Travis Luther Bell
ODESSA — Travis Luther Bell, 75, passed away July 19, 2004, at Avalon Nursing Home. Mr. Bell was born August 12, 1928, in Doole, Texas, to S.C. Bell and L.E. McMutter.
Mr. Bell was a retired City of Odessa employee. He served as a Police Officer, Jailer, Animal Control Officer and as a driver for the Sanitation Department; he worked for the City of Odessa for 28 years. Mr. Bell also served Ector County as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff Officer. He was past president of the Eagles Lodge. Mr. Bell loved to travel, play guitar and fiddle; he also loved to share stories and loved to meet people. Mr. Bell was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was awarded the Occupation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star and the United Nation Service Medal.
Mr. Bell was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Military graveside services with the VFW will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Burt Groves Officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Bell is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lillian M. Bell of Odessa; a daughter, Rose Tune of Odessa; granddaughters, Brandy Tune and Denise Jackson and husband, Danny; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Taran Jackson; and two brothers, Eugene Bell of Bangs and James Bell of Mineola.

Billie Love
ODESSA — Billie Love, 76, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004, in Garland.
She was born December 7, 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama to her parents, William and Chessie Dwyer Simpson.
She married
Ralph Love on December 15, 1945, in Alabama and moved to Odessa in 1955. She was a homemaker and an active member of the 6th & Jackson Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph of Odessa; her son, William Curtis Love of Burke, Virginia; her daughter, Rory Qualls of Garland; her two sisters, Edith Garrison of Center Point, Alabama and Marian Pike of Pensacola, Florida; three grandchildren, Renae and Troy Jones. Bin Love and Rachel Love; and two great-grandchildren, Ginnie Jones and Lauren Jones.
Family visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at 6th & Jackson Church of Christ with the Ministers Bennie Keck and Lynn Money officiating.

Robert ‘Bob’ W. Southard
MIDLOTHIAN — Robert “Bob” W. Southard passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004. He was born October 16, 1950, in Artesia, New Mexico, to Robert A. and Mary Southard.
He is survived by his wife, Linda K. Southard of Midlothian; one daughter, Christine Southard of Midlothian; stepdaughter, Laura Short and husband, Jason, of Midlothian; stepson, Erik Haugarth of Dallas; and one grandson, Brycen Haugarth of Dallas. He is also survived by his father and mother, Robert A. and Mary Southard of Odessa; two sisters, Nita Southard of Austin and Kathy McCalman and husband, Kevin, of Odessa; one brother, Rick Southard and wife, Michyle, of Corpus Christi; one aunt, Norma Schneider of Artesia, New Mexico; two uncles, J.L. Long and wife, Dori Long, of San Antonio and James Edward Long and wife, Debbie, of Lonpoc, California; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Robert was co-owner and P.E./Practicing Engineer of Compliance Partners Inc., an engineering firm located in Midlothian.

Cody Yates
ODESSA — Cody Yates passed away July 19, at a Brownwood Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County cemetery. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Cody Yates was born August 8, 1935, in a barn in Rockwood, Texas, to S.D. and Eunice Trent Yates. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 35 years. After his retirement he moved to Lake Brownwood in 1993. Mr. Yates was an avid bowler, a participant in the Permian Playhouse, a member of the Phillips Men’s Club, American Legion, Moose Lodge, an enthusiastic singer, a harmonica player and exceptional guitar player of country western and gospel music.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lurlie Yates Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Lee Yates; his daughters, Belinda Yates Gaylor and Sondra Yates Walker and husband, Billy; his son, Trent Yates and wife, Melissa; stepchildren, Brett Evans, Mark Evans, Rebecca Pettit and Terri Evans; grandchildren, Shawnda Chester Peacock, Brandie Thomas Carney, Christi Chester, Joshua Chester, Barrett Cody Yates and Branson Yates; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linday Dominey and Sharon Yates Pumphrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
William H. Darby
McCAMEY — William Henry “Bill” Darby passed away June 28, 2004, in McCamey, Texas. A long-time resident of McCamey, Bill was born February 19, 1920, in Clinton, Ind., to Thomas E. Darby and Effie Essie Julian Darby. After graduation from Lash High School in Zanesville, Ohio, Bill held a variety of jobs including the grocery business, sales and auto mechanics. In 1941, right after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and was trained in Sherman tanks. He was promoted to Captain and became a company commander in the 752nd Tank Battalion, serving in North Africa and Italy. Bill was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his combat duty and his entire unit received a Presidential Unit Citation for spending 316 consecutive days in combat.
On January 9, 1943, Bill married
Sally Oteka Campbell in Fort Smith, Ark. After the war, Bill returned to Zanesville, Ohio, with his wife, Oteka, and began his career as an auto mechanic. Bill and Oteka had two children while living in Zanesville, William Henry Darby II and Deborah Ann Darby. In 1950, Bill and his family relocated to McCamey to be closer to his wife’s family. Bill operated Hodges Automotive in McCamey until 1985. After “retiring” from the automotive business, Bill became active at McCamey Music Mart, which is owned by his niece, Joanne Darby. He enjoyed traveling with Joanne to music functions around the area as well as out of state. Bill loved life and took everything one day at a time. Bill was a member of the American Legion and DAV, and the First United Methodist Church of McCamey. For several years, Bill was a Scoutmaster for the local Boy Scouts.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Oteka in 1984; and a brother, Thomas Julian Darby, also in 1984. Bill is survived by a son, William H. Darby II and his wife, Patricia, of Midland; daughter, Deborah Ann Darby of Cottonwood, Ariz.; sisters, Elizabeth Groce of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Jane Gosnell of Tampa, Fla., and Helen May Coulter of Zanesville, Ohio; grandchildren, William H. Darby III of Decatur, Texas, Holly Marie Ingmire of Midland and Libra Joslyn Anulf of Sweden; and great-granddaughter, Mikayla Jean Reeves of Midland. Bill is also survived by his niece and best friend, Joanne Darby of McCamey, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in McCamey with the Rev. Earl Richardson officiating and retired Rev. Jodie Windbigler will give the eulogy. Memorials may be made in memory of William H. Darby to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 964, McCamey, TX 79752, or to the charity of your choice.
Geri Ellen Emerson Holmes
MIDLAND — Geri Ellen Emerson Holmes, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004.
She was born September 19, 1945, to John M. Emerson and Besse M. Ragsdale Emerson in Texon, Texas, and was raised and educated in West Texas. Geri graduated from Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Texas. As an adult, Geri spent many years in Castle Rock, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her 2-year-old son, Byron Keith Holmes, in 1971.
Geri is survived by her daughter, Heather Olson and granddaughters, Samantha and Danee’ Olson, all of Parker, Colo.; sister, Vanda Powers of Midland, Texas; and numerous cousins.

