Frances Forester Reeves
ODESSA — Frances Forester Reeves, 89, of Odessa, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Hospice House. She was born August 29, 1914, in Bowie, Texas, to Arthur and Ora Forester. The family moved to Newport, Texas, in 1915.
Frances joined the Methodist Church at the age of 12 and was active in Sunday school all her life.
She married
Vernon “Red” Reeves March 11, 1939, in Decatur, Texas. She was a homemaker and an avid golfer and traveler until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, V. R. Reeves; her parents, Arthur and Ora Forester; sister, Opal Fisher; and niece, Angela McKorkle.
She is survived by one sister, Maurine Hickman of Bowie; nephews, Joe Burchell of Gardendale, Don Hickman of Pampa; and niece, Joyce Hickman of Bowie.
She will be missed by many.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Newport cemetery in Newport, Texas, with the Rev. Lewis Sleeth officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to the Hospice House Foundation Inc. 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761.

Thelma Louise Thomas
ODESSA — Thelma Louise Thomas, 75, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Hospice House. She was born September 11, 1928, in Vernon, Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1947. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Carl Thomas; her parents, William and Frances South; brother, William South Jr.; and sisters, Doris Segal and Mildred Motley.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Lindsay of Odessa; two grandchildren, Jarrett Lindsay and Carl Wayne Lindsay and his fiancé, Leslie Strange; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Louise Villemain Wier
ODESSA — Louise Wier passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Odessa with the Rev. Bill Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Louise Villemain Wier was born February 5, 1910, in Pipe Creek, Texas.
Louise graduated from Bandera High School and received a scholarship to what is now The University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. She went out to teach in one-teacher schools. If there was no church in the community, she got permission to use the schoolhouse for Sunday afternoon Bible study and worship services. Older boys and girls and teenagers, as well as some adults, were led to faith in Christ as Savior.
Later she taught in larger schools and spent the summers working in churches in Texas a week at a time. Hearing of her work Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary granted her a full scholarship with two free lessons a week in piano and voice. After two years, she graduated with a Masters Degree in Religious Education. With further education, she had thirty hours towards a Doctorate of Education.
Following seminary she worked six years as a State Worker in Texas in Sunday school and Training Union. She also served as a Minister of Education in Park Avenue, now Second Baptist Church in Corpus Christi.
Louise moved to Odessa in 1946 when she married
Raymond D. Wier. They soon began working in Missions. The first was what is now Primera Baptist Church. Later they helped start a mission in Ranchito addition. When Ranchito Mission grew into Jerusalem Baptist Church, Louise was one of the speakers at the organization.
From 1983 to 1996, she traveled in 41 countries on all five major continents, plus Australia and New Zealand. She has worked in churches in India, Korea, Nassau in the Bahamas, Lima Peru and Brazil. Soul winning was her main objective and many people were won to Jesus.
She was an active member of Law Wives and Downtown Lioness Club. She continued to be active in Odessa Christian Women, AARP and Ector County Retired Teachers Association.
Soon after she retired in 1975, she served two years as president of the local Retired Teachers, three years as District President, one year on the nominating committee of the State Retired Teachers, two years as chairman of Retirement Committee of State and then received an appointment from National Retired Teachers to be Assistant State Director for West Texas.
For many years she led Bible Study and Service in Avalon Place Nursing Home. For 68 years she taught in Sunday School. For years she worked in Training Union. She cared about people and loved all people of all races no matter what their station in life.
She will be missed by many who knew her and loved her.
She is survived by two sons, David Wier of Abilene and Terry Wier of Dallas; and four grandchildren.
Lorena Bell
ODESSA — Lorena Bell, 83, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Regency Hospital. She was born October 3, 1920, in Duncan, Okla., to Dewitt Thalmage Williams and Dona Caywood Williams. She was a homemaker and a member of Eisenhower Church of Christ. She married
Johnie Bell in 1937 in Duncan, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnie Bell; parents; daughter, Jo Ann Lyons Fuqua; six brothers; two sisters; one grandson; two sons-in-law.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Jones Hubbard and husband, Pat; son, Dwane “Sonny” Bell and wife, Carole, all of Odessa; sisters, Dorothy Perry of Oak Point, Texas, and Luvada Cryer of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by her family and numerous friends. She spent her entire life serving others.
