Barbara A. Qualls
ODESSA — Barbara A. Qualls, age 74, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Feb. 17, 1929, to Robert and Iris Morris in Tucson, Ariz.
She married
James P. Qualls on May 6, 1946, in Okmulgee, Okla., and they later moved to Odessa in July 1951. She and her husband owned their own business where she was bookkeeper. She was a member of Bible Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years and 8 months, James Qualls; and son, Timothy Qualls and wife, Cheryl, all of Odessa; granddaughter, Jamie Melissa Qualls; many relatives and church brothers and sisters.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Jack Odell Stover
ODESSA — Jack Odell Stover, 80, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at the Veterans Rest Home in Big Spring. He was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Henryetta, Okla. He was a graduate of Pampa High School. He started to work for Gulf Oil Corp in Goldsmith June 6, 1942, in the connection gang. He retired June 6, 1982; the last 11 years he was production superintendent.
Mr. Stover was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He was a second engineer togelear end gunner on a B-24 Liberator stationed in England during World War II. He received the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Mr. Stover was past master of the Masonic Lodge #1038 in Megargel. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Cleta; daughters, Victoria Lynn Allen and husband Lonny of Odessa, Sandra Lavers of Odessa; son, James Lawson of Port Isabel; two grandchildren, Heather Smith and Leigha Allen of Odessa; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Stance, Devan Allen, Nicki Smith and Mallory White.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Kimberly Dawn Turner
ODESSA — Kimberly Dawn Turner, age 16, of Odessa passed away on January 10, 2004 at Medical Center Hospital as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Kimberly was born September 29, 1987 in Midland, Texas, to Carol and Donnie Turner.
Kimberly was a sophomore at Permian High School and a member of the Permian Band as a bassoonist and on the Drumline. Previously she attended Nimitz Junior High where she was a drum major for the Nimitz Band. Kimberly also attended LBJ Elementary and Blackshear Elementary.
Kimberly had just returned from the Rose Bowl Parade with the PHS/OHS Combined Marching Bands. She said, “It was the trip of a lifetime!” As a child, she enjoyed soccer, swimming, and especially dance. However, band was the love of her life. She was preparing to perform with the Nimitz band in their State Championship concert at the TMEA convention in San Antonio in February. Kimberly was also planning to try out for the Panther Paws. Kimberly was a member of the National Junior Honor Society, All City Band, and the youth group at Immanuel Baptist. She was a member of the PHS Drumline when they won First Place at the West Texas Auxiliary Championship. Kimberly had numerous First Division ratings at Solo and Ensemble contests and served as a mentor and tutor to many of the younger bassoonists.
Kimberly is survived by her mother Carol White Johnson and step-father Mark Johnson of Odessa; father Donnie Turner of Clovis, N.M.; grandparents Lois White of Odessa and the late Joe White, Jr. formerly of Odessa, Sid and Loretta Turner of Clovis, N.M. and Bill and Eddie Johnson of Odessa; half-brother Jeremy Turner of Clovis, N.M., half-sister Jennifer Turner Wheeler and husband Benjamin and son Zachary of Clovis, N.M.; step-sister Stevie Johnson of Odessa; step-brother Cole Johnson of Odessa; uncle Robert White, wife Janicé and children Matt, Brandon and Katie of Coppell, TX; aunt Vicki Johnson and son Landon of Midland and godparents Michelle and Wesley Barnt of Lubbock, TX.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 4:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden cemetery.
Visitation will be today and Wednesday, January 14, 2004 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the community and Medical Center Hospital staff for the outpouring of love, support and prayers during this time.
Kimberly wanted to be a doctor when she “grew up.” In accordance with her wish to help others, Kimberly will live on in the many people she helped by being an organ donor.
Robbie A. Connally
KINGSLAND — Robbie A. Connally, 56, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at St. David’s Hospital in Austin. Robbie was born on Nov. 16, 1947, to Robert A. Johnson Sr. and Myra Lamb Johnson in Seminole. She had lived in the Hill Country since 1986, coming from Odessa. Robbie was a member of the Crestview Baptist Church in Midland. She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Connally of Kingsland; her mother, Myra Lamb Johnson of Abilene; four daughters, Laura Lee of Odessa, Lisa Carpenter and husband, Prentice, of Albion, Ind., Linda Booe and husband, Lloyd, of Granite Shoals and Teresa Baker and husband, Matt, of Llano; and one son, Terry Connally of Odessa. Four brothers, Clint Johnson and wife, Dolores, of Midland, George Johnson and wife, Kittie, of Midland, John Johnson and wife, Sandy, of Bulverde and Robert Johnson Jr. and wife, Gloria, of Abilene. Eight grandchildren, Mychael Carpenter, Carrie Carpenter, Kynlee Carpenter, Melissa Connally, Haley Booe, Brodie Booe, Drew Baker and Sterling Baker.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home in Kingsland at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, with the Rev. Doug Lindley officiating.

