Joe ‘Joey’ Isreal Acosta
ODESSA — Went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 11th, 2004.
He was our Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin and most of all Friend.
He was born on May 24th, 1964, to Emma Jose Acosta in Odessa. He was 39 years old.
Joey is survived by many people who loved him and will never forget his kindness and generous heart that made him so special.
He is survived by his parents, Jose Salazar Acosta and Emma Madero Acosta. Sisters include Severa “Shebby” Arinevas and husband Juan, and Amanda Castelo and husband Michael, all from Odessa, Melissa Alvarado and husband Raymond from San Angelo; brother Ricky Bueno and wife Velma from the Colony.
He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews: John Adrian (Andrea) and Erica Arinevas, Brittany and Cody Castelo, all from Odessa. Raymond (Bubba) and Dana (Lovie) from San Angelo and Cassandra, Melanie and Marcus from The Colony. One great-niece, Sarah Arinevas. Maternal grandmother Erminia P. Madero and paternal grandfather Mencho Acosta from Fort Stockton. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at 7 p.m.
Join us in celebrating Mass for Joey on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church with Fr. Arturo Pestin officiating. Burial services at Rose Hill cemetery following the mass.
The family wishes to invite family and friends to St. Josephs Parish hall where we will be gathering until we lay our Joey to rest.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff on Five Central from Medical Center Hospital for being so kind and gentle with our beloved son during his final journey home. They made Joey’s stay very comforting for both him and his family and fulfilled all his final requests.
Jesse Alvarado
ODESSA — Jesse Alvarado, 78, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at his residence. He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Midland. He married
Naomi Ramirez Aug. 5, 1950, in Odessa. He was co-owner of Permian Air Conditioning. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He graduated from Odessa High School in 1942 and immediately after began serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in 1944.
He was active at VFW Post #4372 for many years having served as District 25 Commander 1997 to 1998 and All American Post Commander from 1992 to 1993.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ascension and Clara Alvarado; brothers, Johnny, Mac and Chris Alvarado.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Alvarado of Odessa; sons, Raymond Alvarado of Odessa, David Alvarado and wife Stella of The Woodlands; daughters, Juanita Boggs and husband Mike of Odessa, Debbie Langham and husband Ron of Sachse, Abby Deer and husband Bruce of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Michelle, Daniel, Kelly, Daniel, Christopher and Collin; sisters, Olivia Torres of Mexico City, Linda Eagleton of Wimberly and Lupe Alvarado of Midland.
A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis Frey officiating. Interment will follow at Odessa cemetery.

Rosendo Collazo
ODESSA — Rosendo Collazo, 78, of Odessa, passed away Jan. 10, 2004, at his residence. He was born on March 1, 1925, in Midland to Teofilo and Martha Collazo. He was a Christian and a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his father Teofilo Collazo, mother Martha Urquid Hernandez, and stepfather Genaro Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife, Manuela Collazo of Odessa; sons, Manuel Rene C. Collazo of Odessa, Ernesto Collazo of Odessa and Alfredo Collazo and wife Angie of Odessa; Brothers, Gregorio Collazo of El Paso, Genaro Hernandez Jr., Fermin Hernandez, Andres Hernandez and Ruben Hernandez, all of Midland; sisters, Louisa Munoz of Beaumont, Modesta Munoz, Delia Segura and Victoria Lara, all of Midland; eight grandchildren, Manuel Rene Collazo Jr., Gilbert Collazo, Judy Collazo Salas, Joann Collazo, Alfredo Collazo Jr., Patricia Collazo, Adrian Collazo and Brianna Collazo; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 14, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Ueker officiating. Burial to follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Services by Odessa Funeral Home.
Edward A. Denning
ODESSA — Edward A. Denning, 75, passed away Jan. 11, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Parrish Denning; his children, Phillip Denning and wife Laurie of Katy, Texas; Jeffrey Denning and wife Christa of Katy, Texas; and Sharon Denning of Odessa; his sister, Mary Alice Ellard of Graham, Texas; his brother Homer Denning of Frisco, Texas; and his grandchildren Peter Chang-Leon, Spencer Denning, Emma Denning and Megan Denning.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Winifred Denning.
Ed was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Bryson, Texas, to Luther Denning and Mary Butler Denning.
He grew up in Bryson and graduated from Bryson High School in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 and was stationed in China.
He moved to Snyder, Texas, in 1952 and began working as a field representative for TOTCO, an oilfield service company.
He married
Betty Jo Parrish on Aug. 23, 1952, in Honey Grove, Texas.
Ed worked for TOTCO for nearly 40 years, retiring as a district manager in Odessa in 1991.
His family will remember a caring husband, father and brother and a devoted grandfather.
Ed’s friends will remember a plainspoken, kindhearted and unselfish man who loved to talk, helped his neighbors and cherished his home and family.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
Following a private burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens, there will be a 2:30 p.m. memorial service Wed., Jan. 14, 2004, in the chapel at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Ethridge L. ‘Verne’ Givens
SAN MARCOS — Ethridge L. “Verne” Givens, 80, of San Marcos, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004. He was born in Tipton, Okla., on March 2, 1923, to Garland H. and Pearl (Kee) Givens.
A World War II veteran, Ethridge served his country in the United States Navy. He was a faithful Christian and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. One of his greatest loves was gospel music and he devoted his time to the church as a song leader.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Irvine Givens of San Marcos; daughter, LaVon and her four children of El Paso; stepsons, Stan Irvine and wife, Sherry of Marlin and Jerry Irvine and wife, Frances of Odessa; stepdaughter, Nancy Slover and husband, George of San Marcos; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, at Pennington Memorial Chapel. Mr. George Slover of the Hunter Road Church of Christ and Mr. Jesse Jenkins of the Church of Christ, Benchley, Texas, will officiate. Graveside services will follow at 1:15 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio.

