Pearl Keel
MONAHANS — Pearl Keel, 96, of Monahans, a homemaker, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004, at the Hospice House in Odessa. She was born April 23, 1908, in Clinton, Ky. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Heritage Funeral Chapel with Roy Smalling officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
She is survived by daughter, Pat Reynolds of Monahans; sisters, Billie Taylor of St. Louis and Bea Radley of Springfield, Mo.; granddaughters, Kathy Fausett Patterson of Monahans and Debbie Gualco of Sacramento, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Leigh Neves and Nicolas Fausett, both of Monahans, Coby Robison of Leander and Amber Vanlandingham of Canyon; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House, 902 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX.

Angelita Gonzalez Sosa
ODESSA — Angelita Gonzalez Sosa passed away Monday, July 5, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Mrs. Sosa was born June 13, 1938, in Austin, Texas, to father, Juan Gonzalez, and mother, Santos Medina, who both preceded her in death.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. today, July 7, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odessa with Fr. Joe Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County cemetery in the Rose Hill section.
She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Hernandez and husband, Ben, of Houston, Texas, Diana Quezada and husband, Lencho, of Odessa, Hilda Guiterrez and husband, Bernie, of Caldwell, Texas, and Joanna Gonzalez of Ontario, Ore.; sons, Daniel Sosa and Eddie Sosa, both of Odessa and Loyd Calderon and wife, Laura, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Gilbert Gonzalez of Austin, Texas; five sisters, Lucy Rodriguez of Midland, Beatrice Luna of Ontario, Ore., Judy Gonzalez of Austin, Texas, Hilda Ybarra of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Janie Rodriguez of Ontario, Ore.; 27 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Vivian Denise Francies Hubert
ANDREWS — Services for Vivian Denise Francies Hubert, 50, of Andrews, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church. Officiating will be Minister Moody Conner of Andrews and the Rev. Michael Ball of Midland. Burial will follow in the Andrews West cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.
Vivian died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Andrews. She was born November 30, 1953, in Harris County, Texas. She graduated in 1971 from Cy-Fair Senior High School in Cypress, Texas. She attended Sul Ross State University where she graduated in 1974. Vivian taught in Lamesa one year, and she taught in Andrews for 29 years. She was selected by her principal and peers as the Andrews Rotary Club outstanding teacher of the year in 1995. She had served on the Andrews Planning Commission, the Underwood Elementary Citation Committee and the State-Wide Education Committee. Vivian Francies and Hiram Hubert were married
on June 21, 1975, in Prairie View, Texas. Vivian was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Hiram of Andrews, Texas; son, J. Christopher Hubert of Irving, Texas; parents, James and Nannie Francies of Prairie View, Texas; brothers, Artis Francies and Tyrone Francies, both of Prairie View, Texas; and sister, Patricia Francies of Dallas, Texas.

Lynda Triplitt Mears
ODESSA — Lynda Triplitt Mears, 62, died peacefully Sunday, June 27. Lynda was a graduate of Texas Tech University. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, various art associations and VFW Post 4372. Lynda was a schoolteacher and an entrepreneur. She leaves behind many loving, caring friends.
Lynda is preceded in death by her sons, Kirk and Kris Mears, and her dad, Cecil Triplitt. She is survived by her loving mother, Margie Triplitt and several cousins.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 1, in Cisco, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
Sharon Denise Dennis Smallwood
ODESSA — Sharon Denise Dennis Smallwood, 44, of Odessa, passed away Friday, June 25, 2004, at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born December 29, 1959, in Big Spring, Texas. She married
Richard Smallwood July 26, 2002, in Odessa. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Smallwood of Odessa; son, Zachary Grady of Odessa; daughters, Xana Dennis of Odessa and Bethany Stinton of New Braunfels; parents, Mary Lou and Micky Blakeney of Midland; grandmother, Bessie Lee of Midland; brother, Scott Dennis of Odessa; and grandson, Brenden Stinton.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leland Maples officiating.

Lisa M. Wade
ODESSA — Lisa M. Wade, 40, of Odessa passed away Monday, June 28, 2004, at her residence. She was born August 30, 1963, in Odessa. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1981. She had been a hairdresser for 28 years, the last salon she worked for was Salon 2000. She was a member of the Tree Of Life Foursquare Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and JoAnn Wade.
She is survived by her sons, Austin Wade and Aaron Wade, both of Odessa; sisters, Deborah Croom and Vicki Llora, both of Odessa; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Lisa was loved by everyone who knew her, and she loved just the same. She endured the suffering of life by the grace of God. She is now in heaven and no longer hurts. She is missed very deeply, but we are promised a reunion.

