Billie Jean Tierce
ODESSA — Billie Jean Jarrett Rhodes Tierce, 71, unexpectedly passed away at her home on Monday, September 1, 2003.
Billie was born March 14, 1932, to Wilbur and Louise Jarrett in Odessa, Texas. She graduated from OHS and was a lifelong resident of Penwell and Odessa. In 1950 she married
J. Lowell Rhodes and later married
Ronald Tierce in 1976.
Billie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and great-grandmother. After retirement from bookkeeping, she enjoyed cooking, sewing and homemaking. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild brought her immense joy. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Louise Jarrett, stepmother, Lucille Jarrett; her son, Jerry Rhodes, and infant grandson Chase Clifton.
Billie is survived by her husband, Ronald Tierce; daughter, Lynn Rhodes Clifton and husband, Blake, of Columbia, Mo.; son, Mike Rhodes and wife, Dottie; daughter, Pam Rhodes Pitt and husband, Mike, all of Penwell, TX; daughter-in-law, Marcy Rhodes of Odessa; her brother, Will Jarrett of Dallas, Texas; sister, Bobbie Henry of Wallburg, N.C.; grandchildren, Heather Maddox, Chris, Amber and Jarrett Pitt, Ashley and Bailey Rhodes, Kimberly, Melody, and Chance Rhodes, Ned, Dylan, and Grace Clifton; and great-grandchild Haylee Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord with the Rev. Chris Conners officiating. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, September 3, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Ector County cemetery.

Cecil Jack Hollingsworth
ODESSA — Cecil Jack Hollingsworth, 88, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003.
He was born Sept 21, 1915, in Stringtown, Okla. He moved to Odessa in 1932, and has lived and worked all over the globe.
Jack proudly served his country during World War II and dedicated his life to helping individuals and making the world a better place. He was head of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 239 and later was active in the Silver-haired Legislators. A self described “Yellow Dog” democrat, he believed in God, his country and the goodness in all people.
He is survived by three sisters, Bea Uribe and Vera Resch, both of West Covina, Calif., and Ruby Leslie of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his daughter, Dee Mabry Ryan, an accomplished author and poet; and his grandson, Jamison Ryan, a successful actor and filmmaker. Both are very grateful to Jack for his love and support and would not be who they are today if not for the amazing grace of Cecil Jack Hollingsworth, one of the finest men you could ever know.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Rosehill cemetery. Service arrangements are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Louie V. Madison
ANDREWS — Services for Louie V. Madison, 84, of Andrews, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, in the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Mike Henson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Snyder, Texas, and the Rev. Michael Riley, pastor of the Deermeadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old cemetery.
Louie died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in Permian Regional Hospital. He was born March 15, 1919, in Royce City, Texas. Louie attended Eastern New Mexico Junior College and New Mexico Normal University in Las Vegas, N.M., now known as New Mexico Highlands University, where he graduated in 1941.
He taught at Fort Hancock in 1941 and 1942.
Louie went in to the Army Air Corps in 1942 serving as a physical trainer. After his military service, he was a teacher and coach in South Texas. Louie also served as the superintendent and coach in Sierra Blanca, Texas.
Louie and Betty Louise Chattman were married
on June 2, 1947, in Las Cruces, N.M. Louie and Betty moved to Andrews in 1948. Louie owned and operated Madison Grocery Store until 1957. Louie served on the Andrews school board and was a past member of the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. Louie taught physical education at Underwood Elementary School from 1957 until his retirement in 1984. He received his master’s degree from Sul Ross while teaching at Underwood.
Louie was a Mason and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Betty preceded Louie in death on Jan. 29, 1986.
Survivors include his sons, Robert “Bob” Madison of Sherman, Texas, and Mike Madison of Plano, Texas; daughters, Linda Maday of Cypress, Texas, and Dona Morgan of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Curtis Lee ‘Rip’ McKnight Jr.
