Odessa - A memorial service for Velma Kinney will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Eisenhower Church of Christ, 807 E. 21st St.
Mrs. Kinney went to be with her Lord and her family Friday, May 13, 2005. She was born in Ranger on April 7, 1910.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kinney; son, Billy Kinney of Odessa; and daughter, Novalee McGhee of Quanah.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Kinney of Florida; two daughters, Peggy Montain and Patricia Elam, both of Bryan; 23 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Maria Jimenez Prieto
Odessa - Maria Jimenez Prieto left to join her Creator Tuesday, May 17, 2005.
She was born July 10, 1921, in Sanderson to Genaro Jimenez and Juanita Segura Jimenez. She was married
to Raul Jimenez Prieto for 56 years. She was the proud mother of her three children: Raul Jr., Ruben Sr. and Richard.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Miller Officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her father, Genaro Jimenez; her mother, Juanita Segura Jimenez; her sister, Maria Estella Chavez; her brothers, Ramon Jimenez, Chrispin Jimenez, Alfredo Jimenez, Manuel Jimenez and Jesus Jimenez.
She is survived by her husband, Raul Prieto Sr.; sons, Raul Prieto Jr., Ruben Prieto Sr. and wife, Eustolia Hernandez Prieto, and Richard Prieto; her brothers, Genaro Jimenez Sr. and wife, Rita Jimenez, and Frederico Jimenez and wife, Arsenia Jimenez; three grandchildren, Jeff Prieto and wife, Erica Prieto, Kristel Prieto and Ruben Prieto Jr. and wife, Gloria; and six great-grandchildren, Chris Martinez, Anna Martinez, Jaclyn Cruz, Elisa Prieto, Marc Anthony Prieto and Isabella Bolton.

Curtis Schrock
Odessa - Curtis Schrock, 70, of Odessa, passed away May 16, 2005.
He was born on April 14, 1935, to Curtis and Bessie Armfield Schrock in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Curtis was raised and educated in Louisiana and Arkansas, before moving to Texas in 1957. On December 12, 1955, he married
Reba Harper in Greenville, Mississippi. Curtis was the owner of Odessa Plumbing for over 40 years, as well as chairman of the Plumbing Board for 20 years. He was also an avid member of the Lion’s Club and enjoyed being a private pilot.
Curtis is survived by wife, Reba Schrock; daughter, Pamela Schrock; son, Curt Schrock and wife, Janet, of Odessa; sisters, Martha ‘Sis’ and Hayle Clark; grandchildren, Daniel Linley, Bethany Linley, Brandi Schrock and Nicky Schrock, all of Odessa, Phillip Clark and wife, Tia, of Andrews, Texas, Shelly Simmons and husband, Billy, of Quialian, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are pending with Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove, Louisiana.
Marvin Cecil Abbott
ODESSA - Marvin Cecil Abbott was born April 15, 1927, in Britton, Okla., to Fred and Essey Abbott. Mr. Abbott, 77, passed away Nov. 9, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Cecil, also known as “Abb, ” lived in Odessa over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. In 1985, he retired from Phillips Pipeline after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Cecil was a kind man who put others above his own wants. He enjoyed old TV westerns and fishing. We treasure his memory and honor his life.
His daughters, Pat Abbott and her husband, Craig Ellis and Kay Abbott Scott and her husband, Bob Scott; two grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew Scott; his brother, Fred Abbott Jr. and his wife, Joy Abbott; his nieces, nephews and friends know we will all be together again one day.

Nettie Lura Sweeden
ODESSA - Nettie Lura Sweeden was born February 2, 1911 in Zephra, Texas, and passed away on May 19, 2005, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Nettie had 3 brothers and 4 sisters all who preceded her in death. She married
Lenlie Julius Sweeden February 25, 1932. Also preceding her in death are her husband Lenlie, her sons Don and Kenneth Sweeden, her grandsons Robert Sweeden and Daniel Mosley.
She is survived by her son Louis Sweeden of Kerrville, Texas, and daughter-in-law Sandra Sweeden of Odessa, Texas, and so many grandchildren that we lost count. Nettie is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
We will miss her smile and love, but most of all we will miss her stories. When Grandma told a story, you could feel the sunshine, you could hear the rain, and you could see the colors. How we’d love to hear her story of how she finally met her Jesus face to face. Rest now Grandma, We Love You.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas.

