Lois P. Wofford
Monahans - Lois P. Wofford, 76, passed away at Avalon Place of Odessa, after a fight with cancer.
Mrs. Wofford was born in Stephens County. She lived in Carlsbad, N.M., most of her last years, where she worked as a housekeeper. She moved to Odessa in 2001 and resided in Avalon Place. She was a widow.
She is survived by her sister, Flo Avary; her brother-in-law, Robert Avary; her nieces, Beth Avary and Sofia Avary Aguayo.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Monahans Memorial cemetery. The casket will be closed.

John Cooper Gillen Jr.
Odessa - John Cooper Gillen Jr., 40, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born June 18, 1964, in Natchez, Miss. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a participant in the Special Olympics for several years.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Cooper Gillen Sr.; and brother, Joseph Christopher Gillen.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Gillen of Odessa; brothers, Charles Edward Gillen of Houston, and Richard Allen Gillen of Odessa; and sister, Debbie Gillen of Odessa.
A visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Blossom Matthews officiating.

James William McDaniel
Monahans - James William McDaniel was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Somervell County and died May 22 in Odessa, after a lengthy illness. His wife of 46 years, Helen Ann, was with him.
J.W. spent his childhood in Wickett and graduated from Monahans High School in 1957. He continued his education at North Texas State University (now known as the University of North Texas) and graduated in 1964. J.W. was a local rancher for forty years. He owned and operated the Lazy R Ranch east of Monahans. He also owned several other businesses over the years, including the Monahans Feed Store.
He is predeceased by his father, W. O. “Buster” McDaniel; and his sister, Ollie Dell Miller.
J.W. is survived by his wife, Helen Ann; three daughters and their husbands, Helen and Don Jackson of Houston; Lyn and Lanny Ice of Monahans; and Leslie McDaniel and Sean Glaspell of Justin; and four grandchildren, Griffin, Rawley, Noel and Helen Ice. Pearl McDaniel, J.W.’s mother, lives in Monahans also.
There will be a visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Family Funeral Services.
A graveside service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at the family cemetery, near the Lazy R. Ranch ranchhouse.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lazy R Ranch Scholarship Fund, in care of West Texas State Bank.

E.B. ‘Jack’ Johnson
Denver City - E.B. “Jack” Johnson, 89, of Midland died Friday, May 20, 2005, in Midland.
Masonic graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, at Denver City Memorial Park. A memorial service followed at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Denver City. Services were under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
Jack was born December 13, 1915, in Emory to Johnathan and Ella (Smiley) Johnson. Most of his childhood years were spent on a farm in Sunnyside. He married
Louise King in Las Cruces, N.M., January 14, 1939. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co. for 34 years, before retiring to Lake Brownwood in 1976. During his time of employment, the family lived in Jal, N.M., Goldsmith, Monument, N.M., and Denver City. Jack was a Baptist and a member of the Denver City Masonic Lodge No. 1278.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise on Nov. 21, 2004.
Survivors include his three sons and their wives, John and Carol of Midland, Bucky and Dorothy of Denver City, and Jimmy and Kay of Rainbow; one sister, Irene Sallee of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Gerald Mulder
Odessa - Gerald Mulder, 90, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Mulder was a professional musician, and has a long musical career in Grand Rapids, MI. He conducted the AFL Federation of Musicians Band, and was Director of the Shrine Band and before WWII was the leader of the 126th Infantry Regiment Band, and guest conductor of the U.S. Navy Band, as well as the Irving Community Band. He managed and retired with the American Transfer & Storage, in Boulder, Colorado; Irving, Texas; San Angelo, Texas; El Paso, Texas, and Corpus Christi, Texas.
Gerald was born to Henry Mulder and Bertha Van Der Zwaag Mulder October 4th, 1914, in Muskegon, Michigan. He was reared and educated in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he met and married
Louise Boschma on December 8th, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Mr. Mulder is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bertha Mulder, his wife, Louise, and one sister, Elsie Sjoerdsma.
Survivors of Gerald include his two sons, James L. Mulder and his wife Felicia of Odessa, Texas, and Edward G. Mulder of Sandusky, Ohio; grandson Stephen C. Mulder of Odessa, Texas; great-granddaughter Meagan Baskett of Royce City, Texas; a brother, Lambert Mulder of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and a sister, Mrs. Hilda Shoemaker of Jenison, Michigan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Mulder will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Omar E. Parker
Odessa - Omar E. Parker, 80, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Alliance Hospital.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ivie Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Omar Parker was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Placid to George C. Parker and Ida Samford Parker. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a seagoing Marine and fought on Wake, Giberts, Marshalls, Carolines, Marianas, Phillipines and the occupation of China. He served on the U.S.S. Minneapolis CA-36 in the 8th Marine Regiment.
He married
Beverly Lewis on July 8, 1950, in Brady. He had retired from Chevron after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Mason Fellowship Lodge and past worshipful master of the Toyah Lodge and a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Odessa; son, Jim Parker of Abilene; daughter-in-law, Renee Parker of Odessa; daughter, Kathy Venegas and husband, Eddie, of Fort Stockton; sisters, Lois Ftitz of Rockdale, and Naomi Dixon and husband, Carl, of Beeville; grandchildren, Stewart Parker of Austin, and Tyler and Lindsey Venegas of Fort Stockton.