Larry Van Crawford
MIDLAND — Larry Van Crawford, 53, our beloved husband, father and brother passed away at a Midland hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born April 23, 1950, to V.O. and Hazel Jones Crawford in Lockney, Texas. He graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1968, but remained at home the next year to help with the family farm during his father’s illness and death. In 1969, he moved to Lubbock to pursue his college degree and to follow the love of his life, Marsha Dawson. On May 15, 1971, they were married
in Earth, Texas.
Larry graduated from Texas Tech University in 1975 with a degree in business administration. Shortly after that, they moved to Midland, and Larry began his career in the insurance industry as a sales agent for Texas Farm Bureau. In 1979, he became an independent insurance agent and opened The Midland Insurance Agency. During that time, Larry was active in the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Midland and served as president from 1985-86. He was involved in the formation of the annual IIAA barbecue. In 1987, he became a partner at The Insurance Man and Associates where he continued to work daily. Larry loved the challenges of the insurance industry. His expertise and commitment to customer service will be greatly missed.
Larry was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church from 1977 to 1988, where he was active on many committees, including chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. He was involved in the early organization of AMOS (Area Mission Outreach Service) and served on this board for many years even after becoming a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. There he also held areas of responsibility and most recently served on the Finance Committee. He was a member of the Pairables Sunday School Class and loved the fellowship and friendships of this group.
Larry was a man of integrity and honesty. He had a caring and giving spirit. He was a friend that you could count on. He would see a need and accept the challenge to make a difference. He loved to entertain friends with stories and always had a joke to share. At an early age, he learned to be a compassionate caregiver to those in need and to lend a helping hand.
Some of Larry’s greatest joys in life were being involved in the lives and activities of his sons, Doug and Kevin. From their early years, he could be counted on to provide support and help as needed. He was supportive of his boys in scouting and sports. He was active in the various Little League programs as well as the Lee High School Baseball Booster Club, serving as president in 1997-98.
In addition to his church activities and business commitments, his hobby of hunting gave him a tremendous amount of pleasure. It allowed him to have quality time with friends and family. Wonderful memories were made for all that were able to share this time with Larry.
Larry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marsha Crawford of Midland; two sons, Doug and Kevin Crawford of Lubbock; a sister, Beverly Vaughan, and an uncle, Robert Crawford, both of Midland. He was preceded in death by both his parents and stepdad, J.B. Crain.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Edwards and Rev. Richard Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas. Mariam St. Clair Davis
ODESSA — Mariam St. Clair Davis, 96, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the Hospice House. She was born July 24, 1907, in Lipan, Texas, to James William and Nancy Jane Elizabeth St. Clair. She married
Marvin Davis Dec. 24, 1922, in Lipan.
Mariam was a seamstress for the Model Shop, JoAnn Shop and Bealls until she retired in 1983. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, in 1964, and brother, Paul St. Clair.
She is survived by her sons, James Davis and wife, Betty, of Midland, Billy Wayne Davis and wife, Donna, and S.M. Davis and wife, Gloria, all of Odessa; daughters, Verda Burns of Irving and Gail Teegarden of Marble Falls; brother, Odis St. Clair of Mineral Wells; sisters, Jimmie Matney of Lipan and Lydia Harris of Weatherford; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Jones and Steve Jackson officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Evergreen cemetery in Lipan, Texas, with Steve Jackson officiating.

Jeni Ayers
ODESSA — Elicia Jenice “Jeni” Ayers, 29, of Odessa, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 28, 2004, in Odessa. She was born in Odessa, Texas, on June 27, 1974, to Beverly Ayers Hutton.
Jeni was the Local Easter Seal Poster Child in 1977 and the State Easter Seal Poster Child in 1980. She attended the Lions Camp for Crippled Children in Kerrville and was a patient at the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas. Jeni graduated from Permian High School in 1994.
