Furmon Davis Sr.

Odessa - Furmon Davis Sr., 93, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
Wake service will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the Martinez Funeral Home chapel.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Martinez Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Vernon Frank Davis and Furmon Davis III, both of Odessa, and Johnny Davis of Fort Worth; three daughters, Cora Holbert and Linda F. Ward, both of Odessa, and Billie J. Peyton of Fort Worth; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a loving nephew, Eddie White.
Services are entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home.

William Elmer Dossey

William Elmer Dossey, 90, former Burnet Elementary School principal, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in Kingwood.
He taught at Sam Houston Elementary in 1952 and 1953 and then became the first principal of the new Burnet Elementary in 1954. Mr. Dossey was the only principal Burnet had until his retirement in June 1980. He and his wife retired to Lake Brownwood in 1984. They moved to Kingwood (near Houston) in 2001. Mr. Dossey is survived by his wife of 64 years, Myrtle Dossey, who was also a long time Odessa teacher; most of her career was spent teaching second grade at Dowling Elementary. Mr. and Mrs. Dossey each had 38 year public education careers in the state of Texas.
Mr. Dossey was born on Aug. 17, 1914, in Evansville. He graduated from Donie High School in Donie. He received his bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville and then later earned his master’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin. His brother, Ray Dossey, also retired from the ECISD as assistant principal of Nimitz Junior High School and still resides in Odessa. His niece, Gloria Phillips, is a teacher at Permian High School.
Mr. Dossey is also survived by three sons, all graduates of Permian High School, Elmer Lynn and his wife, Tami Dossey, of The Colony, Lee and Bea Dossey of Kingwood, and Byron and Marsh Dossey of Arcadia, Okla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Other survivors include brother, Ray Dossey of Odessa, Floy Little of Mexia, and Jonell Thompson, of Arlington.
His parents, two sisters, Lorene Hand and Billie Jean King, preceded him in death.
Funeral Services are being held at 1 p.m. today at Cleburne’s Crosier Pearson Mayfield Funeral Home Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery near his parents, William A. and Ara Dossey. Arrangements are by Cleburne’s Crosier Pearson Mayfield Funeral Home.

R.B. Martin Jr.

Amarillo - R.B. Martin Jr., 77, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Amarillo.
Services were held Monday at Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Mr. Dick Marcear officiating. Interment was Memory Gardens cemetery.
Mr. Martin was born in Aspermont on Jan. 6, 1928, to Robert B. and Grace Martin. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1945. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard from 1950 through 1954. He married Joyce M. Reeves on July 7, 1979. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was high priest in 1973, as well as post commander in 1996 of post no. 955 in Odessa. He was also a member of the El Paso Scottish Rite. He was the owner and operator of Capulin RV Park in Capulin, N.M. He was a real estate broker for New Mexico Land and Cattle Company from 1995 to 1997. He moved to Amarillo in 2002 from Springer, N.M. He attended Church of Christ at the Colonies. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa.
His survivors include his wife, Joyce M. Martin of Amarillo; four sons, Bruce Martin and Bryan Martin, both of Odessa, Jeff Charter of Amarillo, and Michael Hobbs of Springer, N.M.; four daughters, Sheral Freeman of Odessa, Debra Clayton of Tulsa, Okla., Brenda Weathers of Statesboro, Ga., and Kathy Grove of Amarillo; one sister, Becky Carsby of Oklahoma City; 18 grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial are to be sent to BSA Hospice Olivia’s Angels, PO Box 950, Amarillo, Texas, 79105-9975.
Services are entrusted to N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Mary Nan Payne

Midland - Mary Nan Payne, 76, peacefully went to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 24, 2005.
She was born June 21, 1928, to Hugh Ratliff and Ophelia Ward Ratliff in Odessa. After graduating Odessa High School, she attended Texas Tech. On April 3, 1954, she married Davis Payne. They lived abroad and in Hobbs, N.M., before settling in Midland were they started their own business. They were blessed with two children, Nancy and Garry. The couple had recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mary Nan was a member of First Baptist Church in Odessa and attended First Presbyterian Church of Midland. She lived a rich full life as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was blessed with many friends. Her special delight included all sporting events, especially football. She was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Nan is survived by her husband, Davis Payne of Midland; son, Garry Payne of Midland; daughter, Nancy Stacks of Midland; and two grandchildren, Rachel Kathleen Payne of Stephenville, and Gregory Merrick Stacks of Austin.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home today between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jack McIntire, Jay Dick Kerr, Tom Perry, Jr., Dee Rose, Bud Marshal and Scott Vaughn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486 or First Presbyterian Church Deacon’s Fund, 800 W. Texas, Midland, Texas 79701.

Orville D. ‘Nig’ Hale

Abilene - O.D. Hale, of Abilene, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Big Spring. He was 79 years old.
Services will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South in Abilene Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Norman Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Albany. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
O.D. was born on May 27, 1925, in Albany to William Claude and Bamah Barham Hale. O.D. was raised on the Brazos River in Lueders, the youngest of 12 children. He attended high school in Albany.
At the age of 18, he followed an older brother’s lead, and enlisted as a paratrooper in World War II. O.D. served as a Screaming Eagle in the 101st Airborne Division. He was in the second platoon of Easy Company, the 506th parachute regiment. While serving his country, O.D. took part in D-Day, the Invasion of Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge, and was part of the Army of Occupation.
After the war, while working as a projectionist at the Aztec Movie Theater in Albany, O.D. met and fell in love with the popcorn girl. He married Betty Jane Sauer on June 24, 1948, in Abilene. They were married for 56 years.
As a young husband and father, he worked as a serviceman for Halliburton in South America and in the United States. He later worked for Guiberson Division of Dresser Industries in Louisiana and Texas. He was owner and operator of B and N Equipment before his retirement in Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers; and 5 sisters: Elvis D. “Lefty” Hale, Hardy Jim “B” Hale, Jesse “Shag” Hale, Maurice Miller, and Raymond “Rake” Hale, Exa Lee Freeman, Joyce Shanks, Lillian White, Louise Castles, and Verlyn Aycock. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Keith Michael; and son, Kim Patrick Hale.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Hale of Abilene; son, David Hale of Abilene; daughter, Jan Moore and husband, David, of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Shelli Hale of San Angelo; grandchildren, Lacy Moore, Kelly Moore, Kevin Moore, Matt Hale and wife, Christy, and Cassie Hale; and great granddaughter, Taylor Moore. He is also survived by one sister, Letty Sides Thompson of Granbury, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deral Dean Head

