Jesse Carrasco Jr.
ODESSA — Jesse Carrasco Jr., 60, of Odessa, Texas, was born into eternal life on Friday, May 14, 2004.
He was born May 1, 1944, in Midland, Texas, to Jesse and Mary Carrasco.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Eva; daughter, Angelique of Odessa, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and Jorge Juarez of Lubbock; daughter, Vanessa of Plano, Texas; grandson, Sebastian Pio Juarez of Lubbock, Texas; his mother, Mary Carrasco of Dale, Texas; his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Augustin Gutierrez of Dale; and numerous other family and friends.
Jesse volunteered his service in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967. On June 8, 1968, he married
his wife, Eva.
He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and served on the parish counsel, in the Holy Name Society and was a CCD instructor.
Jesse was also a foster parent for many years and still carried love and concern for each child that lived in his home.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great love for his family.
Jesse was a mailman for the Ector County Independent School District for 17 years.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Father Joe Eucker officiating. Burial will follow at the Ector County cemetery.
Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.

Vivian Pearson
MONAHANS — Vivian Elwanda Thrasher Pearson died at her home in Monahans on May 14, 2004.
Vivian was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Dolph, Ark., to James and Martha Thrasher.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 17th at the Third and Dwight Street Church of Christ in Monahans. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18th, at the Paoli, Okla., cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.
Vivian graduated as salutatorian from Paoli High School in 1939. She married
Raymond Pearson on May 29, 1944, in Oklahoma. After living in Oklahoma and California, they settled in Monahans, Texas, in 1964, where they raised their family.
Vivian was a quiet, generous and warm mother and friend to the many wonderful people in her life. She was known for her cooking, her good humor and quiet faith. Vivian loved her family and spoiled them whenever possible. She was a longtime member of the Third and Dwight Street Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time with her friends at Monahans’ Senior Citizens Center.
She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her and called her friend.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 1987; her son-in-law, Don Nall, in 1992; two sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Philip and Sharon Pearson of Pine Bluff, Ark., Pamela Nall of Odessa, Texas, and Robert and Linda Pearson of Longview, Texas; grandchildren, Sandra Malarcher of Round Rock, Texas, Philip Pearson of Grapevine, Texas, Joseph Pearson of Waco, Texas, William Nall and Christopher Nall, both of Odessa, Texas, and David Pearson and Amy Pearson of Longview, Texas; great-grandchildren, Maddison Greene and Sarah Pearson, both of Grapevine, Texas; sisters, Opal Gross and Mary Richardson; and brother, Jake Thrasher of Oklahoma.
Charlie Brown
KERMIT — Charles Richard Brown, 65, of Kermit, went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 7, 2004. Charlie was born March 6, 1939, in Paris, Ark. He was the son of the late Sammie Brown and Martha Redding Brown. Charlie proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He married
Judy McAllister on September 14, 1979, in Lauren, South Carolina. They were residents of Kermit since 1985 and members of the First Assembly of God Church in Monahans, where Charlie served on the deacon board. He was employed as a pumper for Chaparral Energy. He was a workaholic, but somehow always found time for his family and a little fishing.
Charles is survived by his wife, Judy Brown of Kermit; four sons, Michael Brown and Cody Brown of Petaluma, Calif., Richard Frady of Russellville, Ark., and Jeffrey Frady of Newberry, S.C.; and three daughters, Kelly King of Fort Worth, TX., Rebekah Rideout of Odessa, TX., and Sherry O’Quinn of Newberry, S.C. Survivors also include his brothers, Jerry Brown of Spiro, Okla., and Larry Brown of Odessa, TX; his sisters, Barbara Nichols of Carthage, Mo., and Elizabeth DeCoster of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His parents and one sister, Dorothy Gentry, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Family Services Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Woody officiating. Pallbearers will be Demetrio Lujan, Bobby Lentz, David Natividad, Jim Garret, Byron Cody and Anson Luna. Charlie will be laid to rest with military honors at the Kermit cemetery following the funeral services.
Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Mattie M. Struck
MUNDAY — Mattie M. Struck, 86, of Roswell, N.M., passed away June 8, 2004, at her home surrounded by her family.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, at Johnson Memorial cemetery in Munday, TX, with the Rev. Rex Lee Holt of Clovis, N.M., officiating.
Family will receive friends at the McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday, TX., from 5 until 7 p.m. today.
Mattie was born on November 7, 1917, in Emory, TX., to Andrew and Narcie Jane Ward Nichols.
She married
Nolan Struck May 18, 1940, in Vera, TX. He preceded her in death July 31, 1967, as well as both parents; four brothers, Homer, Ervin, A.C. and Aubrey; two sisters, Velma and Bea; and four grandchildren, Nicole, Kristi Myers, Foster Struck, and Becky Bryson.
Before moving to Roswell, Mattie worked as a lunchroom cook for Weinert School in Weinert, TX. She has been a resident of Roswell for the past thirty years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Senior Citizen Club, Chaves County Senior Olympics Bowling Team and the Joy Center.
Survivors include her sons, Lyndal R. Struck and his wife, Sue, of Odessa, TX.; and Clifton N. Struck and his wife, Jeanie, of Odessa, TX.; daughter, Debra C. Richey of Roswell, N.M.; brother, Norman Dale Nichols and his wife, Wanda, of Midland, TX.; sisters-in-law, Ludie Nichols of Roswell and Merlene Nichols of Mineral Wells, TX.; sisters, Dessie Cox and her husband, Hal, of Carlsbad, N.M., Cloris Reeves of Clyde, TX., Audrey Holt and her husband, Rex, of Clovis, N.M., and Jean Rogers and her husband, Clinton, of Stamford, TX.; and grandchildren, Twala Struck, Stephanie Struck, Amy Patton, Joey Myers, Craig Struck and Erica Frye.
Joshua Matthew Rojas
VICTORIA — Airman 1st Class Joshua Matthew Rojas, formerly of Odessa, TX, died on Wednesday April 7, 2004, at Ft. Lewis Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft. Lewis, WA.
He was born on March 6, 1984, in Victoria, TX, to DeAnna Huse of Midland, TX, and Jose D. Rojas of Dominica, WI. He graduated from Permian High School in 2002 where he enjoyed participating on the Permian Panthers football team.
He joined the United States Air Force in October 2002 and was currently stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. He honorably served in the 654th Mechanic Squadron.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, James Rojas and wife, Ruby, of Midland, TX; a sister, Kathryn Rojas; and niece, Kyra Smiley of Lubbock, TX; maternal grandparents, Marvin and Lucille Huse, paternal grandmother, Dolores Rojas and the late Pedro Rojas, all of Victoria, TX.
Joshua will be remembered lovingly and missed greatly by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. All those that had the opportunity to meet Joshua were touched by his love, laughter and ability to make you smile. He will be forever remembered by friends and kept in their hearts by the stories they share.
Military services with Honor Guard will be held with Artero Memorial Funeral Home of Victoria, TX. Mass will be held Monday, April 12, 2004, at 7 p.m. and services Tuesday, April 12, 2004, at 2 p.m.

