Eudoxia ‘Dot’ Reed
MIDLAND — Eudoxia “Dot” Reed passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in Midland.
She was born Oct. 15, 1925, to Andrew and Bessie Berry in Rusk, Texas. Dot grew up in Rusk and attended local schools. She married
Jewel Reed in 1942 in Jacksonville, Texas. Dot worked as a bookkeeper with Evans Floor Covering in Odessa, Texas, for many years.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Reed and wife Jan of Midland, Texas; her daughter, Martha E. Reed of Midland; her granddaughter, Marianne Gilles and husband Danny of The Colony, Texas; and her grandsons, Andrew R. Reed and wife Michelle of The Colony and Robert Reed of Lubbock, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home. Arrangements in Midland are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 24, 2004, at Earles Chapel cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas.
Dr. Don O. Snyder
ODESSA — Dr. Don O. Snyder, 70, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Pampa, Texas, to Roy and Mabel Snyder.
Dr. Snyder was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, after which he attended the University of New Mexico receiving his Bachelor of Science degree. He later attended the University of Arizona receiving his Master’s degree, then returned to the University of New Mexico where he earned a Ph.D. in geology.
In 1977, he moved to Odessa, and after being employed at Odessa Natural, he became self-employed working as a consulting geologist in the oil and gas industry.
His interests included hunting, fishing, flying his Cessna 182, drilling oil wells and spending time with friends in Tucson, Ariz.
He was survived by his longtime companion, Janet Johnston; his daughters, Linda Murphy and husband David; Kim Tyler and husband Tim and Valerie LeMay; and five grandchildren.

Florence J. Richey
ODESSA — Florence J. Richey, 81, a longtime resident of Odessa, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Lois Owens Retirement Home. Florence was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Edward A. Richey and Ann Opresco Richey.
Florence was a secretary in Pittsburgh, later moving to Odessa in the late ’50s. She was a salesperson for Odessa Nursery. All who knew and loved her knew her as the Rose Lady.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ann Richey; sister, Agnes O’Dell; and uncle, Alf Richey.
Florence is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Theloa and Ben Barrow; niece, Patricia Anschutz and husband, Jim; great-nephew, Barrow Anschutz and family; great-niece, Leslie Schmachtenberger and family; and three great-great-nieces.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Deacon Alan Neff officiating.

Escolastico Bustamante
ODESSA — Escolastico “El Rey” Bustamante, 71, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the Hospice House. He was born May 24, 1932, in Presidio to Escolastico Sr. and Eloisa E. Bustamante. He was a Christian Catholic and a truck driver. Mr. Bustamante was preceded in death by his parents. Five brothers, Manuel, Alberto, Abel, Juan, and Escolastico Bustamante Jr. Three sisters, Thomasa Barriga, Dolores Alvarez and Amelia Espinoza.
He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe A. Bustamante of Odessa; son, Manuel Bustamante of Odessa; daughters, Eva B. Duran of Odessa, Eloisa Hernandez of Odessa, Belsora B. Lara of Odessa and Monica Bustamante of Odessa; sisters, Eva Chavez of Odessa, Amelia Barriga of Presidio; 13 grandchildren: Leo Hernandez, Victoria Hernandez, Chris Hernandez, Emily Hernandez, Jose A. Duran, Krystal B. Duran, Reynaldo B. Duran, Jasmine M. Bustamante, Melinda S. Bustamante, Breanna Rae B. Ramirez, Daniel J. Bustamante, Gabriela Eva T. Bustamante, Kriselda E. Lara; and one great-grandchild: Destiny Rivas; and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
We, the family, would like to express our utmost sincere gratitude to the staff at Home Hospice and the Hospice House especially to Georgia and Dina, for the wonderful care that was given to our beloved Father and Grandfather.

Curtis R. Hays
MIDLAND — Curtis R. Hays, 77, of Midland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004.
He was born Oct. 17, 1926, to David and Lola Hays in Turkey, Texas. He was reared from the age of twelve, in Monahans. After graduating from Monahans High School in 1947, he attended business school in Abilene. In 1989, he retired after 42 years of dedicated service to Texaco. He was an active member of Crestview Baptist Church.
Curtis was a talented wood worker who produced one-of-a-kind pieces. He was generous and gave his work to various individuals and churches. Each member of his family and many friends received personally designed works from his shop, which were all made with many hours of love. One of these pieces, designed with a Lone Star, was presented to President and Mrs. Bush.
Curtis was a dedicated and affectionate husband and friend. He was loved by many and devoted to all. He had a special love and relationship with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters. He was lovingly called “Grandaddy” and “Poppa.”
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha, who he married
in 1948; his parents and five brothers.
Curtis is survived by his wife of almost 23 years, Nadine Hays of Midland; two daughters, Lola Swint and husband, Jerry, of Trenton, Mo.; Cathy Landon and husband, Jerry, of New York City; two stepchildren, Sharon Gaines and husband, Gary, of Abilene; Larry Hicks and wife, Treva, of Sequin; sister, Opal Battel of Mineral Wells; four grandchildren, Andy Swint and fiancée, Brandy Payne of Bakersfield, Calif.; Nancy Swint of Waco and fiancé Mark Henke of Austin; Bradley Gaines and wife, Debbie, of Wichita Falls; Nicole Strader and husband, Glen, of Abilene; four great-granddaughters, Avery, Bailey, and Parker Strader and Ainsley Gaines.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Crestview Baptist Church with Dr. John Gerlach officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas.

