ODESSA — James Franklin Ford, “Heavy” to most, passed to be with the Lord October 20, 2004. He was born April 8, 1921, in Ashdown, Arkansas, and was the eldest of eight children of Lercy and Texi Mahali Ford. He spent his early adulthood working at Saw Mills, basket factories, logging and various farm work. He worked for the Ector County Parks and Recreation Department and continued to work there through the transition of the Parks and Recreation turning over to the city of Odessa. He was a loyal and dedicated employee until he retired in 1995.
Heavy was a faithful member of A-A for nearly 25 years and was an inspiration to many. Heavy enjoyed the simpler things in life. Though his life did not grant him a wife or children of his own, he was blessed with the love of a large family of brothers, sisters, cousins, and countless nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends, all who would say he was the most beloved uncle there ever was.
