Clarence P. Foss
Casa Grande, Ariz. - At 4:45 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, Clarence Peter Foss passed away peacefully at his residence with this children at his side. He was 90 years old.
Clarence was born April 29, 1915, in Lawton, N.D. He was the third of 10 children born to Norwegian immigrants Peter and Anna Foss. Clarence grew up in the farmland of North Dakota and eastern Montana. In 1939, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.
During World War II, Clarence served with the 7th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre. Most notably, he participated in the retaking of the Philippines and the battle of Okinawa. He was honorably discharged October 2, 1945, with the rank of Master Sargent.
In 1949, Clarence married
the love of his life, Pauline White Day. They had two children: a daughter, Cheryl, and son, Dale. During the 1950s, Clarence worked as a driller in the oilfields of the Rocky Mountain states. In 1959, the family moved to Alaska, where Clarence and Pauline established a water well contracting firm, Foss Drilling. Clarence was a charter member of the Alaska Water Well Drilling Association and served as an officer and on the board of directors. In 1988, Clarence and Pauline retired and moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where they lived until 1997. In search of warmer weather, they moved to Arizona City, Arizona, to spend the remainder of their days.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Pauline; his parents, Peter and Anna Foss; brother, Harvey Foss; and sisters, Evelyn Foss, Myrtle Omang and Florence Grove.
He is survived by daughter, Cheryl and husband Ron Roberts of Rankin, Texas; son, Dale Foss and Marietta Fowler of Oro Valley, Arizona; brothers, Arthur “Swede” Foss of Kenai, Alaska, and Earl Foss of Great Falls, Montana; sisters, Leah Miller of Lolo, Montana, Harriett Broadbrooks of Malta, Montana, and Ann Moran of Absarokee, Montana; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Clarence was a wonderful husband and father and his quick wit, ready smile and big laugh will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Simes Mortuaries, Casa Grande Chapel in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at National Memorial cemetery in Phoenix.
Larry Paul Grubb
Midland - Former Midlander, Larry Paul Grubb, of Fremont, Michigan, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2005.
He was born January 27, 1950, to Odell Pierce Grubb and Pauline Kennedy Grubb in Midland, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1976. Larry was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landman and the Michigan Oil and Gas Association.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 11, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Midland, Texas.

Margaret N. Surratt
Dallas - Margaret Irma Nash Surratt passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2005, in Dallas.
She was born Sept. 16, 1923 in DeQueen, Arkansas, to Edmund Marcus Nash and Atha Alberta Johnston Nash. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1941 and served as reporter for The Odessa American for her class on the Honor Tour that summer. She was a 1946 graduate of East Texas Baptist College, now East Texas Baptist University. Subsequently, she served as executive secretary at Texas Bank & Trust Co. of Dallas. On Dec. 6, 1952, she married
Marshall E. Surratt of Dallas, and lived in Midland with her husband and family for many years. In 2002, they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. She was baptized in the First Baptist Church, Gladewater. Over her life, she faithfully served in the churches of which she was a member. She was also a devoted wife and mother and was selfless in assisting friends and neighbors.
She is survived by — besides her husband — a brother, Robert H. Nash and wife, Peggy, of Midland; a son, Marshall N. Surratt and wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Jean S. Humphreys and husband, John; and grandchildren, Lauren, Jordan and Josh Humphreys and Stefan and Simone Surratt.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 11, in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church in Dallas, followed by a reception in Behr Hall at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National cemetery.

Floyd Jack Ball
Odessa - Floyd Jack Ball, 82, of Odessa, went home to his eternal Father March 29, 2005.
He was born April 2, 1922, to Wiley and Ella Ball in Grayson, Colo. He married
Dorothy Mae Rich on Feb. 19, 1944, in Spur. The couple had two children Edgar Wiley Ball and Nelda Kay Scott.
Floyd enlisted in the Army Air Force Oct. 14, 1942, and served his country with great pride until Feb. 4, 1946, when he was discharged as a sergeant. Upon completion of his military service, Floyd was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company. He worked as a mechanic for 28 years.
Floyd’s retirement years were some of his most enjoyable. He had a great passion for fishing and spent countless hours pursuing this pastime. He also developed a great talent for wood working and filled the homes of those he loved with numerous treasures.
Floyd is rejoicing in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and also his wife, Dorothy; and his daughter, Nelda.
Floyd is survived by his son, Edgar Ball of Clarkdale, Ariz.; son-in-law, Terry Scott of Odessa; granddaughters, Cristy Batte and husband, Blake, and Kelly Weaver and husband, Dan, both of Odessa. He cherished his four great-grandchildren, Alix and Abby Batte and Nikita and Nate Weaver. He is also survived by a host of friends and family too numerous to count.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Troy Stevenson officiating.