Dona Bea Schneider
Midland - Dona Bea Lohse Schneider, of Midland, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2005.
She was born July 30, 1926, to Emil Henry Lohse and Lillian Natalia Albert Lohse in Floresville and was raised and educated there. On Jan. 15, 1944, she married
Walter Schneider in Lubbock. She retired from Schneider Insurance Agency and Tax Service as secretary and office manager after 37 years of faithful and dedicated service.
Dona Bea was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes for her children and for herself; traveling with her husband, Walter; and entertaining guests in their home. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Midland. For ten years, she assisted Walter in a weekly prayer and bible study fellowship in their home. She was a resident of Midland for fifty years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Henry Lohse.
Dona Bea is survived by her husband, Walter L. Schneider of Midland; sons, John Schneider and wife, Helen, of Billings, Mont.; Don Schneider and wife, Cynthia, of Midland; Jymm Schneider and wife, Pat, of Owensboro, Ky.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. today, May 24, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Walter officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555.

Bobby Knox Beck
Midland - Bobby Knox Beck, 21, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, in Abilene.
A memorial service was at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory Ave. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Fairview cemetery.
Bobby was preceded in death by his mother in December, 2003. He will be laid to rest by her.
He was born to Michelle (Carter) and Grady Beck on November 7, 1983, in Midland. Bobby worked as a floor hand in the oil field. He loved music and his family.
Survivors include his father, Grady Beck and his wife, Lori, of Odessa; brothers, Cole James of Midland, Dustin Sartain and Jonathan Beck, both of Odessa; and a sister, Kristen Beck of Odessa. Bobby is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Valerie Flowers of Clyde; his paternal grandparents, Ernest and Elizabeth Beck of Ranger; great-grandparents, Nellie and Marshall Flowers of Abilene; aunts, Heather Sorensen and husband James Bramlett, Marty Carter of Abilene, Rachel Conley of Clyde, Shannon Wallace and husband, Stacy, of Midland, and Sherri Ainsworth and husband, Ronnie, of Ranger; uncles, Wylie Beck of Ranger, and Buddy Beck of Michigan; several cousins; and many friends.
Jimmie Olivia Heaton
Belton - Jimmie Olivia Heaton, 86, of Janesville, Wis., a homemaker, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Coy Lil’Acres in Janesville, Wis.
A memorial service was Sunday, April 3, in Janesville, Wis. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Belton cemetery. Arrangements are by Heart Felt Funeral Home of Belton.
She was a longtime resident of Odessa. Her husband, “Cubby” J.J. Heaton was fire chief at Midland Airbase and in Odessa. He was also chief of police in 1946. They raised two daughters in Odessa and they loved Odessa. They had many friends. She attended Immanuel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband “Cubby” Heaton; and her parents.
Survivors include her sister, Jewell Greenwood of California; daughters, Sue Presley of Janesville, Wis., and Beth Colley of Deer Park; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Hootie Pastelle of Odessa.
Sara Elizabeth (Payne) (Hammett) Jordan
Sapula, Okla. - Sara Elizabeth (Payne) (Hammett) Jordan passed away at Family Health West in Fruita, Colorado, on Friday, April 8, 2005, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease and a more recent onset of an aggressive cancer. At her bedside were her son and his wife, Mike and Saundra Hammett of Loma, Colorado.
Sara was born March 19, 1919, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, the first of three children to James Edwin Payne and Nancy Susan (Davis) Payne. She was graduated from Austin High School in Austin, Texas, and attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and The University of Texas at Austin.
In the Spring of 1937, Sara and her parents were hosting a church social at their home in Austin, when J. Lynn Hammett, a new fellow in town, arrived. Sara told her mother that Lynn was the man she was going to marry and they were married
that next Thanksgiving.
After World War II, Sara, Lynn and their two sons, David and Mike, moved to a small community, Kermit, in West Texas, where Sara was the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. Years later, after Sara and Lynn divorced, Sara moved first to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then to California in 1968, where she was hired as a secretary in the Student Health Center at Humbolt State University in Arcata, California. Within four years, Sara was promoted to be the administrator of the Student Health Center; a job which she thoroughly enjoyed. She retired in 1992.
Sara’s mother, a music teacher, taught Sara to play piano and organ and Sara never lost her love of music. She sang wonderful alto in church choirs. Also, she encouraged her sons and their friends to learn to play musical instruments and was tirelessly supportive of their efforts. Sara and her second husband, Earl, enjoyed ballroom dancing and their friends often referred to them as “Fred and Ginger.” They also enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with their many friends.
