Barbara Sue Burns
ODESSA — Sue Burns was born on April 12, 1951, in Sweetwater to Walter and Etonne Carter. Sue passed away November 21, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was 52.
Sue spent the majority of her life in Odessa. She was a graduate of the Odessa High School class of 1969. She was an avid rock ‘n’ roll fan. Some of her favorite groups included the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Greg Allman and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Sue collected shot glasses, mini books and pocket crosses. Sue also loved her pugs and collected anything dealing with pugs. She also loved the outdoors and gardening.
Sue was able to find joy and amusement in the simple things of life. She could find beauty wherever she looked.
Sue is preceded in death by her father, Walter Carter.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Steve Hudson of Odessa; daughters Traci Burns Lee and her husband Rodney of Midland, and Tiffani Burns and her fiancée Weslie Griffith of Odessa; mother Etonne Carte of Odessa; brothers, Johnny Carter of Odessa, Jimmy Carter of Houston, and Jerry Carter of Odessa; sister Carla Roth; her pride and Joy, grandson Tuff Lee; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved BooBoo, Shoney and Sweetie.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Bushard and Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Jesus M. Gutierrez
ODESSA — Jesus M. Gutierrez, 87 years, died Saturday November 22, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. Jesus was a Catholic and was born March 20, 1916, in Presidio, Texas, to father Salome Gutierrez and mother Manuela Martinez who both precede him in death. Rosary was held Monday November 24, 2003, at 7 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home. Services will be celebrated Tuesday November 25, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Juanita Gutierrez from Odessa; four daughters, Maria Cecelia Glick and husband Arthur Newton Glick from Lubbock, Teresa Ramirez and husband David Ramirez from San Angelo, Texas, Esabel Gutierrez Jensen and husband Erik Jon Jensen from Phoenix, Ariz., and Catherine Gutierrez Tolbert and husband Kevin Tolbert from Austin; three sons, Carlos Gutierrez and wife Raquel Maria Gutierrez from Odessa, Texas, Fernando Gutierrez and wife Rosa Gutierrez from Odessa, Samuel Gutierrez from Odessa, Texas; six sisters, Carlotta Rodriguez, Maria Gonzales and Lupe Brito all from Big Spring, Texas, Josefita Uranga from Coahoma, Texas, Barbarita Garcia from Odessa, Texas, and Elisa Brito from Lovington, New Mexico; three brothers, Jose Gutierrez from Lubbock, Silverio Gutierrez and Alfredo Gutierrez, both from Coahoma, Texas; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons Juan Robles Jr., Chris Robles, John Paul Glick, Bryan Gutierrez, Thor Jensen and Edward Gutierrez.

Robert C. ‘Bob’ Hadley
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — Robert C. “Bob” Hadley of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, died November 18, 2003, after a lengthy battle with cancer and heart disease. He was 77.
Mr. Hadley was born December 3, 1925, in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Norman Judson and Ethel Lee (Hooper) Hadley. The family later moved to New Mexico and finally settled in Jal where he was raised and graduated from high school in 1944.
He married
Cecilia Moore in Odessa, Texas, on May 15, 1963. They made their home in Odessa until he sold his mechanical seal business and retired in 1987. During the 25 years he worked in the seal repair business, he designed and patented his own mechanical seal which was named “Redeseal.” Their home in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, was built in 1990 and they liked it so much that they eventually became permanent residents.
His parents and a brother, James Alvin Hadley, preceded Mr. Hadley in death.
Mr. Hadley is survived by his wife Cecilia Moore Hadley, son Bradley Keith Hadley and wife Sherri of Houston, Texas, granddaughter Mariah and grandson Ronni of Houston, Texas. Daughter Janice Anne Strain of Tyler, Texas, granddaughter Sasha and grandsons Evan and Peyton of Tyler, Texas. Granddaughter Cherie Strain of Denver, Colorado, grandson Derek Strain and wife Laura of Irving, Texas. Sister Elsie Travis of Odessa, Texas, brothers Norman “Billy Mac” Hadley and wife Yvonne of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Donald Gene Hadley and wife Clair of Herndon, Virginia, Ronald Dean Hadley and wife Donna of Santa Teresa, New Mexico, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of his life will be held at Mountain View Church in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on December 1, 2003, at 11 a.m.

O.D. Huckabee
MIDLAND — O.D. Huckabee, of Midland, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2003, at a Stanton care facility.
He was born March 10, 1914, to James Huckabee and Lillie Mae Lewis Huckabee in Snyder, Texas, and grew up in Brownfield where he graduated from Brownfield High School and later attended Texas Tech. In 1935, he married
Lucille Robertson in Tatum, New Mexico. The couple moved various times, finally settling in Andrews, Texas, in 1947. O.D., along with his wife, owned and operated Lucille’s Dress Shop in Andrews and in Midland. They sold the Andrews shop in 1975 to concentrate on the Midland shop, which they operated until the mid-’90s.
O.D. was a member of First Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class, Ranchland Hills Country Club, past president of Andrews Country Club, 32nd Degree Mason of Lodge 1024 in Andrews and was one of the founders of the American Junior Rodeo Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters and his son, Ron “Coach” Huckabee on September 24, 2003.
O.D. is survived by his wife, Lucille Huckabee of Midland, Texas; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Huckabee of Midland, Texas; grandsons, Dub Huckabee and his wife, Cathie, of Midland, Texas, and Gary Huckabee and his wife, Angie, of Monahans, Texas; granddaughter, Sheri Carr and her husband, David, of Stanton, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Hazel Bond of Brownfield, Texas.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Bob Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas.

