George Franklin Miles

MIDLAND — George Franklin Miles, 76, of Midland, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2003.
He was born on Jan. 22, 1927, in Abilene. George joined the Navy and served his country during World War II. He married Mary Nell King on Aug. 4, 1947, in Seminole. George was employed by Gulf Oil Corp. for 39 years. After many years of living in Odessa, they were transferred to Hobbs, N.M., and then to Bakersfield, Calif. Upon retiring, they moved to Tyler. In 1996, they moved to Midland.
George was a deacon of Cumberland Presbyterian and Fifth Street Presbyterian Churches. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. George was a dedicated member of the Tyler Lions Club and the Midland Downtown Lions. George received numerous commendations from the Lions Club including the Melvin Jones Fellow award and the President’s Appreciation award.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Fannie Miles of Lamesa; three brothers, Jessie, Darvin and Johnny; and two sisters, Vivian and Virginia.
George is survived by his loving wife, Mary Nell Miles of Midland; daughter, Janis Canterbury and her husband, Rick, of Odessa; sons, Mark Miles of San Francisco; Scott Miles of Midland; grandson, Tommy White of Elgin; brother, William Miles of Midland; sister, Ruby Jean McBride of Vernal, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home today between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas.
Helen Beatrice

Graham Wheeler

ODESSA — Helen Beatrice Graham Wheeler passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2003 at her residence. She was 93. Helen was born to Joe and Molly Flanagan Graham in Ector County on September 1, 1910, at the Connell Ranch.
She graduated from Odessa High School in 1929. She married Clarence Oran “Pete” Wheeler on June 15th, 1931. Helen was a charter member of the Odessa Mother’s Club, the Sarah Circle, and the Fidelis Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church. She was the ranching recipient of the Heritage of Odessa Foundation 1988 award. In 1992, the Sandhills Hereford and Quarter Horse Show was dedicated to Helen. She was also honored as Beta Sigma Phi Sorority’s “First Lady of Odessa” in 1992. Graham Street here in Odessa was named after her family. The community has lost a leading citizen and a grand benefactor, but our family has lost so much more. ‘Grandmother’, ‘Granny’, or ‘Ma Whee’, depending on which of her many children or grandchildren was calling, was not only the matriarch of the family. She was our friend, our confidante, our example, our teacher, and a never-ending source of encouragement. She made fun for everybody wherever she went. Her legacy and our heritage as a family is the pioneering spirit and can-do attitude that she exhibited throughout her lifetime. She was a compass by which we could navigate our own lives, and she will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Wheeler, daughter, Mollie Jo Rice, and grandson, Graham Rice. She is survived by her children Freddie Jean Wheeler of Midland, C.O. “Pete” Wheeler and wife, Sherlene, of Lubbock, Robert Allen “Bobby” Wheeler and wife, Ginger, of Marysville, Washington, and Helen Joyce Bowers and husband, Bill, of Fort Worth, along with 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Donnie Williams officiating. Burial will be immediately following.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Betsy Jean Wheat

ANDREWS — Graveside services for Betsy Jean Wheat, 73, of Odessa, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, in the Andrews North cemetery with the Rev. Randy Gunter of Andrews officiating.
She died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
She was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Rotan. She married John Wesley Wheat on Sept. 10, 1946, in Andrews. They moved to Odessa from Andrews in 1956. She had worked for Sears Department Store as a department manager for 20 years. She was a portrait artist, woodworker, seamstress and could build or do about anything. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 17, 2000, and by her parents and one brother.
She is survived by her one son, Wayne Wheat of Odessa; two daughters, Raine St. Claire of Wimberley and Brenda Navarro and husband Armando of Midland; three brothers, Harold Kolb of Andrews, Carrol Kolb of Idaho and Dois Kolb of Grand Prairie; seven grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Wave McKenna Boyles Jr.

ODESSA — Wave McKenna Boyles Jr., 63, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Wave was the ninth of 10 children born to Wave McKenna and Gladys Crouse Boyles Feb. 1, 1940, in Odessa. He was one of the first graduates of Ector High School. He worked as a route man for several companies before operating his own mat and linen service. Wave married Kala McReynolds on May 28, 1989. Their children are Ryan, age six and Moriah, age nine. Wave also has a son, Terry, from a previous marriage.
Wave loved children and sports, especially baseball. He coached little league as a young man and was Moriah and Ryan’s T-ball coach this past spring and summer. Moriah was a member of his championship team. He loved his church and spent many happy hours riding the church bus and working with children.
Survivors include his wife, Kala Boyles; sons, Terry Alan and Ryan Boyles; daughter, Moriah Boyles, all of Odessa; brothers, Don Boyles of Odessa, and Frank Boyles of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Polly Stevens of Hamilton and Leona Moffitt of Odessa.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at the First Church of the Nazarene, where Wave was a member, with the Rev. Terry Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Kala requests memorials be given to the children’s program at Odessa First Church of the Nazarene or to Moriah and Ryan’s education fund. Memorials may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 2214, Odessa, Texas, 79760.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Ace G. Doran

