Charles Anderson Southerland
MIDLAND - Charles Anderson “Chuck” Southerland passed away Sunday, November 14, 2004, at his residence in Manor Park.
He was born April 10, 1925, to parents Charley and Virgie Byrum Southerland in Morgan, Bosque County, Texas. Upon graduating from Morgan High School, Chuck joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Pecos during World War II from 1943-45. Upon his discharge he attended Baylor University receiving his B.S. in Geology in 1949. He married
Darcus Marcelle Harrison in Waco, Texas, on October 24, 1947.
Charles was employed as manager/owner in the electrical wholesale supply business from 1949, until his retirement in January of 1991. Most of those years were spent in the Dallas area. He was a deacon and longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Cliff, Texas. He loved teaching young people and was very active in other ministries of the church. Charles moved to Manor Park in 2002, due to failing health. At the time of his death he was a member of Wilshire Park Baptist Church in Midland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; and sister.
He leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Marcelle Southerland; one daughter, Patti Southerland Thrasher and husband, Bill, of Odessa; and two grandchildren, Brian of Waco, Texas, and Amy of Odessa, Texas; sister-in-law, Maye Southerland of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.

Eunice Vera Pyron
BERRYVILLE - Graveside services for Eunice Vera Pyron, 86, of Frankston, TX, formerly of Odessa, TX, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Garden Oaks Memorial Park in Berryville, TX, with Pastor James Farmer officiating. Mrs. Pyron died Saturday, November 13, 2004, in Frankston. Eunice was born March 29, 1918, in Midlothian, TX. She was a homemaker and attended Assembly of God.
Mrs. Pyron was preceded in death by her husband, O.B. Pyron.
She is survived by her mother, Roberta Blackman Pyron of Mansfield, TX; sons, Rick Pyron and wife, Donna, of Odessa, TX, and Charles Pyron and wife, Peggy, of Austin, TX; daughter, Doris Jackson and husband, Gene, of Flint, TX; one brother; and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at the funeral home.
Salomon Salmeron Sr.
Odessa - Salomon Salmeron Sr., 48 years of age, passed away Nov. 11, 2004, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
He was born Oct. 15, 1956, in Ojinaga, Mexico to Crispin and Maria Salmeron. He married
Martha Alcantar on Feb. 14, 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Juan Guzman Salmeron; and sister, Josefina S. Villa.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Salmeron of Odessa; sons, Salomon Salmeron Jr. of Dallas, and Gilbert Salmeron of Dallas; daughters; Denise Salmeron of Dallas and Maria Antonia Salmeron also of Dallas; brother, Gamaliel Salmeron of El Paso, sisters; Antonia Nino, Loida Hernandez, Abigail Lopez and Rebecca Carrasco, all of Odessa, Ninfa Rodriguez of Presidio, Texas, and Enice Soto of Elgin, Ill; grandchildren, Salomon Salmeron III, Delilah Salmeron, Savannah Salmeron and Nathaniel Salmeron, all of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.
A prayer service is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Iglesia Apostolica en la fe de Cristo Jesus. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Iglesia Apostolica en la fe de Cristo Jesus with Pastor Roman Arreola and Victor Soto officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Salomon Salmeron Jr, Gilbert Salmeron, Rene Carrasco, Mario Rodriguez, Efren Rodriguez and Aaron Ramiez.

Nona B. Scott
Odessa - Nona B. Scott, a longtime resident of West Texas, passed away at the age of 86 on Thursday, November 11, 2004, after a long illness involving a stroke.
She and her loving husband, Zack, who died in August 2004, were long-established residents of the Manor Park Retirement Community in Midland, Texas.
Nona was born in Tom Green County to John and Mabel Caudle and grew up with two sisters, Blanche Wyatt, and Naomi Caudle and one brother, Abe Caudle (all preceding her in death).
She is survived by her loving sons and daughter-in-laws, Ken and wife Sharon of Dallas, Abe and wife Nelda of Goldsmith and Charles and wife Sharin of Houston. Additionally she is survived by five grandchildren...Zack, Hal, John Charles, Lauren and Lindsey; and one great-grandchild, Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her quiet loving personality endeared her to her family and many friends who enjoyed the warmth of her home and true care she had for others. All her friends enjoyed the labors of her wonderful cooking that was often the magnet that kept friends and family together on holidays. She loved the beauty of nature; and she could often be found outdoors in her flower garden, observing birds or animals or fishing a small stream in Colorado.
She and Zack were active members in the churches of the community where they lived... the Goldsmith Methodist Church, the First Methodist Church of Odessa and Run-Away Bay Community Church. Her faith and dignity were the centerpiece of her life and became an inspiration to all those that came to know and love her.
A visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating. Private graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ray Holt Conatser
ODESSA - Ray Holt Conatser, 72, of Odessa, passed away November 11, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2004, at the Vine Baptist Church with Johnny Touchstone, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Ray was born June 14, 1932, in Lingleville, TX, to John and Mable Hickey Conatser. He married
Mary Frances Anderson on April 11, 1958, in Ft. Worth. They moved to Odessa in 1959. Ray worked at Crockett Jr. High School, as a teacher, for 32 years. He was a deacon at Vine Baptist Church, President of the Classroom Teachers Association and a longtime bowler.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Conatser of Odessa; son, Kevin Conatser of Odessa; daughter, Kristi Nicholas and her husband, James, of Odessa; granddaughters, Morgan Blair Conatser, Krystyn Marie Conatser and Kaytlyn Suzanne Conatser; grandsons, Michael Nicholas and Keith Nicholas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Otis Conatser and his wife, Beverly, of Dallas, Billy Jack Conatser of Kennedale, TX, Jimmy Conatser and his wife, Peggy, of Andrews, Bobby and his wife, Jo Rita, of Stephenville and Donna Conatser of Stephenville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Robinson and her husband, Richard, of Hobbs, and Mary Jo Sheppard and her husband, Rex, of Mansfield, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Velva Iva Cooper
ODESSA - Velva Iva Cooper, 92, of Odessa, passed away November 11, 2004. She was born December 20, 1911, to John Wesley Strout and Ausley Lena Leslie on the Lemon Ranch outside of Tulia, Swisher County, Texas, in a half dug-out house.
Velva graduated from high school in 1929. She belonged to the Dramatic Society and played the violin in the orchestra. Upon graduation, she went to work for the Western Union in Tulsa. On July 8, 1933, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Velva married
Paul Ward Cooper and in 1956, they moved to Odessa. They were charter members of Bethany Christian Church and both were chairman of the board. After Paul’s passing in 1960, she continued to work in Odessa for Grimshaw Construction Co. She was named Woman of the Year for Women in Construction and for the American Business Women’s Association. In addition she was a chairperson of the Ector County Heart Association. She retired as the executive secretary for the Odessa Board of Realtors and after her retirement she traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe and the Far East.
Velva is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ward Cooper; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Paul Willis Cooper and wife, Carolyn, of Odessa; daughters, Sue Cooper Hayes and husband, William T. Hayes, of Tiki, TX, and Pauline Gleason and husband, Pat Gleason, of Seattle, Washington; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Harker officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Johnny Martin ‘Tooter’ Dyson
ODESSA - Johnny Martin “Tooter” Dyson, 34, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2004, at his residence. He was born December 5, 1969, in Odessa.
He married
Angela Davis August 9, 1991, in Odessa. He worked for Key Energy Services. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Dyson of Odessa; son, Sammye Dyson of Odessa; stepson, Justin Johnson and wife, Jessica, of Odessa; father, Sam Dyson of Odessa; mother and stepfather, Winona and Robert Miller of Hobbs; grandmother, Betty Wilhelm of Lovington; three brothers, Jack Jones of Dallas, Robert Miller Jr. of Hobbs and James Whetmore of Odessa; sister, Chyree Miller of Hobbs; and granddaughter, Ashlee Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. New Mexico time at the Lovington cemetery in Lovington, N.M.

