Margaret Luella Fox Peer
ODESSA — Margaret Luella Fox Peer went to be with her Lord on Sept. 29, 2004. She was a resident of Odessa from August 1958, until 2002 when she moved to the Younger Center of Manor Park in Midland.
Margaret was born Aug. 24, 1912, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, to John and Luella Clark Fox. The family moved to Morgantown, W.Va., in 1920. She graduated from Morgantown High School in 1930, and Ohio Valley Nursing School in Wheeling W.Va., in Sept. 1933. It was there that she met Dr. George Foster Peer, whom she married
Sept. 22, 1934. His career as a U.S. Army doctor during World War II and Korea took them to Panama as well as across the U.S. In August 1958, they moved to Odessa, where he was a prominent surgeon. He died in Feb. 1983.
She was an active member of Odessa’s First United Methodist Church, UMW and her circle, and the Fidelis Class of which she was president and treasurer for many years. She was also a member and officer of the Pioneer Study Club. For several years she volunteered at the Presidential Museum and was a supporter of the Fine Arts in Odessa, including the Midland Odessa Symphony and Chorale, Ellen Noel Art Museum, Globe Theatre and Permian Playhouse.
Margaret’s family was the most important thing in her life and many activities were in support of them. She was active in Officer’s Wives activities in the Army, and Doctor’s Wives in Odessa and the Tri-County Medical Auxiliary. She enjoyed many trips with George as members and officers of the West Texas Gadabouts Trailer Club. They both spent many enjoyable hours at Sunset Country Club playing golf; following his death she participated in the women’s association. Margaret was a leader for Brownie and Girl Scouts, PTA president, Permian Band Boosters, in support of her daughter’s activities. One of her proudest achievements was the organization of Sunday School for the children of William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, John; and sister, Sarah Fox Reed. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Edney of Odessa; her grandson, Trey Jones of San Antonio, his wife, Caroline, and their daughter, Margaret Kay. Also surviving are nieces, Judy Cochran of Charlotte, N.C., Becky Alexander of Houston, Texas; and cousins, Marie Dennis of Fla., Roy Smith of Virginia and Elizabeth Denham and Henry Fox of Ohio.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Younger Center in Midland and in later months the staff of Odyssey Hospice for the love and care given her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Odessa or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist with Donnie Williams officiating. Burial will be in Woodsdale cemetery in Grafton, West Virginia.

Frances Matilda Schlemeyer
ODESSA — Frances Matilda Schlemeyer, 66, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at her residence.
Frances was born March 29, 1938, in Hobbs, N.M. She moved to Odessa in 1941 from Hobbs. She taught school at Crockett Junior High and later Odessa High School. She retired in 1993 after 33 years of teaching.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her brothers, George Schlemeyer and wife, Gene Ann Robbins, of Arlington and Carl Schlemeyer and wife, Dot, of Odessa; sister, Mary Ray and husband Eugene of Carlsbad, N.M.; and three nieces, seven nephews and seven cousins.
Pallbearers will be Trace Schlemeyer, Race Schlemeyer, Parker Schlemeyer, Hunter Schlemeyer, Matt Dorsett and Bill Proctor. Honorary pallbearers are: Joline Adkins, Gail Ahnert, DeAnn Wilson, Jennifer Bauer, Rachel Maxwell, Frances Coots, Debbie Atkinson, Regeana Burnette, Sabrina Elms, Sherri Miraglia, Jayne Turner, Letha Henley, Evie Carrigan and Laura Coleman.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Eugene Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
Contributions may be sent to the Trustee of the Frances Schlemeyer Trust at 2817 J.B.S. Parkway, Suite A 102, Odessa, TX 79762, for a Memorial to be placed at the cemetery site.

