Jesus Chacon
ODESSA — Jesus Chacon, 78 years of age, passed away on Aug. 6, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born on May 3, 1926, in Mexico.
He is survived by his wife, Alejandra Chacon, of Odessa; sons, Jose Chacon, Jaime Chacon, Alberto Chacon, Alfredo Chacon, Victor Chacon and Juan Mario Chacon, all of Odessa; daughters, Maria Cuellar, Socorro Villalobos, Teresa Armendariz and Juany Chacon, all of Odessa, and Maria Elena Chacon of Ojinaga Mexico; brothers, Arcadio Chacon and Primitivo Chacon, both of Mexico; sisters, Dominga Chacon and Santos Chacon, both of Mexico; 32 grandchildren, 10 and great-grandchildren.
A 7 p.m. prayer service will be held today and Monday, Aug. 8 and 9, 2004, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Iglesia de Cristo, located at 6101 Ector Ave. with Pastor Raymundo Calzadias officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jaime Chacon, Alberto Chacon, Alfredo Chacon, Victor Chacon, Juan Mario Chacon, Carlos Armendariz, Rafael Mora and Leroy Armendariz.

Hazel Windham Daniels
PALESTINE — Hazel Windham Daniels, 91, of Odessa and formerly of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at her home.
Hazel was born June 2, 1913, in Quitman, Texas, to Dave and Elzadie Windham.
Affectionately know as “Nanny” by all that knew and loved her, Hazel was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, J.T. Daniels; and infant son, Jackie.
She is survived by son, David T. Daniels and wife Bess of Humble; granddaughter, Jackie Daniels McClinton of Odessa; grandson, Jay Daniels and wife Deidra of Magnolia; and her three great-grandchildren, Danielle Daniels, Tommy McClinton and Megan McClinton, all of Odessa.
She also leaves behind family in Odessa, Sharon and Chazz Frye; and longtime friend, Betty Keen.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Bridges, Robert Bridges, Woody Bridges, James Ives, Tommy McClinton and Stuart McLen. Honourary pallbearer will be Dr. Lamar Bridges.
The family will receive guests from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster in Palestine.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Pilgrim cemetery in Elkhart with the Rev. Willie Reagan officiating.
Nathan Scott Dunlap
ODESSA — Nathan Scott Dunlap, 29, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday Aug 4, 2004 in Odessa.
Nathan was born April 25, 1975, in Lubbock, Texas, to Samuel Jay and Mona Dunlap. After growing up in Idaho, Nathan returned to Odessa where he worked as a welder for PBP Fabrication. Nathan loved motorcycles and loved to ride. Especially when it was his 883 Harley Sportster.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Samuel Jay Dunlap and Mona Blocker Dunlap, both of Chubbuck, Idaho; his brother, Gerald Dunlap also of Chubbuck; friend and love Michelle Wooten of Odessa; best friends Donnie Brooks and Cody Loyd; and many other friends who will miss him.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel.

Jessie ‘Estelle’ Gambell
ODESSA — Jessie “Estelle” Gambell, 72, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born May 5, 1932, in Newport, Texas, to Bill and Audrey Hodges. She moved to Odessa in 1969 from Lakenheath, England.
She was a homemaker and a member of Westwood Baptist Church. Estelle married
Ed Gambell on July 21, 1951 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her parents, Bill and Audrey Hodges; and brother, Bill Hodges.
Estelle is survived by her daughter, Paula Giesler and husband Harold of Odessa; sons, Phil Gambell of Austin and Bill Gambell and his wife, Cheryl, of Odessa; brother, Don Hodges and wife Alice of San Antonio; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Giesler, and Henry and Michelle Gambell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Weeks DuBose officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers include Pat Land, Dale Land, Dennis Wilhite, Joe Dell Blair, Scott Sachse and Miles Tindale.

