Joey De Juan Ellis
ODESSA - Joey De Juan Ellis went to be with the Lord, November 12, 2004. Joey was born April 6, 1973, in Littlefield, Texas, to Mary K. Ellis and the late Ben Joe Ellis Jr. Joey attended Travis Elementary School in Odessa. He graduated from John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas, in 1991. He attended The University of Austin at Austin, Texas, on a football scholarship in 1991, where he majored in Sports Management. As a four-year starter, Ellis was considered one of the premier cornerbacks in the SWC and one of the nation’s top man-to-man cover men who was worthy of All-American consideration. In addition, Ellis earned first team All-Southwest Conference recognition from the Associated Press, Austin American Statesmen and Houston Chronicle… was tabbed second team all-SWC by the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star Telegram, and the D. Harold Byrd Leadership award by the coaching staff. Because of a successful four year campaign at The University of Texas, Ellis was selected among thousands of college football players across the country to play in the 1995 Hooters’ Hula Bowl All Star Football Classic. Ellis played in the West Team coached by Lee Corso (ESPN corespondent). In addition, Ellis was signed to play in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Due to injuries in 1996, Ellis signed a professional contract to play in the NFL’s World Football League with the Amsterdam Admirals. He then married
Anquanette (Shun) Sparks in June of 1999.
Joey Ellis was the vision and driving force behind Just-4 Kids Sports & Fitness. Joey had a true compassion for working with youth and nurturing their physical and psychological development. Joey’s philosophy was that supportive guidance, proper diet, and physical fitness contributes to the mental and emotional wellness of children.
He leaves to mourn his faithful, precious wife, Anquanette (Shun) Stakes Ellis; his mother, Mary Ellis Henson and her, husband, Theodore R. Henson; his brothers, Mark Ellis of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jaharri Ellis of Odessa, Texas; one sister, Valerie Ellis of Philadelphia, PA; one grandmother, Lillie Mae Ellis of Florida, grandfather, Joseph Johnson Sr. (papa) of Littlefield, Texas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Services will be held at Greater St. John Baptist Church, 212 S. Muskingum, with the Rev. E.J. Miller officiating at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004.
Randall ‘Randy’ W. Dulaney
Mattoon, Ill. Randall W. “Randy” Dulaney, age 48, of Mattoon, formerly of Odessa, passed away at 7:56 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2004, in Mattoon.
The funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Jeffrey Hough officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Dodge Grove cemetery.
Randy was born Oct. 1, 1956, in Flora, Ill., the son of Victor Dwight and Wanda Jeanne (Lee) Dulaney.
His father and step-mother, Mavis Dulaney, of Mattoon survive. He is also survived by a daughter, Alyson Dulaney of Odessa; two brothers, Steven Dulaney and his wife Frances of Murphysboro, Ill., and Thomas Dulaney of Neoga, Ill. His nieces and nephews include Sarah Webb, Matt Dulaney, Marian Douglas, Jimmy Dulaney, Tommy Dulaney, Amanda Bisby, and Kassie Dulaney. He leaves a great-nephew, Lane “Tank” Bisby; and two great-nieces, Caitlyn and Cameron Dulaney. He also leaves a close friend, Gina Brummett.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and a brother, Paul.
Randy attended the Broadway Christian Church. He was a member of the Mattoon Eagles Club. He enjoyed playing golf and passing time with friends and family. He was a great friend and a loving father who treasured time shared with his daughter.

Fayette Francis Griffin
ODESSA - Fayette Francis Griffin, 82, died Saturday, November 13, 2004, in the Regency Hospital, Medical Center Hospital, Odessa, Texas.
The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated by The Rev. David Mossbarger at St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church, 4141 Tanglewood, Saturday, November 20, at 2 p.m.
Fayette was born January 12, 1922, in Rome, New York. His parents were Andrew and Lila Cary Griffin. He had one sister and one brother. He was raised in Rome, New York, and educated at the Rome Free Academy. He received a B.B.A degree from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, in 1949. He attended Texas Tech University in 1966-67, and later enjoyed a part time teaching position at Odessa College.
In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre on Okinawa Island and was part of the occupying force at Nagasaki. He received special training at Mount Holyoke College and was posted at Southwestern University with the Marine-Navy V-12 unit.
While stationed in Georgetown, he met his future wife, Delia Elizabeth Cocke, and they were married
on August 4, 1944. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary of marriage. They had two sons, Mark and Christopher, and two daughters, Lynne and Terry. Christopher died in infancy.
Fayette and Delia moved from Georgetown to West Texas in 1949, first living in the Gulf Oil Sandhills Community of Crane County, and then moving to Odessa in 1951.
Fayette earned Certified Professional Accountant credentials and was the founding partner of Griffin & Howell. P.C. He was active in the Marine Corps League, West Texas Jazz Society, Midland Odessa Symphony and Chorale, and Brotherhood of St. Andrew. He was a member of St. John’s and St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Churches, serving as Senior Warden in 1971 and 1978, and a Trustee from 1980 to 1991. He was also a Trustee for the J.C. Ferguson Foundation.
Fayette was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Lila Cary Griffin; brother, Terry Griffin; and son, Christopher Griffin.
Survivors include his wife, Delia; his son, Mark Griffin and his wife, Stacy, and their children, Morgan, Adam and Rachel of Cypress, Texas; his daughter, Lynne Whitt and her children, Jason and Jessica of Bridgehampton, New York; his daughter Terry Griffin, and her husband, Peter Deming, and their children, Esther and Hadley of New York City; his sister, Nora Stephen of Rome, New York; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Helen Goethe of Georgetown, Texas; many nephews and nieces; and a multitude of friends
He and his wife enjoyed many activities including reading, traveling, theatre and dining with friends. However, those who knew him best know that his most passionate interests were baseball and jazz. His sense of humor will be missed by all those who knew him.

