Betty Louise Fischer
ABILENE — Betty Louise (Giller) Fischer completed her life in this world on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004.
Mrs. Fischer was born May 27, 1921, in Ranger, Texas.
She graduated from Breckenridge High School in Breckenridge, Texas, in 1939. She attended business college in Dallas and worked for Jake Sandifer Oil Company as a secretary.
She met and married
the love of her life — Elmer Fischer — at Camp Barkley Army Chapel on Jan. 15, 1944, in Abilene, Texas. Betty lived in Kermit, Texas, with her parents — Charles and Inez Giller while Elmer fought in the European front during World War II. Elmer preceded her in death in 1999 after 55 years together.
Betty worked part-time with Elmer at the railroad agency and helped deliver the San Angelo-Standard Times newspaper in Kermit. The Fischers spent some 25 years in Kermit before moving to Abilene, Texas. There, Betty worked at the City Library. The Fischers spent 32 years in Abilene — Betty moving to San Antonio after Mr. Fischer’s death.
Although she worked part-time for periods of her life, Betty was a loving, faithful wife and mother to her husband and three children. Her positive personality infected those around her. Her love of life gave her the strength to endure asthma, heart problems, breast cancer, hip and knee replacement, lung disease, and diabetes. Her care and concern for others was her special gift in this world.
Betty loved to travel with her family. Probably, her happiest time was on picnics with family members. She had a Texas-sized heart of compassion and love for all. Betty lived life to the fullest. Many of us are blessed to have shared this life with her. We will never forget her. We will rejoice at the day we can see her again.
Mrs. Fischer is survived by her children, Craig Fischer of San Antonio, Texas, Jeff Fischer and his wife, Sandy, of Boerne, Texas, and Sally (Fischer) Rihn and husband Dayle of Lytle, Texas; grandchildren, Clay Fischer and wife-to-be, Toni, of Austin, Texas, Beth Zuercher and husband, Rob, of Denver, Colo., and Sarah and Samantha Rihn of Lytle, Texas.