There will be a visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Eisenhower Church of Christ with Burt Groves officiating. Burial will be at 6 p.m. Saturday in Garden of Memories cemetery between DeLeon and Comanche, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eisenhower Church of Christ.

Julie Dawn Goodman
CRANE — Julie Dawn Goodman, 32, of Odessa passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, in the Midland Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, in the Crane County cemetery with Ric Allen and Jim Schaffer officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Julie was born on February 1, 1972, in Amarillo, Texas, to Clifford and Paula Goodman. She was a 1990 graduate of Crane High School and a graduate of Texas Tech University with a bachelor of arts degree in interior design. She was a relief supervisor in collections for Cingular Wireless.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Paula Lou Goodman, on December 30, 1999.
She is survived by her father, Clifford Goodman of Crane; her brother, Joel Goodman and his wife, Kristie, of Fort Worth; and the loves of her life, her nephew and nieces, Collin Goodman, Audrey Goodman, and Emma Goodman, all of Fort Worth.
Olga Susan McBurnett
ELDORADO — Olga Susan Chapple McBurnett, 87, passed from this life on Thursday, April 29, 2004, in the Schleicher County Nursing Home. She was born in Christoval, Texas, on October 31, 1916, to Frank Elmore Chapple and Dlula Shepherd Chapple. She was better known to many as “Sue.”
She graduated from high school in Christoval and attended Abilene Christian College. Sue graduated from Shannon School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She married
Melvin Davis “Pete” McBurnett on April 11, 1942. While living in Odessa, she worked at the Odessa Medical Center Hospital and was a substitute teacher for the Ector County I.S.D.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Suzanne and husband, Sid Johnson, of Eldorado; one granddaughter, Laura and husband, Brian Leddy, of Mansfield, Texas; grandson, Jeff Johnson of Eldorado; and a great-granddaughter, Sydney D. Leddy of Mansfield. She is also survived by Pauline Nelson of Abilene, Frank E. Chapple of Slaton and Sarah and husband, William Jarrett, of Hobbs, N.M.; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Pete; her parents; brother, H.A. Chapple; and sister, Martha Wingfield.
Sue will be remembered by many for her care as their nurse. She is fondly referred to as “Sue Sue” by the numerous caregivers in the nursing home in Eldorado.
The family would like to thank each and every one of them for the special care they gave her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you give to your favorite charity.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at the Mertzon Highway Church of Christ in Eldorado, Texas, with Paul Shero officiating. Burial will follow at the Christoval cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Opal Smith
KERMIT — Opal Smith died at Kermit Healthcare in Kermit on Wednesday, April 28, 2004. Born Opal Ophelia Kiser on November 4, 1913, in Fannin County, Texas, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of William Ellis Kiser and Nancy Myrtle Tollison Kiser, and she was the granddaughter of W.E. and Sarah C. Kiser and Horace Greenberry Tollison and Alice Lenora Richardson Tollison.
Mrs. Smith, who spent her early life on a farm, was educated in Fannin and Hunt counties. She came to Winkler County as the young bride of Walter Everette Ford, now deceased. In 1960, she married
Claude Brown Smith of Wink.
As a young girl, Opal Smith was received into the Baptist Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit, a church family she loved and admired.
A retired nurse, Mrs. Smith worked for many years at the Winkler County Memorial Hospital, the Jal, N.M., hospital and for Dr. Peddicord in Kermit.
One of Mrs. Smith’s greatest loves was for nursing. She especially enjoyed working with newborn babies and their mothers. She retired as a nurse in the mid-1970s, but she never lost her zeal for caring for those who needed her.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, C.B. Smith of Kermit; and by two daughters and one son-in-law, Jim and LaRue Moore of Odessa and Lois Coleman of Liberty Hill. She was preceded in death by four children, William Everette Ford, Robert Everette Ford, Dawna Fay Ford and Christine Ford Benton.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two granddaughters and their husbands, Mrs. Emily Hurt of Odessa and Quinn Henderson and her husband, Jim, of Liberty Hill; as well as by three grandsons and their wives, Don and Leesa Benton of Amarillo, Dee and Susan Benton of Midland and Devin and Coral Benton of Amarillo. She is survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Mrs. Smith will be conducted by the Rev. Gene Cannon at the Belvue Baptist Church, Kermit, at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004.