Robert ‘Bob’ Boyce Eidson
LOVINGTON, N.M. - Graveside services for Robert “Bob” Boyce Eidson, 82, of Lovington, N.M., are scheduled for 9 a.m. MDT Monday, May 23, 2005, at Resthaven cemetery with the Rev. Mack McCarthick and Ty Bean officiating.
Mr. Eidson died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the Lovington Good Samaritan Care Center. He was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Stanton, Texas, to Rose and Boyce Eidson. He married
Juandell Key April 21, 1948, in Carlsbad, N.M.
Mr. Eidson graduated in 1940 from Midland High School and attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, Texas, from 1940 to 1942. He was a member of the 1942 Lone Star Conference Championship Football Team. He served his country during World War II in the 342nd Infantry from 1943 to 1946 and was awarded the Bronze Star in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He also served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.
He moved to Lovington in 1946 and ranched there until his death. He was a founding member of the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center and served on their Board of Directors for 10 years. He held membership in the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association, Texas Cattle Growers Association and American Hereford Association. He was also a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association as well as the Lovington Chapter of the VFW.
He was honored in 2003 with the Foy Proctor Memorial Cowman Award given by the Haley Library and History Center in Midland. A ranch plaque was also placed in his honor at the Pioneer Plaza Heritage Foundation of Odessa for his lifelong commitment to ranching in West Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Juandell Eidson of Lovington; daughters and sons-in-laws, Patsy and Jack Ward of Midland, Texas, Judy and Ed Mulder of Forney, Texas, Betty and Gerry Hahn, and Bobbi Taylor, all of Amarillo, Texas; sister, Bess Crownover of Canyon, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Nathan Taylor, Jared Taylor and Suzannah Rexrode of Amarillo, Sam Mulder of Albuquerque, N.M., Courtney Hahn of Texline, Texas, John Mulder and Amy Ward of Denton, Texas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Klatt, Arzell Sellars, Jack Ward, Gerry Hahn and Ed Mulder.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Haley Library in Midland, Lea County Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center, 5317 Lovington Highway, Hobbs, N.M. or New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch in Belen, N.M.
George Vales
MIDLAND - George Vales, 74, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
A gathering will be held to celebrate his life from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.
He was born on August 15, 1930, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He was raised in Milwaukee and attended schools there. He graduated from the Boys Technical High School and attended Marquette University.
George served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married
Alice Klapchar on November 15, 1952, in El Paso, Texas. The couple spent most of their lives in Milwauwkee before retiring to Las Vegas. In 2005, they moved to Odessa to be closer to family.
George enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Kiwanis Club, American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Vales of Odessa; two children, Gerald Vales and his wife Suzette of McHenry, Illinois; Patricia Ares and her husband Sam of Odessa; one brother, John Vales of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Vanessa and husband Tony Dunn of Odessa; John Confer of Dallas, Ariel Vales and Madisen Vales, both of McHenry, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Brinlee Dunn, Sophie Dunn and Sydney Dunn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

John Henry ‘Dirty’ Baca
ODESSA - John Henry “Dirty” Baca, 32, of Odessa, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Father Mark Woodraff officiating. Burial will be at RoseHill cemetery.
He was born in San Angelo.
Survivors include his wife, Corina Baca of Odessa; father, Juan Baca of Odessa; sister, Benita Rodriquez of Odessa; and brothers, Bobby Baca and Roger Baca, both of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Francis Baca; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Armendarez of Odessa and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baca of Pecos.
Anna Bell Berry
ODESSA - Anna Bell Berry, 85, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Friday, June 3, 2005, at her residence.
She was born July 8, 1919, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Sigle and Laura Tannehill.
Anna Bell was an avid Bible reader. She was a stay-at-home Mom; she took care of her kids and a lot of the neighborhood kids. She loved to sew. She was a member of the Salvation Army.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Jones Edward Berry.
She is survived by her sons, Donald Jones Berry of Fort Worth and William Edward Berry of Odessa; daughter, Carole Ann Hardee of Sonora; brother, Ed Tannehill of Springdale, Ark.; sister, Amy Wood of Broken Arrow, Okla.; four grandchildren, Dyann Warren, Lamar Hardee, Mark Hardee and Brian Berry; and two great-grandsons, Kenneth Hardee and Bryson Berry.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at RoseHill cemetery.

Margery Ware Carver Harris
June 2, 1909 to June 4, 2005
ODESSA - Marge Harris passed away on June 4, 2005. One of seven sisters, Marge is survived by her younger sister, Ella Brooks Ray of Abilene; her daughters, Barbara Harris of Austin and Peggy Adams and husband Jim of Destin, Florida; son, Don Harris and wife Linda of Austin; her daughter-in-law, Allana Harris of Mesquite, 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She joins her husband, T.B. “Buck” Harris; son, Tommy Harris; and five sisters.
Marge, a graduate of Farmersville High School and East Texas State Teacher’s College, taught school for 12 years, the last several in Monahans, Texas. Marge was a member of the DAR, Old Timer’s Club, and the First Baptist Church of Odessa for many years.
There was nothing that Marge would not do for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was extremely proud of them. Marge enjoyed weddings and funerals, especially if she had a hand in the planning, a good party, and the many friends she and Buck made over the years.
There are many Marge stories to tell and remember. May she Rest in Peace, and be eternally 25 (as she is in the picture shown) in her new higher place where she joins “her” Buck, Tommy, Sadie, Lillie, Grace, Leon and Matte Lee.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Lee Perry
ODESSA - Lee Perry, 46, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005, at the Home Hospice House.
He was born May 7, 1959, in Lamesa, Texas, to Gerald and Reba Jo Perry.
Lee was a member of Vine Baptist Church; a graduate from the OHS Class of 1977; an Eagle Scout; and a U.S. Army veteran, giving 13 years of dedicated service and being part of the Desert Storm Conflict.
Lee was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Perry.
He is survived by his mother; Reba Perry of Odessa; father, Gerald Perry of Odessa; brother, Glynn Perry and wife Susan of San Angelo; several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and very special friends, Jack and Carol Switzer of Midland.
A memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday June 7, 2005, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Touchstone and Emmett Barnard officiating.

Leona ‘Joyce’ Taylor
Odessa - Leona “Joyce” Taylor, 77, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Augusta Medical Center Hospital in Virginia.
She was born June 17, 1929, in McCamey to parents, Jack and Leona Taylor. She moved to Odessa in 1934 and graduated from Odessa High School in 1947.
She is survived by her brothers, Aaron Taylor of Waynesboro, Va., and Spencer Taylor of Clyde.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