Margarita Guerrero-Avendaño
DEL RIO — Margarita Guerrero-Avendaño, a remarkable mother, aunt, sister, grandmother and friend, was called home July 19, 2004, at the age of 71, to be with her beloved “Yayo.”
She is survived by her three children: son, Victor L. Guerrero and wife, Desiree, of Monahans; and daughters, Mariza and husband, Robert Sanchez, and Mayte’ and husband, Mario Casas, all of Del Rio. Margarita is also survived by her much cherished grandchildren: Jayda, Polli, Andrew, Victoria, Analiza, Michael, Victor Jr. and Dylan Matthew. She leaves behind her devoted brother, Hector Avendaño of Del Rio; and loving sisters, Maria del Socorro “Nena” of Saltillo, Mexico, and Maria Guadalupe “Lupina” of Muzquiz, Mexico.
Margarita was a beautiful caring lady who touched our lives with her wonderful caring spirit and loving heart. Her smile will be greatly missed.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel in Del Rio, Texas. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Del Rio with her friend, Father David Herrera officiating. Interment will follow with graveside services at 3:30 p.m. at Fort Stockton Catholic cemetery in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Wanda Browning
DALLAS — July 15, 2004, Wanda Jo Browning of Richardson, Texas, passed from this life. Loving mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by sons, Rick Browning and Steve Browning and wife, Cathy; grandchildren, Amber, Taylor and Bryce; her granddog, Angel; sisters, Tommie “Peaches” Foster of Wexford, Pa., and Rubye “Sis” Murphy and Norma Prather, both of Odessa, Texas. Her only brother, Paul Prokish, preceded her in death in April 1996.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, at Restland Memorial Park.
Family received friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Restland Funeral Home.

Reed W. McFarland
ODESSA — Services for Reed McFarland will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, at 1st Christian Church with the Rev. Diane L. Garrett officiating.
Reed was born February 28, 1909, in Washburn, Texas, to William Watkins McFarland and Mary Ode McFarland. Reed died July 20, at the Odessa Hospice House.
Mr. McFarland was married
August 31, 1927, to Juanita Pybus in Clarendon, Texas.
The family moved to Goldsmith in 1936. Reed was a driller for Bass & Kelly Drilling Company. Mr. McFarland began to teach in the National Defense School. When the school disbanded, they donated their shop to Odessa High School in 1941. Mr. Mac, as he was known to his students, was asked to teach the machine shop and welding, later adding mechanics to his duties. Mr. McFarland received his final degree from Eastern New Mexico University. He taught at Odessa High School for 26 years. He was Director of Physical Facilities at Odessa College for 11 years.
Mr. Mac had many hats. A major in the Civil Air Patrol, a 32 degree Mason for the Blue Lodge #955 and Scottish Rites where he was a member for 50 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and a 50-year member of the 1st Christian Church. He was a pilot for many years, a member of the Antique Automobile Association, Retired Teachers Association and the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors.
Reed was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, in 1990 and by his daughter-in-law, Janis Ann McFarland, in 2002.
He is survived by his two sons, Billy G. McFarland of Odessa and Michael Reed McFarland of Malakoff, Texas; three grandchildren, Judith Ann Martin of Grapevine, Jearold G. McFarland of Odessa and Robert C. McFarland of Wylie, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jannine McFarland of Wylie, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Reed McFarland wished to express their gratitude to CoCo Noll and her family for their love and friendship in these later years.
Mr. McFarland had many friends who have expressed their friendship through cards and letters and visits the last six months.
Family visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Elmer Carl Grant
ODESSA — Elmer Carl Grant, 67, passed away August 2, 2004. He is survived by his wife Martha Grant of Imperial. He was born in Petersburg, Okla., to Doise and Connie Grant. He was a 32nd Mason degree member of Masonic Lodge #1285 in Imperial, Texas. Raised April 13, 1971, life member granted September 9, 1987. Carl was the District Education Officer 1991-1997 and District Deputy Grand Master District 57 in 1978. The Grand Lodge in Texas A.F. and A.M. Carl was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served many years as the Worthy Patron. He was ordained as a Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Imperial, Texas, February 13, 1983. Carl coached little league baseball from 1967-1981.
Carl served on the Board of Trustee for the Buena Vista School District in Pecos County, Appraisal Board and Pecos County Water District #2. He was a leader for Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts. Carl announced the football games at Buena Vista ISD for 37 years and was Santa Clause at the Christmas Programs for 35 years. Carl served in the National Guard. Elmer Carl Grant is survived by his wife, Martha Grant of Imperial; son, Marty Grant and his wife, Dottie, of Monahans; brothers, Wylie Grant of Rankin and Dwaine Grant of Wichita Falls; daughters, DeLane Cagle and her husband, Rick, of Rankin, Joy Choate and her husband, Rick, of Arlington and Pam McLaren and her husband, Steve, of Klondike, TX. He is survived by his grandchildren, Jacqueline Pullen and husband, Jeremy, of Odessa, Carla Davis and husband, Zeth, of Lubbock, Jennifer Hall and her husband, Joe, of Monahans, Cortney Cagle, Cody Cagle, Travis McLauren, Trevor McLauren and Tayton McLauren. He is survived by his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Grant, Kaiden Hall and Crystal Davis. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Doise and Connie Grant; his brother, Kenneth Grant; his sister, Josie Snapp; his grandchild, Amber Nessmith; and great-grandchild, Jaden Davis.
Pallbearers will be Brent Snapp, Stacy Snapp, Scott, Grant, Robert Grant, Mike York, Willie Gathings, Billy Graham, Casey Grant, Dustin Grant and Allen York. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leldon Greer, Bo Maben, A.D. Jackson, B.E. Burton, Gary Snapp, Robert Davison, Jon Bannister, David Mitchell, Bob Harris and Richard Nye.
Family members will be served lunch at the Second Baptist Church, 711 E. 17th Street, Odessa, Texas. Services will be held at 2 p.m. August 5, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Brother John H. Walker Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. 8 p.m. Wednesday August 4, 2004, at Sunset Funeral Home.
