Mary Irene ‘Renie’ Stanford
Odessa - Mary Irene “Renie” Stanford, 74, longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born April 22, 1930, in Comanche to James Madison and Mary Alma Gilliam. She married
George Stanford Nov. 17, 1949, in Odessa. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She was also twice past president and woman of the year of the Roadrunner Chapter of the A.B.W.A. She also delivered Meals On Wheels. She also had worked for Kenneth Esmond Civil Engineers, where she was a bookkeeper for 12 years and was a past manager of the Postal Credit Union. She enjoyed sewing and had made many quilts for her family. She made many of her and her daughter’s clothes. She enjoyed traveling. She contributed to the Door Of Hope and the American Cancer Society regularly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Joshua Paul Trekell; nine brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by her husband, George Stanford of Odessa; son, Bill Stanford and wife, Becky, of Odessa, daughter, Theresa Lynne Trekell and husband, Don, of Dallas; three grandchildren, Scott Stanford and wife, Shelly, Emily Dawn Trekell and Allison Wendt.
After many, many years of suffering from macular degeneration and pulmonary disorder, Granny now can see clearly and breathe deeply within the confines of her Heavenly Father.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, March 12, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Audio Visual Books for the Blind at the Ector County Library or Temple Baptist Church Missionary Fund.

Gabriel Dean Morris
Carrolton - Gabriel Dean Morris, 23, of Farmers Branch, entered the next stage of his life March 6, 2005, in Selma, Ala.
He was born in Odessa April 10, 1981, to Garry and Melissa Morris. Gabriel was a poet, philosopher and an amazing spirit with a tender heart that cared and loved for all things in nature. He was a young man who chose to find and follow his own path. He recently became a father and was beginning to find great joy and happiness in the service of his young family. He was an electrician by trade and was fortunate to be taught by his beloved grandfather, Robert Younger. He currently was able to enjoy working with many of his cousins that have surrounded him throughout his short life. He is loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Bell; and his two children, Dyllan and his 4-month-old daughter, Savannah Dawn; his parents, Garry and Melissa (Younger) Morris of Carrollton; his sister, Alisha Morris; grandmother, Mattie Younger of Odessa; and his grandparents, Bill and Shirley Morris of McKinney; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4000 Nazarene Drive in Carrollton.

Carolyn Langford Firebaugh
Odessa - Carolyn Langford Firebaugh, 61, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005. She left this earth while at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 28, 1944, in McCamey to S.O. and Inez Langford. As a bus driver for both ECISD and EZ Rider in Odessa, she enjoyed one of her greatest pleasures, meeting new people. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post No. 4372 and the Church Of Christ.
Carolyn will always be loved and remembered as a kind and generous person by those whose lives she touched. She often made sacrifices by putting her friends needs before her own. She opened her heart and saw the good in everyone she met. Her husband, Forrest Leroy Gray and her parents preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Reed and husband, Frank, their son, Carbon; and their daughter, Misty Bassham of Visalia, Calif.; daughter, Elizabeth Markham and husband, Marcus, of Fort Carson, Colo.; and their daughters, Erin and Tiffany; her son, Jay Firebaugh and wife, Sunny; and their children, Laura and Andrew of San Antonio; her son, Richard Gray and wife, Patricia; and their son, Bryce of Odessa; her brothers, Roger Langford, Thomas Langford and James Langford, all of Odessa, and Robert Langford of Hobbs, N.M.; sister, Rovena Henslee of Odessa; nieces, Shirley Bruce, Sharon Kenyon and Cynthia Ruvalcaba; nephew, David Langford. Carolyn also had an extended family that included three stepchildren; and their eight children of Colorado. The song has ended, but the melody lingers on.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Janice Faye Lehman
Odessa - Janice Faye Lehman, 60, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at the Hospice House, after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Jan was born Sept. 20, 1944, to Mary Stanley and Wayne Phillips in Oklahoma City. She married
Dale Lehman on Aug. 26, 1962. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed spending time at the lake and ranch with her family and her faithful dog, Clancy. Jan shared her husband’s love of the sport of Judo and helped him start the Odessa Boys Club Judo Team in 1964. Together they dedicated their time and shared their lives with many young men and women not only teaching them Judo but discipline and self-respect. Dale and she started City Plumbing Service Department in 1967, where she was the secretary for many years.
She was preceded in death by her father; and grandmother, Villa May Loum.
She is survived by her husband, Dale; her mother and stepfather, Mary and O.E. Stanley; daughter, Tish Nash and her husband, Mark; sons, Tosh Lehman and wife, Sofia, and Yosh Lehman; two grandchildren, Zane and Keenan Nash; brother-in-law, Richard Lehman and his wife, Chris; and their daughters, Melissa, Melinda and Melonie; and numerous extended family members in Iowa and Oklahoma. She will be dearly missed by family, friends and her Judo family.
A Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel.