Janice Louise Crumpley
Odessa - Janice Louise Crumpley, 59, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2005, in Del Rio.
She was born Oct. 3, 1945, in Mangum, Okla., to Dewey and Nina Pauline Morgan. She was a secretary for an Insurance Co. and Church Of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers, Jim, Franky Gene, Donald, J. P. and Junior Morgan; and sister, Anita Stovall.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert Crumpley of Odessa; sons, Tim Crumpley and Randy Crumpley and wife, Lydia, both of Odessa; brother, Ken Morgan of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Wanda Hager of Odessa; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Morgan Crumpley; and longtime best friend, Juanita Warren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Granite cemetery in Granite, Okla.

Dewaine Gene Cunningham
Odessa - Dewaine Gene Cunningham, 62, of Gardendale, passed away Monday, March 28, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1942, in Monahans to Forest and Peggy Cunningham. Dewaine was an active member of the Permian Basin Bicycle Club. He participated in many charities to raise money for the community. He was an oilfield welder for over 35 years for the Permian Basin. He loved his golf, bicycle riding and spending time with his family. He always thought of others first. His family considered him to be the best handyman because he could do anything. We’re going to miss him dearly. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Papa and Son.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Cunningham of Gardendale; son, Dewaine Gene Cunningham Jr. of Odessa; daughters, Debra Kindel of Odessa, and Melinda McDowell of Gardendale; mother, Peggy Cunningham of Gardendale; brother, Michael Cunningham of Odessa; sister, Karen Schoonover of Petal, Miss.; and five grandchildren, Niki, Paige, Haley and Taylor Kindel and Westin Cunningham.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Southern Baptist Church of Gardendale. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Willie Othell Mendoza
Odessa - Willie Othell Mendoza, 86, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Avalon Place in Odessa.
She was born Aug. 11, 1918, to Homer E. and Birdie Mae Ross in Comanche County. She married
Jerry McCloskey, who preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1954, while he was serving in the Korean War. She was a civil servant; working for Fort Sam Houston for 28 years. She retired to El Paso in 1971, when she married
A.A. Mendoza. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in El Paso.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Jerry McClosky and A.A. Mendoza April 6, 2002; a brother; and a sister.
Survivors include her brother, Jack Fields Ross of Comanche; sister, Bobbie Joyce Reed of Odessa; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Teusday, March 29, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Stroud officiating.

