Maria Gutierrez
ODESSA — Maria Gutierrez passed away September 26, 2004. Maria was born April 8, 1925, and on January 1, 1949, she married
Jesus N. Gutierrez. They moved to Odessa from Pecos in 1957 and had resided here since.
Maria is preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Eusebia Chavez from Pecos; sons, Manuel Chavez and Julian Chavez, both from Odessa and Ector Gutierrez from Roswell, New Mexico; daughter, Olivia Gutierrez from Odessa; brothers, Trinidad Gomez, Alberto Gomez and Roberto Gomez; and sister, Severa Gutierrez.
Maria was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and taking care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed seeing her family at all functions, especially Christmas time. She will be greatly missed. Christmas will never be the same.
She is survived by her husband, Jesus N. Gutierrez; daughters, Connie C. Cheek from Garland and Rosie G. Gutierrez; sons, Raymond Chavez, Jesse Gutierrez Jr., Rudy Gutierrez and Sammy Gutierrez; sister, Manuela Garcia from Barstow; brothers, Julian Gomez, Chon Gomez from Barstow, Felix “Chele” Gomez from Casa Grande, Arizona and Augustine Chavez from Phoenix, Arizona; 28 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Rosary times for Maria will be Sept. 29, 2004, and Sept. 30, 2004, both at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at 2 p.m. with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Raymond Chavez Jr., Jesse Gutierrez III, Jeremy Dominguez, Sammy Gutierrez Jr., Brian Cheek, Ray Del Bosque, Paul Chavez, Ryan Del Bosque, Steve Chavez, Michael Sanchez, Julian Chavez, David Gonzales, Johnny Ray Gutierrez and Mario Chavez.
Linda Kay Johnson
ODESSA — Linda Kay Johnson, 53, of Odessa, died Sunday, September 26, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born March 10, 1951, in Fort Stockton to Fred and Inez Nevans Lane.
A family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2004, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Terry Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Johnson was an insurance agent and service representative. She attended Odessa High School. She served seven years in the United States Army, including two tours in Germany, and she was a Baptist and was baptized in 1965. She was raised in Ft. Stockton and Odessa. In previous years, she owned two businesses in Fort Stockton. She was a Girl Scout and Girl Scout Leader for several years. She was an adventuress and a cowgirl who enjoyed horseback riding, canoeing, camping, and motorcycling. She also enjoyed her extensive Southwest art and Betty Boop collections. However, the loves of her life were her two sons and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Tina Rains, and her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Rains Jr. of Odessa and Tre’ Parker and his wife, Miriam Brickey, of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Freddie Lane and his wife, Jeannie, of Odessa; sisters, Dorothy Smith and husband, Albert, of Odessa and Jennie Sue Jones and husband, Joe, of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Larry Rains and Summer Rains of Odessa; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Robert Lauderdale
ODESSA — Robert Edwin Lauderdale was born February 26, 1942, and departed this earthly life on September 26, 2004, at the age of 62 years at Hospice House in Odessa. He was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to George and Elizabeth Lauderdale.
In 1964, Robert married
Martha Adkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law; and his wife of 40 years. He is survived by son, Robert Lauderdale Jr. and wife, Allison, of Kathy, Texas; daughter, Rebecca Roberts and husband, Geneo, from Odessa, Texas; father-in-law, Howard Adkins of Cisco, TX.; brother-in-law, Tom Adkins of San Diego, California; and grandchildren, Ryan Lauderdale, Joshua Roberts and Hannah Roberts. Also, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jewel America Miller
ODESSA — Jewel America Miller was born January 22, 1912, in Central, Texas to Luther and Mary Williams. Mrs. Miller married
W.J. Miller in 1929.
She resided at 1212 Century in Odessa until her death on September 27, 2004. She is survived by her sons, Billy D. Miller and wife, Bennie, of Gardendale and W.E. Miller of Midland. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by his sister, Leila Clay of Coahoma; sisters-in-law, Lois Mendoza and husband, Tony, Marguerite McKinley, Connie Tucker and Ruth Williams.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jewel’s name to the church or charity of your choice. She was Baptist. She is rejoined with Jack in Heaven. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2000.