Melba Slaton Bassett
Odessa - Melba Slaton Bassett, 86, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at her residence.
She was born April 13, 1918, in Colorado City to George D. and Allie Slaton and spent her childhood there. She attended Texas Women’s University where she proudly sang in the choir and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. She married
A.C. “Johnny” Bassett July 14, 1940, in Colorado City. After World War II, they moved to Odessa where she was a loving wife and mother to her husband and two sons. They were longtime members of First Presbyterian Church. Melba loved arts & crafts and was adept at sewing, wood carving and needlepoint. Her favorite pastimes were skiing, golfing, fishing, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Odessa Country Club Women’s Golf Association. She was a patron of the Odessa Symphony Guild, Junior League of Odessa, Crystal Ball Foundation, Salvation Army, The United Way, and contributed generously to many other charitable causes. Sharing with her husband an interest in educational opportunities, they endowed scholarships at Odessa College and Texas A&M, and they established the Ector County Scholarship Foundation benefiting Odessa College and UTPB.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Bassett; her parents; and brothers, Norris and George Slaton.
Survivors include sons, Don A. Bassett, Billy G. Bassett and wife, Sheilagh; grandchildren, Bo and wife, Keri, of Houston, Blake and Meg of Dallas, Blaire of Fort Worth, and Erin and Paige of Fort Worth; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Caroline and Ellie.
A Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Nora Fitch officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Ector County Scholarship Foundation.

Alma Sue Hall
Imperial - Alma Sue Hall died early Tuesday morning, March 15, 2005. She was born Nov. 17, 1941, in Okmulgee County, Okla., to Lester and Elvira Conner of Imperial.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Dorothy McDowell of Imperial.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Jack Hall of Imperial; a daughter, Jacqueline Elisabeth Williams of Jacksonville, Ore.; a brother, Therman Conner of Fort Stockton, and granddaughter, Elisabeth Jade Williams of Jacksonville, Ore.
She attended grammar school in Morris, Okla.; high school at Buena Vista High School in Imperial; and graduated from high school in Denton.
She was a realtor in Redmond, Ore., and a member of the Eastern Star of Redmond.
She lived in Redmond, Ore., from 1970 until 1994, when she and her husband, Billy Jack, moved back to Imperial, where she resided until her death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Assembly of God of Imperial with Dean Duckett officiating. Burial will be at Imperial cemetery.

Gloria Olivarez Saucedo
Odessa - Gloria Olivarez Saucedo, 49, of Odessa, passed away March 16, 2005, at Avalon Place Nursing Home.
She was born June 12, 1955, in Beeville.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie C. Saucedo on May 12, 1986.
Gloria is survived by two daughters, Christina Riojas and Amanda Saucedo; two sons, Michael E. Riojas and Paul Anthony Saucedo. She is also survived by her mother, Angelita Olivarez; five sisters, Candie O. Chavria of Washington, Mary E. Coody of Austin, Linda Martinez of Odessa, Beatrice Ramirez of Austin, Lydia Hinojosa of Lorenzo; and four brothers, Reuben Perez of Mathis, Gilbert Olivarez of Dimmitt, Johnny Olivarez of South Carolina, and Joe Olivarez of Austin. She also has three grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. today at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 432 N. Adams St., with Burt Cole officiating.

