Justin K. McLean

ALPINE — Justin K. McLean, 84, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2004, in Lubbock.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church in Alpine, Texas.
Mr. McLean was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, August 31, 1919, to Austin and Sadie McLean. He graduated from Framingham High School and Worster Trade School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War Two and was an instructor at the Amarillo Air Base. He retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Company after more than 45 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alpine where he served as an Elder and a Deacon. He also was a member of the Rotary Club in Marfa, Texas, and the Lions Club in Alpine. He married Helen Shearer, July 20, 1946, in Framingham, Mass.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Alpine; son, Mark McLean of Big Spring, TX.; daughter, Laurie Hoover of Lubbock; two brothers, Sherwood McLean of Whitinsville, Mass., and Lloyd McLean of Framingham, Mass.; two sisters, Patricia Dickey of Ashland, Mass., and Joan Zanki of Framingham, Mass.; two grandchildren, Heather McLean Neal of San Antonio and Ryan McLean of Dallas; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by two sons, John Justin McLean in 1963, and James McLean in 1989.
Family suggests memorials to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the First Presbyterian Church in Alpine or to a favorite charity.
Services arranged by Agape Funeral Chapel in Lubbock, Texas.

J.D. Starnes Jr.

MIDLAND — Joel Dow Starnes Jr. “J.D.” passed away Saturday, August 7, 2004, due to an untimely traffic accident.
J.D. was born in Rankin, Texas, on July 28, 1936, to Joel D. Starnes Sr. and Edith Harris Starnes. He attended school in Rankin until his family moved to Fort Worth in 1946. Five years later they moved to Midland where J.D. graduated from Midland High School. He proudly served his country while stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army. J.D. then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Texas Tech University in Lubbock and subsequently obtained a law degree at the South Texas School of Law in Houston.
J.D. returned to Midland in 1969 and worked with his father at Permian Abstract Company until his father’s death in 1971, when J.D. assumed control. He acquired many title companies throughout his life in numerous counties in Texas including Medina, Gillespie, Bandera, Kinney and Howard. J.D. sold Permian Abstract in 2002 and focused his energies on West Texas Abstract in Big Spring, TX.
Dow (as all his family called him) enjoyed playing golf, attending Midland High baseball games and drinking coffee with his buddies. One of his personal goals was obtaining his private pilot’s license, and he loved being able to fly to his various businesses around the state and to his retreat at Leakey, TX.
Dow most enjoyed spending time with his family and he was proudest of his two wonderful children and their accomplishments in their education, careers and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his big sister, Joanne Starnes Langston.
Dow is survived by his son, Dr. Joel D. Starnes III, wife, Janelle and their children, Drake and Mitchell of Lubbock, TX; daughter, Stephanie Corwin, husband, Steve and their daughter, Katelyn, of McKinney, TX; sister, Jean Starnes of Midland; and brother, Jon Harris Starnes and wife, Terry, of Austin. He also leaves eight nieces and nephews and ten grand-nieces/nephews.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2004, at Ellis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas, (432) 683-5555.

Jose M. Tercero

ODESSA — Jose M. Tercero, 85, of Odessa, formerly of Pecos, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born January 17, 1919, in Fort Davis. He served in the U.S. Army, Company A, 81st Reconnaissance Battalion, as a radio operator during WWII. During the war he was captured in Northern Africa and kept as a prisoner of war for 27 months; Feb. 14, 1943, until May 5, 1945. Shortly after his liberation and return home, he met and married Concepcion Olivas. The couple lived in Fort Davis and had four children. In 1953, Jose and Concepcion moved their family to Pecos. Jose was a skilled carpenter and contractor, constructing many buildings in Pecos and surrounding areas.
While in Pecos, he and Concepcion served the community in many facets. He was a sponsor of the Leo Club, the CYO Club and was past president of the Lion’s Club. He was a member of the Catholic War Veteran’s Club, the American Ex-Prisoners of War Club, the Holy Name Society, and a volunteer for the Christmas in April organization. He was also a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. He and Concepcion helped co-found the Santa Rosa Credit Union in Pecos and were active members of the Santa Rosa Catholic Church and St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Jose had a strong sense of community involvement. He helped many individuals while in Pecos and never turned anyone away. He had a close relationship with God and had a very strong faith as a Christian. He loved and supported his family dearly. He had a good long life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Concepcion and his parents, Nabor and Maria Tercero.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Mary Botello and husband, Roy, of Orange Park, Fla.; son, Steve Tercero and wife, Aurora, of Odessa; daughters, Priscilla Ely and Rosa L. DeLaO and husband, Ralph, all of Odessa, He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Barbara Praeger of Lake Mary, Fla., Diane Botello of Orange Park, Fla., Lorinda Tercero, Stephanie Tercero, Jesse Ely, Joel Ely, all of Odessa, Israel DeLaO of Arlington, Jeremy DeLaO of Odessa, Vanessa Meadors of Wahiawa, HI., and Aaron DeLaO of Odessa; 3 great-grandchildren, Caitlin Botello, Jeremy Jr. DeLaO and Emry DeLaO; his brothers, Dolores “Lolo” Tercero and wife, Lupe, of Surprise, Ariz., and Ildefonso “Al” Tercero and wife, Donna, of Prescott, Ariz.; and sisters, Fabiola Garcia and husband, Pedro, of El Monte, Calif., and Teresa Hernandez of Surprise, Ariz.
The family will receive visitors at 6 p.m and a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. He will lie in state Thursday, August 12, 2004, at Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos beginning at 1 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Pecos with the Rev. Frank Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Evergreen cemetery in Pecos.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa and Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos.

