Wilda Rose Stoneking Straight
ABILENE - Wilda Rose Stoneking Straight, age 80, of Abilene, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005.
Wilda was born in Hundred, W.Va., on July 23, 1924, to Ella Teagarden Stoneking and David Burnice Stoneking. She was the fourth oldest child in this family of six girls.
The family moved to Rising Star in 1926. Wilda attended many schools in Texas and New Mexico while her dad worked the oilfields. After graduating from Monahans High School, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and for Pyote Air Force Base. She later worked for and retired from El Paso Products Co. in Odessa.
Wilda married
John Alpheaus Straight Jr. on July 10, 1943 in Monahans. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Leonora Mathews of Grandfalls and Leota Karkalits of Hamilton.
Wilda is survived by her husband; daughter, Carol Michael Stone of Abilene; son, John David Straight and wife, Jill, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; five granddaughters, Melissa Stone Ware and Carl of Midland, Shellee Stone Cochran and Corey of Flower Mound, and Sterling Guidry and Marc of Rapid City, Mich., Lacey and Whitney Straight of Traverse City, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Hannah Ware of Midland, and Marcus Guidry of Rapid City, Mich.; and sisters, Betty Strickland of Monahans, Bernyce Bragg of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jo Ann Shaddox of Fort Stockton.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South in Abilene, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Choyce
Odessa - Elizabeth Choyce, 45, of Odessa, went away to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the Hospice House. She will be greatly missed.
Elizabeth was born on July 3, 1959, in Denver City. She was a member of the Church of God and Christ. She loved sports, but she especially loved to play basketball and softball. She was also an avid lover of music.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Walker Chapel Church of God and Christ with the Pastor James Porter officiating. Her body will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, John Choyce of Odessa; her mother, Arko Lee Triggs of Odessa; her son, Chikwudi I. Maduekwe of Odessa; her daughters, Tenille Johnson and Crystal Carter, both of Odessa; her brothers, Burnett Johnson and Rayfield Johnson, both of Odessa, Joe Davis Johnson of Amarillo, Billy Conner of Austin, and James Conner of South Carolina; her sisters, Christine Johnson, Lee Ann Johnson, both of Odessa, and Angela Denise Harps of Houston; three grandchildren, JaCory, DeVante, and Devin; her nieces, Stephanie, Brittany, and Shawanda; and her nephews, Tyrone, Jarius, Jonathan, Michael, and Charles.

Marie Ford
Odessa - Marie Ford, a Christian, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister and a friend went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Feb. 2, 2005, in Tonopah, Nev., after a sudden illness.
She was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Coleman to Jess and Lonia Watkins.
She married
E. A. “Al” Ford Oct. 15, 1954, in Monahans. He preceded her in death in 1991. Also preceding her in death were her mother and father.
Her son and daughter-in-law, Vance and Beverly Ford of Odessa; and grandchildren, Stacy Ford Doughty and husband, Brian, of Moore, Okla., and Brandon Ford of Odessa; two sisters, Juanita Dodson and Alma Hewett, both of Odessa, survive her as well as several nieces; nephews; and a large extended family of aunts; uncles; and cousins. A very special friend Max Ladd of Duncan, Okla. also survives her.
She found great joy working alongside Dr. Dale Curry as his receptionist from 1973 until their retirement in 1990.
Her phone line would be busy for hours on end, as she loved talking with her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time watching old movies, and she always had the coffeepot on for anyone who came by.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Byron McWilliams officiating. Interment will follow at the Monahans Memorial cemetery.

Patsy Freeman Edens
MIDLAND - Patsy Ann Freeman Edens passed away at 4:30 a.m. at Baylor Medical Center of Dallas on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005.
Patsy Ann Freeman Edens was born on May 13, 1939, to Leta Webb Freeman and Monroe Jackson Freeman in Odessa, Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1957.
