Jackie Talmadge King
ODESSA — J.T. King passed peacefully from this earthly life at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept 3. He was surrounded by family members who knew him best and love him the most.
J.T. King was born on Jan. 19, 1924, son of Garland and Ina Griffin King in Tahoka. He graduated from Williams High School in 1941 and attended Texas Tech before marrying the love of his life, Brownie Lancaster, in San Diego on July 22, 1942. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, serving in the Pacific Theatre and the post-war occupation of China as an exemplary member of the world’s “Greatest Generation”.
J.T. returned home to graduate from Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, under the G.I. Bill, where he played football and tennis.
Upon graduation, he moved his family to Odessa in the late 1940’s to work for Shell Oil Company. J.T. was then hired by ECISD to coach and teach; thereby, fulfilling a life long dream and passion.
He coached and taught in the community he loved for 33 years before retiring in 1985. The profound impact of his positive influence will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
First and foremost a Christian, J.T. was an active member of the Eisenhower Church of Christ Congregation from its’ inception in 1955 and was also involved with the Dougherty Street Church of Christ in Eastland. J.T. excelled at gardening, fishing, and studied the Bible on a daily basis.
J.T.’s father, mother, two brothers and great-grandchild, Alleen Garnett, precede him in death. Survivors include his wife Brownie Lancaster King; four children and their spouses, Jackie and David Tomme of Longview, James and Kathy Namken King of Odessa, Kade and Monica Mabry King of San Antonio, and Beth King Nock and Fred Nock, also of San Antonio; and sister Mary Lou King of Breckenridge. Surviving grandchildren are Jay Tomme of Longview, Melanie Tomme Garnett and Derrick of Colorado City, Jason King of Odessa, Dustin and Melissa Rayborn King of Flower Mound, Amanda King of Austin, Megan and Coleman Nock of San Antonio and great-grandchildren Maddie Garnett and Katie King.
Family will receive visitors from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Services will be at noon on Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 at the Eisenhower Church of Christ with Burt Groves officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Eisenhower Youth Fund.

Edna Louise Poer Withers
MONAHANS — Edna Louise Poer Withers, 96 passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at Monahans Managed Care Center.
She was born March 7, 1908 in Toyah. Her parents were William Emmitt and Suzie Pearl McElvain Poer.
Edna Withers grew up in Pecos, and continued to live there for most of her life. She attended Sul Ross College and Mary Hardin Baylor. She loved children, and taught school in Toyah, Fort Stockton, Barstow and Pecos. She also ran a Kindergarten in her Pecos home for many years. Edna was also a musician and an artist. She was a founding member of the Pecos Art Club and a member of the Merry Wives Club. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Pecos, where she directed the 5-year-old Sunday School Department for many years.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband, M. P. (Buddy) Withers, two brothers, Stanley Poer and Nathan Poer, and one sister, Ruby (Tiny) Walker.
She is survived by one brother, Truett Poer, of Monahans and by nine nieces and nephews.
Services have been set for 4 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Pecos, with Rev. Greer Willis officiating. Viewing will be in the Foyer of the Church from 3:20 p.m. until 3:40 p.m. There will be no public graveside service. Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/ Jackie Harkey of Monahans.

Joan Lillian Lucas
ODESSA — Joan Lillian Lucas, 67, died Sunday, September 5, 2004, at Regency Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
Mrs. Lucas lived in Odessa for 22 years and was previously from East Orange, New Jersey.
She is survived by her son, James Lucas of Odessa; daughters, Pamela Benavidez of Odessa Eleanor Rodriquez of Newark, NJ.; granddaughter, Jennifer Benavidez of Odessa and grandson, Eric Benavidez of Odessa.
She was born September 26, 1936, in East Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Robert and Etta Waters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Weeks officiating. Burial will be in the Ector County cemetery in Odessa.

Donnie Wayne Goheen
ODESSA — Donnie Goheen, of Gardendale, went to join his father, Leslie Goheen in heaven on Sept. 3, 2004. Donnie was born on December 28, 1955, to Leslie Goheen and Laura Haas, in Littlefield, Tx.
Donnie is the owner of Goheen Alignment in Odessa. Donnie worked with his dad Leslie, until his retirement and then his son Jeramy joined the team. They have had Goheen Alignment for 29 years. Jeramy will carry on the business.
Donnie was a joy to know and be around. He was always helping whoever he could. He loved to ride his motorcycle and race his cars, and loved to play with kids. He loved his cat Chuey.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 26 years Kathy; daughter, Jennifer and husband Justin Register; son, Jeramy Goheen and fiancé Kara Donaldson; mother and stepdad, Laura and Jim Haas of Whitney, Texas; sister Debra Hall of Schertz, Texas; and many beloved family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Life Unlimited Church, located at East Loop 338 and highway 191. Major and Mrs. Michael Barnhouse will officiate.
Donnie will be greatly missed by all. We love you Donnie!

