Charlotte Ann Whitehead Horne
Odessa - Charlotte Ann Whitehead Horne, 62, of Monahans, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 28, 2005.
She was born July 27, 1942, in Sweetwater, Texas, to J. E. and Murial Whitehead.
Charlotte graduated from Odessa High School, attended Hardin Simmons and received her bachelor’s degree in Education from Sul Ross State University.
She married
her husband, Wade, on August 20, 1966, in Alpine. She spent many years teaching children in Crystal City, Lamesa, Balmorhea and Monahans.
Talented musically and artistically and with a great love for others, Charlotte worked with youth groups in numerous churches, sang in choirs and musical performances, created many gifts of artwork and, with her husband, Wade, did missionary work in Colorado. She was a faithful Baptist all her life and brought many to Christ. She viewed this as her mission, especially when she was
confined to bed in her last years. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church
in Monahans. Her smiling face and laughing ways will be missed by many who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Lyndol Wade Horne; her mother, Muriel Whitehead; her foster daughter, Glory Willeford of Yorktown, Texas; three foster grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her brother, Gary Whitehead and wife Jill of Odessa; nieces, Quincy Whitehead and Kacy Tierney and husband Tom; great-nieces, Niamh and Ailish Tierney; sister-in-law, Jane Whitehead of Dallas; brothers-in-law, Darrell Horne of Poway, California, and Dayton Horne of Andover, Connecticut; uncle, Hazen Niles of Windham Center, Connecticut; and her beloved dog, Joyous Noel.
The family would like to thank Charlotte’s many caregivers at Medical Center Hospital, Dr. Doran, Peggy Harbin and Pat Knight of Monahans and especially the loving and compassionate professionals at Deerings Nursing Home and Odyssey Hospice for their outstanding care.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, January 30, 2005.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday,
January 31, 2005, in the
Chapel with Pastor Craig Rhoton of Monahans officiating.

Virginia Lee Hollingworth
LITTLE ROCK - On Jan. 27, 2005, our Lord sent down His band of Angels to pick up the leader of His choir, Virginia Lee Hollingworth, 79, of Little Rock, to spend eternity playing and singing His holy praise.
Virginia Lee Hollingworth was born on June 24, 1925, in Mt. Home, Ark., to W. Fay and Jewell Tracy Nelson.
Virginia was a long- term member of Life Line Baptist Church. Virginia was retired from Arkansas State Teacher’s Association as music director after 25 years of service. She was an inspiration to many of the people she came in contact with.
She had a loving and giving heart and was loved by all.
She was happily married
for 51 1/2 years to Ramon J. Hollingworth who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Raellyn Cockerham of Bryant; and her son, Hal O. Hollingworth of California; three grandchildren, Brandi Henson and family of Little Rock, Nacole Robinson and family of Malvern and Robert Cockerham Jr., and family, of Mayflower; her sister, Carolyn Griffith and family of Mt. Home; her brother, William Nelson and family of Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A graveside service will be at noon, Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. LaDon Chancellor officiating.
Open viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home Southwest (501) 455-5800.

Hilta Pool
Odessa - Hilta Pool passed away January 28, 2005, in her home surrounded by her family and friends.
Hilta was born August 24, 1933, in Delta, Mo. She moved to Odessa with her family early in her life and remained an Odessa resident the remainder of her years.
She married
her high school sweetheart, Neal Pool, on November 11, 1950.
The two of them started Neal Pool Rentals in the mid-50s, and in 1963, they expanded into the towing business; henceforth, the start of Neal Pool Rekers. They shared responsibilities of operating the businesses together until the untimely death of Neal in 1975.
Upon Neal’s death, Hilta, along with her son, Mike, continued to operate the towing business and bring about its growth. The towing and recovery business was her life, and even though Mike and his family are now running the business to which she dedicated her life, Hilta’s enthusiastic spirit and dedication will continue.
Surviving are her son, Michael “Mike” Neal Pool and his wife, Shelley; four grandchildren, Kristi-Jo Roe and husband Nathan, Jaymie Pool, Joshua Purcell and wife Patricia and Jeremy Purcell; sister, Neeta Woods and husband Bobby; two nieces, Vickie Purcell and Teresa Johnson and husband Kye; and one nephew, Terry Woods. Great-nieces and nephews that were also a very dear part of her life include Tyler and Lexi Nutter and Joey Stone.
Hilta was preceded in death by her parents, Ninnia Pruett Terrell and James W. Rouse; daughters, Shirley Diane and Donna Gayle and husband Neal.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at the Odessa/
Ector County cemetery with the Reverend Griffin Jones officiating.

