Margarette Faye Darley
Odessa - Margarette Faye Darley, passed peacefully in her home on Feb. 2, 2005, surrounded by family and friends, after her long and courageous battle with cancer. To know her was to love her and she will be deeply missed.
She was born March 5, 1942, in Little River, Ark. She was married
to her loving husband, of 45 years, Elgin Locker Darley on July 21, 1959. She worked at a one hour cleaners for many years before returning to her love of being a homemaker to her loving family.
She is survived by her husband, Elgin L Darley of Odessa; son, Deoma E Darley and his wife, Tammy, of Odessa; daughters, Amber Newbrough and her husband, Shane, of Odessa, and Karen Throckmorton and her husband, Mike, of Grandview; brothers, Brownie Green and Frank Green, both of Tyler, and Preston Green of Alabama; sister, Dorothy Walker of Ashdown, Ark.; grandchildren; Mick Anthonee and Mason Elgin Newbrough; step grandchildren, Tyler and Amber Zugg; and several nieces.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jay Mayo officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be LaCour Clark, James Cotton, Les Hubbard, Brain Seale.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the entire Odyssey Team for their great help, love and compassion. Also a special thanks to Dr. Kazor and Dr. Khandelwal for their continue efforts and kindness.

Joe Carlton Halifax
Odessa - Joe Carlton Halifax, 57, of Odessa, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in Abilene.
Memorial Service will be at 10 a.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa with Kellam Colquitt officiating. Cremation arrangements are by Community Memorial Funeral Home in Abilene.
Joe was born Nov. 14, 1947, in Odessa to Joe Earnest and Thelma (Acuff) Halifax. He grew up in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1966. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1970 and returned to Odessa. He worked as a consultant for the oil business for many years, but he had most recently worked for Walker Air Conditioning as a technician. Joe loved hunting and fishing, and spending time with his grandsons.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Halifax of Odessa; a son, Coby Halifax of Plano; three daughters, Loren Halifax of Kansas City, Mo., and Carmen Halifax Money and Shannon Reffner, both of Abilene; a sister, Janeen James of Abilene; and three grandsons, Jaxson Money, Max Money, and Josh Reffner, all of Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Earnest Halifax.

Malton Dale Smith
Midland - Malton Dale Smith was born on Oct. 19, 1932, to Sibian and Flora Tompkins Smith in Antlers, Okla. With his loving family at his bedside, Dale departed this earth for his heavenly home on Monday, Jan. 31, 2005.
Dale served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army First Armored Division from 1953 until 1955. Following an honorable discharge, he made his home in Midland. On Oct. 5, 1956, Dale married
Marilyn Jo Brewer. Their marriage was blessed with love and friendship for 48 years. Dale’s greatest treasures were his wife, children, family and circle of friends.
Following eight years of employment with C.H. Brockett and 24 years with F.C. Stickney, Dale opened his own business, “Dale Smith Trucking” in 1988. Dale’s professional life was characterized by his well deserved reputation for hard work, honesty, and integrity.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Jeff Alan Smith.
Dale is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jo Smith of Midland; and three sons, Trenton Dale Smith and wife, Cindy, of Fort Stockton, Clinton Blake Smith and wife, Peggy, of Bastrop, and Kelly Scott Smith of Midland. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jessica Smith Glenn and husband, Heath, Dustie Breeze Smith, and Clayton Daniel Smith, all of Midland, Trenton Dale Smith II and wife, Tamara, of Marble, Wash., Veronica Smith McDowell and husband, Ross, and Felicia Smith, both of Medford, Ore., Christy Lynn Jackson of San Angelo, Cliffton David Smith and wife, Jenna, of Von Ormy, Windi Fickling Davidson and husband, Daniel, of Poteet, Stacie Jo Smith and Justin Ashby, both of Bastrop, and Corporal Chad Ashby of the U.S. Army; and ten great-grandchildren.
Dale is also survived by four siblings: George Smith and wife, Bernice, of Gladewater; Maxine Faulkner and husband, Curtis, and Kathleen Clark, both of Antlers, Okla., and Margaret Smith of Dallas. Also very dear to his life were sister-in-laws, Arvela Wade and husband, Tony, of Midland, Gay Celcer and husband, Chuck, of Admore, Okla.; brother-in-law Gerald Bob Brewer and wife, Bertha; and many nieces and nephews.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Midland; the staff of Allison Cancer Center; and to Dale’s doctors: David Watkins, Michael Dragun and James Corbin.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.

Travis Luther Surratt
Odessa - Travis Luther Surratt, 57, passed away at Nocona General Hospital Monday, Jan. 31, 2005. His father and cousin were at his bedside.
Travis was born on June 10, 1946, in Hobbs, N.M. He attended Odessa Schools until the ninth grade. He played on the teams of little league and pony league baseball during that time. He graduated from Stinnett High School, and then attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He moved to Dallas to begin his career. Eventually, he moved to Nocona to launch a highly successful self-employed business until his untimely death.
He is survived by his parents of Odessa; his sister, Laura Jeanne Joiner of Arlington, many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Travis will be sadly missed by us all. Travis had a wonderful personality and made friends easily.
A special memorial service will be held in Dallas honoring Travis by his many friends and colleagues there.
Graveside services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Helen Allen Williams
Monahans - Helen Allen Williams, age 87, the daughter of pioneer rancher, Glenn Allen and Helen Daggett Allen, died at her home in Monahans, on January 31, 2005. Helen was a descendant of Capt. Ephriamm Daggett, known as the “Father of Fort Worth”. She was raised in Ector County on the Lazy R Ranch near Prairie Home, between Penwell and Monahans, and in Odessa. She lived nearly her entire life on the Lazy R Ranch or in Monahans. In 1936, Helen married
Frederic Lee “Bud” Williams Jr. who preceded her in death in 1975.
Helen is survived by sons, Allen and wife, Charmaine, Joseph and wife, Nancy; daughters, Helen Ann McDaniel and husband, J. W, Madeline McLain and husband, James, Loretta Shumway and husband, Steve, and Mary Watt and husband Dick; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Helen was a devoted member of St. John Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church in Monahans, and was known to many through her work at the church thrift shop, St. Vincent de Paul. She was also active in the Monahans community where her recent activities included the Ward County Archives, Meals on Wheels, and the Ward County Hospital Auxiliary.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Family Funeral Services, 306 S. Bruce St., Monahans.
A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at St. John Catholic Church in Monahans. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Saint John Catholic Church, 500 South Ike St., Monahans, followed by interment at the Monahans Memorial cemetery, under the direction of Family Funeral Services, Jackie Harkey, director.
Helen’s children express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Uvelia Miranca, Yvonne Contreras, Jo Carroll and Anishia Babcock for their kind assistance to their mother over the last few months.

