Alpine - Luciano “Sukie” Ramirez, a custodian and shoe shiner, 71, of Alpine, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at a local area nursing home.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will be at Holy Angels cemetery.

Troup - Burtis M. Welch, 92, of Arp, a retired industrial machinist, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at a Tyler hospice.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Cottle Funeral Home Chapel in Troup with the Revs. James Welch and Mike Rice officiating. Burial was in the Henry’s Chapel cemetery, near Troup. Arrangements are by Cottle Funeral Home Chapel.
He was born in Rusk County. He was. He was a member and the oldest deacon of the First Baptist Church of Arp. He was a Navy veteran.

ODESSA - Llewellyn R. Burge, 88, of Johnson City, N.Y., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Hospice House.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. tonight.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, also in Midland, with the Rev. Billy Everette officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home.

Leila Irene Gay
CLARKSVILLE, ARK. - Leila Irene Gay, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at the Clarksville Convalescent Home.
Services were held at Harmony Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jimmy Thames officiating. Burial was in Woodland cemetery on Woodland Road in Johnson County. Arrangements were by Hardwicke Funeral Home.
She was born in Comanche, Texas.

David Dwain Creekmore
Odessa - Davie Dwain Creekmore, 37, long-time resident of Odessa, passed from this earth Feb. 18, 2005, after a brief, but valiant, battle with cancer.
David was born July 10, 1967, in Tulsa, Okla., to Dwain and Delores Creekmore. He was raised in Odessa and attended Ector County schools. He met and married
Audrea Marie Davis, his childhood sweetheart. During their marriage of 18 years, David and Audrea had three sons, Derrik Dwain, age 14, Tyler Gene, age 12, and Seth Ryan, age 4, who all were the light of their father’s life.
David was a devoted husband and father, whose greatest joy was to spend time with his wife and boys. He loved the outdoors and watching the things grow that he planted and nurtured. David enjoyed riding four-wheelers with his boys and barbecuing for the family. David proudly served in the United States Navy. After serving his country, he returned home to Ector County to serve in the area of public safety, as a jailer and patrol deputy in the Sheriff’s Office for over four years. David had been employed with Baker Oil Tools for the past five years, in a job that he thoroughly enjoyed. His family greatly appreciated the support and kindness shown by his supervisors at Baker Oil Tools during the last two months when David was so critically ill.
David was preceded in death by his father, Dwain Creekmore; and his sister, Lori Creekmore, both were of Odessa.
He is survived by his wife, Audrea Creekmore of Odessa; sons, Derrik Dwain, Tyler Gene and Seth Ryan, all of Odessa; mother and step-father, Delores and John “Red” Hennech of Odessa; brother, Jimmy Tackett of Houston; and sister, Debbie Clay of Odessa; as well as many aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; and nephews.
David was well-loved by family and friends who recognized his good heart and caring ways. He was a kind and gentle-natured person who will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the Sixth & Jackson Church of Christ with Roy Smalling officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Vernon Dolloff
Seminole - Vernon Dolloff, 67, passed away on Feb. 18, 2005.
He is survived by his two children, Gary Dolloff of Odessa, and Vicki Dolloff of Kaufman; one grandchild, Heather Dolloff of Odessa; one brother, Clyde Dolloff of Seminole; two sisters, Bobby Lynn Waddell of Brownfield, and Clara Pearl Robinson of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many, many friends.

Odessa - Helen Duckworth, 86, of Odessa, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Hospice House of Odessa.

Marvin Duckworth Oct. 2, 1948, in Durant, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1999. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.
She is survived by her six sons, George Duckworth of Las Cruces, N. M., Ronald Dillman of Praque, Okla., Robert Duckworth and wife, Rena, of Altus, Okla., David Duckworth and wife, Laura, of Odessa, Jim Dillman and wife, Mary, of Hobbs, N. M., and Tom Duckworth and wife, Olivia, of Odessa; three sisters, Addie Belle Watson, and Kathleen Gibson, both of Durant, Okla., and Clara Petty, of Prairie Village, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.