Robert L. Nickell Jr.
MIDLAND - Robert Lee Nickell Jr., 74, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2004, after a long illness.
Bob was born October 27, 1930, in Del Rio, Texas, the son of Theresa and Robert L. Nickell. He graduated from Alpine High School. He attended Sul Ross University where he played for the university football team. He served in CID in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1953. Bob married
Gladys Hill of Ballinger, Texas, on November 11, 1954. He graduated from Texas Technological College in 1958, and was employed by El Paso Natural Gas as a drilling engineer in Farmington, New Mexico. He remained with the company for 28 years, retiring as regional operations manager of El Paso Exploration in Midland, Texas in 1986. He was a volunteer interviewer for the Commemorative Air Force and was on the Board of Directors for the Permian Basin International Oil Show. He was a former member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Texas Professional Engineers.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gladys Nickell of Midland, TX; sisters, Helen Wilkerson and husband, Marion, of Garden City, TX; Marilyn Read and husband, Bob, of Big Spring, TX; several nieces, a nephew and a host of friends.
The family especially wishes to thank Dr. John McKenna and Dr. John Worrell for their care, compassion and friendship in treating Bob over the years, with a special thanks to friends for their support and love.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Friday, December 10, 2004, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Jeanne P. Card
FORT STOCKTON - Mrs. Jeanne P. Card, 86, of Fort Stockton, TX, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.
She was born March 10, 1918, in Hagerman, N.M., to Clarence C. and Winifred Mae Pritchard. On July 3, 1940, she married
W.L. “Dub” Card in Pecos, Texas. In 1966, they moved to Fort Stockton, TX, where Mrs. Card was a longtime member of the Fort Stockton Garden Club and many bridge clubs. She was active in the Homebound Ministry of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 18, 1994.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Fort Stockton with the Rev. Bob Cheek officiating. Burial will follow at the East Hill cemetery. Services by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
She is survived by two sons, W.L. Card Jr. and wife, Martha, of Pecos, TX, and Robert Card and wife, Sarah, of Fort Stockton, TX; two daughters, Connie Phillips and husband, Fred, of Odessa, TX, and Pat Dunagan and husband, Dan, of Alpine, TX; sister, Helen Orrison and husband, Lowell, of Roswell, N.M.; brother, Stuart Pritchard and wife, Rita, of Roswell, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Paulette
ODESSA - Dorothy Paulette, 89, of Odessa, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004. For 28 years she had owned and operated Paulette Laundry on Grandview Avenue.
She was born April 10, 1915, in Dotson, TX, to Jerry Moss Stanfield and Nancy Stanfield. She married
Roy Paulette in 1932. They had three sons, R.C., Charles and Jerry. The Paulettes had many beloved pets that included dogs, cats, birds and turtles. Many of these animals spent a lot of time at the laundry and customers seemed to enjoy them.
Mrs. Paulette was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Grover and Cordell Stanfield.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, R.C. and Irene of Odessa, Charles and Beverly of San Antonio, and Jerry and JoAnn of Austin. She leaves behind four grandsons and four granddaughters, nineteen great-grandchildren; and other family and friends. She also leaves her lovable, devoted Boston Terrier, Sissy, who was her dear companion and her beautiful cat, Callie.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2004, at Immanuel Baptist Church with her former pastor Rev. Bill Cook officiating. Mrs. Paulette had been a member of Immanuel since 1948. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
