Gloria Jeanne Owens
Gloria Jeanne Owens, 82, died peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2004, in Georgetown, Texas. The oldest child of Carl and Leila Moeller, she was born in Carroll, Iowa, on July 13, 1922.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Jack B. Owens; children, Katherine Owens and husband, Bruce DuBose, of Dallas, Kimberley Owens Shield and husband, Alan Shield, of Georgetown, and Carl Robert Owens of Liberty Hill; and grandchild, Crawford Shield.
She was a long time resident of northwest Houston. Known for her generosity and kindness she was an active volunteer all her life. She was active in the Odessa Symphony Guild and St. John’s Altar Guild while living in Odessa, Texas, and in the Daughters of the King and the NOMADS of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church while in Houston. She and husband Jack were also recognized for their volunteer work with literacy programs. She was an avid supporter of the arts.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2004, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas.
Elidia Mireles Pineda
ODESSA - Elidia Mireles Pineda, 63, of Odessa, passed away Thursday December 2, 2004, at Federal Medical Center Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was born on October 26, 1941, in Alpine, Texas, to Juan and Frances Gonzales Mireles. She united in marriage to Henry Pineda in 1955, here in Odessa, and to this marriage were born two children, Sammy and Henry Jr. She was a Christian Catholic and a housewife.
She is preceded in death by husband, Henry Pineda Sr., son; Henry Pineda Jr.; father, Juan Mireles; and brother, Manuel Mireles Sr.
She is survived by her son, Sammy Pineda of Odessa; mother; Frances G. Mireles of Odessa; brother; Tiburcio “Butch” Mireles of Odessa; sisters, Enedina Munoz and Maria Freeman, both of Odessa; grandson, David Pineda of Maryland; and one great-grandchild; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and lots of friends.
A rosary will be recited today, December 9, 2004, at 7 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ruben Munoz III, Rodrigo Martinez, Michael Cabrera, Fernando Mireles, Manuel Mireles Jr. and Nat Freeman.

Richard Ruiz
ODESSA - Richard Ruiz, 78 years of age, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Mr. Ruiz was born February 6, 1926, in Ft. Stockton to father, Tomas Ruiz and mother, Antonia Cano Ruiz, whom both preceded him death. Mr. Ruiz was a Catholic.
Services will be today, December 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Martinez Funeral Home with Fr. Mark Miller officiating. A rosary will be said after the service. Burial will be at a later date in Fulton, Illinois, under the direction of Bosma/Renkes Funeral Home of Illinois.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Ruiz of Odessa; sons, Ricardo Ruiz and wife, Odilla, of Georgia, and Henry Ruiz and wife, Beverly, of Iowa; daughters, Marge Hook and husband, Ron, of Illinois, Rosie Wilkerson and husband, Kerry, of Iowa, Yolanda Schlitter and husband, Dan, of Iowa, and Norma Brimley and husband, Jeff, of Illinois; sisters, Felisita Subia of Odessa, TX, Candida Kelly of Alaska, and Dominga Molinar of Ft. Stockton, TX; brothers, Jay Ruiz and Ernesto Ruiz and Noe Ruiz, all of Ft. Stockton, TX, Salvador Ruiz of Monahans, TX, Eugene Ruiz of El Paso, TX, and Pablo Ruiz of Odessa, TX; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Ruiz of Odessa; two sons, Raul and Tony Ruiz, both of Illinois; and a grandson, Michael Ruiz of Ft. Stockton.

Alice Isabel ‘Bell’ Vacca
LEWISVILLE - Alice Isabel “Bell” Vacca, 81, a retired retail associate, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2004, in Lewisville.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, December 9 at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, 1897 West Main St. in Lewisville, TX.
Bell started her retail career at Marshal Fields in Chicago, where her most famous customer Boris Karlof frequented the record department. She took a 30 year hiatus to raise a family and resumed her career at Dillards in Dallas where she excelled at sales in the cosmetics department and delighted her younger co-workers with her many snacks, treats, and enthusiasm she brought to work.
She will be remembered for her work in the church, the love of her husband Johnny of 59 years, a short but scintillating career as a ballerina in Chicago and her love of going through other people’s trash to find treasures. She loved her children and did her best to make them strong and independent.
She is survived by son, John and his wife, Jolynn; daughter, Dawn and her husband, Vic Pennel; daughter Kim; grandsons, John IV and his wife, Christi, and Scott and his wife, Ashley; sister, Violet Chiabai; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Georgia Kent Corbell Walker
CRANE - Georgia Kent Corbell Walker, 80, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 4, 2004.
There will be no visitation in Carlsbad.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Landsun Otto Chapel with Chaplain Erwin Van Essen of Landsun Homes officiating.
Visitation in Crane, Texas will be Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in Crane, Texas, on Friday, December 10, 2004, at First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. with Reverend Larry Krueger officiating. Interment will follow at Crane County cemetery in Crane, Texas.

