James Phillip Fouche Sr.
ODESSA — James Phillip Fouche Sr., 82, of Odessa, Texas, passed away June 14, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
Phil Fouche Sr. was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Atlanta, Texas, to James Herbert and Fannie Hardy McCoy Fouche. He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1938 and went on to East Texas State University. He volunteered to serve in World War II in 1942 and trained with the British Commando of British 8th Army. Phil participated in the North African Campaign: with Battles of Fon Duke Pass, Faide Pass, Casserine Pass, Hill 609, Hill 507 and Hill 490. His company joined the U.S. 5th Army and continued in the Invasion of Italy. On Jan. 9, 1944, Phil was shot at The Battle of Monte Cassino, in Cassino, Italy, with the US Army Company I, 133rd infantry, and 34th Division for which he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. This invasion ultimately freed Monte Cassino from German occupation. He then went on to participate on the Bond Tour raising money for the troops.

Chrystal Walker in Atlanta, Texas. They moved to Hobbs, N.M., where their two children, James Phillip Jr. and Lynn Francis, were born. From Abilene, the family moved to Odessa in June of 1958. Phil Fouche Sr. worked for Totco, Fidelity Oil, Industrial Oil, Frank’s Fuel and was employed by Eddins-Walcher at the time of his death.
Phil was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Permian Booster Club, Texas A&M Twelfth Man Foundation and was a 32nd Degree Mason. His focus was his family and everything they were involved in. if there was a game, recital, concert, program or any other activity involving family or friends, he was a part of it. Phil’s gentleness, loving spirit, happy whistle and positive nature will be missed. No Permian or Texas A&M game will ever be the same without his cheerleading!

He is survived by his wife, Chrystal Walker Fouche of Odessa; son, James Phillip Fouche Jr. and wife Cindy of Odessa; and daughter, Lynn Fouche Correa and husband Randy of Odessa. He has six grandchildren, Todd Phillip Fouche and wife Melissa of Frisco, James Andrew Fouche of Washington, D.C., Ashlee Lynn Correa Thompson and husband Joe Dee of Odessa, Jody Hopkins of Frisco, Nathan Hopkins of Frisco and Johnny Hopkins of Lubbock; and one great-grandchild, Tatum Grace Fouche of Frisco.
Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pinecrest cemetery in Atlanta, Texas, with the Rev. John Wilkey officiating.

Willie Jo Kasko
ODESSA — Willie Jo Kasko, 87, a retired executive secretary and loving wife joined her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 17, 2004
Jo was born in Grandview, Texas to William Morris and Mary M. Morris whom both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Frank D. Kasko and by her one brother and three sisters.
Jo and Frank had a beautiful life and although they were never blessed with their own, they loved children of all ages and claimed their nieces and nephew as a vital part of their lives.
Jo was a descendent of one of Texas’ oldest pioneer families. She was a great-granddaughter of Young H. Hamilton, who served in the Mexican War and established Presbyterian churches in Hill, Ellis and Johnson counties.
She was a family descendent of Henry Smith, the first provisional governor of Texas.
After graduating from Hillsboro Junior College, she completed Cullen School of Business in Cleburne, TX while serving as a clerk and court reporter in Johnson County. In 1941 she moved to Fort Worth to continue her education at Texas Christian University and to work as an executive secretary at Convair Aircraft. In 1946 she began a long career as an executive secretary with Gulf Oil Corporation in Fort Worth, Midland and Odessa.
Jo was an ACBL Bridge Life Master. She played duplicate bridge in Midland, Odessa and throughout the Southwest. She was also a member of Chevron Retirees Association.
Jo was a loyal member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord where she enjoyed Sunday School and singing in the choir and was a member of the Tuesday Morning Bible Study Group.
The family wishes to thank Home Hospice Odessa and her caregivers, Rosie Rodriquez and Velma Sanchez.
She is survived by brother-in-law, Jimmy Jones of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Rebecca Morris of Kellyville, OK; nephew, Joe C. Harrison, Jr. and wife Jan of Fort Worth; nieces Mary Kay Wooten and husband Barry of Odessa; Peggy Robertson and husband, Barry of Odessa; Peggy Robertson and husband, Lee of Baytown; Polly Bates and husband, Sam of Idalou; great-nephews Adam, Harrison, Cole Robertson, Samuel Bates, Chris Bates, and Cody Robertson; great-nieces Kayla Lockie and Casey Robertson; numerous cousins and friends; and special pet cat Fluffy.
Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord on Monday June 21, 2004 at 1:00 PM with Rev. James Otterness and Kevin Bushart officiating.