Grace M. Meadors
ODESSA — Grace M. Meadors, age 57, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at the Comanche Trails Nursing Home in Big Spring.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Cornerstone Worship Center Assembly of God in Odessa with the Rev. Johnny Storz officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
She married
Jim Meadors on Feb. 7, 1981, in Waller. She worked as a nurse’s clerk at Herman Hospital in Houston. She moved to Odessa in 1985 from Presidio. She graduated from Waller High School and attended Blinn College in Brenham. She was a faithful member of Cornerstone Worship Center Assembly of God.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Meadors of Odessa; sister, Sylvia Smith of Humble; brothers, Robert Brejcha of Sugar Land and K.C. Brejcha of Waller; and one stepsister, Carol Catherine Brejcha of Apache Junction, Ariz. Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Georgia E. Northcott
ODESSA — Georgia E. Northcott passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 11, 1945, in Borger to Ernest and Emogene Bolles. They both preceded her in death.
She worked in the oilfield for over 30 years for Gulf, Chevron, and Schlumberger.
Georgia is survived by her beloved husband of over 40 years, A.R. Northcott of Odessa; two sons, David A. Northcott of Greenwood and Steve R. Northcott of Odessa; three granddaughters, Destiny L. Northcott of Odessa, Stefany S. Northcott of Stephenville and Sierra Roby Frye of Spur; two step-grandsons, Kolton Cotton and Kade Cotton, both of Greenwood.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Good officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

David E. Palmer
LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — David was born February 6th, 1969, in San Diego, Ca. He died December 24, 2003 while skiing in Lake Tahoe, Ca.
Dave went to school in Las Vegas, Nev., where he studied electronics at UNLV. After graduation he moved to Hawaii where he met the love of his life, Lizzy Furtado.
They shared such loves as hiking, camping, cooking, the great outdoors, and all of God’s living creatures. They had a loving, faithful, and fun life together.
Dave worked in Lake Tahoe as Director of Table Games at the Horizons Hotel and Casino, also Casino Director on a riverboat in Mississippi before returning to Lake Tahoe in 2002. Dave served all the casinos as their local representative on the Lake Tahoe City Council. He made many friends, Dave’s enthusiasm for life and his ability to say or do the right thing set him apart from the usual, and will be missed. Dave’s immense loyalty and willingness to go the extra mile to help anyone at anytime made an impact on this world that will never be forgotten.
Dave was preceded in death by his Father, Robert A. Palmer and his maternal Grandfather, Elmer E. Savage. Dave is survived by his love, Lizzy of Lake Tahoe, Ca., his Mother, Barbara Perez and husband Jesus, a Brother, Gary Peek and wife Sherry, his loving Grandmother Wilma Savage, all of Odessa. His Aunt Jean Reeves and her husband Hugh of Houston, Texas. Madeline, Evan, and Sherry Furtado of Modesto, Calif., and many cousins and nieces.
A celebration of Dave’s life was held December 28, 2003 in State Line, Nev.
Many friends and loved ones shared the light and love that he brought to this world. He will forever be missed.