ODESSA — Ace G. Doran, 87, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2003, at his residence.
He was born May 13, 1916, to John M. and Sally Doran in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Stanford High School in 1935. He married Bertha Tomlinson on March 9, 1940, in Coleman, Texas, and later moved from Kerrville to Odessa in 1952.
He also served during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He received three Bronze Stars.
He was the owner and operator of Doran’s Odessa Cleaners. He was a member, Deacon, and Elder of the First Christian Church; member and treasurer of the Auditorium-Booster Sunday School; and a Master Mason. He was a member of the Brady, Texas, Masonic Lodge 628.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha L. Doran, and son, Dr. John H. Doran, M.D., F.A.C.P., both of Odessa.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at First Christian Church with Dr. David Mindel officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bill Archer, Ted Archer, Bob Archer, Tommy Doran, Sean Fields and Jim Young.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Odessa.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Anastacio ‘Andy’ Galindo

ODESSA — Anastacio “Andy” Galindo, 83 years of age, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born on April 15, 1920 in Ozona, Texas. Andy served in the U.S. Army during WWII, being discharged in 1945. He married Genoveva Galindo on July 4, 1950. She preceded him in death along with his parents; a son, Elias “Speedy” Galindo; brothers, Samuel, Lupe and Merced Galindo.
Andy is survived by his sons, Raymond Galindo, Eleno Galindo and Johnny Galindo and his wife Maria, all of Odessa, and Andy Mendoza of San Angelo; daughters, Manry Lou “Divina” Galindo, Juliet Carrera and husband Rick, both of Odessa, and Yolanda Beltran of Boerne, Texas; sister, Maria Arispe of Eldorado, Texas; 13 grandchildren; Ricky Carrera III, Ramon Carrera, Sarina and Tony Salas, Renato and Griselda Galindo, Anette Galindo, Tina and Abraham Carrasco, Mike Mendoza, Gloria and Joe Rivas, Raymond and Margaret Robles, David Sanchez, Alex Valenzuela, Miguel Castillo and Luis Castillo; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Gilbert Rodriguez officiating.
Military graveside will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
His family will serve as pallbearers. Services are by Odessa Funeral Home.

John McKinley

ROSWELL, N.M. — John McKinley was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He was an honorable man who loved the Lord and lived to serve him. His greatest desire and joy was to lead others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. On Dec. 13, 2003, after fighting the good fight of faith, John went to be with the Lord.
He was born in Roswell, N.M., on Sept. 6, 1931, to Eddie and Mary McKinley, who have preceded him in death. He attended school in Roswell, N.M., and married his sweetheart, Alicia Gonzales on Nov. 30, 1950. She has since gone to be with the Lord. John was a veteran who served his country in the Armory National Guard. Upon his retirement, John received the Lord as his Savior and began a new direction in his life. He and Alicia were hosts for a Bilingual Christian Program called “La Luz, ” with the Prime Time Christian Broadcasting, where he had served until his death.
John is survived by two sisters, Minnie Wright of Roswell, N.M., and Margie Zuloaga of El Paso; four children, John McKinley and his wife Monika, from Canada; Richard McKinley, Lydia Velasco and her husband Ismael from Roswell and Rebecca Gonzalez and her husband Victor, from Midland. He has 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Church on the Move, 901 W. Brasher Road in Roswell, N.M.

A.B. ‘Pete’ Price

GRANITE SHOALS — A.B. ‘Pete’ Price, 77, of Granite Shoals, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2003. He was born July 8, 1926, in Henrietta, Texas. He had been a resident of the Hill Country for 17 years, moving there from Odessa where he was a former owner of The Branding Iron Steakhouse for 13 years.
On March 7, 1946, he married Mary Vaughn in Colorado City, Texas. Pete served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Marble Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Price of Granite Shoals; two daughters, Bettie Taber and husband, Michael, of Granite Shoals and Patricia Lucas and husband, George, of Hutto; sister, Ina Mae Rankin of Rockport; seven grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ollie Mae Richardson Price; sisters, Hazel Pittman, Opal Haug and Jewel Gibson; and a brother, Lloyd Price.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet County. Pastor Kenneth Womack will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Assembly of God Church in Marble Falls, Texas.
Arrangements entrusted to Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home Inc., in Kingsland, Texas.
