Nina V. Ashcraft
Denver City - Graveside services for Nina V. Ashcraft will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, at Denver City Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Brooks officiating.
Mrs. Ashcraft passed away Monday, May 9, 2005, following an auto accident in Stephens County.
She was born June 23, 1927, in Texarkana, Ark. She attended Texarkana High School. She married
Johnny Ashcraft on Oct. 11, 1945. They moved to Pecos in 1948 and lived in several towns in the Permian Basin before settling in Denver City in 1956, where she was a homemaker and raised her family. She was active in the Denver City chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny, and adopted son, Timmy.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Susi Bickley and her husband, Mike, of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Parker of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; grandchildren, Melanie Greene and her husband, Andy, of Austin, T.K. Harrison and her husband, Blake, of Houston, and Josh Bickley of Denton; and great-grandchild, Caroline Greene; cousin and longtime business partner, Tearl Covington and his wife, Linda; neighbors, Jim and Debbi Birkenfeld and Cody and Calli of Denver City; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Ratliff Funeral Home in Denver City.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Denver City or to the Melanoma Unit of M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.
Gladys H. Rudd
Odessa - Gladys H. Rudd, 88, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Wednesday May 11, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
She was born in Nolan County, Texas, November 8, 1916, to Hettie and W.H. Howell. She and T.E. Rudd, married
July 9, 1932. They moved from Crane to Odessa in 1949. Gladys worked for Dr. Sam Vines, until she retired in 1978, and she was very active with the West Park Baptist Church until it closed. Mrs. Rudd was a member at the First Baptist Church.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Curtis Brewer officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.E. Rudd in 1988; her mother, Hettie McNeese; father, W.H. Howell; sisters, Melba Edinbarm and Leora Terry; brother, Lawrence Wayne Howell.
Mrs. Rudd is survived by her brother, W.R. Howell and his wife, Ilene, of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Trixie McCarty; sons, Jack Rudd and Eddie Rudd and wife, Carolyn, of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Donations may be made to Home Hospice in Odessa, Texas.

Dr. H. Strauss Atkinson
Amarillo - Dr. H. Strauss Atkinson, 88, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in Amarillo.
Dr. H. Strauss Atkinson was born on March 6, 1917, in Florence, Texas. He was born into the family of God by salvation through faith in Jesus Christ on August 15, 1925, and was ordained to the ministry on November 24, 1940, by First Baptist Church of Littlefield, Texas. Strauss attended Hardin-Simmons University, West Texas A&M University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Wayland Baptist University. He pastored in Texas churches in Moran, Kermit and Canyon and was interim pastor of many area churches. He was director of missions for the Caprock-Plains Area in Plainview and was honored with the Outstanding Missionary Leader Award by the Associational Missions Division of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. He preached in cities throughout the United States and many foreign countries. He served on numerous committees and boards of the Southern Baptist Convention and was a field representative for Baylor University. He presided at baccalaureate services at both Wayland Baptist University and Hardin-Simmons University. He actively served in the Ambassador Service for Amarillo Area Baptist Association as a mentor through December 2004.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Trudy; his daughter, Mayla Ward; and his granddaughter, Tracie Densford.
Dr. Atkinson’s survivors are his wife, Bobbie Atkinson of Amarillo; daughter, Lynn Cain and husband, Dale, of Sundown; two grandchildren, Lt. Commander David Ward, and wife, Elke, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Pennee Shmitt and husband, Michael, of Houston; five sisters, Sybil Faught of Austin, Mary Pearl Roberts of Baytown; Elizabeth Sawyer of Florence, Billie Fern Goertz of Harrisburg, Ark., and Jacquita White of Fort Worth; and four great-grandchildren.
Dr. Atkinson will lie in state from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Brooks Funeral Home in Canyon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, at the First Baptist Church of Amarillo with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, Rev. Dale Cain, pastor of First Baptist Church of Sundown, Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor of First Baptist Church of Tulia, and Dr. Chester O’Brien, Baptist minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Littlefield cemetery in Littlefield, Texas.

Isabel Minjarez Guerrero
ODESSA - Mass for Isabel Minjarez Guerrero, 81, of Odessa will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic with Father Joe Uecker officiating.
Internment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Rosary will be said 7 p.m. today, Feb. 17, 2005, at Martinez Funeral Home.
Mrs. Guerrero died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Alpine to Alfredo Leyva and Cuca Minjarez. She married
Joe Guerrero in 1964, in Pecos. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and her parents.
Mrs. Guerrero retired as pastry chef and worked for several cafeterias in the Odessa and Midland area.
Survivors include her son, Higinio Gene Bustamante of Odessa; daughter, Delma Ramos and her husband, Mike, of Jal, N.M.; brothers, Gus Leyva of El Paso, Alberto Leyva of Odessa; Palemon Leyva and Abelardo, both of Alpine; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all who help take care of Isabel. Especially all the staff at Deerings Nursing Home, Sienna Care Center and Seabury Nursing Center.
Ruby Hart
MULESHOE - Ruby Hart of Muleshoe, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, in Odessa, Texas, after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Paris, Texas. She was the daughter of Rachel and Harvey Sterling of Muleshoe. She married
Houston Hart June 4, 1939, in Lordsburg, N.M. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1999. She was a homemaker and beloved wife, mother and MeeMee.
She is survived by her two children, Roxana Patton and husband Keith Coffman of Odessa, and Bill Hart and wife, Sue of Austin; four grandchildren, Bill Patton, Stacee Collins, David Hart, Jennifer Shaw; and five great grandchildren.
Ruby was an avid golfer for many years and was a member of the Muleshoe Country Club Ladies Golf Association.
The family of Ruby Hart would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Sherwood Place, to the sitters with Infusion Plus and to Home Hospice and their wonderful staff. Also our thanks to Brenda and Betty who were so special to Mother and Dr. Daniel O’Hearn.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Muleshoe on Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial will follow at Muleshoe Memorial cemetery.

