Billie Jean ‘BJ’ Gibson
ODESSA — Billie Jean “BJ” Rowe Gibson, age 76, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2004. BJ was born Oct. 30, 1927, to Andy and Theresa Anderson in Big Spring. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1945 and married
Tabor Rowe on July 5, 1947, in Big Spring. Tabor passed away June 10, 1991. BJ married
Joseph V. Gibson Jr., MD on April 26, 1994. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1999.
BJ was a member of Highland Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Progressive Study Club. She served as the Medical Records Librarian for the Kermit Hospital and later worked as a receptionist for Charles A. Stephens, MD, in Odessa.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Rowe and his wife Janet of Amarillo and Andy Rowe and his wife Sandy of Odessa; grandchildren, Keri Jiou and her husband Charles and Trey Rowe and his wife Elisha, all of Lubbock, Lisa Rowe of Cleburne and Alan Rowe of Odessa; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Bryan and Jadyn Rowe and Nicholas and Rebekah Jiou, all of Lubbock; sister, Janice Minter and her husband John of Richardson.
The family will receive visitors today 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. The family will gather at 4112 Hazelwood.
Meghann Elizabeth Ross
WICKETT — Services for Meghann Elizabeth Ross, 17, of Wickett, have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Wickett. The Rev. Dennis Phariss will officiate. Burial will follow in Monahans Memorial cemetery. Meghann died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Meghann was born July 9, 1986, in Monahans. Her parents are Troy and Donell Milson Ross of Wickett. She was a senior at Monahans High School.
Survivors include her parents, Troy and Donell Ross of Wickett. A sister, Malea Ross of Wickett. Her grandparents, C.W. “Jr.” and Kathryn Ross of Wickett, and Chester Milson of Monahans. She is also survived by family members, Tim, Darla and Erik Moore, Britt and Delaine Parker, Bill and Deneisa McNeese and family, Dorinda Johnson and family, and Delbert and Teresa Driver and family. Meghann was preceded in death by her grandmother, Jo Fern Milson, in 1997.
Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.
Paul Benjamin Scholl
ODESSA — Paul Benjamin Scholl, 74, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, left this world to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Sunday morning, Jan. 11, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mr. Scholl was the youngest son of Phillip Henry Scholl and Anna Meinzer Scholl of Falls City, Neb. He was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Richardson County, Neb., and grew up in Rulo, Neb., and eventually started his own family in Odessa after meeting the love of his life, wife, Edna Carrie Wells, of Wade, Okla. Mr. Scholl was a loving family man who loved his family, his God and his Dallas Cowboys. His spare time was always spent at home with his family, who will miss him so dearly. He was retired from BTA Oil Producers after many years of service, and continued to consult for them until May 1998. He also served in the U.S. Army. Many that know him will tell you he was a hard worker, honest and compassionate.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elmer Henry Scholl; sisters, Dorothy Scholl Roberson of Anchorage, Alaska; Ester Scholl MacCandless of Oceanside, Calif.; Marie Scholl Varnado, of Rome, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carrie; daughter, Kandy Scholl Fields; two grandchildren, John Paul Martin and his wife Amanda Stice Martin, and Jessica Fields of Odessa; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Martin and Austin Martin of Odessa; sisters, Lucille Scholl Thompson and Arlene Scholl Miller of Rulo; and many nieces and nephews. All of us will miss our angel. He showed us so much.
There will be a visitation for family and friends 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Chapman officiating. Grave-side services will follow shortly after at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
There will always be a void in our lives for the man we loved so much, but we have comfort in knowing we will see him again; he will be with us in our hearts and prayers.