R.C. Kelley Sr.
GADSDEN, Ala. — A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Collier-Butler Chapel in Gadsden, Ala., for Mr. R.C. Kelley Sr., age 81, of Gadsden, who died Friday, June 18, 2004.
The Rev. Gene Bledsoe will officiate. Burial will be at Cave Springs cemetery.
Collier-Butler Funeral Home, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL, 35901, is directing.
Mr. Kelley was born on Dec. 12, 1922, in Randolph County to Isaac and Annie Kelley. He moved in 1956 to Odessa, Texas, and returned home to his beloved Alabama in 1981.
He was a disabled veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie Mae Bolt Kelley; son, Stevie Wayne Kelley; sisters, Ollie Mae Willett, Velma Spencer and Valere Parris, Beatrice McCurley; and brothers, Commer Kelley and Andrew Kelley.
He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Kelley; daughter, Barbara Nell Long and husband Mickey of Odessa; son, Quinton Kelley and wife Pat of Odessa; stepson, Tim Proctor and wife Debbie of Odessa; nine children; brother, Ira C. Kelley of Gadsden, Ala.; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-children; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lovetta Fern Routh Massey
ODESSA — Lovetta Fern Routh Massey went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2004.
She was the eldest of six children, born Sept. 8, 1926, to Roy Newton Routh and Vera Beatrice Mefford Routh.
She married
Cleveland Eugene Massey on Oct. 8, 1949, in Raton, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her brother Nathan Routh.
Her survivors include son, Billy Don Massey of Odessa; son, Jimmy Massey and wife Kay of Michigan; daughter, Janice Freeman and husband Tom of Newport News, Va.; son, Joe Massey and wife Rhonda of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one sister, Lorene Owens of Odessa; and one brother, Douglas Routh of California.
She was raised in Gould, Okla. Mrs Massey graduated from Trinidad Junior College in 1948 and taught for four years before moving to Texas in the mid-50s. She graduated Sul Ross University at Alpine in August of 1962 with an Education Degree.
She dedicated her life to teaching the young. She retired after 34 years of teaching for Ector County Independent School District. Beginning in the fall of 1962 at Austin Elementary until mid-term, then she moved to Travis Elementary. She retired from Travis Elementary in May 1992.
She was a member of Vine Baptist Church in Odessa.
There will be a visitation from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Henry R. Rodriguez
ODESSA — Henry R. Rodriguez, 39, passed away Friday, June 18, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Mr. Rodriguez was born July 5, 1964, in Lamesa, Texas, to father Eufracio Rodriguez and mother Julia Reyes Rodriguez. Henry was Catholic.
You can view Mr. Rodriguez from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home, with a rosary being said at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. He is survived by his son, Henry Rodriguez Jr. of Dallas; two daughters, Melinda R. Rodriguez of Ft. Worth and Marina Rodriguez of Odessa; his parents, Eufracio and Julia Rodriguez, both of Odessa, maternal grandparents, Ysidro and Emma Reyes, both of Odessa; paternal grandmother, Concepion C. Rodriguez of Beeville; and three brothers, Ruben Rodriguez, Eufracio Rodriguez Jr. and Paul Rodriguez, all from Odessa.

