Alan Wayne Woods Sr.

MONAHANS — Alan Wayne Woods Sr., 50, of Monahans passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Monahans, Texas.
Services have been set for 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, at First Baptist Church with Leslie Gregory officiating. Military services will follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery. Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.
Alan was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Monahans, Texas, to Donald and Margaret Woods. He served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. He received an Honorable Discharge on May 7, 1979. Alan was also a member of the National Guard. He had worked for the Odessa Police Department and also for the Ector County Independent School District Police Department. He was over the G.R.E.A.T. program in Odessa and had an Explorer Group with the Ward County Sheriff’s Department. He was currently a deputy for the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Woods of Monahans; son, Alan Wayne Woods Jr. of Astoria, N.Y.; and three daughters, April Dawn Woods of Tampa, Fla., Taralynn Wilson of Monahans and Elizabeth Taylor Woods of Astoria, N.Y.; his parents, Don and Margaret Woods of Monahans; and brother, Byron Lee Woods of Monahans. Also three grandchildren, Alexis Breann Navarrette, Sebastian Woods and Stacie Renee Wilson.

Tommy H. Beene

MCKINNEY — Mr. Tommy H. Beene, 87, of McKinney, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Georgetown, Texas. He was born on June 5, 1916, to Sam Houston and Lillie Mae (Robinson) Beene in Roby, Texas.
On July 20, 1941, he married Helen Broadwell in Roscoe, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. His teaching and coaching career began in the early 1940s, including Aspermont, Snyder, Anson and Odessa, Texas. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Odessa and also a member of the Masonic Lodge. In 1984, he was inducted in the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Sharon Beavers and husband, Richard, of Spring, Texas; son, Mike Beene and wife, Linda, of McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Nell Humphries of Edgewood, Texas, Dean Sansing of Mineola, Texas, Helyn Rinks of Edgewood, Texas, and Lou Kerby of Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2004, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with the Rev. Donna Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park.

Marian A. Dickerson

ODESSA — Marian A. Dickerson passed away Saturday, March 6, 2004, in Odessa. She was born July 7, 1924, in Speonk, N.Y., to Carl and Rose Etta Raynor Lucas. She married Stanley Dickerson in 1942, and they moved to Odessa in 1957, coming from North Carolina.
Mrs. Dickerson was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George and Charles, and her husband, Stanley, in 1981.
Marian is survived by two sons, Dickie Dickerson and Bob Dickerson of Odessa; three daughters, Alberta Watson of North Carolina, Sally Aguirre of California and Betty Jessup of Houston; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
The family requests memorials to Home Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston St., Odessa, TX 79761
Services were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens, Inc.

Robert L. Porter

MIDLAND — Robert Lester Porter of Midland, Texas, passed away Monday, March 8, 2004.
He was born Oct. 11, 1919, to Marion Grant Porter and Queen Marie Tainter Porter in Douglas, Wyo., and was reared and educated in Greybull, Wyo. Bob retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1960 as a major. He was a realtor in Roswell, N.M., for many years. He was a member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Louise Farley.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Porter of Midland; son, Robert Bruce Porter of Odessa; daughter, Lynda Sue Buhl of Weatherford; brothers, Franklin Porter of Greybull, Wyo., Bruce Porter of Huntsville, Ala., and Larry Porter of California; sisters, Margaret Hurt of Midway City, Calif., and Janice Hughes of Wyo.; one grandson, Kevin Porter, and one great-grandson, Logan Gene Porter, both of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was a kind and gentle soul who loved God, his family and his country. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Resthaven Memorial Park with Reverend Gary Redwine officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas.
Memorials may be directed to Baptist Children’s Home, Box 629, Portales, New Mexico 88130, the Younger Center at Manor Park or Hospice of Midland at Midland Memorial Hospital.

James L. Smith ‘Hooks’

ODESSA — James L. Smith “Hooks”, 77, of Odessa went to be with our Lord Wednesday, March 8, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2004, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Revs. Raul Puente and Don Swindell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Jim worked his entire life for his loving family. He was employed by Broncho Chevrolet for 42 years and after retirement for Odessa Auto Sales. Jim was born January 19, 1927, in Armstrong, Okla., and was married to Bessie Smith for 46 years. Jim served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Dane.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bessie; three children, Sande Prewitt of Odessa, Suzi Newsom of Odessa and J.W. Smith of Odessa; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister; and one niece.
The family suggests memorials sent to the Hospice House and Star Hospice.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Ted Weaver

BRADY — Ted Weaver, 79, of Brady, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004. He was born March 11, 1924, in Seminole, Okla., to William Wesley Weaver and Bertha E. (Pierson) Weaver.
Ted married Oleta Gilliam January 29, 1952, in Carlsbad, N.M. He retired as a gang pusher from Phillips 66 Oil Company in 1985 after 33 years of service. He lived in Brady for nine years, moving there from Odessa. He loved to fish and crack pecans. He was a Beanie Baby collector and was on the Phillips Bowling Team for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ernest Weaver; sister-in-law, Wilma Weaver; and son, Rodger Dale Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Oleta Weaver of Brady; son, William David Weaver and wife, Sherry, of Fredonia; brother-in-law, Douglas Gilliam and wife, Mary, of Comanche; grandchildren, Kristie Weaver of Bryan, Cindy Matzke of Oklahoma City, Okla., Aletha Weaver of Midland, Mckenzey Ake and Rowdy Ake, both of Fredonia; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Luce and Levi Weaver, both of Bryan.
Services entrusted to Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.