Cletis Josie Hutson

ODESSA — Cletis Josie Hutson, our “MaMa”, 97, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at her residence. She was born March 27, 1907, in Nacogdoches County. In 1954, after farming in Nacogdoches County for years, she and her family moved to Odessa. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed children and taught the Beginners Sunday School Class for 13 years at the old Immanuel Baptist Church.
Before her health failed she enjoyed working in her greenhouse, gardening and sharing her flowers with friends. Mrs. Hutson also enjoyed visiting in nursing homes, helping with the sick and she worked as a volunteer with Meals On Wheels for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Willie Ray Hutson; brothers, Lyndell Lowery and Woodrow Lowery; sisters, Vera Lowery, Esther Jacobs and Lorene Grogan; and her mother and father. Survivors include her son, Lowery Hutson and wife, Lou Ann, of Odessa; daughters, Mildred Lucas of Odessa and LaVerne Hill and husband, Grady, of Nederland; sister, Gertrude Parker of Dallas; grandchildren, Lynda Jackson, Bennie Jackson, Debbie Snodderly, Dee McKee, Steven Hutson, Geoffrey Hutson, Mike Wisener, Timmothy Wisener and Denna Whitaker, 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church with Brother Jess Little of Sunset Heights Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Odessa Meals On Wheels in her memory.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Michael James Woods

ODESSA — Michael James Woods, 41, of Clyde, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at an Abilene Hospital.
Michael was born April 1, 1963, in Odessa, Texas to Jim and Doris Woods. He grew up and attended school in Crane, TX,, graduating from Crane High School. After graduating, Michael joined the United States Army, serving from 1981 until 1983 at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He married Tommye Parker in Odessa on February 6, 1993. Michael worked as the Warehouse Manager for Harbison-Fischer Production Pumps of Abilene for the past three years. Above and beyond that, Michael was truly a devoted son, father and husband. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his wife, Tommye; children, Jacob Michael and Rachel June; parents, Jim and Doris Woods of Odessa; sister, Deborah Franklin and husband, Mike, of Midland; niece, Desiree Farmer and husband, Jayme, and great niece, Demi, all of Midland; paternal grandmother, Gerdeane Woods Walker of Graham; mother and father-in-law, Jim and Faye McKee of Gordon; brothers and sister-in-law, Johnny and Carla Parker of Midland, Sue and Larry Jackson of Odessa, Deanna and Mike Hamilton of Odessa, Joseph Parker of Kingsland, Pamela and Blake Bayer of Liberal, Kan., and Mary and Dennis Hamilton of Austin; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tim Evans, Jr. Juarez, Paul Turnacliff, Jimmy Don Robinson, Buddy Jenkins and Don Heald.
Visitation with family will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Sherwood Baptist Church of Odessa with the Rev. Elwin Collum and the Rev. Amon Langston officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Nona J. Fee

ODESSA — Nona J. Fee, 75, of Odessa, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in Odessa.
She is survived by daughter, Nancy Bull of Hot Springs, Ark.; sister, Wanda Fox of Odessa; grandson, Winston Bull of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services have been scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Zion Christian Church with the Rev. Dewey Blevins officiating.
Donations may be made to Home Hospice of Odessa.
Services have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Florence Marie Webb

ODESSA — Florence Marie Webb went home to be with her Lord on July 14, 2004, surrounded by her family.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick Westfall officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden.
She is survived by her children, Melvin Roy Webb Jr. of Odessa, Surina White and her husband, Michael L. White, of Odessa, Katerina Dancer of Michigan, Walter R. Webb of Odessa, Cheryl Sawyer and her husband, Andy, of Odessa and Pauline Sutton of Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Roy Webb, Sr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Austin A. Griggs of Odessa; her brother, Walter F. Griggs of Conroe; and her sister, Mrs. May “Jack” Gaile of Odessa.
Mom was born on December 1, 1924, in Stamford, Texas, and married Melvin R. Webb Sr. on April 4, 1942. After the war, they settled in Colorado before moving to Odessa in 1948. Our parents started their family shortly thereafter by adopting five children and raising her niece Pauline Sutton. Mom was a Baptist and attended Midessa Heights Baptist Church.

Emmett C. Worley

ODESSA — Emmett C. Worley, 87, a resident of Odessa since 1939, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born May 27, 1917, in Childress, Texas. He graduated from Hobbs, N.M., High School. He was a pipeline contractor and fabrication shop owner. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Worley of Odessa; son, Ron Worley and wife, Andrea, of Odessa; daughters, Lanita Hammock and husband, Douglas, of Midland and Rita Hossle of Odessa; sister, Novalene Addison of Lamesa; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Bauernfeind officiating. Interment will follow at Ector County cemetery.

Louise Anderson

ODESSA — Louise Anderson, 75, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004, in Odessa at Medical Center Hospital. She was born July 17, 1929, in Ocarche, Oklahoma, to her parents, Oscar Leonard and Hattie Bell Logston Steelman.
Mrs. Anderson came to Odessa in 1980 from Notrees. She married Frank Anderson in Deerfield, Kansas, May 4, 1947. Her parents, her husband and her son, Bill Ray Anderson preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of Parkview Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Anderson of Lago Vista, Texas; her daughter, Carol Watson of Odessa; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Parkview Church of Christ with Dennis Dillon officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Funeral services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