Michael D. Goldsmith
ODESSA — Michael D. Goldsmith was born June 9, 1961, in Odessa to Jim and Jemmie Ray Goldsmith. Mike passed from this life to eternal life with our Lord June 29, 2004. Family and friends find comfort and hope in the knowledge that Mike knew our Savior.
Mike graduated from Permian High School in 1979 and received a Bachelors Degree in chemistry from UTPB. After graduation from college, Mike joined his father as a partner in Action Auto Sales, a family owned business since 1965. He went on to become sole owner and operator of Action Auto.
Mike met Melanie Lindley in 1988 and they married
on May 28, 1989 at First Baptist Church in Odessa. Mike and Melanie recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary. Mike and Melanie are the parents of three daughters. Morgan was born May 19, 1992, and the twins, Megan and Makalei February 1, 1997. Mike enjoyed the time he spent with his family and routinely took the girls shopping, to church choir, mission friends and the park.
Mike was an active member of First Baptist Church in Odessa and accepted his call to service through volunteer work at Mission Odessa. He was in the process of obtaining his Masters of Art in Biblical Studies from Temple Baptist Seminary in Tenn.
Mike is survived by his wife, Melanie and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Lindley of Midland; three lovely daughters; his parents, Jim and Jennie Ray Goldsmith of Odessa; a sister, Kristi Jumper, her husband Steve and three nephews from Midland; his paternal grandmother, Mary Pearl Lake of Odessa; an aunt, Bonnie Meegan from Wellington, Texas; and cousins, Scott and Kelli McCall of Odessa, Casey Durant of Midland and Cody Durant of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jemmie “Meme” Shoemaker; his grandfather, N.H. Lake; and his aunt and uncle, Norman and Georgia McCall.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at First Baptist Church Odessa with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. A private family burial service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Steve Jumper, Kevin Jumper, Brian Jumper, Austin Jumper, Scott McCall and Alan Lindley. Services are under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Jack P. Patton
KILGORE — Services for Jack P. Patton, 76, of Kilgore, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Robert and Pam Besser officiating. Burial will follow in Lee cemetery in Winnsboro, Texas. Mr. Patton passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at his home in Kilgore.
Mr. Patton was born October 10, 1927, in Lockhart, Texas, to the late James and Dolores Patton. He was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Mr. Patton was retired from Mobil Oil where he worked as a supervisor for nearly forty years. After retirement he worked with his brother at Patton Corporation. He also served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Japan.
His parents; five brothers; and three sisters precede Mr. Patton in death.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Vivian Patton of Kilgore; son and daughter-in-law, John Robert and Donna Patton of Odessa; daughter, Sallie Patton Hamilton of Azle; granddaughter, Victoria Hamilton of Azle; sister, Anna Belle Collins of Houston; brother, Allen Patton of Luling; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

Isabella L. Almon
SAN ANTONIO — Isabella L. Almon, of Midland, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2004.
She was born January 17, 1923, to James Tallon and Hazie Lee Goolsby Tallon in San Antonio, Texas, and was raised and educated in Brownsville, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Robert Almon and great-grandchild, Jeremiah Herron.
Isabella is survived by her son, William Robert “Bill” Almon IV of Houston, Texas; daughters, Carol Harris of Midland, Texas, and Sharon E. Murano of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2004.