Keith Richmond
CLOUDCROFT, N.M. — Brian Keith Richmond died in Cloudcroft, N.M., on November 20, 2003.
Keith was born in Seminole, Oklahoma, on July 10, 1935, to Arthur and Bivian Richmond.
He spent most of his life in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1953. He married
Dolores Hickman in 1956. They lived in Austin, Texas, where he graduated from The University of Texas School of Pharmacy in 1958.
Keith loved people and was always happy to give of himself to help others.
Keith’s greatest love was to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren in the mountains.
A private service will be held in Cloudcroft.

Dorothy Jean Hollis
ODESSA — Dorothy Jean Hollis, 79, of Odessa passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born on September 25, 1924, in Eastland, Texas, to Louis Wilmer and Thora Inez Nabors.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jimmie and Leon Nabors.
She is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Case of Odessa and Diane Eudy of Little Rock, Ark.; son, Charlie Hollis of Odessa; three grandchildren, Christopher Sheldon of Corpus Christi, Tara Llewellyn of Sherwood, Ark., Heather Hollis of Odessa; and one great-grandson, Joshua Llewellyn of Sherwood, Ark.; four nieces and nephews, Sue Riech of Taylor, Wis., Alton Nabors of Eastland, Lee Cavaleri of Missouri, Ernie Nabors of San Angelo; three great-nieces and nephews; and four great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Eastland City cemetery in Eastland, Texas.

Y. G. “Jay” Hughes II
MIDLAND — Y. G. “Jay” Hughes II of Midland, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2004.
He was born January 29, 1935, to Young Glenn Hughes and Mildred Rachel Smith Hughes in Pioneer, Texas, and was raised and educated there. On January 15, 1957, Jay married
Glenda June Atwood in Cross Plains, Texas. For over 50 years Jay owned and operated numerous oil and oilfield service businesses in the West Texas area.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jo Clair Cullers.
Jay is survived by his wife, Glenda June Hughes of Midland, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Jeb and Andrea Hughes of Midland; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jeff Garner of Flower Mound, Texas; three grandchildren, Meagan and Amy Hughes and Sam Garner; two close cousins, James Alexander and his wife, Jean, and May Jones and her husband, D.P., all of Pioneer, Texas; many other family members and friends.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Pioneer cemetery in Pioneer, Texas, with the Reverend Bruce Stovall officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas.

Vesta Cooper Lynn
BROWNWOOD — Vesta Cooper Lynn, age 93, of Brownwood and formerly of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2004, in Brownwood, Texas. She was known to many friends and family as Sue. She was born on 1-11-11 to John “Hunter” and Minnie Lee Cooper in Garrett’s Bluff (near Paris, Texas).
Graveside services for Vesta Sue Lynn will be held at Rocky Creek cemetery on Friday, March 19, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rick Justice officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Davis-Morris Funeral Home on Thursday, March 18, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Everett Lynn; her only child, Lonnie Beth Lynn Kingston; her parents; and one sister, Vi Holman.
Sue started teaching school at the age of 18 in a one-room school in Gibson, Oklahoma. She later moved to Odessa, Texas where she taught first grade at Milam Elementary for 21 years before retiring in 1976. She moved to Brownwood, Texas in November 2001 to live with her son-in-law James David Kingston and his wife Barbara. She was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus as her Savior on January 22, 2002, and was baptized on April 7, 2002. Sue had a very special bond with many friends, neighbors, and family, and she will be greatly missed by all. She loved her Sunday School class taught by Fayegene Bush and the church services. “Granny” wanted to be buried at Rocky Creek cemetery.
She is survived by the joys of her life, her two grandchildren, Sonia Lynn Koopmann and husband Cliff of Converse Texas and James Lyle Kingston and wife Lori of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a brother Ray Cooper and wife Eva of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a sister Edith Simmons of Lubbock Texas and a sister Doris McAnnally of Dumas, Texas. Also surviving are four stepchildren: Barbara Yorgensen and husband Russell of Snyder, Jimmy Lynn and wife Patricia of Strawn Texas, Richard Lynn of Strawn, Texas, and Helen Cozby of Anacoco, Louisiana. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
As a recipient of the homebound mission work at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, she truly enjoyed her weekly visit, hugs, and homemade desserts from Bonnie Sides. She requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Rocky Creek Baptist Church Homebound Ministry, 4301 CR 557 (Hwy 279), Brownwood, Texas 76801.
James A. Young
ODESSA — James A. Young, 75, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born December 5, 1928, in Abernathy, Texas, to Guyton and Bessie Young, moving to Odessa in 1936.
James retired from Texaco after 15 years and was owner of Seale Furniture and Appliance for 13 years, retiring due to illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Guyton Young of San Antonio and Pat Neil of Green Bay, Wis.; sisters, Ruby Nell Matlock of Fort Worth and Louise Richardson of Odessa.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jo Cleta Young of Odessa; daughter, Debra and husband, Michael Dale, of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren, James Vick of Baltimore, Md., Laura and husband, Chris Long, of Odessa; great-grandchildren, Angeleah Long, Dustin Long of Odessa; sisters, Elizabeth Galyon of Dallas, Wanda and husband, Lonnie Wilkinson, of Spring Field, Mo., Reba Perry of Odessa; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with David Kirby presiding. Pallbearers will be Michael Dale, Jim Vick, Kerry Brunken, Lee Perry, Tommy Ferrell and Herbert Martin.
