Dorothy Ann ‘Dot’ McCallister

KERMIT — Dorothy Ann “Dot” McCallister went home to be with Jesus Saturday, May 8, 2004. Dot was born on October 13, 1927, in Eldorado, Ark. She moved to Wink as a teenager where she met and married her husband of 48 years, Oran McCallister.
Oran and Dot were very involved in Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in the Buffalo Trail Council, serving for over 30 years. Dot also was the organist for the First United Methodist Church of Wink, Texas, for almost 20 years. She also worked in the cafeteria of the Wink-Loving School for 16 years, until her retirement in 1985.
Dot moved to Bakersfield, Calif., in 1998 to live with her son, Jim, his wife, Patty, and their daughters, Paige and Molly, where she became a member of Laurelglen Bible Church (LBC). There Dot sang in the choir and attended women’s Bible study. She also loved to go to LBC’s Primetimer group’s game night each Thursday with her basket of UNO cards and card shuffler.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband Oran. She is survived by her son, Jim McCallister, his wife Patty, granddaughters, Paige and Molly, all of Bakersfield, Calif.
Visitation for Dot will be held at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Kermit Thursday, May 13, 2004, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Wink Friday, May 14, 2004, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Henry O. Freund officiating. Interment will follow in the Kermit cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Cooper Funeral Chapel of Kermit.

A. W. ‘Doc’ Newman

ODESSA — A. W. “Doc” Newman went to be with our Lord on Monday, May 10, 2004. He was born on Sept. 15, 1912, in Tama, Texas, to Emma and D. H. Newman.
Mr. Newman resided in a nursing facility in Palestine, Texas, at the time of his passing. Doc worked for Reliable Machine & Supply for over three decades where he retired in 1975. Doc had a great love for children of all ages. He was a member of the Optimist Club and a member of the Permian Band and Orchestra Booster Club for 11 years.
After the death of his wife, he became very active in High Sky Childrens Home where he became known as “the Cake Man.” Never a week went by when he failed to bake a birthday cake or banana pudding decorated for that special child.
Doc was loved by all those who knew him, friends and relatives alike. He loved to tell a joke and was always anxious to help anyone who ever had a need of any kind. He always had a smile and a friendly word for all those he came in contact with. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him, but we rejoice that he is now in God’s hands.
Doc is survived by his daughter, Marie Hardin of Palestine, Texas; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with his nephew Fred Neyland, formerly of Odessa, officiating.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Sue Thompson

ODESSA — Lucinda Sue Thompson, 67, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2004, in Hodges.
She was born February 16, 1937, to E.D. and Gladys Wright in Denison.
She was a bookkeeper for Newman’s Package Shop, and a member of the Baptist church. She married Billy Thompson in 1952, but later divorced. She lived in Odessa until 1996, and retired to Brownwood Lake.
She is preceded in death by her son, Charles Thompson; father, E.D. Wright; mother, Gladys Wright Hines; sister, Ann Wilson; brother, Sammy Wright; and Billy Thompson.
Survivors include her sons, Ricky Thompson and wife, Sheila, of Hodges; Tommy Thompson and wife, Linda, of Abilene; Terry Thompson and wife, Karri, of Hodges; Randy Thompson and wife, Candy, of Odessa; and Curtis Thompson and wife, Kim, of Gardendale; 11 grandchildren, Brittany Thompson, Krissy Vinson and husband, Logan; Kelly Sue Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Logan Thompson, Karlee Thompson, Tyler Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Tate Thompson, Randi Thompson, and Dustin Moreau; and one great-grandchild, Blake Douglas Vinson.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God Church in Odessa, with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Billy Joe Blakely

GRANBURY — Billy Joe Blakely, 75, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Fort Worth.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Granbury. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Collinsville cemetery in Collinsville, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church of Granbury or the Pecan Plantation Emergency Service.
Bill was born to Aris and Era Blakely in Collinsville, Texas, on March 4, 1929. He graduated from Collinsville High School, and began his lifelong career in the oil industry in Goldsmith, Texas, in 1947. After a two-year tour of duty in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, he returned to West Texas, and from there he went to South America with Gulf Oil Corp.
Bill was a Master Mason in the Blue Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Suez Shrine and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granbury.
Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Belinda Jane; his parents, Aris and Era Blakely; his beloved brother; James Earl Blakely; and a sister, Marie Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Blakely of Granbury; daughters, Teena Leary and husband, Steve, of Garland, Cheryl Blakely of Dallas; grandchildren, Jonathan, Claire and Jack; sisters, Retta McFarland of Midland and Sammie Crockett of Harlingen; step-grandchildren, Julie and Ryan Leary of Dallas; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who lovingly knew Bill as BoBo.