Cecil Hughes
ODESSA — Cecil Hughes, 84, of Odessa passed away on September 4, 2004, at Parks Methodist Nursing Home. Mr. Hughes was born in Anson, Texas on August 30, 1920,
He is survived by Ruth Hughes, his wife of 63 years. They were residents of Odessa for 50 years having moved from Abilene, Texas in 1954.
Surviving their father are the three children of Cecil and Ruth Hughes and their families: Randy and Betty Hughes of Midland; David and Suzanne Hughes of Midland; Jerry and Terry Ormand of Dallas. Cecil also had six grandchildren: Kit and Matt Hughes, Heather and Tracy Hughes, and Emily and Andrew Ormand.
During World War II, Mr. Hughes served his country well as a member of the U.S. Army.
For many years Mr. Hughes was employed in the automotive parts business. However, he also engaged in the used car sales business for most of his adult years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on September 7, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas.

Fern Percy
MIDLAND — Services for Bonnie Fern Brigance Percy, 83, of Midland are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church Glass Chapel with Rev. William McReynolds officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
She was born June 17, 1921, in Howard County, Texas. Fern was raised and educated in Big Spring. She married
Clarence Percy, Jr. on February 14, 1940. Clarence and Fern moved to Midland in 1979 after his retirement from Union Pacific Railroad. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia. Fern was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Midland and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Clarence on July 23, 1992, and her sister, Mattie Ella “Patty” Watkins.
Fern is survived by her son, Clarence Percy III and wife Gracie of Odessa and her daughter, Donna Potter and husband Terry of Midland; three granddaughters; one grandson; four great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Fellowship Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church.

James Harold Raglin
GRANDFALLS — James Harold Raglin, 80, of San Angelo, went to be with his Lord on September 5, 2004. He was born on January 28, 1924, in Detroit, Texas to Johnnie and Minnie Raglin.
He was a resident of San Angelo, and a member of Victory Christian Center in San Angelo. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired County Commissioner for Ward County. He married
Dorothy Irwin on June 10, 1969, in Morton, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of San Angelo. Two daughters, Sue Fleming of Montalba, Texas and Donna Lee Raglin of Lexington, Texas. A son, James Harold Raglin, Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Rockdale, Texas. Two step-sons, Mike Irwin and wife Mary, of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Eddie Irwin of Wichita Falls, Texas. A step-daughter, Sharon Giles and husband Joe, of Azle, Texas. Also nine grandchildren, Eric Fleming, Christy Raglin, Lance Raglin, Brandon Bell, Daphne Hilgers, Dusty Giles, Denny Giles, Aymee Irwin, and Mandi Irwin, Also by 5 great-grandchildren. Also by one brother, Billy Raglin of Ruidoso, New Mexico.
His parents, two brothers, Leon and Quincy Raglin, and a son, John Richard Raglin, preceded him in death.
Services have been set for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at the Union Church of Grandfalls. Burial will follow at Tamarisk cemetery in Grandfalls.
Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.

Billy Whitlock
ODESSA — Billy Whitlock, 75, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Hospice House.
He was born May 1, 1929, to Clarence O. and Ruth Whitlock in Merkel. He married
Addie Belle Anderson on Dec. 30, 1947, in Waco, and taught Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at Odessa College, where he developed a degreed program for his profession. He then founded the Ref. and A/C program at OHS where he taught until his retirement at which time the program closed. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Addie Belle Whitlock of Odessa; daughters, Rebecca Ann McSpadden of Odessa; Anna Marie Whitlock Henry of Lubbock; and Sally Ruth Bohls of Carrollton; brothers, R. L. Williams of Eastland, and Sam B. Whitlock of Odessa; sister, Mary Ann Rodgers of Ridgecrest, Cal.; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at First Baptist Church with Byron McWilliams officiating. Interment will follow at Ector County cemetery.
Pall bearers are Steve Pepper, Larry Pepper, Jimmy Zugg, Cavin Zugg, Eddie Rhodes, Fred Martin, Don Pradon, Darrell Pradon, Terry Presley, and James Silvester.
Ex-students of Mr. Whitlock will be seated in a reserved section at the services.