Jimmy Kenneth Ludewell II
ODESSA - Jimmy Kenneth Ludewell passed from this world on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Jim was born to Jimmy and Wanda Ludewell on Feb. 17, 1963, in Hobbs, N.M. He attended Hobbs schools and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1981. He had lived in Odessa for about 10 years.
Jim was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa where he enjoyed listening to the sermons and meeting people.
Jim never met a stranger, and a stranger never met Jim.
He made friends with everyone he met and was a jokester who loved his friends and family.
Jim remained close his whole life with his cousins and boyhood friends.
Jim is survived by his parents, both of Odessa; his brother, Scott Ludewell of Odessa; his sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Kit Dennis of Odessa.
Jim was also much beloved and will be greatly missed by his nephew and niece, Zac Dennis and Casey Dennis, both of Odessa.
He is also survived by aunts, uncles and countless cousins and friends.
Jim’s family thanks the caregivers of Hospice House for their loving support and care.
Jim will be forever missed by his family. The family will hold visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Jimmie ‘Jim’ L. Rose
Fort Davis - Jimmie “Jim” L. Rose, 60, of Fort Davis and formerly of Midland, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Hospice Midland Inpatient Unit of Midland Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Davis with the Revs. Ernie Vinyard and Bob Kelley, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Marfa, officiating.
Jim was born Nov. 27, 1944, in Monahans to Odell and Ruth (Dorsey) Rose. He married
Ellen Vie Cross on April 7, 1990, in Marfa. He was a 1963 graduate of Permian High School. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy. He lived in Midland for many years and had worked for Union Oil of California for over 30 years. Jim was a former member of the Permian Basin Landman’s Association. Astronomy was his passion. He had his own observatory, and after moving to Fort Davis, upon his retirement, he helped others in building their own observatories. Jim had also volunteered his time at the McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Vie of Fort Davis; his daughter, Allison Rose of Midland; and his two granddaughters, Natalie and Katy. He is further survived by a brother, Richard Rose and his wife, Jan, of Midland and their daughter Lindsey Rose, and a sister, Patsy Rose of Muenster.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Estil Petty
Big Spring - Estil Petty, 84, of Sand Springs, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Elwin Collom, with Home Hospice officiating.
He was born March 24, 1921, in Loraine and married
Wanda Beauchamp Sept. 24, 1950, in Big Spring. Estil worked as maintenance technician for Cabot Corporation, retiring in 1975 after 25 years of service. He loved fishing, car racing and raising Boston Terriers. He enjoyed gardening and shelling pecans. He was a Baptist and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Beauchamp Petty of Sand Springs; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Freddy Petty and Joel and Rhonda Petty, all of Sanger; one daughter, Brenda Petty Felber of Arlington; six grandchildren, Bruce Petty, Lauren Petty, Joanna Petty, Clint Petty, Chad Ober and Kelly Ober Evans and husband, Sean; seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Knox, Jude, Colton, Haylee, Ashley and Jayden; one sister-in-law, Eileen Beauchamp Boen of Odessa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister; and two brothers.
The family suggests memorials be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Tommy Earnest Anderson
Monahans - Tommy Earnest Anderson, 90, of Monahans, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Hospice House.
He was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Eastland to Pearl (Roberson) and William Anderson. He married
Helen Mae Dotson on Dec. 22, 1936, in McCamey. He was the owner of Anderson Roustabout Service.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Mae Anderson of Monahans; five children, Mary (Anderson) Green of Midland, and family, Keri Brown and son, Eric of Seattle, Wash., Lauri Hinton and husband, Paul, and daughters, Erin of Port Nueces, Jana Menchacha and husband, John, their daughter, Reilly; and son Trey of Austin; Tommy D. Anderson and wife, MyrtleAnn, of Monahans, and family: Tommy C. Anderson and wife, Lou Ann, of Horseshoe Bay, Kristopher Anderson and wife, Angie, of Mesa, Ariz.; Steven Anderson, and family: Scott Anderson and wife, Annie; son, Taylor of Midland; son, Austin of California, Lauri Marie Anderson of Midland; Terry Anderson of Abilene; Linda (Anderson) Marcum and husband, Bradley, of Greenville; and family: Ryan Marcum, Adam Marcum and Logan Marcum, all of Greenville. Paul McCubbin
Odessa - Paul McCubbin, 50, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 15, 1954, in Fairfax, Okla., to Paul Sherman and Ida McCubbin. He was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ida McCubbin; and sister, Ruby Lewallen.
Mr. McCubbin is survived by his wife, Della McCubbin of Odessa; stepson, Devin Cummings of Odessa; brothers, Ray McCubbin of Dardenalle, Ark., Danny McCubbin of Odessa, and Jimmie Dale McCubbin of Sabatha, Kan.; sister, Pauline Hollowell of Odessa; four grandchildren, Brittany, Austen, Kiana and Jordan, all of Odessa; and many nephews and nieces.

Truman Mize
Odessa - Truman Mize, 88, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, in Odessa.
He was born May 2, 1916, in Randolph County, Ala. He married
Norma Cleone Everett July 24, 1938, in Colorado City. Truman worked at Electric Service and Supply in Odessa for 32 years.
Truman is survived by his wife, Norma of Odessa; son, Bob Mize of Lubbock; sister, May Bassinger of Lubbock; brother, Ray Mize of Big Spring; two grandchildren, Charles Mize and LeAnn Holley; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremy Mize, and Cody and Taylor Holley.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