Sara is survived by her son, Michael A. “Mike” Hammett and his wife, Saundra, of Lorna, Colorado; her cousin, Howard Q. Gilliam and his wife, Virginia, of Aurora, Missouri; her nieces, Cathy and Peggy Smith, Pat Hawley of Tulsa; her niece, Faye Foster and husband, Harry, of San Angelo, Texas; her nephew, Don Hunt and wife, Sammye, of Fort Worth, Texas; and her nephew, Reagan Hammett and wife, Bettye, of Round Rock, Texas. Sara also loved and thoroughly enjoyed her extended family, the staff at Family Health West, who took such good and loving care of her in her last years.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Luella (Payne) Smith; her brother, Louis Edwin Payne; her older son, David Lynn Hammett; her first husband, J. Lynn Hammett; and her second husband, Earl Jordan.
In accordance with Sara’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside memorial service in the Sapulpa, Oklahoma, cemetery sometime in the future. Arrangements are being handled by Callahan Edfast Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Alzheimer’s research, the American Cancer Society, or to any charity of your choice.
Lowell Taylor
Kermit - Lowell Taylor, 94, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Kermit.
He was born June 16, 1910, in Trenton to the late Charley H. Taylor and Malisa Jane Barnet Taylor. Lowell made his home in Kermit for more than 57 years and was a member of Belvue Baptist Church. He was a barber.
Lowell was married
for 75 years to Lola M. Winkle Taylor, the love of his life. She preceded him in death April 2, 2005.
He is survived by his son, L.C. Taylor of Universal City; four grandchildren; James Taylor of Huntersville, N.C., Diane Martin of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Lynda Collins of Matthews, N.C., and Monica Taylor Fagett of Converse, and great-grandson, Joshua Collins of Matthews, N.C.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, April 14 at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit with Rev. Danny Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at Oakhill cemetery in Whitewright.
Services have been entrusted to Cooper Funeral Chapel of Kermit.
William J. Vaughn Jr.
Midland - William James Vaughn Jr., 84, a longtime resident of Midland, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was called from this life to be with his heavenly Father and to be reunited with his beloved wife, Dorothy.
Bill, the youngest of the four children of William J. Vaughn Sr. and Carrie Reynolds Vaughn, was born on July 29, 1920, in Bay City, Mich. He graduated from Bay City High School in Michigan in 1939. On Oct. 8, 1939, he met Dorothy Parent at a high school football game, and they married
on Aug. 14, 1943. Bill left for the war in Europe one week later and was away for almost three years. During the war, Bill served as a member of the Army construction division in London and Paris. When Bill returned from war, they moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., where Bill completed his master’s degree in petroleum geology. In 1948, a job with Texaco landed them in Pampa, Texas. From there, they went to Amarillo and finally to Midland in 1952.
Bill was very involved with the petroleum industry in Midland. He was a petroleum geologist for Texaco retiring in 1975 in order to work as an independent geologist and oil producer. He co-founded Titan Exploration in the early 1990s and was instrumental in the formation of several other oil-related businesses. He was a longtime member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, SIPES, and the Permian Basin Geological and Geophysical Society. He was a lifelong supporter of the Republican Party.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Marie Parent Vaughn; his brother, Walter Vaughn; and his sister, Elaine Evans.
He is survived by sons, William J. Vaughn III and wife, Joanne of Rochester, N.Y., Jim Vaughn and wife, Michele, of Elkins, Ark., and Kevin Vaughn and wife, Lisa, of Arlington; and daughter, Pam Crutcher and husband, Drew, of Odessa; sister, Virginia Maxson of Bay City, Mich.; niece, Judy Gordon of Cleveland, Tenn.; and nephew, David Charlesbois and wife, Brenda, of Bay City, Mich. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Trey Crutcher and wife, Karen, and Cathy Crutcher, both of Dallas, Michael Crutcher of Austin, Sara, Spencer and Christopher Vaughn, all of Arlington, and Jamie and Nick Vaughn of Rochester, N.Y.
The family wishes to express their thanks to all the people who helped with Bill’s care during the past few years.
Bill was a loving husband, father and friend and an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. His presence will be greatly missed by all those who knew him but the memories of his generous heart and good humor will keep him with us in spirit.
A Rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Ellis Funeral Home. Visitation will follow from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with the Father Rodney White and Father James Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be: grandsons, Trey and Michael Crutcher, Spencer, Christopher, Jamie, and Nick Vaughn, as well as Richard Rikli and Larry Edgerton.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Eddie Gorence, Dave Buthman, Jim Deffenbaugh, Dick Maxwell, George Coombes, John Landgraf and Larney Fuller.