Jeni was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star # 447. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Odessa.
Jeni has joined her grandmother, Betty Berkley; and two aunts, Pamela Beam and Kaywin Berkley; and one uncle, Frank Berkley Jr. in Heaven.
Jeni is survived by her mother, Beverly Hutton and husband, Glynn, of Odessa; grandparents, Frank Berkley of Odessa, Frankie and Billy Ayers of Albany, Texas; stepgrandmother, Ida Hutton of Odessa; cousin, Richard Beam of Weatherford; stepsister, Aaron Morrow and husband, Dax, and daughter, Alexis, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and a host of aunts and uncles.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. H. Bailey Stone and Revs. Johnny Young and Buck Wheat officiating. Eastern Star Graveside Rites will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Terry Lee Boren
ODESSA — Terry Lee Boren, 54, of Odessa passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Regency Hospital in Odessa. Mr. Boren was born March 24, 1950, in Monahans, Texas, to Jack and Katie Lou Boren. He was a Christian and worked in the Oil Field Industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Butch Boren.
He is survived by his best friend and companion, his dog “TOJO;” brother, Ronnie Boren and wife, Laura; three nephews, Shane and wife, Mandy, Ronnie Boren Jr. and wife, Shonda, Jeff and wife, Diana; and two great-nephews, Jaden and Tyler Boren, aunt, Lota Freeman, uncles, Dick Mcanally, all of Odessa, and Jack Mcanally from Palestine; and lots of friends.
Pallbearers will be Shane, Ronnie Jr. and Jeff Boren, Jack Capps, James Hughes and Mike Hughes.

Jesse Bryan Farris Sr.
ODESSA — Jesse Bryan Farris Sr., 74, of Odessa went to join his Lord on Friday, March 26, 2004. Jesse passed away in Val Verde County, Texas. He was born on March 3, 1930, in Kenmundy, Ill., to Jesse and Florence Farris.
After the death of his father, he moved from Illinois to San Angelo as a child. He later moved to Rankin and graduated from Rankin High School in 1947. He graduated from Sul Ross University in 1952. He went directly from college into the Army and was stationed on Okinawa during the Korean War. On April 24, 1961, he was united in marriage to Martha Murphy in Rankin. They moved to Odessa in October, 1962, where he was employed by Dresser Security for 24 years until his retirement in 1986. After retiring, he managed the family ranching and oil business in Upton, Sterling and Irion counties.
Jesse was a man of strong Christian faith and a member of Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and known lovingly by his grandchildren as “Poppy.” He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; and son, Kevin; father, Jesse Farris; mother, Florence McGill; stepfather, A.B. McGill; and sister, Nancy McGill.
He is survived by Martha Farris, his wife of 43 years; sons, J.B. Farris Jr. and wife, Mary, of Carrollton, Clay Farris and wife, Roni, of Midland, Darrel Farris and wife, Brenda, of Odessa; daughter, Donna Jones and husband, Steve, of Odessa; brother, Emmett McGill, and sister, Ruth Kaufman, both of Satellite Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Amy Jones, Jill Stephen and husband, Alan, Wesley Farris, Melissa Farris and Mikelle Farris, all of Odessa, Christy and Emily Farris of Carrollton; great-grandson, Jake Stephen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa with Roy Smalling officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be J.B. Farris Jr., Clay Farris, Darrel Farris, Steve Jones, Wesley Farris and Alan Stephen. Honorary pallbearer will be great-grandson, Jake Stephen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Texas Boys Ranch in San Angelo.

Lee B. Nichols
ODESSA — Lee B. Nichols 82, of Odessa passed away on March 26, 2004, at Alliance Hospital in Odessa. He was born on July 2, 1921, in Gage, Okla., to Rex and Ada Nichols.
He was a WWII Army veteran. After leaving the Army, he came to Odessa and began working in the oil field for many years as a caser. He was employed with Lewis Casing and Permian Casing for many years and retired from Roy’s Tong Rental. Lee’s favorite past times included fishing, Domino’s and beating his granddaughter Wendy at Gin. Lee was a member of the local Eagle’s Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, his parents and a brother.
He is survived by a brother, Lee Vaughn Nichols; a daughter; Stormy Darlene Nichols; and a granddaughter, Wendy.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Monahans Memorial cemetery.
