Dr. Daniel Cepero

ODESSA — Dr. Daniel Cepero was born July 23, 1960, in Cienfuegos, Cuba, to Dr. and Mrs. Rafael Cepero. He passed away much too soon on Nov. 25, 2003.
During his 43 years, Daniel lived a full, robust and happy life. Other than to attend college and medical school, Daniel has lived the majority of his life in the Odessa area. He graduated from Baylor College of Medicine. Daniel married Susan Murphy in January 1991 in Houston at St John Vianney’s Catholic Church. They have two children, Evgenia, 12, and Daniel, 11.
He is “Dr. Dan” to his patients; “Bubba” to his immediate family; and “Sweet Pea” to his wife. He was a devout Catholic. Some of his favorite pastimes were reading, fishing, collecting antique baby bottles, Web surfing, fantasy football and calling his brother. He loved fishing with his son, Daniel, at the ranch and going out on a date with his daughter Genia. He was loved by all for his kindness, generosity and zest for life. We will miss him. The following excerpt from an interview he gave his niece, Laurel Cepero, in 2001 for a school project best resonates who he is:
Interview with Dr. Daniel (Bubba)
Dr. Cepero is a local pediatrician who has been living and working in Odessa for 11 years. He works 10 to 11 hours a day, and his favorite part of the day is coming home to his family. He has adopted two children and has been married for 10 years. Most of his elementary and high school schooling has been done in Odessa also. His favorite place in Odessa is the UTPB duck pond. He attended Odessa College, UT at Arlington and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. If he could change anything about Odessa, he would add a huge lake so he could spend his weekends fishing. If he had one day where he could do anything in Odessa he would stay home and unplug the phone. If he could go anywhere in the world he would go to Rome. His favorite thing about Odessa is that it is not Midland. (HEEHEE). His favorite part about his job is taking care of the kids that keep him entertained. Something that would surprise other people about himself is that he was once sent home from Permian because he had too much hair. (He is now seriously considering a toupee.) If he had to describe himself using five adjectives he would say: handsome, intelligent, suave, witty, and debonair. His favorite day of his life was when he was born. He decided to become a doctor because his father was one, he developed an interest and he was good in science.
Besides his wife, Susan, and his two children, Daniel and Genia, Daniel is also survived and loved by his two sisters, Mary Crews and Teresa Stiglich; and his brother, a local physician, Ralph Cepero and his wife, Pam; as well as his beloved mother, Maria Teresa Cepero. Mary and her husband, Jack, have two children, Jonathan and Austin. Jonathan is married to Lindsey Vogler. Teresa is married to George Stiglich and has one son, Jared Fridley. Ralph has three children, Laurel, Robert and Madeline. In addition, Daniel is survived by sister-in-law, Julie, and her husband, Rick Ricarte, and children, Monica and Alex; brother-in-law, Mike Murphy with fiancée Diane Ditchman, and children Andrew Murphy, Lauren and Jonathan Ditchman; sister-in-law, Barbara with her husband. David William Archer, and children, Steven and Sarah; and brother-in-law, Thomas Murphy, all from Houston Texas; and brother-in-law, Edward Murphy with his wife, Rachael, and child, Isabella, from Covington, La.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. A private family burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Odessa or St Mary’s Central Catholic School.
