ODESSA -- Ida Bethel, 89, co-owner of Public Scale Co., died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Philip McClarty officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Okay, Okla., and came to Odessa in 1935 from Kilgore.
Survivors: Son, Howard Bethel of Odessa; daughter, Judith Ann Walton of Evergreen, Colo.; brother, Jep Daniel of Seminole, Okla.; sister, Bernice Johnson of Waggoner, Okla.; sister, Laura Breece of Muskogee, Okla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
W.L. Carper
ODESSA -- W.L. "Tarz" Carper, 84, district superintendent for Phillips Pipeline, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in May 14, 1914, in Dennis, Kan., and came to Odessa from Borger in 1952. He was a Marine Corp veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors: Two nephews.
Salvador Matta
PECOS -- Salvador Pascual Matta, 61, a cook, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at his residence.
Rosary was said Friday night at Pecos Funeral Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at noon today at St. Catherine Church. Burial will be in Mount Evergreen cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
He was born in Balmorhea and was a resident of Pecos. He was Catholic.
Survivors: Sons, Salvador Matta Jr. and Gilbert Matta, both of Dallas, and George Matta of El Paso; daughter, Loraine M. Candelaria of El Paso; mother, Juanita Trujillo of Pecos; brother, George Matta Jr. of Pecos; sister, Corina Rule of Alamagorda, N.M.; and three grandchildren.
Lewie Montgomery
ODESSA -- Lewie Montgomery, 83, a retired owner and operator of Lewie Montgomery Trucking Co., died Thursday, May 28, 1998, in San Antonio.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip McLarty officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Mount Ida, Ark., and was a resident of San Antonio. He was Presbyterian.
Survivors: Wife, Iwana Montgomery of San Antonio; son, Jimmy Montgomery of Dallas; son, Doug Manor of San Antonio; daughter, Patsy Hunt of San Antonio; sister, Betty Dowell of Glenwood, Ark.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

KERMIT -- Maxine Sheffield, 71, executive secretary for the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.

She was born in Waurika, Okla., and was a resident of Odessa for 44 years.

ODESSA -- Thomas Paul Ambrose, 72, of Winters, a retired postal clerk, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Ballinger Memorial Hospital.

He was born in New York City and moved to Winters in 1992 from Odessa. He was Baptist.

She was born in Culleoka. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