Charlotte Rose Lewis
ODESSA - Charlotte Rose Lewis, 74, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born October 23, 1930 in Lawrence County, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, William Ray Lewis, infant daughter Karen Lee Lewis, brother, Chester Smith.
She is survived by her husband, William Lewis of Odessa; son, David A. Lewis of Indiana, daughter, Dr. Brenda Cleary of Cary, N.C.; brothers, Warren Smith of Bedford, IN., Lowell Smith of Bloomington, IN.; sister, Janice Kay Blackwell of Bedford, IN.; 4 grandchildren, Dr. Grant Mostak of Syracuse, New York, Todd Mostak of Raleigh N.C. Rhett Lewis of Bedford, IN. and Talia Lewis of Bedford, IN.; and 3 great-grandchildren,.Drew Gilbertson of Wisconsin, Jade Lewis and Samara Lewis of Bedford, IN.
Memorials may be made on her behalf to Parks Methodist Retirement Village for the Employee Christmas Fund or The Alzheimers Association.

Espididona ‘Yona’ Abeyta
ODESSA — Espididona “Yona” Abeyta, 91, passed to Heaven on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, in Odessa.
Yona was a homemaker and loved by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Abeyta Sr.; son, Idel Abeyta; and grandson, Michael Abeyta.
She is survived by sons, Alex Abeyta and wife Erma of El Paso and Juan Abeyta and wife Ann of Charleston, S.C.; daughters, Dolores Puga and husband Joe and Ofelia Armendarez and husband Phillip, all of Odessa; sister-in-law, Polly Abeyta of Odessa; niece, Mary Banegas and son Matt of Tempe, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and the family will receive family and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Charlotte Lee Bridges
ODESSA — Charlotte was born Sept. 14, 1946, in San Angelo, Texas, to Charles and Wanda Rudd. She died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at the Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
She was raised in Odessa, and started her nursing career as an O.R. Technician at Medical Center Hospital. She was a member of Terrace Hills Baptist Church.
On Nov. 26, 1979, she married
Larry Bridges. They moved to McKinney, Texas, where she continued her nursing career as an O.R. Technician until she received her RN in 1986 from Grayson County Community College in Sherman, Texas. She worked in McKinney until they moved back to Odessa in 1992, where she again worked for Medical Center Hospital.
Eventually, Charlotte began working for Hospice of the Southwest as a field RN, and she finished her career with Home Hospice. During that career she earned her certification as a Hospice nurse. She is remembered by her fellow employees and the families of her patients as a no-nonsense nurse who went out of her way to provide comfort, care and love.
In 2002, Charlotte was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor and after surgery and therapy, she was unable to recover. Along with other family members and friends, her husband cared for her diligently until her death. Their love for each other grew stronger during the last 2 1/2 years.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Rudd.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Bridges of Odessa; sons, Larry Roberts Jr. and wife Paula of Odessa; Chuck Roberts and wife Rhonda of Odessa; Larry Allen Bridges and wife Carolyn of Anna, Texas; and Kevin Pike and wife Kathy of Ellworth, S.C.; daughters, Sherri Keel of Princeton, Texas, Kathy Richardson and husband Clarence of Van Alstyne, Texas, and Gina Bielski and husband Andy of Bella Fontaine, Ohio; father, Charles Rudd Sr. of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Frank Rudd of San Angelo, Texas, and Charles Rudd Jr. of College Station, Texas; sisters, Debbie Mann of San Angelo, Texas, and Sandra Jones of Lorraine, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and her beloved pet, Angel.

Jacquelyn Michelle Bryant
ODESSA — Jacquelyn Michelle Bryant, 42 of Odessa, Texas passed away on October 8, 2004 at home. She was born January 13, 1962 to Woodrow and Marion Bryant in Gainesville, Texas. She graduated from S.H. Rider High School in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1980. She received her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Midwestern State University of Wichita Falls in 1984. She completed her teachers certification in 1997 at the University of Texas at the Permian Basin.
Jacquelyn was a dedicated teacher at Hood Junior High in Odessa, Texas. She loved collecting Mickey Mouse memorabilia, traveling and playing with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her parents Woodrow and Marion Bryant of Denver City, grandmother Janelle Pogue of Gainesville, brothers Stephen Bryant and wife Thresser of Odessa Woody Bryant and wife Bresha of Austin,, sisters Patrea Bryant of Odessa, Lydia Bryant Williams of Carlsbad, NM, nieces and nephews Johnny Taylor, Cameron Bryant, Woody Bryant II, Milann Bryant and McKenna Bryant and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins

Claire Andrews Casey
ODESSA — Claire Andrews Casey passed away Friday October 8, 2004 with her family at her side peacefully at home.
Services for Claire A. Casey a retired RN and homemaker of Odessa are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bushart and Rev. Terry Wright officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens
Mrs. Casey was born in North Adams, Massachusetts August 10, 1928. She married
Richard Casey March 24, 1946 in Long Beach, California. Mrs. Casey had lived in Odessa for 41 years.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband of 58 years in their motor home. Her greatest joys were spending time with all her grandchildren and going to MOJO football games.
She was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church and Floyd Easterling Order of the Eastern Star. Claire attended Tarlleton State and Odessa College.
Survivors include her husband Richard Casey of Odessa, three daughters Sharon Riley of Odessa, Carol Weatherford of Odessa, Kathy Nelson of Lewisville, Texas and one son Bob Casey of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, a brother James Andrews of Las Vegas, Nevada, 7 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren.