L.J. Marrs
ODESSA — L.J. Marrs went peacefully in the night on June 20, 2004, surrounded in his sleep by those he loved. He is sure to be in good company, preceded in death by parents, W.M. “Bill” and Margaret Marrs; brothers, Howard and Marvin Marrs; and sister, Nadine Marrs Jordan.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Margie McDougal Marrs of Odessa; and his daughters and sons-in-law, Lou Ann and Gary Wilkerson of Comanche and Loree and Mike Britt of Midland. His sister, Billie Marrs Green of Loyalton, Calif., mourns his passing, as do the grandchildren in whom L.J. placed so much pride. They are Sarah Grace Britt of Midland, Chris Ingram and Deborah Pavlik, both of Tomball, Josh Wilkerson, Jennifer Michael, Kaitlyn and Morgan, all of Comanche, and Ryan Britt of Dallas; step-granddaughter, Amanda Blissard and step-great-granddaughter, Myka Blissard, both of Big Spring. In addition to those listed, L.J. is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Born April 11, 1922, in Oil City, Texas, L.J. moved to Odessa in September 1926. Mr. Marrs loyally served both his country and those he loved during his 82 years of life. From North Africa to France, Corsica and Japan, L.J. fought with the U.S. Army in WWII.
As a dedicated family man, L.J. provided for his children by owning and operating Marrs Steam Service from 1960 until his retirement in 1985. L.J. Marrs was a congregation member and deacon at the First Christian Church of Odessa, Texas.
In later life, he remained active in his community, participating in the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, the Old Timer’s Club and the Cancer Support Group of the American Cancer Society, as well as being a lifelong member of the American Legion.
Donations may be made to his favorite cause, The American Cancer Society Gift Fund.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at First Christian Church with Dr. David Mindel officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Edwin Sidney Martin Jr.
ODESSA — Edwin Sidney Martin Jr. passed away peacefully at home Saturday morning, June 19, 2004. He was born November 1, 1912, on the Martin Ranch, south of Odessa in Ector County, the second child of Edwin Sidney Martin Sr. and Alice Roberta Cowles Martin. His sister, Roberta Etta Martin Hausmann, preceded him in death on May 27, 2004.
He attended Austin Elementary School until his family moved to Goliad in 1925, where he finished his high school education. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1936 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and began work in the West Texas oil fields as an engineer. During Christmas holidays of 1939, while visiting a friend in San Marcos, Texas, he met the love of his life, Henrietta Smith, and they were married
June 14, 1940. They had recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
Edwin served his country as a major in the Army Field Artillery in Europe during World War II. After the war, he worked as a Civil Engineer in several towns in West Texas, settling in 1948 in Odessa, where he and Henrietta raised their three daughters. In 1950, after having been employed as City Engineer in Odessa, he began Martin Engineering, a land surveying business, which he continued to operate until his retirement in 2001. He coached Little League baseball or sponsored a team from 1955 to 1983, coaching the first racially integrated team in Odessa. He touched the lives of many young men in Odessa and was a positive influence on them.
He was a faithful Rotarian, attending the Downtown Rotary Club, where he had a Perfect Attendance Record for 38 years. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church since 1950 and was the second person to serve as Senior Warden of the Vestry. He was the last surviving member of the original Odessa Jazz Board and was actively involved with the annual Odessa Jazz Party until failing health prevented his participation. He was a Charter Member of the Century Club of Texas A&M University and was a member of the 12th Man Foundation. He was an avid sports fan and traveled for many years to College Station to see A&M’s home football games, as well as to Canyon to see the West Texas State football games.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Henrietta S. Martin; his children, Dr. Roberta Palmour and Dr. Frank Erwin of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, H.K. Moeller and Susan Martin of Odessa and Clarence Redic of Austin; his grandchildren, Jeff and Angela Moeller of Austin, Chris Moeller and Kay Harris of Odessa, Shayne Martin and Scott Martin of Odessa and Nicole and Jules D’Isep of Montreal; and his great-grandchildren: Marissa Moeller of Virginia Beach, Va., Miranda Moeller of Austin and Gabriel and Damon Martin of Odessa. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Milton Hausmann of San Antonio.
The family will receive friends at Odessa Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with Rector Laura Deaderick officiating, to be followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his honor to St. John’s Episcopal Church or the Odessa Rotary Club.

Pallan Rodriguez
ODESSA — Andrew “Drew” Pallan Rodriguez, 19, of Odessa, earned his heavenly wings Friday, June 18, 2004. He is now walking the streets of Gold without a single worry.
He was born in Pecos, Texas, December 23, 1984, to Agapito Romero Rodriguez Jr. and Diana Pallan Rodriguez. He was a Christian working in the Construction Industry and an avid baseball player. Drew was a very athletic and loving young man, a brothers keeper who always took the time to look over his brothers and sister, not to mention his remarkable sense of humor, always making people laugh while acting goofy. Drew had recently been awarded a scholarship by the softball league, selected from one of so many softball players, and awarded the golden glove in a softball tournament. You made us very proud of you. We love you “Drew” and never will forget you.
He is preceded in death by great-grandmother, Eustolia Falcon and uncle, Greg Rayos Jr. He is survived by mother, Diana Pallan Rodriguez of Odessa and father, Agapito Romero Rodriguez Jr. and stepmother, Roshelle of Pecos; stepfather, Hector Anaya; grandparents, Agapito Rodriguez Sr. and wife, Elvira, of Pecos and Felipe Pallan and wife, Susana, of Odessa; brothers, Anthony Rodriguez of Odessa, Aaron Anaya of Odessa, Kalub Anaya of Odessa and John Michael Rodriguez of Pecos; sisters, Ayvah Gabaldon of Odessa, Analee Rodriguez and Kimberly Rodriguez, both of Pecos; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and lots of friends.
