Warren ‘Jake’ Rhoads
ODESSA - Warren “Jake” Rhoads, 81, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born November 18, 1923, in Osage County, Okla. He married
Mary P. Willis June 8, 1948, in Odessa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Jake was co-owner of Waddell & Blank. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Rotary Club, Permian Bass Club, Broncho Booster Club, Medical Center Board, Odessa Savings Board and the Board of Realtors.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester C. and Mary Rhoads; and brother, David L. Rhoads.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Rhoads of Odessa; son, Donnie Willis Rhoads of Odessa; daughter, Rhonda Sue Rhoads of Odessa; and two grandchildren.
Elwenna Mae ‘Sis’ Chenault
ODESSA - Elwenna Mae “Sis” Chenault went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 15, 2005.
Sis was a longtime resident of Pecos, Texas. She was born October 19, 1919, in Taylor County to D.C. and Laura Doan. She married
Jack Chenault on September 28, 1946. They moved to Pecos in 1965 to open a Gibson’s store. Jack passed away on March 11, 1969 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Sis owned the store until she retired in January 1995.
She was a member of West Park Baptist Church and the Pecos Senior Citizens Center. She was generous and caring and loved by her many friends and family. Her favorite pastime was talking about or sharing time with her two grandchildren. She was there for every recital, event, or graduation. She enjoyed traveling and one of her favorite vacations was a cruise to Alaska that she took with her daughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers, Chris, Clayton, Billy D. and Don Doan; and the love of her life, her husband Jack.
Sis is survived by her daughter, Vicki and her husband Harold Horne; and her two grandchildren, Jacquelyn and her husband Jared Evans and Justin Horne.
Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2005, at the Pecos Funeral Home.
Church services celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2005, at West Park Baptist Church in Pecos, Texas.
Edwin Arnold
Midland - Edwin Franklin Arnold, of Midland, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005.
He was born Sept. 11, 1913, to Luther Franklin Arnold and Katie Mae Knox Arnold in Evant, Texas, and was raised and educated there and in Goldthwaite, Texas. Edwin entered the U.S. Army in 1940, and proudly served his country as a Rifleman in the Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and Central Europe Campaigns. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Edwin was wounded in Italy Feb. 12, 1944, and received an honorable discharge from service on Dec. 14, 1944. On Aug. 10, 1946, he married
Luella Groth in Dallas, Texas. Prior to his retirement, Edwin was a lab technician with Cosden Oil and Chemical Refinery in Big Spring, Texas. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Luella Arnold of Midland; son, Charles F. Arnold; brothers, Elton Arnold, Leroy Arnold, Marvin Arnold and Nolan Arnold; and sister, Norma McPherson.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor J.J. Leach officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park–North. Arrangements were under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Alvarez, Lester Higgins, Francis Strahal, Gene Butler, Bob Schlagal and Alton Gillit.

Homero Diaz
Odessa - Homero Diaz, 56 years of age, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at his residence in Odessa.
Homero was born June 12, 1948, in Alamo Coahuila, Mexico, to father Marcos Diaz and mother Felipa Agilera Diaz whom both preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Templo Ramanos with Pastor David Campos officiating with burial following at Ector County cemetery in the Rose Hill section.
He is survived by his wife Maria Diaz of Odessa; daughters, Edna Diaz and Maria Sanchez, both of Piedras Negras Coahuila, and Lorena Arelleno of Eaglepass, Norma Gallerdo, and Emilie Diaz, all of Odessa; sons, Marcos Diaz, Luciano Diaz and Ponceano Diaz, all of Piedras Negras, Coachuila, Mexico, Juan H. Diaz of Eagle Pass and Herbert Diaz of Garden City, Kan.; sisters, Francisca D. Ramos and Grasiela D. Hernandez, both of Zaragosa Coahuila, Mexico; brothers, Ponseano Diaz and Jose Diaz, both of Zaragoas Coahuila, Mexico; 43 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.
Wilburn Howard ‘Lem’ Lemley
Odessa - Wilburn Howard Lemley, 85, a longtime resident of Odessa, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at Hospice House Odessa.
He was born February 20, 1919, in Gillham, Arkansas, to Jeff and Verna Lemley. He married
Majol Leeper in 1946 and had three sons. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Halliburton Co. for 38 years retiring in 1985.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Drexel Lemley. He is survived by his wife, Majol of Odessa, sons, Gerry Lemley and wife, Sherri, of Midland, Tx., Joel Lemley and wife Shirley, of Blackwell, Tx. He also leaves behind a brother, Harold Lemley and wife, Rita, of San Jose California; and three grandchildren Chris Bone and his wife, Jennifer, and Tim Kirby and his wife, Jessica, of Midland, Tx., and Amber Hart and her husband, Angel, of Humble, Tx.; and four great grandchildren, Dylan, Faith, Carson Bone, and Jake Kirby.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2005, in the Chapel at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.

Trudy Offutt
ODESSA - In loving memory of our beloved mother, Trudy Offutt, “Mimi”: “May the Saints protect you and the devil neglect you” — an Irish blessing given to those who had the good fortune to know and love her.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 612 E. 18th St., at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2005.
Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and raised in Boston, Gertrude Desmond married
Harold H. Offutt on July 9, 1938. The couple moved to Texas in the 1940s and settled in Odessa in 1948, when her husband, a chemist, became production manager of the Sid Richardson Carbon Black Plant just west of Odessa. Harold Offutt — “Didi” — preceded Trudy in death in 1973.
Trudy and Harold have four sons: David Desmond, Lee Harold, Daniel Stephen and Robert Hayes. During her 57 years in Odessa, Trudy was active in her Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and in many civic and social events.
She owned and managed Homecorner Realty from the 1950s to the 1970s.
In addition to four sons, Trudy is survived by her four daughters-in-law, Donna, Sue, Beverly and Michelle; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edmund Desmond who still resides in Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Mary Alice Desmond, two brothers and three sisters.
Trudy’s family thanks Odyssey Hospice, Rhonda Thompson R.N. and Marcia Harvard — Mimi’s caregiver for the last four months of her life — for the love and care they gave so beautifully, and Judy Adams and Beverly Hendricks for being the Angels they are.
In lieu of flowers, Trudy requested donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Odessa, Texas.

Javier T. Martinez
Odessa - Javier T. Martinez, 33 years of age, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in Odessa from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Javier was born August 23, 1971, in Pecos to father, Ruben Martinez, and mother, Maria Josefina Tarango Martinez.
Visitation for Mr. Martinez will be today at Martinez Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Templo Buenas Nuevas with Pastor Rosario Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County cemetery in the Rose Hill Section.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his father, Ruben Martinez, and mother, Maria Josefina Martinez, both of Odessa; grandfather, Cornelio Martinez and step grandmother, Nancy Martinez, both of Van Horn; brothers, Ruben Martinez Jr., Orlando Martinez and Adrian Martinez, all of Odessa; sisters, Marisol M. Deleon and Selenna Martinez, both of Odessa; nephew, Aaron Deleon of Odessa; and nieces, Nevaeh Martinez, Kailyn Amber Deleon, and Mariah Alexandria Deleon, all of Odessa.
Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his grandparents, Felix O. Tarango and Josefina F. Tarango, both of Odessa; and grandmother, Ursala B. Martinez of Van Horn.