Georgia Kent Corbell Walker was born in Petersburg, Texas, on March 14, 1924, to Tom and Laura Kent Laseter. Along with her husband, Franklin Corbell, she moved to Crane, Texas, in 1948. Even though Mr. Corbell passed away after 18 years of marriage, she continued living in Crane and was a resident there for 53 years before moving to Carlsbad. In 1967, she married
Al Walker and they were married
for 12 years before he passed away. During their years together, they enjoyed traveling and she later enjoyed traveling with her lady friends. She had been a resident of Landsun Homes since 2001, and was active in Delta Kappa Gamma.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Franklin Corbell and Al Walker, as well as her parents, Tom and Laura Lena Laseter; sister, Lena Tom; and aunts, Belle Eaves and Mary Davidson.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Rita Sibley and husband, John R., of Carlsbad, New Mexico; six stepchildren, Helen, Sue, Mary, Pete, Bill and Barbara; one niece, Sherry Beckham of Georgetown, Texas; one brother, Keith Laseter and wife, Joyce of Georgetown, Texas; four cousins, Leon Eaves of Leander, Texas, Billy Eaves of Plainview, Texas, Ray Eaves of Edenberg, Texas, and Jimmy Eaves of Brownsville, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Fred Harrelson, Ted Hogan, Tom Hogan, Gene Cowden, Charles Passuer and Bob Tobin.

Frances Long
ODESSA - Frances Long, 68, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1936, to Wyle Lawton and Hester Faye Payne in Hobbs, N.M.
On Dec. 26, 1974, she married
Charles William Long. She was a lifelong Odessa resident, a homemaker and a member of Full Gospel River of Life Church.
Mrs. Long is preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Long; one brother, Wilburn Payne and one son, Simon Stephen Smith.
Frances is survived by son, Chad Long and wife Lisa of Odessa; daughters, Tanice Wilson and husband Howard of Odessa, Kimila Walser and husband Jay of Odessa, Cherrie Loftin and husband Don of Vidor; grandchildren, Brandon McPherson, Shelby Loftin, Brandon Long, Shannon Wilson and wife Nicole, Christie Gamboa, Laura Johnson and husband Don; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Wilson, Heather Gamboa and Christopher Gamboa, Kylea Johnson, Serenty Wilson and Colby Johnson.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Scott Sprouse and Don Heatherington officiating.

Lois “Goldie” McCorkle
JOSHUA - Lois “Goldie” McCorkle, 80, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Reece Prairie Baptist Church, 9705 CR 1016, Burleson.
Burial: Caddo cemetery in Joshua. Visitations were held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson.

Mamie Lois McCorkle was born June 17, 1924, in Abilene to Robert and Minta Clark Cooper. She married
William Thomas McCorkle on May 18, 1943. She and her husband moved to Joshua from Odessa in 1982. She was a member of Reece Prairie Baptist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Huguley Nursing Home and Community Hospice for their loving care of Lois. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William T. “Bill” McCorkle in 1999.
Survivors: Son, Billy Glen McCorkle and wife, JoAnn of Joshua; daughter, Brenda Scott and husband, Jack of Burleson; brother, A.J. Carolyn Ann Meador North
ODESSA - Carolyn Ann Meador North left this world for her home in Heaven Monday evening, Nov. 29, 2004, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hospice House Foundation Home in Odessa.
Carolyn was born September 19, 1949, in Odessa to Foy and Dorothy Meador.
She leaves behind, her parents, Dorothy and Foy Meador; three children, daughters, Natalie Gumpl and husband Mitch of Round Rock, Amanda Edwards and husband Paul of Crosby, TX; son, Erik Michael North of Odessa; brother, Steven Meador and wife Debra of Odessa; grandsons, Samuel Michael Edwards of Crosby and David Foy Gumpl of Round Rock; nieces Courtney Phillips and husband Chris of San Antonio and Heather Oakland Smith of Higgley, AZ.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Michael Gordon North in 1981.
She attended public school in Odessa and Odessa College and received her B.S. degree from Texas Tech in Lubbock. and her masters degree from New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces. She taught school in Meadow and El Paso and retired from Region 18 Education Service Center working as a Vocational Equity Consultant.
Carolyn was a wonderful loving daughter, sister and mother to her family.
After her husband’s death she devoted her life to raising her three children and her career. She provided well for her family making sure her children were provided with the opportunity for a college education.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron McWilliams and the Rev. Johnny Young officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family asks in lieu of flowers to make donations to Hospice House at 516 N. Texas St. Odessa, TX, or the American Cancer Society.

James Warner “Cotton” Parker
ODESSA - James Warner Parker, 71, a longtime resident of Odessa passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at his residence. He was born June 13, 1933 in Abilene. He was a Navy veteran. He was production superintendent for Kerr-McGee Oil Co. for 10 years and retired in 2000.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Neva Gail Brown; and a brother.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Parker of Odessa; sons, Tommy Brown, Eric Lynn Parker and Terry Wayne Parker, all of Odessa; daughter, Wendy Lunceford of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Marie Reagon of Belton, MO, Juanita Large of Abilene; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Rose Hill cemetery with Griffin Jones officiating.