Floyd James McNeil
Pecos - Floyd James McNeil passed away on Feb. 13, 2005.
He was born in Littlefield on May 5, 1929. He was a graduate of Clint High School.
He was preceded in death by his father, L.D. “Rounder” McNeil; and his mother, Florence Hughes McNeil; two brothers, W.C. “Dub” McNeil and Jackie McNeil; a sister, Yvonne McNeil; a daughter; and two grandchildren.
He is survived by beloved wife, Tommie Jean McNeil; and two sons; and a brother, Jimmy Don McNeil of Presidio.
Son, Lloyd James McNeil and wife, Tina; grandson, Louis James “Bubba;” three granddaughters, Julie Wofford, Jessica and Stephanie; and great-grandson, Chance, all of El Paso.
Son, Gary Lynn McNeil; grandson, Scott; three granddaughters, Carie, Taylar and Jamie Self; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Caleb Michael of Midland.
He lived in Pecos where he farmed. He later moved to El Paso where he worked in the trucking industry until he retired in 1990.
Visitation will be today at the Pecos Family Funeral Home.
Graveside Services will be at Mount evergreen cemetery in Pecos on Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at 2 p.m.
Leslie Ann Provencio
ODESSA - Services for Leslie Ann Provencio, 44, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating.
Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Provencio died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at her residence. She was born Dec. 18, 1960, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Mrs. Provencio was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Roberto Provencio; daughters, Mary Ann Provencio and Linda Marie Provencio, both of Odessa; brother, Sean Rose of Odessa; sisters, Etta Franks of Spokane, Wash., Ruby Plumlee of Midland, Cynthia Burns of Lufkin, Belinda Sivley of Conroe, Pammy Rodriguez of Odessa, Tammy Cano of Edinaburg and Jane Bergman of Canada; a grandson, Roberto Provencio.
Maria E. ‘Mera’ Rodriguez
ODESSA - Maria E. “Mera” Rodriguez, 52, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Home Hospice.
She was born June 17, 1952, in Pecos, Texas, to Francisco and Margarita Rodriguez. She was a Christian/Catholic and worked as a Family Assistant Home Provider.
She was preceded in death by her mother Margarita Rodriguez.
Mrs. Rodriguez is survived by her father, Francisco A. Rodriguez of Odessa; brothers, Francisco R. Rodriguez of Fort Worth, Fernando R. Rodriguez of Denton; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and lots of friends.
Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 419 W. Mable.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery, under the direction of Odessa Funeral Home.

Alan Wesley Read
Johnson City - Alan Wesley Read, 38, of Odessa, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Frank W. Wilson Chapel with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Johnson City cemetery in Johnson City, Texas.
Alan was born July 10, 1966, in Odessa. He attended Permian High School where he was on the varsity tennis team. He graduated from Permian in 1984. Alan loved hunting and fishing with his father. He was always ready and willing to help others when needed.
He is preceded in death by his father Wes Read.
He is survived by his wife, Selena; two stepchildren, Mattie and Alexa Garcia; mother, Cornellia Pursley; stepfather, Bob Pursley, stepmother, Sharron Read; sister, Shirley Bralley; nephews, Sean and Brett Bralley; and many loving friends.

Joyce E. Wood
Odessa - Joyce E. Wood, 72, of Arlington died Monday, Feb. 14, in Arlington.
She was a former resident of Odessa and had owned Joy’s Mobile Villa. She also was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the chapel of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Wood; her mother; and two sisters.
Survivors include daughter, Donna Ferry and her husband, Raymond, of Arlington; son, Gary Wood and wife, Emily, of Plano; sister, Sue Hunt of Fort Worth; brother, Wade Wilson of Odessa; and loyal friend, Koko Wood of Arlington.
Mac Haymes
Odessa - Mac Haymes, 83, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Munday to Floyd and Emma Haymes. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He received his associate’s degree in electronics. He worked for TXU Electric for 38 years and retired in 1986. He was active in 4H, and he was a member of the Permian High School Band Boosters, Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, Highland United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carrie Neal Russell in 1984; two brothers, Floyd Lee and Robert Haymes.
He is survived by his sons, Tommy Lee Haymes of Lubbock, and Russell Mac Haymes of Athens, Greece; sisters, Flo Nobles of Big Spring, and Helen Cox of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren, Thomas and Matthew Haymes, both of Athens, Greece, and Carrie James, Patricia Haymes, Rhonda Haymes and Randall Haymes, all of Lubbock; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica James of Lubbock.
There will be a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Association.
