Jo H. Price
Odessa - Jo Veda Henderson Price, 78, of Odessa, passed away early Monday morning, March 21, 2005, at her residence, after an intense battle with cancer.
She was born to Leonard Henderson and Sadie Cowan Feb. 2, 1927, in Brekenridge. In 1929, they moved to Crane, where she graduated high school, and they were among the first families to settle into new homes in the original Gulf camp, which is south of Crane.
She had a beautiful singing voice, which she used for entertaining. In the mid-1940s, she belonged to a singing trio that would sing in the Midland and Odessa area to entertain various men serving in World War II and other organizations, upon request.
In 1947, she moved to Chicago, Ill., to be close to her oldest sister, Myrl. While living in Chicago, she met her lifelong companion, George M. Price Jr., who was a student at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill. They married
Jan. 21, 1949, and eventually had five children. Shortly after their marriage, she and her husband moved to New Orleans, so she could emotionally support her husband as he finished his degree business from Tulane University. They moved back to the Chicago Heights area to be close to her sister, begin their family, and eventually start their first family business.
She was a retired bookkeeper and co-owner of several family businesses, including GEM Car Wash, Budget Rent-A-Car and U-Haul.
In 1981, she and her family moved to Odessa, where she finished her time here on Earth, before going home to our Father in heaven.
At one time, she served as president of the Odessa Newcomers and was a member of the Women of Moose Lodge. She loved to play bridge and, as a result, was a longtime life master in the American Contract Bridge League. She was also an avid poker player.
She was known as being a very kind-hearted, loving person, who put others before herself. She was very supportive of her husband, five children, sisters, grandsons, other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, Leonard and Sadie Henderson of Crane; daughter, Linda J. Owen of Amarillo; brother, Curtis Henderson of Crane; and sister, Cleo Adair of Brenhan.
She is survived by her husband, George M. Price Jr. of Odessa; sons, George Price III of Cicero, Ill., Charles L. Price of Austin, and John J. Price of Livingston; daughter, Anne L. Simmons of Odessa; brother, Billy Henderson of Odessa, sisters, Myrl Hucker of Midland and Betty Fernandez of Odessa. She has 10 grandsons; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday, March 21, at Odessa Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Ward, of Austin.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Odyssey Health Care.

Bonnie Dale Meegan
ODESSA - Bonnie Dale Meegan, 54, of Odessa, passed from this life Saturday, March 26, 2005, after a brief illness.
Bonnie was born on April 10, 1950, in Odessa to N.H. and Mary Pearl Lake. She graduated from high school in Cortez, Colo. Bonnie attended Denver University, the University of Colorado, and earned her degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. She earned a master’s degree in education from Abilene Christian University. Bonnie was an elementary schoolteacher for 19 years in Cortez, Colo., and Midland. She retired from teaching after she married
Joe Meegan May 23, 2000.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, N.H. Lake; her mother, Mary Pearl Lake; and a nephew, Michael Goldsmith.
She is survived by a son, Casey Durant and wife, Shayla, of Midland; son, Cody Durant and wife, Julia, of Phoenix; husband, Joe Meegan of Odessa; grandson, Nathan Durant; granddaughter, Ivy Durant; brother, James Goldsmith and wife, Jemmie Ray, of Odessa; sister, Peggy Johnson of Leveland; and a sister, Gertie Mills of Pampa.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Frank Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to Home Hospice of Odessa.

Shelline Shelton
Granbury - Shelline Shelton, 57, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Glen Rose.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Eastridge Church. Burial will be at Acton cemetery.
Mrs. Shelton was born Nov. 22, 1947, in Ranger. She taught school in the Granbury I.S.D. and was a member of the Rhema Bible Church in Broken Arrow, Okla.
Mrs. Shelton’s survivors are her daughter, Erin Menchaca of Granbury; her sisters, Sherri Stanfield and husband, Ron, of Granbury, and Sheila Ramsey of Austin; her brother, George Shelton and wife, Kay, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and nieces and nephews.

Herschel Woodrow ‘Woody’ McClurg
Midland - Herschel Woodrow “Woody” McClurg, of Midland, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005.
He was born July 26, 1916, to Charles Willard and Emma Gidden McClurg on his parent’s farm near Greenville. He was raised in Greenville and moved to Midland, while still in high school, where he lived with the Midkiff family. He graduated from Midland High School in 1935. He married
Bonnie Lou Weaver Oct. 2, 1937, in Rockwall. He worked in Midland and in Corpus Christi, before entering the Army in 1944 and completed basic training at Camp Fannin. After an honorable discharge in 1945, he moved to Odessa and in 1947 opened McClurg Grocery and Market, which later became McClurg Food Store on West County Road. He operated the store for 23 years. For a while, he ranched in Llano. He purchased Odessa Beef, which he operated for 4 years. He then became a salesman for SnapOn Tools and worked the Permian Basin for four years. He founded McClurg Auto Parts in Snyder with his son, Tooter, from which he retired in 1990 and returned to Midland. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was an early president of the Permian Bass Club in Odessa. He loved the horse races in Ruidoso, N.M., and was a member of the Ruidoso Jockey Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; and his sons, Donald L. McClurg and wife, JoAnne, of Midland, and Charles “Tooter” McClurg and wife, Patti, of Snyder; and his grandchildren, Lee Anne McClurg of Lewisville, Bill McClurg of Fort Worth, Carl McClurg of Midland, and Cody McClurg of Snyder; one great-grandson, Cole; and two sisters, Leta McClurg McGuire and Dorothy McClurg Morris, both of Dallas.
Funeral services have been scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway. Midland, (432) 683-5555.