MIDLAND — Curtis Lee “Rip” McKnight Jr. was born March 3, 1954, in Fort Worth, Texas, and died on Dec. 12, 2003.
Following his graduation from Richland High School in Fort Worth, Curtis served four years in the U.S. Air Force in Big Spring, where he met his wife, Robbie Tubb. After his discharge, he began working at Gemstar Fabrication and Construction at the refinery, and then later moved to the shop in Odessa, where he worked until his death. He loved sports, especially hunting and fishing with his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; and brother, Billy Joe.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Robbie; sons, Wes and Curt and daughter-in-law Kristi, all of Midland; father, Curtis McKnight Sr.; stepmother, Dorothy; sister, Alice Landers; and brother, Danny McKnight, all of Fort Worth; in-laws, Bonnie and Donnie Tubb, Connie Jackson and Donnie and Ann Tubb, all of Big Spring; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Robbie’s “Mac” was a man whose love, laughter and pride in her and their sons will never be forgotten.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Wilkins officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway in Midland, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Harmon, Carl Brosig, Joe George, Kevin Gray, Charlie George, Ronald Graham, Terry Weddle and Glen Hyden.
Bill Madry
SAN ANGELO — Bill Madry, lead guitar, was raised in Big Spring and became a part of country music history by being one of Lefty Frizzell’s first important band members at the Ace of Clubs. Bill was also part of the group traveling from Big Spring, in 1950, for Lefty’s very first history-making audition at Jim Beck’s studio in Dallas. Bill even helped with the $100.00 fee. In the ’50s and ’60s, besides having bands of his own, Bill also backed area country singers: Jimmie Fletcher, Curtis Potter, Hoyle Nix, Jerry Naylor and Blackie Crawford.
Career-wise he has backed the following country stars: Hank Thompson, George Jones, Charlie Pride, Wynne Stewart, Bob Wills, Joe Stampley, Grandpa Jones, Cal Smith, Roy Clark and others.
Bill resided in San Angelo and passed away on September 15, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Oleta Madry; a son, Jerry Madry; two daughters, Stephanie Malone and Susie Shipman; two brothers, Gene Madry and Jimmy Madry; two sisters, Cissy Umphress and Deloris Edwards; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2003, at North Ridge Baptist Church, officiated by Chunky Nelms.
Steve Wyatt
ODESSA — Steve Wyatt, 41, of Odessa, joined Jesus Our Savior; his mother, Annette Wyatt; grandparents, Roy Reeves, R.L. and Dorothy Wyatt; and uncle, Curtis Wyatt, in Heaven on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.
He was born in Shamrock, Texas, September 11, 1962. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1980 and married
Paula K. Crouch June 12, 1982.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was employed by Cemex since October 1994. He enjoyed hunting, serving as a hunting guide, and welding.
His life was devoted to his family and friends. Steve will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by wife, Paula K. Wyatt; daughter, Bethany; and son, Jonathan, all of Odessa, and Aletha Weaver of Midland; grandmother, Thelma Reeves of Shamrock; brother, Michael Wyatt of Carrollton; sister, Mitzi Wyatt of Brownwood; father, Kenneth Wyatt and his wife Rebekah of Odessa; step-sisters, Candace and Victoria Perry, both of Odessa; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Terry Crouch, Josh Crouch, Stan Chism, David Gardner, Jack Gardner, Larry Hulsey, David Johnson and Bobby Cree.

Frances Edwards
ODESSA — Frances Edwards, of Odessa, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born in Chicago, Ill. She graduated from Bristow High School in Bristow, Okla. After attending the University of Wisconsin, she graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. She taught school in Sasakwa, Okla., Midland and finally in Odessa at Crockett Junior High School until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Odessa for over 50 years; most of those years were spent teaching little children. For a number of years, she headed the Meals On Wheels Program in the Church. Also she was active in the Women’s Organization.
She will be missed by her family and faithful friends.
