Bo’ Purcell, both of Odessa; brothers, Teddy Joe Purcell and Johnny Purcell, both of Waxahachie, Charlie Purcell of Greeley, Colo., and Billy Purcell of Fresno, Calif.; sister, Marjorie Smelser of Odessa and five grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica, Dustin, Ashlynn and Thomas.
The family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Rev. Ted Purcell officiating.

Dorthy Marie Akin
ODESSA — Dorthy Marie Akin, age 77, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Dorthy was born July 11, 1926, in Solway, Minn., to Leo J. Raiter and Evelyn Herrick Raiter.
She moved to Wink, Texas, in 1947. She married
Johnnie A. Brooks, and they had two children. On Dec. 11, 1964, she married
Jim Akin in Crane, Texas. They enjoyed 16 years of marriage together until his passing on March 29, 1981. She worked for Cagle Fishing Tool Company for 10 years. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle Auxiliary 2914 of Odessa.
She is survived by her loving companion, Calvin Wester of Odessa; sisters, Patricia Zimmerman of Wisconsin and Audree Norton of Minnesota; brothers, William Raiter of Minnesota, Bernard Raiter of Illinois and Richard Raiter of Virginia; daughter, Vikki Brooks Thiebaud of Odessa; daughter-in-law Penelope Hopkins of San Diego, Calif.; step-children, James Akin Jr. of Andrews and Ruby Helen Smith of Andrews; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Raiter; sister, Myrna Raiter; and her son, Johnny Ricky Brooks.

Elisabeth Ensey
SPUR — Elisabeth Ensey, 83, died peacefully Dec. 17, 2003, in Olympia, Wash., where she had resided with her daughter Sandy since 1992.
She was born Elisabeth Powell on July 25, 1920, in Dickens, Texas, to Judge
Walter Powell and Aurora Archer Powell.
Elisabeth graduated from Spur High School in 1938 and attended Texas Tech. On Oct. 12, 1941, she married
childhood sweetheart, Minyard Ensey. Following World War II, they settled in Odessa, where they owned and operated Ensey Drug from 1951 to 1971.
Minyard preceded her in death in 1976.
During her 45 years in Odessa, she was active in Hospice, the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary, the Rebekah Lodge, Parker Heights Christian Church and Antioch Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughter Sandy Hollingshead of Olympia; and grandchildren, Misty of Los Angeles, Kristopher of Norman, Okla., and Mindy of Colorado Springs, Colo.
One brother, Archer Powell, preceded her in death in 1982.
Elisabeth’s memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 17, 2004, in the Round Up Chapel in the First Methodist Church in Spur.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Spur Ex-Students Scholarship Fund or the Spur cemetery Care Fund.
Dorothy ‘Dot’ Mae Kite
ODESSA — Dorothy “Dot” Mae Kite, age 80, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Aug. 23, 1923, to Adebert and Ruth Goff in Lincoln, Neb. She moved from Montana to Odessa in 1955.
Dot married
Billy Kite on April 13, 1972, in Odessa. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Her son, Jerry Bell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Kite, of Odessa; daughter, Candy Knightstep and Glen Lawson of Odessa; grandchildren, Nova Montgomery, Crystal Bell, Cory Lawson and Cody Lawson; and great-grandchildren, Shelbi and Austyn Montgomery.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Troy George Lasater
ODESSA — Troy George Lasater, age 96, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Troy was born Jan. 1, 1908, in Brandsville, Miss., to George Ruben and Anna Tiner Lasater.
Troy is survived by Louise (Stanfield), his wife of 73 years; his brother, Dick Lasater of Bartlesville, Okla; sister, Pauline Perrier of Tulsa, Okla; sister, Jenny Braden of Borger, Texas; son, Jerry Lasater and wife Flo of Weslaco, Texas; and daughter, Deanna Starkey and husband Ken of Larkspur, Colo. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; beloved son, Charles Lasater; brothers, Russell, Harry, Arthur (Blackie) and Charles (Chock); and sister Mildred.
Troy retired in 1973 after 43 years of service with Phillips Petroleum Co. He served as President of the school board in Andrews, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club.
Troy and Louise lived in Odessa for many years and had lived in Donna, Texas, just prior to moving to Colorado Springs, Colo.
Troy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He and Louise traveled in their motorhome with other “Philresters” many times during their retirement. He tended a garden and mowed his lawn well into his 90s.
Troy was a kind, gentle man with many friends and loved ones. He always worried about others and their happiness. His humility, honesty, faith and integrity were always apparent and his commitment to his wife and family will always be an inspiration. Although he lived a long and wonderful life, he will be dearly missed and always remembered in our hearts.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13th at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Odessa. Burial will follow immediately at Sunset Memorial Garden cemetery.

