Suzette Adelaida Gonzales
ODESSA - At the age of 12, Suzette Adelaida Gonzales, surrounded by her loving family, was called before the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday January 12, 2005, at University Medical Center Hospital in Lubbock.
She was born April 11, 1992, in Odessa, Texas, to Javier and Iris Gonzales. She was a Christian Baptist and a 6th-grader at Gonzales Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her Grandfathers, Guadalupe “Lupe” Salcido and Adam S. Gonzales Sr.
Suzette is survived by her parents, Javier and Iris Gonzales, both of Odessa; Grandmothers, Frances M. Gonzales, Susana “Susie” Salcido; Brothers, Jeremiah J. Gonzales and Javan E. Gonzales; and sister, Ilena M. Gonzales, all of Odessa; a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and lots of friends.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Sunday, January 16, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors and from 8 a.m. until noon Monday at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors (432) 368-7191 {4635 Oakwood Drive and Parkway}.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday January 17, 2005, at Temple Baptist Church (432) 337-3641 {1000 N. Texas and 10th St.} with Reverend. Hilario Fuentes officiating.
We, the family, are eternal grateful to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for allowing us these 12 beautiful years with Mija.

Richard Louis Hatfield
Odessa - Richard Louis Hatfield, 63, of Graham, Texas, formerly of Odessa, passed away January 14, 2005, at Hospice House.
Richard was born on February 2, 1941, to Louis and Pearl Hatfield in Wichita, Kansas. Richard moved to Odessa as a small child and attended Odessa schools until entering the Navy at 17 years of age. He completed college at Columbia College in Georgia.
Richard retired as Navy E9 Master Chief. He worked on gas pipelines and construction for numerous companies. Richard completed Waterline at West Side Possum Kingdom Lake and made many good friends in the process. He was also 32nd degree Mason, and Shriner.
Richard married
Mary Eloise on February 13, 1965, in Kingsland, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife Elosie Hatfield of Graham, Texas; sons, Rickey Hatfield and wife Daphanie, and Robbie Hatfield of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; daughters, Sherrie Edwards and husband Kenny and Cindy Pena; grandchildren, Lesley Hatfield, Heather and Richie Edwards, Erika, Erik, Eron Pena and Dusty; great-grandson, Kaiden; sisters, Saundra Hedger and husband Alpha and Pam Craig and husband Wallace; and brother, Jerry Hatfield and wife Tommie.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Military services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2005, in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, with Troy Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dewey Wallace Hulsey
Odessa - Dewey Wallace Hulsey, 74, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1930, in Midland, Texas, to Austin Hulsey and Dora Rich. He married
Martha Eaton in 1955, in Brownwood, Texas.
He worked as a custodian for Permian High School. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Resurrection Methodist Church and Ector County Democratic Party.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Lynne Hulsey.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Hulsey of Odessa; brother, Thurman Hulsey of Plummerville, Arkansas; nephews, Larry Dale Hulsey and wife Lisa of Odessa, Roger Hulsey and wife Susie of Odessa, Mike Hulsey and wife Anita of Norman, Oklahoma, James Edward Hulsey and wife Theresa of Brownwood, Mitchell Hulsey of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dewayne Fletcher and wife Ellen of Norman, Oklahoma; nieces, Christine Young and husband Steve of Plummerville, Arkansas, Rhonda Gale Aldridge and husband Larry of San Angelo, Dora Jean Lopez and husband Danny of Virginia.

Margaret ‘Peggy’ Lavers
Odessa - Born October 21, 1922, at home in Ranger, Texas, to James R. and Mary Etta Fogle.
Peggy and her older sister Dorothy lived with their grandmother Matilda Leedy after their mother died in 1928. In 1931, they were reunited with their father in Kermit, Texas. Peggy graduated from Kermit High School in 1941. She attended beauty school in Ft. Worth and worked in beauty shops in Ft. Worth and Kermit until her marriage to John George (Jay) Lavers in August, 1944.
After World War II, Peggy and Jay settled in Kermit where Peggy opened her own shop and worked until she became a full-time mom and homemaker in 1951. The family moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1953 and returned to Odessa, Texas, in 1957 where Peggy lived for the remainder of her life.
She worked briefly for Texas Instruments and as a substitute teacher’s aid. Peggy was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church and worked and helped in several departments throughout the years.
She loved God, her immediate and extended family, many friends, and all children. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends and she was always happy to see you. Peggy said her home was never too small for all who wanted to come. She was always a great example for her younger siblings whom she helped raise, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jay, brothers James R. Fogle Jr., Robert W. Fogle and George A. Fogle
She is survived by her sons David Michael Lavers, Isaac Bennett Lavers, John George Lavers, Jr.; daughter Melissa Fern Lavers; sisters Dorothy Thorpe, Shirley Wills; brothers John R. and Ralph L. Fogle; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Frank W. Wilson Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Warren ‘Jake’ Rhoads
Odessa - Warren “Jake” Rhoads, 81, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born November 18, 1923, in Osage County, Okla. He married
Mary P. Willis June 8, 1948, in Odessa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Jake was co-owner of Waddell & Blank. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Rotary Club, Permian Bass Club, Broncho Booster Club, Medical Center Board, Odessa Savings Board and the Board of Realtors.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester C. and Mary Rhoads; and brother, David L. Rhoads.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Rhoads of Odessa; son, Donnie Willis Rhoads of Odessa; daughter, Rhonda Sue Rhoads of Odessa; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with a Memorial Service to be held 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bailey Stone officiating.