Robert J. ‘Bob’ Frasier

ODESSA — Robert J. “Bob” Frasier, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Home Hospice Care Facility in Odessa, Texas, after a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Mr. Frasier was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Ranger, Eastland County, to Franklin Frasier and Abigail Campain Frasier, who preceded him in death. A brother, Franklin “Spot” Frasier, also preceded him in death during the WWII conflict. Robert married Wanda Lue Brittain on Sept. 24, 1949, in Ranger. They shared 54 years together.
Robert was a WWII veteran and served as a Radarman, First Class in the United States Navy on the USS Sigourney 643. He was a member of the VFW of Odessa, Texas, and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 36 AF & AM of Port Lavaca.
He moved to Point Comfort in 1959, employed as a welder for Alcoa Aluminum Company, retiring in 1986 with 27 years service. He was also a member of the Alcoa Aluminum Company Alumni 25-Year Club. Upon his retirement, he relocated to Odessa residing on the Pevehouse-Christensen Ranch, where he spent the last 18 years of his life.
Mr. Frasier is survived by his wife, Wanda Frasier; daughter; Rebecca “Becky” Frasier of Odessa; daughter, Donna Williams (formerly of Andrews) of Jacksonville; son, William Robert “Bill” Frasier and wife Cheryl of Victoria, and daughter, Ramona Luanne “Mona” Zeller/Reynolds and husband, Steve of Odessa, eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Ruby Smith of De Leon and a brother, Howard Frasier and wife, Dorothy, of Blackwell.
A memorial service will be held for Robert at the park on the Pevehouse-Christensen Ranch on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at 1 p.m. led by family friend Joe Hurt of Odessa. Friends of Robert Frasier are invited to attend.
Robert gently touched the lives of all he met. He loved his family and friends and each was important to him. Living on the ranch was his “heaven.” The opportunities that he had and the friends he made while living there will remain a special memory in the lives of his family. He shall be missed.
We wish to express our gratitude to the “Angels” of the Home Hospice Care Facility of Odessa for the tender care that was given to Robert, and to his entire family and friends during this most difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials or donations be made to the Home Hospice Care Facility, 903 N. Sam Houston Dr., Odessa, Texas, 79761.

Robert Vance ‘Bob’ Scott

ODESSA — Robert Vance ‘Bob’ Scott passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at his residence in Gardendale. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Dewey Blevins officiating.
Bob was born on July 28, 1929, in Breckenridge, Texas, to John Robert and Thelma Aline Scott. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had been a resident of Odessa since 1966, where he owned and operated Basin Mobile Movers. He had also worked as a salesman for Bronco Chevrolet for many years. On March 3, 1988, he married Etta Marie Battles in Odessa. He was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Scott of Gardendale; stepson, James Scott Norman of Odessa; stepdaughter, Janice Waldrop and husband, Will, of Hennessey, Okla.; daughter, Alise Evans; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Sandy Foust of Bulverde, Texas, and Sandee Schraeder of Casterville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brother, Gerald Scott; and by his son, Richard Allen Scott.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Jimmy ‘Mr. T’ Townson

ODESSA — Jimmy ‘Mr. T’ Townson, 80, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, Feb. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Eldora Townson; parents, William and Vina Townson; and sister, Billie Woodrow.
Jimmy is survived by two sons, Jimmy Jr. of Lake Jackson and Joe of Odessa; one daughter, Karen of Odessa; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Johnny and George Townson, and a sister, Polly Yoakum, of Vernon. He was loved by many nieces and nephews and his buddy, Bandit.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Meals on Wheels in Memory of Jimmy Townson.
We will always remember hearing him say “Go Mojo” for many years to come.

Grady Woodward

ROCKWALL — Grady R. Woodward, 78, of Garland, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in Mesquite, Texas.
Grady was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Temple, Texas, to Sidney and Eunice Fae (Calloway) Woodward. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the in the United States Army and served during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was honorably discharged on August 19, 1946. Grady married Carolyn Barton on Sept. 3, 1947, in Tahoka, Texas, and they moved to Odessa, Texas, in 1954.
Grady pioneered the first television service department at Sears and Roebuck, and later served as the Chief Engineer for KMID and KTPX Television Stations in Odessa, Texas. He retired in 1992.
Grady was a member of Saturn Road Church of Christ in Garland, Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Woodward of Garland; son, Joe Woodward and wife, Heather, of Plano; daughter, Donna Dyer and husband, Johnny, of Garland; brother, James D. Woodward of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Chad and Craig Woodward
and Justin and Darra Dyer;
and great-grandchild, Erik Woodward.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rowlett Chapel with John Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Rockwall. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2910 Swiss Ave., Dallas, TX 75204.