Norma Núñez
ODESSA — Norma Núñez, 43, of Odessa, passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at her residence.
She was born July 29, 1961, in Odessa to Lupe Doporto Núñez and the late Enrique Núñez. She was a loving mother to her Pride and Joy, son Joseph Réne Núñez “Mi Son.” She was a graduate of Ector High School “Class of 1979.” Norma was a dispatcher for the UTPB Campus Police. She was a Catholic.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 29, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers include Enrique Núñez, Jose Núñez, Marcus Doporto, Joey Armenta, Nathanial Valle, Steven Olivarez, Danny Olivarez and Mike Tacker.
She is preceded in death by her father, Enrique Núñez; brother, Lino Núñez; and grandparents, Julio and Honorata Núñez and Candelario and Rita Doporto. She is survived by her son, Joseph Réne Núñez of Odessa; mother, Lupe Doporto Núñez; brother and sister-in-law, Joe Núñez and Adelina Núñez; her sister, Christina Valencia; nephews, Enrique Núñez, Jose Núñez, Robert Valencia, David Valencia III and Gabriel Valencia; niece, Emmalina Valencia; uncles, Martin Doporto, George Doporto, Jose Acosta, Frank Núñez, Refugio Núñez, Julio Núñez and Ismael Núñez; aunts, Azusena Núñez, Florinda Doporto, Adelaida Doporto and Simona Núñez; and numerous cousins and friends.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Hewitt Perry
ARLINGTON — Chuck Perry, 54, a CPA/Real Estate Investor, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004, in Arlington.
A visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa and prior to services on Thursday. A graveside service is to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6801 East Highway 80, Odessa, TX 79762.
Chuck was born May 13, 1950, in Seminole, TX. to Thomas William and Ina Mae Perry. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at an early age and was very spiritual. Chuck was raised in Odessa and was a graduate of Permian High School. He earned his MBA in accounting from the University of Texas. Chuck worked for Schiff and Co. Investments and Bill Carter Investments in Dallas. He was very active in athletics and sports and enjoyed cycling, skiing, and running in marathons. Chuck ran his first marathon in New York City. To celebrate his fortieth birthday, he participated in the Grand Cayman Island Triathlon. Chuck was an extremely talented country western and gospel singer/song writer.
He is survived by his parents, Thomas William and Ina Mae Dulin Perry of Odessa; brother, Tom W. Perry and wife, Martha, of Arlington; and nephew, Matthew Perry and wife, Amanda, and their children, Michael and Kelsey Perry, all of Midlothian. Chuck will be missed by several aunts, uncles and his many friends.

Mary Caroline Barnes
ODESSA — Mary Caroline Barnes, 74, of Odessa, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Alliance Hospital. She was born August 30, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Malcolm and Inez Purcell.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Bob Sams officiating.
Mrs. Barnes graduated from Austin College, she married
A.C. Barnes June 12, 1954, in Houston. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. She started YES (Youth Encouragement Services), counseled troubled teens, was president of the Women’s Downtown Republican Club in the 1960s. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a faithful member of her Emmaus group. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a faithful servant to our Lord Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, A.C. Barnes of Odessa; son, Stephen Barnes and his wife, Kelly, of Wichita Falls; daughter, Deborah McPherson and her husband, Billy, of Odessa; brother, John Purcell and wife, Nita, of Dallas; sister, Margaret Bierschwale and husband, Milton, of Fredericksburg; grandchildren, Michael and Alan Barnes and Jason and Kaylie McPherson; sisters-in-law, Ruby, Helen and Mae; brother-in-law, Jack; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many special friends both in Odessa and in Red River.

Betty Kepple
AUSTIN — Elizabeth “Betty” June Cumming Kepple has left behind her earthly concerns and has gone forward to travel with her husband, Sam Kepple; her parents, John and Margaret Cumming; and her sister, Jenny Edwards Plum.
Betty was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., grew up in Jeannette and Greensburg, Pa., but moved to Amarillo, Texas, with her husband in 1952.
In 1958, the family moved to Odessa, Texas, where she raised her four children and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, worked at the Medical Center and was a member of the British Club. In 1992, she moved to Austin in the Lakeway area and found good friends at the Bee Cave Senior Center, Hudson Bend Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Travis United Methodist Church and loved her work at the Lake Travis Thrift Shop. Betty loved to play bingo, play the slots in Las Vegas, cruise and generally travel any chance she could.
Greatly missing her already are her children, Stuart “Dutch” Kepple, Susan and David Donaldson of Wimberley, Sharon Richardson of Las Vegas, Sam “Scott” Kepple lll of Amarillo, and Gary Richardson of Austin. Grandkids are Matthew and Shannon Donaldson of Austin and Patrina Kepple of Tyler. Family in El Paso include Ted and Norma Kepple, Kristi and Robert Wittmann, Amy and Corine, Doug and Lisa Kepple and Justin and Samuel. Family members in Baltimore, Md., are David and Greg Edwards.
Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004, at the Lake Travis United Methodist Church, 1502 RR 620 N., Austin, Texas.

Vera Joyce Livesay
ODESSA — Vera Joyce Livesay, 63, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with James Gayle officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Seagraves cemetery in Seagraves. Pallbearers include Lonnie Vaughn, Richard Vaughn, Jim Livesay, Mike Bryan, John Smith and William Martin.

Vera Joyce was born January 9, 1941, in Brownfield, Texas, to Dero Trigg and Nellie G. Cross. She married
Lawernce R. Livesay in Wellman, Texas, on January 9, 1957. He preceded her in death in 1995. She worked as a cook for ECISD and was a Church of Christ member. She also enjoyed making quilts.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence Ray Livesay Jr. and wife, Diane, of Odessa; daughters, Vicky Vaughn and husband, Robert, of Odessa, Debbie Hazard of Odessa and Terri Vanzant of LaPort; brother, J.C. Triggs of Breckenridge; sister, Mary Lois Ratliff of Chandler, Ariz.; grandchildren, Lonnie Vaughn, William Vaughn, Amber Vanzant, Jennifer Vanzant, Steven Hazard, Richard Vaughn, Savanna Hazard, Tonya Vaughn, Jason Vanzant, Ashley Livesay, Brittney Livesay and Christopher Livesay; and great-grandchildren, Elijah Vaughn, Maunicio Vaughn, Isaac Vaughn and Persephene Vaughn.