Allie Moselle Williams
Odessa - Allie Moselle Williams, 91, a long time resident of Odessa passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2005, at her home where she lived with her husband, of 58 years.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a life time member of the Eastern Star. She also served as a Pink Lady when she was able and enjoyed helping other people.
She is survived by her husband O. R. Williams of Odessa; three brothers, O. L. Steveson and C. H. Steveson, both of Odessa, and G. C. Steveson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Juanita Dubose of Odessa, and Daisy Page of Coleman; numerous nieces; and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clydell Chapman officiating.

Nieves Andujo Jr.
Odessa - Nieves Andujo Jr., 19 years of age, passed away on January 5, 2005 in Odessa, Texas.
He was born on October 1, 1985, in Lake Jackson, Texas.
He is survived by his parents, Nieves Andujo Sr. and Yolanda Andujo; brothers, Reynaldo Andujo of Falfurrias and Fernando Aldujo of Odessa; sisters, Emily Andujo of Odessa and Arlene Vargas Bermudez of Fort Wainwright Alaska; paternal grandparents, Alfonso and Emilia Andujo of Mexico; maternal grandparents, Jose Luis Ayala of Brownsville and Josephina Serrata of Victoria; girlfriend, Tiffany Salcido and their baby to be of Odessa.
He was looking forward to becoming a father and husband. He was loved by all who knew him and admired for his bravery and kind heart. He was a loving son, brother and friend and touched the lives of many. He would have been a great father to his un-born child as expressed by him on many occasions. His life had just begun. He was taken from us too soon, but his memory will always stand strong in the hearts of the numerous who loved him. He will be truly and greatly missed. “We love you, Nieves.”
A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Uecker officiating.

Billie Louise Bryant
Franklin, N.C. - Billie Louise Bryant, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend, passed from this world to a better on Jan. 6, 2005. Her faith lit her life and the lives of those around her.
Mrs. Bryant was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Joshua, Texas, and lived in Franklin, N.C., for five years.
She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Horace Doyle Bryant; sons, Thomas Bryant, Joe Edd Bryant and James Connally; parents, Ira Thomas and Mae Ella Elliott; brother, Jimmy Elliott; and sister, Oleta Montgomery. We know that they were on hand to greet her as she left her pain behind.
She left behind to carry on: her children, Leo and Betty Connally of San Angelo, Texas, and children, Tracey, Susan and Rick; Bill Connally of Kingsland, Texas, and children, Terry, Teresa, Linda, Lisa and Laura; Daughters of James Connally, Cheryl, Cende, Carla and Carrie; Judy and Stanley Arnold of Kermit, Texas, and sons, Bobby and Kenneth; Rodger and Mary Bryant of Stuarts Draft, Va., and children, Joe, Wanda, Rhonda and Donna; and Bonnie and David Pickartz of Franklin, N.C., and sons, Stephan, Gerald and Toby; brother, Tom Elliott and wife Rose of Holliday, Texas; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bryant was a homemaker for much of her life, then embarked on a career as a cottage parent at a home for neglected and abused children. She made a difference in many lives there as she shared her values with these children. She was commended by the governor of Nevada for her years of unselfish service.
There will be a memorial gathering of friends and family to celebrate her life at her home in Franklin from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10.

Carlene Bryant
Odessa - Carlene Bryant, age 58, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
She was born June 23, 1946, to Carl and Mary Pontremoli in Odessa. She married
Billy Bryant in Lovington, N.M. They were married
for 33 years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Bryant of Odessa; sons, Randy Bryant and wife Kathy of Carlsbad, N.M., and Don Bryant of Midland, Texas; daughter, Shelly Bryant of Breckenridge, Texas; brother, Henry Carroll and wife Rhonda of Odessa; sisters, Sarah Bryant and husband Johnny of Odessa and Nancy Shuster and husband Jim of Spartanburg, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

Eva U. Garcia
PRESIDIO - Our beloved mother and grandmother, Eva U. Garcia, 89 years old, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at Santa Teresa de Jesus Catholic Church with the Rev. Lazaro Gonzalez officiating. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 9, 2005, at the church. Burial will be at Desert Hills cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1915, in Terlingua. She lived in El Mulato, Mexico, and Ojinaga, Mexico, before moving to Presidio in 1975. She then moved to Odessa in 2000. Besides being a homemaker, she worked in the fields around the Pecos area in the 1950s and ’60s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas Garcia, on April 15, 1991. They were married
in 1940. She was also preceded by three infant sons, Rene, Mundo and Adan; parents, Benito and Isidora Urias; brothers, Refugio Urias, Guillermo Urias, Alberto Urias, Jesus Urias and Francisco Urias; and sister, Paula Salcido.