RANKIN - On January 23, 2005, Deral Head’s life ended as we knew it and he returned to his creator. He was born on August 18, 1948 and was a beloved son, brother, and uncle. Rankin was home for the past 34 years as he taught mathematics in the high school. Over the years he received many awards for his teaching accomplishments. He was truly a teacher at heart.
Deral was preceded in death by his father, Joseph T. Head.
He is survived by his mother Loney Montgomery; a sister, Jo Ann Mason; a niece, Terressa Cortez; and a nephew, Carl Mason. He is also survived by five grandnieces and one grandnephew.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Rankin at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2005, with Reverend Jim Medley officiating.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 27, 2005, at the Church.
A memorial scholarship fund will be set up at the First State Bank of Rankin or donations may be taken to the Rankin High School.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Joletta Taylor

Midland - Joletta Taylor, 71, longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Kerrville after a lengthy illness. Joletta was born May 28, 1933, in Weatherford to J. G. and Beulah Taylor. She moved with her family to Odessa in 1943. She was a member of the Eisenhower Church Of Christ.
Joletta was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Clovis Taylor in WWII and Robert Taylor of Odessa.
She is survived by brothers, Duane Taylor and wife, Laura, and Dearl Taylor and wife, Joann, both of Odessa; sisters, Glenda Haynie and husband, Louis, and Jeri Noe, both of Odessa, Frances Dumond and Leona Wimberley and husband, W. L., both of Junction, and Eunice Wittie of Stevenville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with Burt Groves officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Edgewater Nursing Home, Hospice of Kerrville and Dr. J. H. Doran of Odessa for all their wonderful care.

Clyde Eugene Tisdale

Odessa - Clyde Eugene Tisdale, 91, a longtime resident of Odessa passed away Monday, January 24, 2005, at Manor Park in Midland.
He was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Red River County. He married Nancy Elder Oct. 19, 1932, she preceded him in death April 11, 2004. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge no. 955 and First Methodist Church. He retired after 37 years of service as Superintendent of Odessa Natural Gas Company.
He is survived by his sons, Barry Tisdale and wife, Helen, of Midland, Marion ‘‘Snook’‘ Tisdale and wife, Mary, of Abilene; daughter, Jane T. Smith of Odessa; brothers, Aubrey Tisdale and wife, Maxine, of Amarillo, and Johnny Tisdale and wife, Mary, of Littlefield; sisters, Loy Sherry of Bakersfield, Calif., Irma Leta Box and husband, Ray, of Bangs, and Eurita Swanner and Lenora Massey and husband, Wayne, both of Plainview; eight grandchildren, Mike Tisdale, Mark Tisdale, Dan Tisdale and Leah Gordon, all of Midland, Jana Horton and Lori Gray of Odessa, Bryan Tripp of Dallas, and Andy Tisdale of Hurst; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; also sisters-in-laws, Vera Tisdale of Plainview, Thelma Jo Tisdale of Sundown, and Joan Tisdale of Amarillo.
Clyde never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Linvel Tisdale officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Mark Dan, and Andy Tisdale, Bryan Tripp, Kevin Gray, Don Horton and Jeff Gordon.
Family suggests memorials may be made to Meals On Wheels or the Shiners Hospital.

Harrell Wayburne Brown

Odessa - Harrell Wayburne Brown, 70, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Heritage House Nursing Home in San Angelo. Harrell grew up and was educated both in Andrews and Odessa. He was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Olney to Ulysses S. Grant Brown and Lena Mae Hughes.
“What Is A Father?” He is a vessel of worship unto God. He is wisdom and understanding. He is power under control. He is compassion for the weak. He is an example of God’s love. But, most of all, he is a son of the King And can do all things, when he draws his strength from God.
Harrell is survived by his son, Dan Brown of Odessa; daughter, Tranna Brown of Odessa; grandsons, Steven Daniel Brown, Greggory Allan Bryan and David Bryan, all of Odessa; brother, Chubby Brown of Oregon; sisters, Mary Henry of Clyde, and Willie Grace Bright of Longview; niece, Betty Orsak of San Angelo; ex-wife, Donna Brown of Odessa; mother-in-law, Ruby Osburne of Odessa; and best friend and faithful pet, ” Tuffy”.
Graveside Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Ivan J. Griesemer

Odessa - Ivan J. Griesemer, 66, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at the Hospice House.
He was born Feb. 11, 1938, in Bridgeport, Ill. He was a retired Captain for the Odessa Fire Department where he had worked for 30 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge no. 955. He was a former member of the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his daughter, Misty Griesemer of Lubbock; brothers, Dale Griesemer of Bridgeport, Ill., Omer Griesemer of Olney, Ill.; sisters, Norma Griesemer, Ethyl Griesemer, Helen Griesemer, and Garnet Griesemer, all of Bridgeport, Ill.
Masonic Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Hospice House for taking such good care of Ivan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice House.
