They loved to travel both in the United States and Europe and since 1953, were active in all aspects of the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ, where Carlos served as Elder and Thelma taught Bible classes for children. She took great pride in her home, enjoyed cooking (especially coconut cream pies), loved her many friends and Odessa.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Thelma was a dedicated educator and hundreds of children benefited from her passion to teach. She came to Burnet Elementary in 1954, the year the school was opened. She taught all primary grades except kindergarten. After her retirement, she was active in the Retired Teacher’s Association, where she maintained her many friendships and kept current in the profession.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Brown and husband Bill and granddaughter Stephanie of Roswell, Ga.; and a son, David Leggett and wife Paula of De Soto, Texas, with his stepdaughters Deanna Branscum of Waxahatchie and Monika Neal and one great-granddaughter Brianna Branscum.