Evan Dalton Jr.
ODESSA — Evan Dalton Jr., 72, a longtime resident of Odessa, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 1, 2004. Evan was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Pecos, N.M., to Evan Sr. and Magdelena Dalton.
He came to Odessa in 1952. He was in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955. He served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and also Fort Hood, Texas.
Evan met Betty Blanton in 1956. They married
Dec. 29, 1958. They were blessed with three children, Evan Robert in 1960, Debra Lynne in 1962 and Timothy Alan in 1965. Sadly he lost Betty in 1993.
Evan was employed by E&M Supply for five years. He then ventured into the Oilfield Electrical Industry. He worked for O’Brien Electric in Monahans. Then for Zimco Electric Supply from 1965 until 1986; where he was in outside sales and served as General Manager for many years. Evan owned Thrifty Furniture and American Discount Furniture. He later owned Thrifty Furniture Upholstery. He retired in March 1999.
Evan married
Joann Jennings Dec. 24, 1994.
Evan enjoyed playing golf with his son Rob and grandsons Andrew and Luke, also many of his buddies. His five grandsons were the light of his life.
“Dad, we are so thankful for you, for your love and understanding, your advice and guidance in life’s many challenges. We are proud to have had you for our father.”
Evan was preceeded in death by wife, Betty; and parents, Evan Sr. and Magdelena Dalton.
Evan is survived by his wife, Joann Dalton of Odessa; son, Evan Robert Dalton and wife Debbie and their sons, Andrew Evan and Luke Anthony and Chad Daniel and Cody Alan Friedrichsen, all of Houston, Texas; daughter, Debra Lynne Kelly and husband Joe and their sons, Ryan Joseph and Theron Robert, all of Odessa; son, Timothy Alan and wife Dorothy and their son, Drake Andrew of Spring, Texas; brothers, Henry and Charles Dalton of Pecos, N.M., and nephews Gilbert of Grand Junction, Colo., Ernest and Joey Dalton of Pecos, N.M.; stepson, Larry Shepherd and wife Penny and their sons, David Shepherd and wife Maria and Randy Shepherd; and numerous relatives.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Trahan and the Rev. James Bishop officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mary Caroline Barnes
ODESSA — Mary Caroline Barnes, 74, of Odessa, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Alliance Hospital. She was born August 30, 1930, in Port Arthur, TX., to Malcolm and Inez Purcell.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Westminister Presbyterian Church with Bob Sams officiating.
Mrs. Barnes graduated from Austin College, she married
A.C. Barnes June 12, 1954, in Houston. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. She started YES (Youth Encouragement Services), counseled troubled teens, was president of the Women’s Downtown Republican Club in the 1960’s. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a faithful member of her Emmaus group. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a faithful servant to our Lord Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, A.C. Barnes of Odessa; son, Stephen Barnes and his wife, Kelly, of Wichita Falls; daughter, Deborah McPherson and her husband, Billy, of Odessa; brother, John Purcell and wife, Nita, of Dallas; sister, Margaret Bierschwale and husband, Milton, of Fredricksburg; grandchildren, Michael and Alan Barnes and Jason and Kaylie McPherson; sisters-in-law, Ruby, Helen and Mae; brother-in-law, Jack; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many special friends both in Odessa and in Red River.

