Jason Conn
ODESSA — Jason Lee Conn, 21, of Odessa, was called home on Saturday, January 31, 2004.
He was born July 25, 1982, in Odessa. Jason was a Christian. He loved his family. His mother was his best friend. Jason touched everyone’s heart with his loving and giving nature. He always remembered his family and friends.
He loved all sports, especially the Texas Rangers. His gentle, loving spirit will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jerry Bruce, Charles Robertson and Virgil Conn.
He is survived by his mother, Dana Robertson; his dad, Brooks Robertson of Odessa; his father, Randy Conn of Coldwater, Miss.; a brother, Justin Conn also of Coldwater, Miss.; grandparents, Georgia and Chris Long of Abilene; Marjorie Bruce of Coldwater, Miss.; and Maxine Robertson of Midland; Barbara and Larry Digby of Odessa; Earl and Ginger Mackey of Santa Anna; Janet Shurbet of Jacksonville, Fla.; Frank and Agnes Campbell and John Campbell of Abilene; Michael and Tanya Conn of Odessa; Evelyn Shelby of Midland; Joe O’Neel of Coldwater, Miss.; uncle, Michael Conn of Odessa; and numerous family and friends.
Memorial services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel.

Gerald ‘Poppy’ Hart
ANDREWS — Gerald ‘Poppy’ Hart, 64, of Andrews passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews. Rev. Bernard Gully will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews West cemetery.
Mr. Hart was born Oct. 5, 1939, in McPherson, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army. He married
Judy Mueller Oct. 2, 1966, in Mexico. They moved to Andrews in 1978 from Odessa. He was a field foreman for J. Cleo Thompson for 31 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a very active supporter of Andrews Softball. His granddaughters were his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph W. Hart in 1984, and his sister, Carol Hart in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Hart of Andrews; son, Jerry and his wife, Melody Hart, of Andrews; his mother, Rose Hart of Andrews; two granddaughters, Judy and Faith Hart of Andrews; two sisters, Gaye Arthur of Andrews and Margie Wheeler of Houston.

Miguel Sanchez
ODESSA — Miguel Pizana Sanchez, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at the age of 80. He was born on Oct. 1, 1923, in Castolon, Texas, to Ricardo and Josefa Sanchez.
Miguel joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 6, 1944. He served on the USS Argonne in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre and received the WWII victory medal. He later became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and became active in the Funeral Honor Guard.
Mr. Sanchez retired after 23 years of service from Flint Engineering and construction company. After his retirement, he went back to work and spent ten years with Two Rivers Construction, where he worked until Dec. 15, 2003.
Miguel is preceded in death by his parents and his children, Beatrice, Mary, and Ruben.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geneva Sanchez; sons, Ricardo Sanchez, Armando Sanchez and wife, Mary, William ‘Bill’ Sanchez and wife, Carmen, and Rudolfo ‘Rudy’ Sanchez, all of Odessa; daughters, Yolanda ‘Yolie’ Ruiz and husband, Pablo, of Odessa, Lupe Hernandez and husband, George, of San Antonio, Graciela ‘Grace’ Villanueva and husband, Carlos, of Fort Worth, Cindy Olivarez and husband, Jaciento, of Odessa and Ruby Orona and husband, Jess, also of Odessa; sisters Leonarda ‘Lee’ Bustos and husband, Luis, and Liandra Luna, all of Odessa; 29 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be said 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at St Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Cruz, Carlos Villanueva, George Arthur Hernandez, Jr., Nathan Sanchez, Albert Cruz, and Danny Olivarez. Honorary pallbearers will be Adrian Ramsey Cruz, David Michael Hernandez and Rudolfo ‘B.J.’ Sanchez Jr.

Francisco Javier Sandoval
ODESSA — Francisco Javier Sandoval, 62, of Odessa, went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at the Hospice House.
He was born on Jan. 6, 1942, in Balleza, Chihuahua, Mexico, and lived his childhood there with is dad, Javier Sandoval and stepmother, Elisa Villalobos Sandoval. In the early 1960s, he first came to the U.S. to work as farm and ranch labor through the “Bacero Program.” Mr. Sandoval was employed in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas for three to six months at a time before returning to Mexico again.
Mr. Sandoval married
Emma Elfida Morales in July of 1966 in Lamar, Colo. He and his family came to Odessa in October of 1974 and have resided here since. He worked as a roustabout labor for several companies and spent 10 years working for the Midwest Equipment Company (Meco).
After more than a decade of attempting to gain legal residency in the U.S., his dream became a reality on April 12, 1976. The Sandoval’s home is made with beautiful landscaping-plants, trees, flowers and the greenest yard on the block. Mr. Sandoval had a special love for nature, land and animals instilled in him from his dad’s ranching background.
Mr. and Mrs. Sandoval moved to Pleasant Farms at 5358 W. Fig in September, 2000, in order to carry out his lifetime dream of owning a farm. He worked had to raise hogs, goats, chickens, two cats, two dogs. He also grew a huge vegetable garden each summer to share with family and friends. Mr. Sandoval’s gift of working with the land could easily be seen.
In February 2001, his wife suffered a tragic car accident leaving her disabled and blind in her right eye. At this time he took the role of man and woman of the house. He never lost his faith and shared his love and attention with his wife, children and grandchildren. Javier made friends easily with his new neighbors in Pleasant Farms. Long time friends would stop by for a cookout or just to buy a goat, hog or fresh vegetables. Holiday with his family were especially dear to him.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Emma Elfida Sandoval; and four children, Omar and wife, Viviana Sandoval, Vilma Cira and husband, Ruben Salcedo, Jaime Sandoval, Maria del Rosario Olivas and husband, Leonel, all of Odessa; grandchildren, Omar Darren, Bianca, Phillip, Dylan Sandoval, Ruben Noel and Luis Daniel Salcedo, Carlye and Javier David Huitron; sisters, Dionicia Sandoval of California, Amalia Villalobos, Sara Buianda and Irma Chavez of Chihuahua, Mexico; brothers, Manuel Sandoval of Las Palomas, Chihuahua, Jose Dolores Sandoval of Salinas, Kan., Samuel Sandoval and Jesus Alonso Sandoval of Chihuahua, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; mother, Cira Ortega in October 1947, and father, Javier Sandoval in May of 2002.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his son, sons-in-law, grandchild, Darren, and God Son, Enrique Diaz Jr.