Charles A. ‘Tom’ Chapin
ODESSA - Charles A. “Tom” Chapin, age 92, of Odessa, Texas, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa.
He was born in Ulysses, Neb., and lived in El Paso, Texas, from the 1930s until five and a half years ago when he came to Odessa to live with his daughter, Michelle Stallings.
He was a member of the Catholic Community of Corpus Christi, El Paso, Texas.
He retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad, where he was employed as a switchman for 38 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945, participating in the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the Philippine Liberation.
He was a 45-year member of the El Paso BPOE, where he served as an Exalted Ruler and District Deputy, The American Legion Post 36, VFW Post 812, The United Transportation Union, the 36th Division Association and PUFL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight sisters and brothers; and his wife, Georgia Faye Chapin.
He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Stallings of Odessa, Texas, and Elizabeth Smith and husband J.E. “Buddy” of Bountiful, Utah; grandchildren, Michael Stallings and wife Kellie, Robert Stallings and wife Louise, Rhonda Lyssy and husband Steve, Al Smith and wife Robyn, Russ Smith and Linda Jo Neff and husband Pete; great-grandchildren, Josh and Keenan Stallings, Spencer Lyssy, Josh, Justin and Brian Smith and Austin and Jessica Neff; two special nieces, Shirley Ann Hewitt and Patricia Griffin; and friend Socorro Rojas.
In honoring his request, there were no services. His remains were interred with his wife, Georgia, at the Fort Bliss National cemetery in El Paso, Texas.

MONAHANS - James Houston Harkey, 71, of Monahans, a retired tool pusher for Parker Drilling Company, died Friday, April 15, 2005, in Amarillo, Texas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
He was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Carlsbad, N.M.
He is survived by son, Dan Harkey; nephews, Henry McIntyre, Charlie McIntyre, George McIntyre, Delmon Harkey, Wendell Harkey, Jackie Harkey and Jim Harkey; nieces, Maudie McIntyre Salmon, Susan Harkey Dunn, Mary Harkey and Darla Harkey Presley; two sisters-in-law, Bessie Harkey Locker and Evelyn Harkey Peden; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by son, Joe Harkey; parents, Jim Harkey and Maudie Sumrall Harkey; brothers, Leigh Harkey, Jeff Harkey, Claude Harkey and Delmon Harkey; and sister, Kennie Harkey McIntyre.

Emiliano R. ‘Papa’ Lopez
ODESSA - Emiliano R. “Papa” Lopez, 71, joined his Creator on Thursday, April 14, 2005.
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather loved God, life, happiness and making people laugh.
Known as “Lupe” to his friends, he was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Edcouch, Texas. He lived in Welch, Texas, where he worked as a farm laborer for 18 years, then moved with his family to Odessa in 1983. He was a custodian with Odessa College until his retirement in 2000.
His son, Jorge Lopez, precedes him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Blandina A Lopez of Odessa; daughters, Gloria L. Nunez and husband Julian of Andrews, Reyna Barrera of Odessa and Terri L. Hernandez and husband Roland of Lubbock; sons, Emiliano Lopez Jr. and wife Elsa of San Antonio, Victor Lopez of Odessa and Frank Leos and wife Rita of Odessa; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at RoseHill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Nunez, Ricky Hernandez, Jonathan Barrera, Jaime Nunez, Bobby Hernandez and Mikael Lopez. Honorary pallbearer is Gabriel Nunez.

Manuel Sotelo (Chiva) Marmolejo Sr.
MIDLAND - Manuel Sotelo (Chiva) Marmolejo Sr. passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at a local hospital.
Manuel was born Nov. 16, 1940, in Midland, to Juan De Dios and Augustina Marmolejo. He worked as a bricklayer and concrete finisher as an independent contractor.
Manuel enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with his family and friends. He was very loving and caring to his family and to all who knew him. He was a member of Our Lady of San Juan Catholic Church.
Manuel was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Gamboa and Guadalupe Marmolejo.
A rosary was said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at the Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2005, at Our Lady of San Juan Catholic Church.
Manuel Marmolejo is survived by two sons, Manuel Marmolejo Jr. and Johnny Marmolejo, both of Midland; three daughters, Sylvia Mancha and Melissa Gutierrez, both of Midland, and Francis Vara of El Paso; three sisters, Adela Salgado of Odessa, and Olivia Lujan and Mary Pena, both of Midland; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Marmolejo III, Johnny Marmolejo Jr., George Magallanes Jr., Orlando Magallanes, Andrew Salgado, Ray Salgado, Mark Rodriquez and Louis Villa.

Gaza Seabolt
FLORA VISTA, N.M. - Gaza Seabolt, loving husband, father and grandfather, went to his Heavenly home Thursday, April 14, 2005.
He passed away at his home in Flora Vista, N.M., with his family at his side.
Gaza was born in Big Spring. He graduated from Kermit High School in 1970. He was married
to his high school sweetheart, Brenda, for 34 years.
Gaza worked in the oil and gas business in West Texas before moving in 1991 to Flora Vista. He retired from Burlington Resources in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; sons, Justin of Grand Junction, Colo., and Elmo and wife Chance of Bloomfield, N.M.; two granddaughters, Shay of Bayfield, Colo., and Denym of Bloomfield, N.M. He also has two aunts, Gretta Hill of San Angelo and Lynn Sasser of Howe. He also has many cousins in Texas.
Gaza was preceded in death by his mother, Glorabell Lewis; sister, Rebecca; and brothers, Houston and Joe Seabolt.
Gaza loved fishing with his buddies, riding his Harley, working on his VWs and being with his granddaughters. The family asks that his friends remember him in their own way.