Cleofas ‘Don Nico’ Nicolas
ODESSA — Cleofas “Don Nico” Nicolas, 76, of Odessa, passed away Jan. 10, 2004, at Osteopathic Medical Center Hospital in Fort Worth. He was born Dec. 15, 1927, in Mancuernas, Oaxaca, Mexico, to Abelino and Florentina N. Nicolas. United in marriage to Abundia Romero Aug. 5, 1949, in Ojinaga, Mexico. He was a Christian Catholic and worked in the oil field Industry. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Abundia R. Nicolas of Odessa; sons, Mario Nicolas and wife Sabina of Odessa, Jorge Nicolas and wife Luz Bella of Odessa, Julian Nicolas and wife Cecilia of Pinotepa, Oaxaca, Mexico, Camilo Nicolas and wife Maria of Odessa, Apolonio Nicolas and wife Maria of Odessa, Evaristo Nicolas and wife Alejandra of Odessa, Emilio Nicolas and wife Margarita of Odessa; daughters, Manuela Nicolas of Ojinaga, Lourdes Guerra and husband Osvaldo of Des Moines, Iowa, Reynalda Nicolas Viruel of Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico; sister, Emeteria Nicolas of Mancuernas; grandchildren: 43, great-grandchildren: 33.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Udegbaum and Deacon Jesse Ortiz officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.

Ida Rita Nix
ODESSA — Ida Rita Nix of Odessa passed away Jan. 14, 2004, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Ida was born Oct. 5, 1905, in Coleman to Dicy Jane and Samuel Madison Collins. She married
Cecil William Nix in December of 1926 who preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1969. Ida devoted her life to guiding and nurturing others. She worked at Buckner’s Children’s Home in Lubbock. She loved family and enjoyed cooking for them on all special occasions. Her homemade rolls and fried pies were her specialty and the family enjoyed eating whatever she cooked. She was referred to as “the glue that holds the family together.” Ida will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Venita Fields of Odessa; son, Don Nix and wife, Debra of La Marque; grandchildren, Deb Lee and husband, Ken of Tulsa, Okla., Kyle Nix of Jacksonville, Fla., Clay Nix of Slidell, La., Charity Nelson and husband, Jason of Hattiesburg, Miss.; great-granddaughter, Alicia Syverson and husband, Mike of Odessa; great-great-granddaughter, Kaytlin Syverson and sister, Opal Baker of Victorville, Calif.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17 in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Graveside services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Olga Ward
ODESSA — Olga Ward, 79, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Horton, Kan., to Henry and Helen Burger. Olga married
Jack L. Ward Sr. on Feb. 12, 1944. They moved to Odessa in 1948 and owned and operated Independent Machine until they retired in 1977. She was a member of the Ector County Home Demonstration Club for many years and enjoyed her hobby of crocheting. She especially enjoyed crocheting Christmas ornaments for her kids and grandkids. Olga was also a member of the cookies for servicemen in Vietnam group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ward Sr. and son, Stephen Daryl Ward. She is survived by her sons, Gary Ward and wife Carol of Odessa, Jack Ward Jr. and wife Deanie of Odessa, James Ward and wife Renee of Addington, Okla.; daughters, Carol Ramsey and husband Johnny, Sherry Wade and Janet Ward, all of Odessa; sisters, Elsie Cowell of Blackwell, Okla., Ida Erdley of Wichita, Kan. and Paula Burger of Goddard, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly by all her family and many friends.
The family will hold visitation 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

John Wendell Postelle
ODESSA — John Wendell Postelle died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas. Wendell was born in Wehatta, N.C., Aug. 1, 1908, to C.N. and Florence Mae West Postelle. He married
Edna Blalock in 1931 and they moved to the West Texas oilfields in 1937 to work for Fred Postelle. In 1948, he moved back to Odessa.
Wendell owned and operated Postelle Rod Service until he retired. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a Master Mason.
At age 95, Wendell still enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills as a sportsman and outdoorsman with his family and friends.
Wendell is preceded in death by his first wife Edna, his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Hootie Heaton Postelle. Together Wendell and Hootie loved to travel, fish, hunt and play golf.
Wendell is also survived by one daughter, Jo Freeman and her husband, Darrel, of Santa Rosa, N.M.; one son, Roddy Postelle and his wife, Eva, of San Antonio, Texas; two stepchildren, Stephen Thompson of Odessa and Peggy Gaitan and her husband, Robert, of New Braunfels, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Sunset Memorial Mausoleum. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home.
Bobby Ray Grimes
CUSHING, Okla. — Bobby Ray Grimes, age 76, of Odessa, passed away on Dec. 30 2003, at Regency Hospital in Odessa.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Fairlawn cemetery in Cushing, Okla.
Bobby was born on June 28, 1927, in Maramec, Okla., to Cecil L. Grimes and Marie Lochary Grimes. He moved to Odessa in 1951 to work in the oil field. He was in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He moved to Venezuela and Colombia in 1958 and worked in South America until his retirement in 1997.
On June 20, 1981, he married
the love of his life, Mary Molina in Odessa. They enjoyed 22 wonderful years of marriage together.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Grimes of Odessa; daughter, Elizabeth Atkinson of Odessa; sons, German Cardenas and Oscar Cardenas, both of Bogota, Colombia; grandchildren, Tracee Robinson of Odessa, Brad Dunnam of Odessa and Valeria Cardenas and Mario Fernando Cardenas, both of Bogota, Colombia; great-grandchildren, Chelcee Robinson, Zachary Robinson and Taylor Jones, all of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Marie Grimes.