Praxedis Gonzales Madrid
ODESSA — Praxedis Gonzales Madrid, 100, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Mrs. Madrid was a Catholic and was born March 15,
1903, in Presidio to father, Laurencio Gonzales, and mother, Isidra Gonzales, who both preceded her in death.
A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at 922 Edgeport in North Ranchito in Odessa. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at San Juan Catholic Church with Father Mark Woodrow officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Juana M. Rivas, Francis M. Lujan, Manuela M. Gonzales and Antonia M. Ramirez, all from Odessa; two sons, Diego G. Madrid and Andy G. Madrid, both from Odessa; 44 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; and 78 great-great-grandchildren.

Eululia H. Natividad
ODESSA — Eululia H. Natividad, 86, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Ruidosa, Texas, to Federico and Maria Hinojos. She married
Rudolfo B. Natividad Jan. 4, 1931. She was a Christian Catholic and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; six grandchildren, Albert Jr. Barrera, Rudolfo “Rudy” Olivas, Larry Natividad, Ernie Granado, Gilbert Gonzales and Nickie Natividad; one great-grandchild, Lisa Granado; and two sons, Elias and Raul Natividad.
She is survived by sons, Severo H. Natividad of Mesa, Ariz., Zack H. Natividad and wife Virginia, Salvador H. Natividad and wife Amada and Robert H. Natividad and wife Irene, all from Odessa; six daughters, Ramona Granado and husband Arnulfo of Pecos, Ruperta Barrera and husband Albert, Juana Guzman and husband Cruz, Tonia Gonzales and husband Cipriano, Rachel Nichols and husband Hector and Gloria H. Natividad, all from Odessa; 44 grandchildren’ 130 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Ismael Barrera, Micheal Guzman, Arnulfo Granado, Daniel Natividad, Robert Lee Natividad and Jaime Hinojos.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Trini Fuentes officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
“She was a loving and caring person. She enjoyed herself by being outdoors and working in her yard, and being around her dogs. She was loved and appreciated by the ones that surrounded her.

Romeo Trevino Sr.
ODESSA — Funeral mass for Romeo Trevino Sr. of Odessa will be at 1 p.m. today at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Jose Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Trevino passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born to Rafael and Fransica Trevino Feb. 8, 1940, in Rio Grande City. He married
Prajedes Granado Sept. 26, 1959, in Odessa. He has been a resident of Odessa since 1955 and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of Odessa; his children, Romeo Trevino Jr. and wife Betty, Javier Trevino and wife Angie, Rafael Trevino and wife Elaine, Mary Lou Acosta and husband Alejandro, Teresa Trevino, Josephine Munoz and husband Danny, all of Odessa; brothers, Lorenzo Garcia, Leonel Garcia, Rodolfo Trevino, Rene Trevino, all of Rio Grande City, and Rafael Trevino Jr. of McAllen; sisters, Antonia Carrion, Rafaela Guerra and Margarita Garza, all of Rio Grande City, and Paula Garcia of Odessa; grandchildren, Eric Acosta, Steven Munoz, Jennifer Trevino, Rafael Trevino, Jonathan Trevino, Justin Trevino, Xavier Trevino, Matthew Munoz and Emma Rae Trevino; and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Mendoza.
Romeo was preceded in death by his parents.
Earl C. Ballew
ODESSA — Earl C. Ballew, age 82, of Odessa, went to be with his heavenly Father on Jan. 1, 2004, at his residence. He was surrounded by his family.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will immediately follow at First Church of the Nazarene.
A family visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, Jan. 4, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Earl was born on May 10, 1921, in Gainesville, TX. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II.
On Feb. 2, 1947, he married
Emma Louise Vardeman and enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Earl was a dental technician for 54 years and owned Ballew Dental Lab locally. He was a very loving husband and father. His consuming love and close relationship with his grandchildren brought him a great amount of joy and contentment during his later years.
Earl is survived by his wife, Louise; sons, Dennis and wife Darlene and Steve and wife Terri; grandchildren, Jana Smith, Christy Noble, Mike Ballew, Keri Ballew and Scott Ballew. Earl is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Frampton; and a brother, Charles Bailey. He had three great-grandchildren.