Dorothy Marie Vaughn
MIDLAND — Dorothy Marie Vaughn, a longtime resident of Midland, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at her residence. She was called from this life to be with her heavenly Father.
She was born May 17, 1922 in Saginaw, Mich., the only child of Helen and George Parent, her adoptive parents. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Saginaw, in 1941.
In 1939, she met Bill Vaughn at a high school football game, and they married
August 14, 1943. Bill left for the war in Europe one week after they were married
, and was gone for almost three years. During the war, Dorothy worked for Garber’s Buick and took over many jobs, when the men had to leave for the service. After the war, when Bill returned, they moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., where Bill worked on his master’s degree. In 1948, a job with Texaco landed them in Pampa, Texas. From Pampa, they went to Amarillo and finally to Midland in 1952.
Dorothy was very involved with volunteer work in Midland. Time was spent with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Ann’s Altar Society and eight years at the Mabee Center at Manor Park. Dorothy was also President of the Ranchland Hills Country Club Ladies Golf Association in 1969, and received an honorary lifetime membership in 1996. She was also a long time member of the Permian Basin Geological and Geophysical Auxiliary. She was a member of a bridge and sewing club. She belonged to the Republican Women’s Club, and was the first female Republican election judge in Midland County.
Dorothy is survived by Bill, her beloved husband of 60 years of Midland; sons, William J. Vaughn III and wife, Joanne, of Rochester, N.Y., Jim Vaughn and wife, Michele, of Elkins, Ark., Kevin Vaughn and wife, Lisa, of Arlington; daughter, Pam Crutcher and husband, Drew, of Odessa. Eight grandchildren, Trey Crutcher and wife, Karen, of Dallas, Michael Crutcher of Austin, Cathy Crutcher of College Station, Sara Vaughn of Galveston, Spencer and Christopher Vaughn of Arlington, and Jamie and Nick Vaughn of Rochester, N.Y. Sister-in-law, Virginia Maxson of Bay City, Mich., niece Judy Gordon of Cleveland, Tenn., and nephew, David Charlesbois and wife, Brenda, of Bay City, Mich.
The family wishes to express their love and gratitude for the two years of kind and gentle service of Jan Otho and her Kind Keepers special ladies, Helen Brown, Martha Ramirez, Teresa Whitefield, Amanda Ramirez, Ramona Ball, and Frances Gonzales. The family sends a special thanks to Jeanette Frantz and all the personnel of Home Hospice for all the help with Mother’s last days.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and friend, who always had a bright smile and kind word for everyone. She lived her life as a dedicated Christian, and was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, but we know that she is now in God’s hands, and is with her favorite patron saint, St. Therese of Lisieux (The Little Flower), watching over all of us.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Ellis Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Rodney White officiating, followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Dorothy’s grandsons, Trey Crutcher, Michael Crutcher, Spencer Vaughn, and Christopher Vaughn, as well as Richard Rikli and Larry Edgerton.

John Frank Weaver
ODESSA — John Frank Weaver 72, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, with Rev. Chris Conner officiating. Burial will be in Pauls Valley, Okla., on Thursday.
He was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma March 11, 1931, to Ernest and Cora Dale Weaver. He was a retired salesman for Dresser Atlas and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord.
He is survived by his son, John Mark Weaver and wife, Shelly, of Odessa; three grandchildren, Holly Weaver, Joshua Weaver and John Weaver, all of Odessa; brother-in-law, Bill Taylor and wife, Cheryl, of Oklahoma City; nephew, Rob Taylor and wife, Lisa, and their three children, of Grapevine; nieces, Sheryl Barrett and her husband, Rocky, of Shawnee, Okla., and her children, Geoffrey and Jennifer Luttrell, and niece, Dana Cain of Oklahoma City; cousins, Doris Weaver of Dallas, Isabell Weaver of Lake Jackson and Mike Weaver of Frankford, Mo.

Mable Schneider
ODESSA — Mable Schneider, 72, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 18, 1931, in Littlefield, Texas, to William and Ethel Heberling Haskell. She moved to Odessa in the 1950s from Kermit. She married
Gene Schneider on Feb. 24, 1962, in Odessa.
Mrs. Schneider was past matron of the Eastern Star Chapter 447, past president of the Odessa Study Club, past president of the Odessa Contemporary Garden Club, past president of Laureate Alpha Phi of Beta Sigma Phi, past president of the Christian Women’s Club, past president ot the Social Order of Beauceant, district instructor for the Reach To Recovery Program of the American Cancer Society and past mother advisor of the Rainbow for Girls Odessa Assembly #114.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Schneider of Odessa; son, Larry Schneider of Ruidoso, N.M.; daughter, Jerry Schneider of Odessa; sisters, Barbara Nichols of Odessa and Betty Conley and Jean Covington, both of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the Antioch Christian Church with the Rev. Don Fankhauser and Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