Mike Panther
ODESSA — Mike Panther, 87, a longtime resident of Odessa passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
He was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Ralston, Okla. He retired from Phillips Petroleum where he had worked as a repairman for 37 years. He was past president of the Odessa Coin Club. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Mills Panther in 1998; son, Thomas Panther; brother, Tony Panther; and sisters, Mollie Coane and Rose.
He is survived by his son, Marlin Panther of Lompoc, Calif.; daughter, Jody Monica Phelps of Portland, Texas; brother, Phillip Austin Panther of Bartlesville, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis Frey officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

William Chester Taggart
ABILENE — William Chester Taggart, 93, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, with burial at 4 p.m. at Monahans Memorial cemetery in Monahans.
Chester was born Oct. 27, 1910, in Fisher County to Beulah and Ernest Taggart. He married
Eva Mae Smith in Abilene in 1933. He worked for Tidewater Oil Company in Fisher County and moved to Ward County in 1936, working still for Tidewater. From 1948-64, he owned Taggart Well Service in Grandfalls, Texas.
Sons Dean and Don grew up in Grandfalls and participated in the business. After retiring from the oil business and moving to Monahans, Chester owned and operated Jones Blair Paint and Custom Framing in Monahans from 1965-70. He sold that business in 1970 when he was elected Ward County judge, serving for eight years. He retired in 1978. He and Eva Mae lived in Monahans until 1995, when they moved to Abilene to be near their son, Dean, for health reasons, leaving behind lifelong friends in Grandfalls and Monahans. His wife of 60-plus years died in 1999.
In Monahans, Chester was a member of First Baptist Church, was a deacon there and very active in church and community life. In Abilene, he was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, where he especially enjoyed the sermons and wonderful Christian music, which he always commented on. One of his major regrets, after moving into a local nursing center, was that he could no longer attend worship services, or visit in the homes of his family. He appreciated the many visits and notes received while in the nursing center.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother, Carlos Taggart; and a sister, Mayme Taggart.
Survivors include sons and wives, Dean and Charlotte Taggart of Abilene, and Don and Judy Taggart of Alpine, Texas; three grandchildren and spouses, Joy and Don Taylor of Abilene, Jim and Kelli Taggart of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kathy and John Hudson of Columbus, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Autumn Taylor, Ian Taylor, Corrender Taylor, Sam Hudson and Elizabeth Hudson, whose birth he was excited to hear about just a few days before his death.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the music departments of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, Abilene, and First Baptist Church, Monahans, Texas.
Dennis ‘Dink’ Randel Thompson
ODESSA — Dennis “Dink” Randel Thompson, age 57, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, while on a job location.
Dink was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He lived in Odessa most of his life except when he was on a job pipelining, where he was a well-known and respected man. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and gaming with his family and friends.
He was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Lamesa, Texas. He married
Carolyn Jean Wheeler on April 22, 1973, in Mexico.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Thompson of Odessa; son, Dennis Thompson Jr. and wife DeeDee of Odessa; daughters, Kim Thompson and husband Dennis Huffty of Odessa, Karla Vanlandingham and husband Terry of Graham, Texas, Denise Brown and husband Glenn of Odessa and Melissa Thompson and husband Mike Figert of Odessa; brother, Winston Thompson of Bastrop, Texas; and grandchildren, JC Thompson, Randa Thompson, Haley Huffty, Corey Huffty, Taylor Atkinson, Scotty and Sean Black and Garrett Figert.
The last visit to his home in Odessa, Dink wanted to plant trees in his front yard. The family requests that no flowers be sent, instead, please send donations to Carolyn for the trees to be planted in his memory.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. The family requests casual attire for the funeral service.

Jewel Virginia Wheeler
ODESSA — Jewel Virginia Wheeler, age 88, a homemaker, passed away Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa.
She was born June 6, 1916, to Charles F. and Hattie Powers Barton. She married
Woodrow W. Wheeler on Sept. 12, 1937, in London, Coleman County, Texas. They moved to Odessa in 1948 from Coleman, and she was a member of the Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband; and parents; two brothers; three sisters; and one grandson.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Cook and husband Kenneth of Odessa; her son, James Ralph Wheeler of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Katie Jones of Coleman, Texas; grandchildren, Karen D. Coffman and husband Ronald L. of Midland, Kenneth L. Cook Jr. and wife Amy of Odessa, Steven R. Cook and wife Amy of Lubbock, Latricia Arnold and husband Monte of Arlington, Texas, Sheila Gathright and husband LeRon of Abilene, James R. Wheeler Jr. of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Bryan J. Wheeler and wife Amy of White Settlement, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at the Santa Anna cemetery in Santa Anna, Texas.
She will be in state at noon Monday at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan, in Coleman, Texas, until time of burial.