Ms. Edens moved to Midland where she married
William Edens. Ms. Edens was saved as a teenager and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church while living in Midland. She moved to Dallas around 1992 to be with her sister Betty Freeman. Ms. Edens graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington and worked for the State of Texas as a probation officer until she became ill. Ms. Edens was residing at the Community Care Center of Garland at the time of her death.
Her father, Monroe Freeman, mother, Leta Webb Riel, stepfather, J.G. “Jerry” Riel and sister, Betty Lee Freeman, preceded Ms. Edens in death. Her son Mark F. Edens of Wiley, his wife Patricia, and two grandsons, her sister Susan Riel Myers of Odessa, brother Jackson Freeman of Chicago, Ill. and many aunts, cousins, two nephews and one niece survive her.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bob Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Gracia Rose Griffey
Odessa - Gracia Rose Griffey, 69, of Odessa, passed away Feb. 1, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital after brave battle with cancer and emphysema.
Gracia was born July 17, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa to Paul and Frances Lewis. She graduated from Valley High School of West Des Moines, Iowa, in 1953 and spent one year majoring in Education at Northern University of Iowa in Cedar Falls and one semester, Sociology at Grandview College in Des Moines. Gracia worked as an Executive Secretary for the Iowa Catholic Conference and the City of Des Moines Housing Code Enforcement.
Gracia married
Ron Griffey on June 7, 1975, in Omaha, Nebraska, and they moved to Odessa in 1979. During her time in Odessa, Gracia worked for Perry Gas Processors, the Odessa Police Department and Sivalls Inc. She spent the last 12 years on the Internet with old school mates and other friends.
Gracia was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Marine Sgt. John Dilse in 1991.
Gracia is survived by her husband of 30 years, Ron Griffey, retired Chief Inspector for City of Odessa; who misses her already; two sons, Paul Dilse of Odessa, and Vernon Dilse of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons Paul and Cody Dilse, both of Des Moines, Iowa; and six stepchildren, in Des Moines, Iowa, and Buckeye, Arizona. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Bobby Joe Nichols
Odessa - On Feb. 2, 2005, God called Bobby Joe Nichols home to Heaven and reunited him with his loving wife, his mother and his father.
Bobby Joe was born May 29, 1929, in Albany. He served in the United States Marines when he was 18 years old for two years. On November 10, 1950, Bob married
Peggy Lee Nichols in Lawton, Okla.. They moved from Albany to Odessa in 1950 where they have remained as longtime residents. Bobby Joe was a roughneck and driller in the oilfield for many years until 1978 when he began working with his wife in their full-time catering service. Bob was an incredible artist, he could draw anything — he created many birthday cakes with children and adult’s favorite characters and designs. For more than 10 years they made cakes for every occasion and catered hundreds of weddings until they retired.
Bob loved his family. His children and grandchildren were the highlights of his life and he loved them unconditionally. He read the paper, worked the crossword puzzle every morning, and enjoyed watching all the old western shows on TV. Bob had many friends and family, he will be truly missed by all.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, his father, Boyce Nichols, his mother, Irene Nichols, and one brother Boyce Ray Nichols.
Bobby Joe is survived by a son, D.R. Nichols, a son, and daughter-in-law, Mike and Barbara Nichols; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Mike Clements; six grandchildren, Summer Darvishi, Mikey Nichols, Jacob Nichols, Elise Nichols, Candice Clements, and Savannah Campbell; and two great-grandchildren, Sofia and Alex.
Funeral services will be at noon today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kyle Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Milton Glenn Rowell
Burleson - Milton Glenn Rowell, 76, of Burleson, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at a nursing center under hospice care.
The family has decided not to have a service and Mr. Rowell, per his wishes, will be cremated.
