James Hardaway

MONAHANS -- James Leroy Hardaway, 83, of Monahans, owner/operator of a music company, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Terrace West Nursing Center in Midland.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Gene Brown officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

He was born in Brock and moved to Monahans in 1931. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors: Mother, Mamie Hardaway of Midland; sons, Don Hardaway of Arlington, Erich Hardaway of Midland, Jack Hardaway of Arlington, Steve Hardaway of Bakersfield, Calif., Barry Hardaway of Corpus Christi; brothers, Bob Hardaway of Monahans, Don Hardaway of Abilene, Tommy Hardaway of Carlsbad, N.M.; sisters, Lois Shearman of Lovington, N.M., Donnela Rogers of Eunice, N.M., Judy Devenport of Midland; and 12 grandchildren.

Edgar Keese

ODESSA -- Edgar H. Keese, 77, of Odessa, a retired employee of Lee Motor Freight, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Revs. Glenn Harlin and Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Hobbs, Texas, and moved to Odessa in 1937 from Electra. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.

Survivors: Wife, Dorothy Keese of Odessa; daughters, Cheryl Keith and Paula Dykstra, both of Odessa; and four grandchildren.

Velma Smith

SPUR -- Velma Opal Smith, 88, of Spur, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Crosbyton Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Spur Memorial cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Henderson officiating. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home.

She was born in Floydada. She was a Baptist.

Survivors: Sister, Ophelea Cannon of Safford, Ariz.

George Keen

LONGVIEW -- George Vernon Keen, 83, of Longview, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, in Longview.

Services are pending at Welch Funeral Home.

Ramiro Castillo

ALPINE -- Ramiro Cortez Castillo, 55, of Alpine, a former employee of Forcheimers, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, in Alpine.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Geeslin Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will be at Holy Angels cemetery. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home.

He was born in Del Rio and was an Army veteran.

Survivors: Mother, Luz Castillo of Irving; and brothers, Ruben Castillo and Joe Roberto Castillo, both of Irving.

Loleta Claborn

KERMIT -- Loleta "LoClaborn, 74, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Memorial Hospital in Midland.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Kermit cemetery with Blackie Ellison officiating. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home.

She was born in Stephenville and moved to Odessa four years ago from Kermit. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: Sons, Kenneth Claborn of Odessa, Bobby Claborn of Lovington, N.M.; daughters, Sue Oliver of Kermit, Beverly Holt of Odessa; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alice Copeland

DENTON -- Alice Odessa Copeland, 83, of Denton, a homemaker, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Denton Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Chapel with the Rev. Tip Hall Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Jackson cemetery in Krum.

She was born in Palmer and was Baptist.

Survivors: Brother, Richard Coulter of Irving.

Juan Cordova

FORT STOCKTON -- Juan B. Cordova, 92, of Fort Stockton, a retired National Park Service carpenter, died Monday, May 11, 1998, in Fort Stockton.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Fort Stockton Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Terlingua and moved to Fort Stockton in 1981 from Marathon. He was Catholic.

Survivors: Sons, Tony Cordova and Juan T. Cordova, both of Fort Stockton, Wallace Schultz of San Antonio; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ruth Howell

SEMINOLE -- Ruth Evelyn Howell, 76, of Seminole, a retired clerk for Seminole Water Department, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Lubbock.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Community Chapel with James T. Smith officiating. Burial will be at Gaines County cemetery. Arrangements by Boyer Funeral Home.

She was born in Slaton and had been a resident of Seminole for many years after moving from Odessa. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: Daughters, Sharon Gibson of Bartlesville, Okla., Suzanne Fortson of Kermit; sister, Fran Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Eustaquio Madrid

ANDREWS -- Eustaquio L. Madrid, 73, of Andrews, a farmer, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital in Lubbock.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be at Andrews North cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

He was born in Colorado City and moved to Andrews in 1989 from Presidio. He was Catholic.

Survivors: Wife, Carmen Madrid of Andrews; son, Armando Madrid of Andrews; daughters, Anita M. Vasquez of Andrews, Maria del Pilar M. Dominguez of Lubbock; stepsons, Hector M. Samaniego of Odessa, Manuel Hernandez of Andrews; stepdaughter, Elia Dominguez of Odessa; eight grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cleophus Gilbert

MONAHANS -- Cleophus Gilbert, 71, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at his residence.

He was born June 8, 1926.

Graveside services will be today at 10 a.m. at the Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

Lois Kelley

MONAHANS -- Lois Kelly, 85, a homemaker, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at the Monahans Senior Health Center.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Harkey Funeral Chapel and burial will follow at the Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

She was born June 17, 1912, in Poteau, Okla., and she was Baptist.

Survivors: Sons, Carter Kelley of Portales, N.M., and Frank Kelley of Irvin; daughter, Jean Crozier of Monahans; brother, Louie Holt of Pittsburg, Texas; sisters, Amber Martin of Lamesa, Odessa Harry of Irvin, Eva Jo Woolsey of Ermry and Erma Colter of Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