Joyce ‘JoDee’ Cook Hogan
ODESSA — On Sept. 29, 2004, JoDee was reunited with the love of her life, her husband R.D. Hogan who preceded her in death in December 1998.
JoDee was born June 26, 1936, in Stephenville, Texas, to Sawnie and Buton Cook. They moved to Odessa in 1939. She attended Northside Elementry, the old Crockett Junior High and Odessa High School.
On Aug. 26, 1952, she married
R.D. Hogan, and in their 46 years together raised two sons and two daughters. The family spent their early years working around the country but always returned home to Odessa.
In the late ’60s, JoDee began a lifelong career as a hairstylist specializing in long hair, now a long forgotten art. Spanning over four decades, her career began at Frenches Salon. She opened her own business Salon De Villa and worked there for many years. Later went to Sahara Wig & Hair Salon to work, where many wonderful friendships and lasting bonds were forged. She had special relationships with each of her devoted customers and when they could no longer come to her she would go the them. JoDee worked many years with cancer patients helping them to regain their confidence and self esteem.
JoDee loved to dance and enjoy the night life where she played pool and spent time with her many friends. She was proud of her affiliation with the Odessa Pool League and was especially proud to participate in many charity events and fund-raisers. She enjoyed weekend getaways to the Casinos, but her greatest love was fishing. Some of her most memorable moments were spent with her family and friends on the lake or river.
JoDee has spoken of her life many times and would leave us with these words to remember. “I have lived a full wonderful life and was twice blessed. First with such a strong family who loved me so deeply. We stood strong through the hard times, laughed and danced through the good. Blessed again with many friendships that were rare and wonderful. If I have not said this to you please know that in life I have loved and cherished you deeply.”
JoDee was preceded in death by her father; husband; and two sisters.
She is survived by mother; Buton Lewis Cook of Odessa; her sons, Troy “Coco” Hogan and wife Gwen of Odessa and Rocky Dean Hogan of Lubbock; daughters, Teri Elaine Burgess of Odessa and Tami Marie Heifner and husband Bryan of Odessa; brothers-in-law, Bill Hogan and Kenneth Orren both of Odessa; sisters-in-law, Reta Lowell and Ann Hogan, both of Odessa; six grandchildren, Robin and Scott Crow, April Cowen and husband Michael, Jennifer Hogan and fiancé Lance Autry, and Brittany and Baylie Heifner; seven great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Hanah Cowen, Corey, Danielle, Reighly, Colton Autry and Dawson Hogan.
Visitation was Saturday and today at Odessa Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Funeral services have been set for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at St. Andrew’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Rogers, Charlie Brown, Mikie Thompson, Terry Olliff, Terry Huckaby, Michael Soules, Michael Cowen Honorary Pallbearers Robin and Scott Crow.

Ollie Maye Mayfield
ODESSA — Ollie Maye Mayfield, 80, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the Hospice House.
She was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Winters, Texas. She married
Ambers Everett Mayfield on Oct. 15, 1945, in San Angelo. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mayfield was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Kerre Blaine Mayfield of Odessa, Marsha Leah Bowling of Odessa, Randall Everett Mayfield of Odessa and Becky Goyne of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clydell Chapman officiating.

Roy Francis King
MIDLAND — Roy Francis King, 88, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m to 5 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 3 P.M. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Cuthbert Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Roy was born May 1, 1916, in Sanger, Texas. He moved his family to Fort Worth in 1948 where he worked for Oak Farms Dairy. In 1963, he moved to Midland and began working for Albertsons.
On Aug. 27, 1965, he married
Dell Jones. They resided in Midland until January 1999, then moved to Odessa. After his retirement, he devoted his time to his vegetable garden and his flowers. Roy was a member of Cuthbert Avenue Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Dell King; his parents, Roma and Kate King; and his brother Ray Thomas King.
Roy is survived by his children, Bill King and wife Sherry of Hurst, Pat McCormick Potts and husband Calvin of Arlington, Beverly Birch and husband Robert of Garland, Linda McCollum and husband John and Don Jones, all of Odessa; brothers, Clyde King of Era and Roma Alvah King both of Dallas; sisters, Betty Jo Beard of Grand Prairie and Clara Lowe of Hayward, Calif.; grandchildren, Traci Freeman and husband Gary, Misti Gipson and husband Tony, Kristi Eicher and husband Craig, Dylan Louis Jones and Derek Louis Jones, all of Odessa, Lydia Cannyn of Galveston, Tammy Mineard of Colorado City, Rocky Louis Jones of Victoria, Gene McCormick and wife Rene of Southlake, Vickie Clark of Grapevine, Tammy Erickson and husband Steve of Roanoke, Marty McCormick and wife Parrish of Weatherford, Alan King and wife Susan of Hurst, Russell King of Keller and Sarah Sarver and husband Bruce of Dallas; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and Mabel King, his former wife; and an extended family and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