Lester James Nicholas
ODESSA — Lester James Nicholas, 76, of Odessa passed away peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2004, in Odessa after a short illness. He was born in Eastland County in the Corinth community on December 15, 1927, to John and Adelia Nicholas. He attended school in Carbon, Texas, and later married
Betty Jo Young on August 1, 1946.
After moving to Odessa in 1948, he owned and operated Nicholas Painting until his retirement in the early 1990s. Even though he had four daughters, he coached Little League Baseball for many years. He was a lifetime MOJO fan and was a longtime member of the Permian Panther Booster Club and Band Boosters. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping and football (especially the Dallas Cowboys!) But the greatest joy in his life was spending time with and helping his family and many friends. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Carbon, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and four brothers. He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Westbrook of Plano, Sandy Goode of Eastland, Leslie Nicholas of Austin and Lana Nicholas of Odessa. Also surviving are grandsons Grady Goode of Richardson, Levi Goode of Denton, and Michael Westbrook and Nicholas Westbrook of Houston; two great-grandsons; a brother, Don Nicholas of Eastland; two sisters, Beth Mayhall of Abilene and Mary Bailey of Cisco; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 12, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Family will receive visitors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Sunset Memorial.
Pallbearers are Grady Goode, Levi Goode, John Bailey, David Martin, Leo Ruiz and Robert Nicholas. Honorary pallbearers are Don Gene Martin, Travis McCrary, Tommy Don Nicholas, Danny Ray Nicholas, Ronnie Dale Williams and Nick Nicholas.

Nell Borel Winkler
ODESSA — Nell Borel Winkler passed away Saturday, April 10, 2004, in Midland.
She was born April 14, 1935, in St. Martinsville, La., to Dalson and Eugenia Borel. Nell was raised in St. Martinsville and Lafayette, La. She married
Raymond Winkler September 25, 1954, in Lafayette. Nell worked for Texas Instruments from 1977 until 1993. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; her daughter, Patricia Winkler of Midland, Texas; her son, Errol Winkler of Magnolia, Texas; her friend, Mary Gutierrez of Magnolia, Texas; her sisters, Ann Landry of Youngsville, La., Mary Thibodeaux and Hilda Stutson both of Lafayette, La.; and her brother, Walter Borel of Lafayette, La.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Rodney White officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
