Ginger Johnson
Midland - Ginger Johnson, 69, of Midland, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Midland with the Rev. Jon Stasney and the Rev. Jonathan Hartzer officiating.
Ginger was born March 15, 1935, in Ogden, Arkansas, to Will and Mildred Tong. She graduated from high school in Corpus Christi. Ginger married
Merion Johnson on June 4, 1953 in Sinton, Texas.
She attended Odessa College and Midland College and worked as a nurse in the Midland-Odessa area for 15 years, retiring in 1990. They moved from Odessa to Midland in 1998. Ginger’s life was consumed with prayer for the needs of others and by her witness to all through her life dedicated to Jesus Christ. All who knew her can be certain that she is now in a better place. She was a member of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Midland.
Ginger is survived by her husband, Merion of Midland; two sons, Dennis Johnson and David Johnson and one daughter, Bethany Caldwell, all of Odessa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dale Tong of Hurst, Gerald Tong of Copperas Cove, and Willie Tong of Bossier City, La.; and two sisters, Linda St. George of Tempe, AZ, and Kathy Francen of Lewisville. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
In leiu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Home Hospice, 901 W Texas, Midland, TX 79701.

Juan Bautista Ponce
Odessa - Juan Bautista Ponce, 78, of Odessa, passed away on December 30, 2004.
Juan was born February 15, 1926, in Durango, Mexico, to his parents Jose Ponce and Fransisca Acuna. He was a Missionary and a Pastor. On September 3, 1956, in Chihuahua, Mexico, he married
his wife Amparo Ponce.
Juan is survived by his wife Amparo Ponce; his brothers, Filimon Ponce of Fort Stockton, Texas, Ramiro Ponce of Guymon, Okla.; sisters, Clotilde Escalera, of Elkhart, Kan., and Nicandra Perez of Plainview, Texas. His children are Ramon Ponce of Odessa, Marissa Sanchez of Midland, Armida Aranda of Ojinaga, Mexico, Javier Ponce of Odessa, Jose Ponce of Odessa, Lucy Stevens of Edmore, Mich., Hilda Nieto of Odessa and Ymelda Ponce of Odessa. Juan has 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Mario Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ismael M. Rivas Sr.
Odessa - A ray of light, like the sunshine to his family’s life went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 31, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mr. Rivas, 74, was born June 17, 1930, in Casa Piedra, Texas, to Abelino and Florencia Muñoz Rivas Sr.
He united in marriage to the love of his life Socorro Lujan on January 10, 1962, here in Odessa, cherishing 42 wonderful years. He was a devoted Christian Catholic.
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather cherishing the beauty of having all his grandchildren around him. Mr. Rivas retired from the City of Odessa’s street repair department.
He is preceded in death by Son, Albert Rivas, Parents, Abelino and Florencia M. Rivas Sr.; two Brothers, Cruz Rivas Sr. and Manuel Rivas Sr.
He is survived by Wife, Socorro L. Rivas of Odessa; Son, Ismael Rivas Jr. of Odessa; Daughters, RoseMary R. Armendariz and husband Edward of Houston and Erica Marie R. Barrera and husband Abraham of Odessa; Brothers, Abelino Rivas Jr. of Odessa, Ramon Rivas, Demetrio Rivas of Midland, Victor Rivas Sr. and Dolores Rivas of Odessa; Sisters, Rita Rivas and Aurora Rivas of Odessa; two Grandchildren, Edward Jr. and Amanda Armendariz; two Great-Grandchildren, Izabelle Marie and Alejandra Barrera; several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Lots of Friends.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2005, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Francis Frey officiating. Interment to follow at RoseHill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Victor Martinez, Richard Rivas, Joe Rivas, Robert Rivas, Victor Rivas Jr., Elijh Rivas, Mickey Rivas and Tony Rivas.

Arthur L. Shelton
Odessa - Arthur L. Shelton, 88, of Odessa, passed away December 31, 2004, at Seabury Nursing Center.
He was born May 25, 1916, in Greenville, Texas. He married
Ella Joyce Norton September 5, 1941, in Ranger. They moved to Odessa from Ranger in 1951.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Joyce in 1993. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Before his retirement in 1983, Mr. Shelton was employed by Ref-Chem for 25 years.
He is survived by a son Don Shelton and wife Rena of Monahans; a daughter, Kathleen Lackey and husband Mike of Odessa; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Evergreen cemetery in Ranger, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Central Baptist Church of Odessa’s “Together We Can Grow” fund.

Eda Mae Sheperd
Odessa - Eda Mae Sheperd, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Home Hospice.
She was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Jacksonville, Texas, before moving to Pecos, Texas. There, she married
Aubrey Lee Sheperd on May 10, 1948. They had one child, Patricia Ann.
Eda worked for the Bell Phone Company until 1959 when she and Aubrey took their child and moved to Odessa. Eda worked for the Holiday Inn, which changed to Hospitality Lodge for the next 20 years.
Eda was preceded in death by Aubrey on April 8, 1999. They were one month shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Eda was also preceded in death by her parents; and one brother-in-law, Billy Brown.
Eda was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Auntie. Her proudest moments were when her two grandsons were born.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia and husband Dwight Mayo of Odessa; her grandson, John and wife Gwen Mayo of Lubbock; grandson, Jason and wife Christy Mayo of Odessa; two great-granddaughters, Brylee and Chloe Mayo of Lubbock. She is also survived by her sister, Inez and husband Paul Smith of San Angelo; two nieces, Melody Trimble, Kathy Chadwick and husband Mike Chadwick of San Angelo; two nephews, Bill Brown and wife Denise Brown of San Antonio and Steve Brown and wife Pam who are currently stationed with the Air Force in Korea. Eda also has twelve great nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church with pastor Jess Little officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to give special thanks to Home Hospice for the tender love given to Eda. Memorials may be sent to Home Hospice or Sunset Heights Baptist Church.

Dan H. Yandell
Odessa - Dan H. Yandell, age 85, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 31, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in North Africa and Italy. As a medic, he was awarded two Silver Stars for bravery and numerous other medals.
Dan was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved watching Dallas Cowboys football. He loved to tease and visit with family and friends. Dan was always known to all as a nice guy.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Yandell of Odessa; daughters, Lyn Brewer and husband Scott of Odessa, F. Joanne Miles and husband Philip of Odessa and Dana S. Beazley and husband Skip of Odessa; stepson, Allen Northcott and wife, Tammie of Anna, Texas; stepdaughter, Debra Evans of Beaumont, Texas; brother, Jim Yandell and wife Roberta of Spring, Texas; sister, Nettie Autry and husband Joe of Robert Lee, Texas; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A family visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2005, at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church in Odessa. Burial will be later that day in Tahoka cemetery in Tahoka, Texas.

Andrews - Charles Ray Brock Sr., 81, of Andrews, the retired owner and operator of Charles Brock Hot Oil Service, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews.
Graveside services were at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Andrews West cemetery with Mark Wilson officiating. Arrangements are by McNett Funeral Home.
He was born in Snyder. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He moved to Andrews in 1963 from Seminole. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