Carmen Jones
Marfa - Carmen Jones, 82, of Marfa, passed away Feb. 14, 2005, in Tuczon, Ariz.
She was born on July 13, 1922, in Marfa, to Felicitas Barranday and Francisco Chavira.
She is survived by her daughters, Cruzita Lara and husband, Leopoldo Sr., of Tucson, Ariz., Ida M. Barrera of Odessa, and Patricia Chavez and husband, Arnold, of Silver City, N.M.; two brothers, Francisco Chavira Jr. and wife, Gloria, of El Paso, and Macario Chavira of Marfa; grandsons, Johnny and Enya Lara of Odessa, Leopold and Lori Lara Jr. and David and Sherry Lara, both of Tucson, Ariz., Greg and Carmen Gonzales of Katy, and Jared Diaz of Deming, N.M.; granddaughters, Corina and Stephen Robbins of Houston, and Deanne and Emilio Levario and Monica Gonzales, both of Odessa; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa.
God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be; so he put his arms around her and whispered “come with me.” With tearful eyes as we watched her fade away; although we love her dearly he would not let her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands are at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.
Christine Martin Shoemate
Monahans - Christine Martin Shoemate, 79, of Monahans, passed away Feb. 18, 2005, in Lubbock.
Christine was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Denton, to Walter Lee and Cora Lee Martin. She was a resident of Monahans and Wickett for the past 38 years. She moved to Midland with her family in 1929 where she spent the rest of her childhood years and early adult years. She met her husband in Midland and they were married
in Graham, Texas on Feb. 3, 1946. They were married
for 54 years. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Monahans.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at the First Baptist Church of Wickett with the Rev. Larry Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
Christine is Preceded in Death by her parents, Walter Lee and Cora Lee Martin; husband, R.E. “Ranny” Shoemate; and son, Ray Paul Shoemate.
Christine’s survivors include her son, Richard Lee Shoemate and wife, Willie, of Lubbock; her sister, Jewel Cook and husband, Mack, of Mansfield; her grandchildren, Richard Douglas and wife, Lori, of Colorado City, Kristi Shoemate Banyai and husband, Christopher, of Watkinsville, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Madison Allyse Shoemate of Colorado City, Louise Abigail Banyai of Watkinsville, Ga.; niece, Shelia Freeman of Longview; nephew, Connie Mack Jr. of Mansfield; and numerous nieces; nephews; and cousins of the Shoemate family.

Steven Anthony Sotelo
Odessa - Steven Anthony Sotelo, age 30, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at his residence in Odessa.
He was born Dec. 4, 1973, in Odessa to parents, Chon Sotelo and Joelda Acosta.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. today and Monday at Martinez Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Uecker officiating. Interment will follow at the Ector County cemetery in the Rose Hill section.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Eufracia M. Villa; grandfather, Alberto M. Villa; grandmother, Mariana M. Sotelo; grandfather, Jose G. Sotelo; and his aunt, Frances Villa.
Survivors include his father, Chon Sotelo of Odessa; mother, Joelda Acosta and husband, Robert, of Odessa; brothers, Shannon A. Sotelo and Tommy Sotelo, both of Odessa; son, Steven A. Sotelo Jr. of Austin; and daughter, Melinda Salazar of Odessa.

Winifred Mann Suckling
Odessa - Winifred Mann Suckling, of Odessa, was born Feb. 15, 1923, and left this world Friday, Feb. 18, 2005.
Winifred was born in Ranger, Texas, to William Fred Mann and Bertie Miller Mann. She spent her early years moving all over the oilfields of Texas and New Mexico, before her family finally settled in Odessa in 1939. She was a 1941 graduate of Odessa High School.
On March 17, 1942, she met her sweetie, Herbert Clark Suckling, who was an airman stationed at Terminal, Texas. They were married
in California on Oct. 23, 1945.
Winifred was a member of Belmont Baptist Church, who loved to be involved in any way she could be. She was a retired secretary who loved to garden and collect antiques.
Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Herb Suckling; daughter, Sally Suckling; granddaughter, Chloe Suckling; brother Ed Mann of Farmington, N.M.; nieces, Cathy Lybrook, Judi Mann and Becky Retherford, all of Farmington, N.M., and Traci Mann of New York; and many other loved ones.
There will be a celebration of her life Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Belmont Baptist Church with G.A. Magee officiating.

Kermit - James Paul Bewley, 84, of Kermit, a retired manager of Wacker’s Department Store, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, in Midland.