Madolyn Dyer Tinsley
March 12, 1938 — January 8, 2005
WALHALLA, S.C. - Madolyn Dyer Tinsley, 66, of Walhalla, South Carolina, died January 8, 2005, at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, South Carolina.
Memorial services were held at the Walhalla Presbyterian Church; Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas, will be the place of her interment.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 12, 1938, Madolyn was the daughter of the late George B. and Fern W. Dyer of Odessa.
Mrs. Tinsley lived much of her life in West Texas, where she co-owned Tinsley & Tinsley Publications, producing Towns West magazine, TV Reports and Texas Outdoor Times. She owned Antiques, Etc. in Walhalla for 12 years.
Survivors include husband, Robert E. Tinsley of the home, son, Gregory E. Tinsley of West Point, Mississippi, and son, George R. Tinsley of Southampton, England.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Hospice House Building Fund, c/o Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29678.
Johnny Mack Smith
Odessa - Johnny Mack Smith, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005.
He will be sorely missed by his wife Mary and sons Jason and Jonathan.
John was born May 31, 1943, in San Fernando, Calif., to Rufus Jones “R.J.” Smith and Hazel May McFarland. He was welcomed to the family by his two sisters, Vasca and Janie and his twin brothers, Ronnie and Donnie. The family moved back to Odessa in 1947.
Johnny graduated in 1961 from Permian High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years. John left the Navy to pursue a lifelong dream of attaining a degree in Architectural Space Planning. He accomplished that goal in 1980, graduating from University of Texas of Arlington with a B.A. in Architecture.
Johnny and Mary Hooper were married
Dec. 29, 1969, in Santa Rosa, Calif. They were blessed with two sons, Jason and Jonathan. The family moved to Midland in 1982, where John began his career in Interior Design. In 1995, he retired because of health problems.
John is survived by his wife, Mary; and sons, Jason and Jonathan; his mother, Hazel Smith of Odessa; sisters, Vasca Beall and husband Michael of Weatherford and Janie Wilson and husband Jon of Edmond, Okla.; brother, Ronald J. Smith and wife Carole of Midland and Donald C. Smith and wife Lynn of Garland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Rhode and the staff of Midland Memorial Hospital for their care of John.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home.

Zonie Fowler
Odessa - Zonie Fowler, 76, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Mr. Fowler was born June 7, 1928, in Tallahassee, Okla., to father, Zonie C. Fowler Sr. and mother, Dioma Bruce Fowler, whom both preceded him in death. Mr. Fowler was an Air Force veteran.
Services will be held today, Jan. 15, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Walker Chapel with Elder James Porter officiating. Military graveside services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Lurline Fowler of Odessa; sons, Elbert Dwayne Fowler of Midland and James Edward Fowler of Odessa; daughters, Linda K. Kirk Randel Hill
Odessa - Kirk Hill, age 39, was born December 17, 1965, in Odessa and went to be with his Lord January 13, 2005. Kirk attended Odessa, Texas schools and graduated from Permian High School in 1984. He attended The University of Texas at Arlington and received a degree in electrical engineering in 1992.
He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and nephew and his memory will be cherished by his parents, Kenn and Sandra Hill; a sister, Sheri Boley and a niece and nephew, Brandi and Jeremy Boley. Additionally, he is survived by two uncles, Jerry Barton and Tom Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Christian Church located at 6th and Lincoln.

Nellie J. ‘Jackie’ Rogers
Odessa - Nellie J. “Jackie” Rogers, 87, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at the Sienna Care Center. She was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Mount Pleasant. She moved to Odessa in 1947 from White Oak.
Jackie was a faithful member of Sherwood Church of Christ for 47 years. She taught 4- & 5-year-olds Bible Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Rogers and daughter Sandy Duzan.
She is survived by her sons, Royce Rogers and wife, Sue, of Weatherford, Ronny Rogers and wife, Carol, of Gardendale and Sam Rogers Jr. of Decatur; daughters, Ruth Buchanan of Odessa, Glenda Weaver and husband, Curtis, of Greenwood, Ark. and Peggy Odom and husband, Virgil, of Pinehurst; brother, Sam Counts of Queen City; sisters, Della Robertson of Austin and Annie Jo Counts of Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. today at Sherwood Church of Christ with John Hadley officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Hugh R. Sloan
Midland - Hugh R. Sloan, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 in Bedford.
Hugh was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Petersburg. He joined the Navy as a Seabee on Oct. 18, 1942, and was discharged on Dec. 9, 1945. He served in the Aleutians Islands, Saipan, Marianas Islands and Nagasaki, Japan.
He spent most of his life in Midland and retired from Getty Oil in 1977. He moved to Bedford in June 2003. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters and his first wife, Billie Sloan.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary E. Sloan; son, Gene R. Sloan and wife, Renu of Euless; two grandchildren, Tania Nikol Sloan of Euless, and Jeven R. Sloan and wife, Michelle, of Arlington; two great-granddaughters who were the joy of his life, Sophie Marie Sloan and Ruby Nicole Sloan, both of Arlington; stepsons, Gary N. Russell and wife, Pat, of Durango, Colo.; James A. Russell of Nipton, Calif.; brother, Clarence W. Sloan of Midland; sister, Edna Sloan of Dallas; and numerous loving nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