She is survived by her son, Bill Edwards of Fort Worth and sister, Jean Moore of Odessa.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Odessa cemetery with a Memorial service following at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Deines officiating.

Wave McKenna Boyles Jr.
ODESSA — Wave McKenna Boyles Jr., 63, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Wave was the ninth of 10 children born to Wave McKenna and Gladys Crouse Boyles Feb. 1, 1940, in Odessa. He was one of the first graduates of Ector High School. He worked as a route man for several companies before operating his own mat and linen service. Wave married
Kala McReynolds on May 28, 1989. Their children are Ryan, age six and Moriah, age nine. Wave also has a son, Terry, from a previous marriage.
Wave loved children and sports, especially baseball. He coached little league as a young man and was Moriah and Ryan’s T-ball coach this past spring and summer. Moriah was a member of his championship team. He loved his church and spent many happy hours riding the church bus and working with children.
Survivors include his wife, Kala Boyles; sons, Terry Alan and Ryan Boyles; daughter, Moriah Boyles, all of Odessa; brothers, Don Boyles of Odessa, and Frank Boyles of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Polly Stevens of Hamilton and Leona Moffitt of Odessa.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the First Church of the Nazarene, where Wave was a member, with the Rev. Terry Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Kala requests memorials be given to the children’s program at Odessa First Church of the Nazarene or to Moriah and Ryan’s education fund. Memorials may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 2214, Odessa, Texas, 79760.

John Frentress
LUBBOCK — Services for John Frentress, 78, of Lubbock, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Raintree Christian Church with the Rev. Charles Carmen officiating and the Rev. Lanny Hemmings assisting. Burial will be in Peaceful Gardens in Woodrow under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
John died on Dec. 15, 2003, in Lubbock.
He was born on July 7, 1925, into the family of John and Flora in Athens, Texas. He married
Kathryn Morris on May 10, 1947. John was a member of Raintree Christian Church where he was a deacon for many years and a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class. John served our country in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in World War II, 1943-1946, where he fought on Luzon, Leyte, Samar and New Guinea. He served in the liberation forces of the Santa Tomos POW camp and in the occupation forces of Japan. He worked for Pioneer Natural Gas Company/ Westar/Cabot Corporation for 39 1/2 years before retiring in 1985. John was a past Master of Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge 841 and a past Patron of Lubbock 76 OES.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janett Frentress of Odessa and Judy Tartt of Midland; a son, John Thomas Frentress of Lubbock; a brother, Verdie Lee Frentress of Denver; two sisters, Mildred Henderson and Joyce Tyson both of Oklahoma City; five granddaughters, Christine Haskell, Angela Metcalf, Erica Frentress, Staci Frentress and Candi Moates; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Haskell.
The family suggests memorials to Raintree Christian Church or the Scottish Rite Learning Center of Lubbock.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Resthaven.
John McKinley
ROSWELL, N.M. — John McKinley was a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He was an honorable man who loved the Lord and lived to serve him. His greatest desire and joy was to lead others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. On Dec. 13, 2003, after fighting the good fight of faith, John went to be with the Lord.
He was born in Roswell, N.M., on Sept. 6, 1931, to Eddie and Mary McKinley, who have preceded him in death. He attended school in Roswell, N.M., and married
his sweetheart, Alicia Gonzales on Nov. 30, 1950. She has sense gone to be with the Lord. John was a veteran who served his country in the Armory National Guard. Upon his retirement, John received the Lord as his Savior and began a new direction in his life. He and Alicia were hosts for a Bilingual Christian Program called “La Luz, ” with the Prime Time Christian Broadcasting, where he had served until his death.
John is survived by two sisters, Minnie Wright of Roswell, N.M., and Margie Zuloaga of El Paso; four children, John McKinley and his wife Monika, from Canada; Richard McKinley, Lydia Velasco and her husband Ismael from Roswell and Rebecca Gonzalez and her husband Victor, from Midland. He has 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Church on the Move, 901 W. Brasher Road in Roswell, N.M.