Gene Denison

ODESSA — Gene Denison, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Hospice House in Odessa. He was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Hennepin, Okla., to his parents, Lumon W. and Frances Elfie Wisdom Dennison. They preceded him in death.
Mr. Denison was self-employed through Texaco and Shell and also worked for the State Comptrollers Office. He was a past member of a Masonic Lodge and a current member of the American Legion. He formerly was a school crossing guard. He attended Sul Ross State University in 1963-1966. He moved to Odessa in 1966 from Fort Stockton. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Hatcher; his son, Michael Eugene Denison of Round Rock, Texas; his two daughters, Susan Elizabeth Gregonis of San Angelo and Janice Lea Jeffries of Seminole, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loren Elizabeth Hillger Denison, in 1973; an infant daughter, Kelly Eugenia Denison, in 1954; and a granddaughter, Sheree Elizabeth Gregonis, in 1976.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, at East Hill cemetery in Fort Stockton, Texas, with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Family visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Adeline Wickson Geise

MONAHANS — Mrs. Adeline Geise, 87, of Monahans passed away May 12, 2004, at Monahans Managed Care Center. Mrs. Geise was born April 30, 1917, in Lovington, N.M., to the late W.A. Wickson and Lindsey Margaret Layton. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Monahans since 1991 and a prior resident of Kermit for 40 years.
Adeline married Victor Vernon Geise June 6, 1936, in Carlsbad, N.M. Mr. Geise preceded her in death in August of 1993. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, W.A. Wickson Jr., David E. Wickson, Robert “Bob” Wickson and Harold Wickson; one sister, Bessie Byler; and one grandson, Dan Curtis Hyman.
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Gail Hyman and husband, Don, of Monahans; one grandson, Michael Don Hyman and wife, Susie, of Odessa; four great-grandchildren, Matthew Hyman and wife, Leslie, of Fort Worth, Jared Hyman and wife, Natalie, of Germany, Brandi Brazell and husband, Joe, of Odessa and Joshua Hyman of Odessa; two very special nieces, Sue Ann Goehry of Denver City and Genie Cass of Grand Prairie; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Kermit cemetery with Pastor Cory Brand officiating.
Memorials may be made to Odyssey Home Health of Odessa or to Southside Baptist Church Vision Fund in Monahans.
Special thanks to Vickie Hood and R.J Taulbee for their loving care and kindness.

Eriberto ‘Beto’ Daniel

ODESSA — Eriberto “Beto” Daniel, 63 years of age, went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 15, 2004, at his Odessa residence.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1940, in Agujita Coahila, Mexico.
He is survived by his son; Eddy Daniel and his wife Kimberly G. of Westerly, R.I.; daughters Elizabeth Campbell and husband Darryll of Odessa, Armida Hinojos and husband Fidel R. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; mother Porfiria Daniel of San Angelo; brothers Guadalupe Daniel of Brownwood, Hector Daniel of San Antonio, Eliobardo Daniel of San Angelo, Jesus Daniel of San Angelo; sisters Rosa Ortega of Fort Stockton, Rosario Daniel of San Angelo; and six grandchildren, Alexandria and “Victoria” Elizabeth Hinojos, Danelle, Kelsey, Darryl and Adam Michael Campbell.
Graveside services have been set for Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Rose Hill cemetery with Reverend Rosario Hill officiating. Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Leonor Martinez

ODESSA — Leonor Martinez, 83, of Odessa, went to be with Our Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at her residence.
She was born in Dr. Gonzales, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on March 13, 1921, to Jesus and Leonor Martinez. She was a homemaker and a Christian Catholic. She united in marriage to Reynaldo Martinez in Dr. Gonzales, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on November 21, 1954, and to this marriage was born a son, Robert Martinez.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ruben and Homero Martinez; and two sisters, Celia and Tere Martinez. She is survived by her husband, Reynaldo Martinez of Odessa; son Robert Martinez and wife Karen of Odessa; brothers Agoberto Martinez and Abel Martinez; sister Tona Gonzales; all from Monterey, Mexico; and one grandchild: Blake Martinez of Odessa.
We the family would like to express our utmost sincere gratitude to all the staff at Odyssey Hospice especially Manuel Rios, Terry Baird and Dolores for the wonderful care that was given to my wife and mother during this time. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, May 18, 2004, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday May 19, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Ruth Inez (Allen) Moore

ODESSA — Ruth Inez (Allen) Moore was born April 13, 1900, near Altmon, Texas, to George Franklin Allen and Eva Angelina (Cuthbertson) Allen.
She was united in marriage to John Wilson Moore on March 16, 1919, in Erath County, Texas. To this union was born three children. Her husband preceded her in death in 1959.
She was one of eight children born to the Allen family. She was the last living survivor of the immediate Allen family and also the last survivor of the immediate Moore family. Ruth passed to her reward on May 15, 2004, in Odessa, Texas, at the age of 104.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Bobby Maurice Moore and wife, Hazel, of Little Rock, Ark., John Allen Moore and wife, Betty, of Hurst, Texas, and Janice Lynn (Moore) Munsell of Odessa; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ruth lived on the farm in Erath County near the Altmon Community all of her life until she sold the farm in 1961 and moved to Dublin, Texas. In 1999, she fell and broke her hip and was moved to the Parks Methodist Retirement Center in Odessa to be near her daughter, where she lived until her death.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at the Harrell Funeral Home in Dublin. Following the services, she will be laid to rest beside her husband John Wilson Moore at the Turnbow cemetery, in the Palm Rose Community.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the health professionals at Parks Methodist Retirement Center and Odyssey Healthcare for extending their love and genuine care for our Mom and Grandmother.