Glenn was born April 24, 1928, in Snyder to Clarence and Viola Rowell. He graduated from high school in Odessa. He received a Bachelor’s degree from University of North Texas and proceeded to Sul Ross University to receive a Master’s in Education. His career in education was highlighted with the honor of being the first principal at Mound Elementary in Burleson. He held that position from 1962 to 1968. He then taught math in Dublin from 1972 to 1975. His longest and last position was from 1975 until he retired in 1992 in Breckenridge were he taught sixth grade at North Elementary. His children also grew up there. He moved to Burleson in 1995 to be closer to his children. While education was his profession, he also enjoyed any activity he could do while riding a horse. He roped calves and partnered in head and heeling contests. He had numerous friends with land and cattle that he could join in working. Even after he became unable to ride horses, he still frequented many arenas to watch friends rope!
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Viola Rowell; two brothers, Ray Rowell and Don Rowell; and one stillborn son, David Keith Rowell.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Deirdre Rowell of Granbury, and Athena Lueen Griffith and husband, Mark and the only grandchild, Robert Davis Griffith, all of Burleson; an ex-wife; and good friend Charlene Thompson. He also had several nephews; one niece; and many friends scattered all over the state.

Patricia A. Sellner
Ankeny, Iowa - Pat Sellner, 74, of Odessa, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Feb. 3, 2005, in her home.
Pat was born May 19, 1930, in Greenfield, Iowa, to Patrick and Inez Sheridan. She grew up in Lenox, Iowa, and graduated from Lenox High School in 1948. She moved to Des Moines and secured a secretarial position with Banker’s Life Insurance Company. She later developed an interest in bookkeeping, and pursued this vocation in several companies, including Pioneer Hi-Bred International, The Brown Garage, and North Polk (Iowa) Community School District over the course of a 30-year career.
While she enjoyed a long and successful business career, Pat’s first love was her family. Pat met and married
Harry Sellner in 1948. They made their home north of Des Moines in Alleman, Iowa. Together they raised two children, Laura and Tim. Harry and Pat were active members of Elkhart Christian Church. She had passions for gardening, sewing, cooking and collecting antiques. Pat and Harry’s life together was dramatically altered when he was diagnosed with cancer at age 48. For the remaining ten years of Harry’s life, Pat devoted herself to his loving care and her family’s well-being. Pat’s son, Tim, served an 11-year career in the U.S. Army, the last five years as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division until his life was cut short in a military aircraft accident in 1985.
After retirement in 1991, Pat volunteered for Iowa Lutheran Hospital; the Iowa Governor’s Mansion; and the Iowa Arboretum. In the early 1990s, Pat began a small catering business and even was awarded blue ribbons for her cooking entries at the Iowa State Fair. For several years, she wintered in Odessa where her daughter, Laura, resides. Pat joined her daughter, Laura, in Odessa in 1999. Her years in Odessa were marked by an active ministry at St. John’s Episcopal Church, where Laura is Rector. After an initial adjustment period, Pat grew to love the West Texas desert and its people. Her special gift of hospitality blessed the lives of many new friends in Odessa, just as it had throughout her life.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Laura Sellner Deaderick, and a host of beloved friends in Texas and Iowa.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly today.
Funeral and burial services will be Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church in Ankeny, Iowa.

Tommy T. Storey
Odessa - Tommy Storey, 75, of Odessa, passed away Feb. 3, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Tommy was born in Coleman on Sept. 15, 1929, to his father, Tom Storey, and mother, Stella Storey. He served in the Army from Feb. 8, 1951, to Jan. 16, 1953. Tommy married
Betty Glenn on March 13, 1959, in Midland.
Tommy is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Storey, who passed away June 22, 1998; his parents, Tom and Stella Storey; and two sisters, Patsy Griffith and Bonnie Brown.
Tommy is survived by his daughter, Debbie Blackstock and husband, Cliff, of Newcastle; Son, Steven Storey of Odessa; granddaughter, Tonya Blackstock of Newcastle; sister, Etta Watson of Odessa; and two brothers, Bobby Storey and Billy Storey, both of Odessa.