Kimberly Dawn Turner
ODESSA — Kimberly Dawn Turner, age 16, of Odessa passed away on January 10, 2004 at Medical Center Hospital as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Kimberly was born September 29, 1987 in Midland, Texas, to Carol and Donnie Turner.
Kimberly was a sophomore at Permian High School and a member of the Permian Band as a bassoonist and on the drumline. Previously she attended Nimitz Junior High where she was a drum major for the Nimitz Band. Kimberly also attended LBJ Elementary and Blackshear Elementary.
Kimberly had just returned from the Rose Bowl Parade with the PHS/OHS Combined Marching Bands. She said, “It was the trip of a lifetime!” As a child, she enjoyed soccer, swimming, and especially dance. However, band was the love of her life. She was preparing to perform with the Nimitz band in their State Championship concert at the TMEA convention in San Antonio in February. Kimberly was also planning to try out for the Panther Paws. Kimberly was a member of the National Junior Honor Society, All City Band, and the youth group at Immanuel Baptist. She was a member of the PHS Drumline when they won First Place at the West Texas Auxiliary Championship. Kimberly had numerous First Division ratings at Solo and Ensemble contests and served as a mentor and tutor to many of the younger bassoonists.
Kimberly is survived by her mother Carol White Johnson and step-father Mark Johnson of Odessa; father Donnie Turner of Clovis, N.M.; grandparents Lois White of Odessa and the late Joe White, Jr. formerly of Odessa, Sid and Loretta Turner of Clovis, N.M. and Bill and Eddie Johnson of Odessa; half-brother Jeremy Turner of Clovis, N.M., half-sister Jennifer Turner Wheeler and husband Benjamin and son Zachary of Clovis, N.M.; step-sister Stevie Johnson of Odessa; step-brother Cole Johnson of Odessa; uncle Robert White, wife Janicé and children Matt, Brandon and Katie of Coppell, TX; aunt Vicki Johnson and son Landon of Midland and godparents Michelle and Wesley Barnt of Lubbock, TX.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 4 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 13, 2004 and Wednesday, January 14, 2004 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the community and Medical Center Hospital staff for the outpouring of love, support and prayers during this time.
Kimberly wanted to be a doctor when she “grew up.” In accordance with her wish to help others, Kimberly will live on in the many people she helped by being an organ donor.
Lucille Ray
ODESSA — Lucille Ray, 86, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Saskatchewan, Canada. She married
E. K. “Boots” Ray on May 24, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Lucille touched many lives during her life. She trained many young men and women to check groceries at Furr’s Supermarket where she was a checker specialist and manager for 21 years.
She was a very loving, caring and generous lady who always had a smile for everyone. The meals and homemade goodies she prepared were loved by her family and friends alike.
She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Senior Citizen Dance Club. She was also a member of Second Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Eldred Ray of Odessa; daughter, Gloria Harrison and husband Chuck of Azle, Texas; brothers, Robert Thomas and wife Ginny of Pueblo, Colo., and Billy Lee Thomas and wife Virginia of Odessa; sisters, Doris Lands of San Angelo and Nina Hazen of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Katie Harrison and fiance John Bobbett and K. C. Harrison and wife Hollie, all of Fort Worth; and great-grandson, Devin, age 3, of Fort Worth. She is also survived by her very special niece and nephew, Marsha Williams of Odessa and Ronny and Diane Ray of Midland; and many more loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Duckett officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Sam Arthur Reed
ODESSA — Sam Arthur Reed, 50, a disabled truck driver for McMillan Lumber Company, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mr. Reed was a resident of Odessa, Texas
He is survived by his wife, Penny Reed of Odessa; sons, Jessie Roydale Reed of Brownfield and Sam Arthur Reed Jr. and Patrick Douglas Fox, both of Odessa; daughters, Delorse Yvonne Fox of Brownfield and Samantha Joyce Washington of Odessa; brothers, Floyd Douglas Reed of Lubbock and John Henry Reed Jr., Larry Don Reed, Alfred Charles Reed, Michael Lynn Reed and Bryce Wayne Reed, all of Brownfield; sisters, Betty Merle Toliver of Pampa and Rosemary Crump, Linda Darlene Noland and Kathy Nell Finninen, all of Brownfield; and 19 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Reed; and his mother, Sammie Lee Tucker-Reed.
He was born March 7, 1954, in Waco, Texas, the son of John and Sammie Tucker-Reed.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Martinez Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Greater St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. E.J. Miller Jr., pastor, and the Rev. L. Jones, eulogist. Burial will be at the Ector County cemetery in Odessa.

Billy John ‘BJ’ Sims
ODESSA — Billy John “BJ” Sims, loving husband, father and PaPa, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa at the age of 81.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Brownfield, Texas, to Lewis and Ruby Dobson Sims.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a dedicated lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving as grand worthy president, state aerie president, and local aerie president. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Sims of Odessa; children, Mary Pat Sims of Baton Rouge, La., Larry L. Price Sr. and wife Judy, John L. Price and wife JoAnn and Janice A. Price and husband Neal; daughter-in-law, Shirley Price; sister, Ruth Cook of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; seven sisters; one daughter, Marsha Lynn Sims; one son, Joe G. Price; and one great-granddaughter, Casey Price.

Ray ‘Slick Bean
Ray "Slick" Bean, 66, of Monahans, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Pavilion at the Monahans Memorial cemetery. The Rev. Owen Sharp officiating.
Ray Bean was born January 28, 1938 in Sweetwater, Texas. He married
Linda Osteen on June 5, 1964 in Monahans, Texas. He was a diesel mechanic for Permian Corporation, retiring after 28 years. He is a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Bean of Monahans; daughters, Karen Martinez and husband Ramon, of Monahans and Rachel Blain and husband, Glenn, of Midland; brother, B.A. Bean of Monahans; sisters, Betty Pittman of Abilene and Nora Tinsley of Buffalo Gap. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Summer Martinez, Lee Martinez, Matthew Blain and Richard Blain.

Geraldine Mitchell Wright
ODESSA — Geraldine Mitchell Wright, 58, of Hamilton, passed away June 9, 2004, at her residence in Hamilton, TX. She was born December 20, 1945, to Grady and Bertha Mitchell in Alabama. She was the youngest daughter of five children. She moved to Odessa in 1950 and was married
in 1960 to Johnny L. Wright. Soon after they were married
, they moved to Oklahoma City for a short time then moved back to Odessa in 1974. She started to work for Dr. Corral. She worked for him for five years, then she went to Odessa Collage and got a degree in Drilling Technology and was the first female to work on a pulling unit or drilling rig. At the same time she was raising her four children and helped raise 12 other children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years; her parents; and two brothers. She is survived by two sons, Deyane Wright and wife, Joanne, of Odessa and Jeff Wright and wife, Jonna, of New Mexico; daughters, Kathy Wright of Hamilton and Mary Smith and husband, Greg, of Odessa; six grandchildren, Josh White, Jessica White, Rebecca Wright, Jennifer Armstrong, Leah and Zack Armstrong; three great-grandchildren, Emilie, Dyllon “Shorty” and Olivia; sisters, Janette Rodriguez of Odessa and Betty Mitchell of New Mexico; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Minister William Fikes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