Raul Ramon Navarette Ortiz
Odessa - Raul Ramon Navarette Ortiz, 41, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday January 25, 2005, at his residence.
He was born September 11, 1963, in Pecos, Texas, to Julian A. Ortiz and Gloria Navarette. He was a Christian and worked in the Construction Industry.
He was preceded in death by his Father Julian A. Ortiz; sister, Jessica Ann Young; grandmother, Josefina N. Ortiz, and great-grandmother, Concepcion L. Navarette.
He is survived by his Mother, Gloria N. Ontiveros of Odessa; four brothers, Alfredo N. Ortiz of Odessa, Julian N. Ortiz of Alta, Iowa, Domingo N. Ortiz of Odessa and Daniel N. Ortiz of Odessa; five sisters, Nellie O. Mata of Odessa, Belen O. Ramos of Porterville, Calif., Gloria O. Rodriguez of Odessa, Jessie A. Young of Odessa and Jesusita Young of Odessa; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and lots of friends.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, January 30, 2005, at the Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Ortiz will then lay in state at The House of Prayer Baptist Church located on the corner of Clements Ave and S. Broughton St. from Monday, January 31, 2005, until the service time at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005. The Reverend. Joe Angel Morales will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Medrano, Luis Mata, Fermin Mata, Jamie Munoz, Jose Munoz and Lee Roy Serrano.

Edith Estelle Ward
Midland - Mrs. Edith Estelle Ward, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Red Oak.
She was born Feb. 23, 1913, in Oklahoma to James and Lela Fults. Edith married
Henry Sircy Ward on Nov. 27, 1932, in Lamesa.
“Mamaw” enjoyed spending her time making quilts, cooking for family and attending Belmont Baptist in Odessa, where she was an active member and a teacher in the primary department for many years. She had attended church at Belmont since the late 1940s. An avid fisherwoman, Edith also enjoyed spending time with family at Lake Amistad, near Del Rio. We all enjoyed many fond memories with family during these special times.
She is survived by her children, the Rev. James E. Ward of York, Pa., and Kenneth R. Ward of San Antonio, and Mary Estelle Landrum of Red Oak. Edith and Sircy also raised three nephews and a niece, Don Judd of Dallas, the late Jesse Ward, Forrest Ward of Amarillo and Brenda Hodge of Saginaw. Also surviving her are 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Mary Harman of Dallas and Jimmie Covington of Huntsville, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 30, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa. The graveside rites will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Her son, the Rev. James E. Ward will officiate the service and will be assisted by Dr. Roger Ward, grandson.

Versie L. Burnes
Odessa - Funeral services for Mrs. Versie L. Burnes were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Bethel Assembly of God in Shreveport, La. with the Revs. Mike Whatley and Dewayne Stott officiating. Burial will be Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Mrs. Burnes was born in Cravens, La. on Feb. 12, 1918, to the late Henderson and Nettie Isabelle James Calhoun. She passed from this life on Jan. 28, 2005, in Shreveport, La.
Mrs. Burnes is survived by her brothers, James W. Calhoun of Shreveport, Jesse Calhoun of Ceres, Calif.; sisters, Patsy Ratcliff and Dorothy Bruce, both of Texarkana, Ark.; numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special niece Joyce McCoy.
Nellie Blanche Nunley
EASTLAND - Nellie Blanche Nunley, 88, of Graham, Texas, passed away, Jan. 27, 2005.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Roberts officiating. Interment followed at Eastland cemetery, under the direction of the staff of Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nunley was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Floydada. She married
Carl Bowman Nunley July 3, 1935 in Carbon. She was a resident of Odessa for over 30 years.
She was a dealer for Stanley Home Products in Big Spring and worked for the Dunlap’s Department store in Odessa for over 20 years. She enjoyed fishing for many years at Possum Kingdom Lake and doing work for her church in Odessa. She has been a member of the Church of Christ since 1943.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Bowman Nunley and a sister, Faye Croker of Big Spring.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Billy Tolleson of Possum Kingdom Lake; one sister, Inez Smith of Wichita Falls; one brother, Alvin Whitaker of Rush Springs, Okla.; and four nephews.
Memorial may be made to the cancer society, heart association, or the Alzheimer’s association.
Edith Agnes Skelton Towery
Odessa - Edith Agnes Skelton Towery passed away on Jan. 31, 2005, at the age of 91 years old in Luling.
Mrs. Towery was a long time resident of Odessa and had moved to Luling to be near her daughters in December 2004. Mrs. Towery was a partner with her husband, Alton in missionary work in Odessa called Operation Blessings. Mrs. Towery was quite the lady who loved her Lord, husband and children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Eugene Towery, who died March 12, 2004; and her son, Donel Towery in 1998.
She is survived by her sister, Vera Estepp of Waxahachie; daughters JoAnn Alexander of Fort Worth, Wanda Jean Sweatt and son-in-law, Kerry Sweatt, of Leakey, and Joyce Williams of Luling; and daughter-in-law, Vicki Towery of Branson, Mo. Mrs. Towery also has 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces; and nephews.
The family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Cecil Robinson, a long-time friend, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Wanda Davis
Odessa - Wanda Davis, 62, of Odessa, passed away Feb. 2, 2005, at Regency Hospital of Odessa.
Wanda was born on Nov. 13, 1942, in Goldsmith to her father, Raymond Jefferson Watkins, and mother, Minnie Lee Henry Watkins. She worked in retail sales. She was Baptist and she had lived most of her life in Odessa.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents.
Wanda is survived by her son, Jay Davis of Midland; three daughters, Melissa Cravey and husband, Ladd, Sheri Harrison and Deborah Cates, all of Odessa. She is also survived by her brother, James Watkins and wife, Audrey, of Gardendale; and sister Ramolee Culbertson of Alaska. She also has five grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Graveside services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clydell Chapman officiating.