Hazel May Smith
Odessa - Hazel May Smith, 94, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Friday, March 18, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born June 4, 1910, in Hastings, Okla. She was a homemaker and Church of Christ.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Smith of Odessa, Donald Smith of Farmersville, daughters, Janie Wilson of Edmond, Okla., Vasca Beall of Weatherford; brothers, Glen McFarland of Duncan, Okla., Lee McFarland of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Della Vann of Seattle, Wash.; a duaghter-in-law Mary Smith of Midland; and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Burt Groves officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Troy Neilan Cheatham
Odessa - Troy Neilan Cheatham, 83, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2005, at his residence.
He was born July 5, 1921, in Coryell County to Robert Clyde and Lura Gardner Cheatham. Troy grew up in Archer County and joined the Navy Nov. 16, 1939. He was stationed in San Diego until he was assigned to the U.S.S. Saratoga. They were sent to Pearl Harbor and arrived one week after the Japanese attack. He spent two years in the Pacific, until he was sent to torpedo school in Newport, R.I. He was then assigned to the destroyer escort U.S.S. Weaver D.E. 741. He spent the duration of the war on the Weaver as Chief torpedoman. The Weaver captured the largest Japanese sub in the fleet, and endured the worst typhoon the U.S. Navy has ever encountered. They were anchored in Tokyo Bay when the peace treaty was signed in 1945. Troy was discharged Dec. 21, 1945, and returned home to Texas. He has enjoyed attending numerous annual reunions with his Weaver shipmates.
Troy and JoAnn were married
May 21, 1951, in Odessa. He went to work for Tidewater Oil Co. in 1958 and retired from Texaco in 1986. Troy enjoyed watching his two grandsons grow up, he went to every baseball game. They were the biggest joy of his life.
He was a charter member of Highland United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion Post No. 430.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Clovis Cheatham.
He is survived by his wife, of 53 years, JoAnn Cheatham; daughter, Lisa Sheets; grandsons, Benjamin John Lasseter and Adam Barton Lasseter; sisters, Merle St. John of Marble Falls, and Joy Taylor of Burnet; sisters-in-law, Frances Brown and Dorothy Tennis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Agnes Caroline Adamson
CRANE - Agnes Caroline Adamson died of natural causes on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Odessa. She was 93.
The daughter of Fred L. Slaughter and Edna Westbrook Slaughter, she was born in Menard, Texas on Aug. 9, 1911. She married
George Herbert Adamson on July 1, 1934, in Big Lake, Texas. Mrs. Adamson was a long-time resident of Crane, Texas. She graduated from high school at both Winnie and Menard High Schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; sisters, Norma McGuire and Elsie Cooley; and brother, baby Frank.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn Adamson and wife, Mary, of Houston, and Gene Adamson of Brownfield; three grandsons, Randall, Cody and Cristan Adamson; one step-granddaughter, Autumn Davidson and her husband, Mike; three step-great grandsons, Blake, Will and Wyatt Davidson; her brother, Talbot Slaughter and his wife, Merle, of Hughes Spring; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Adamson was active in the Christian Life Center and the New Beginning Bible Study group. She was a woman of unwavering faith in the Lord and a woman of tremendous courage; a beloved mother, Nana, counselor and friend.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home, 1503 S. Gaston, Crane. Pastor Bob Petree will officiate. Interment will follow at Crane County cemetery.

Loretta Bickerstaff
Oakwood - Loretta Bickerstaff, 66, of Woodway, formally of Odessa, finished a valiant battle against cancer on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at a local care center.
Visitation will be today from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Marcos Zuniga officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood cemetery.
She was born on June 21, 1938, in Menard to Robert and Flossie (Crisp) Hendricks. Her parents and brother Bobby preceded her in death.
Loretta is survived by sons, Greg Jungk of Odessa, and Wade Loudamy and wife, Julie, of Woodway.
She was beloved “Nanny” to Tori, Hailey and Morgan Jungk of Odessa, and Caleb, Keaton and Jaron Loudamy of Woodway.
She never lost her faith nor her will to live. She leaves behind many friends and customers at the Thrifty Nickel. She will be remembered for her love for flowers, the outdoors and painting.
