Dale E. Kelly
Odessa - After receiving Jesus Christ as his savior on Aug. 15, 2005, Dale E. Kelly passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at the Hospice House in Odessa.
He was born on May 12, 1933, in Neosho, Mo., to John E. and Maywood Beck Kelly. Dale, being the dedicated patriot at a young age, was talked into joining what he thought was the Boy Scouts by his cousin, Bob Scott, and ended up enlisting in the Arkansas National Guard at the age of 16 and went on to serve in the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Dale graduated from Rogers High School, Rogers, Ark. After much traveling and living in several different states, Dale moved to Odessa in 1985. He worked for JIMSCO Inc. retiring in 2000. Dale was a very giving man and loved his family and all of his friends at the American Legion of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Kelly and step-mother, Mary Francis and cousin, Beck Scott.
Dale is survived by his mother, Maywood Beck Kelly of Odessa; mother of his children and friend, Wanda Sue Ballard Kelly of Rogers, Ark.; daughter, Donna Jean Kelly Fair of Rogers, Ark.; sons, Dow E Kelly and wife, Sheila, of Odessa, and Dek E Kelly of Rogers, Ark.; grandchildren, Todd Allen Hudnall and wife, Heather, of Bentonville, Ark., and Sarah and Caitlin Kelly of Odessa; great-grandchildren, Connor, Kissondra and Allexus; cousins, Jim and Bob Scott, Larry Beck and Sue Fleming; and aunt, Opal Beck.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Rodgers officiating. There will also be a memorial service in Rogers, Ark.
The family would like to extend our appreciation to all the staff at Hospice House and Medical Center Hospital for all of their loving support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Hospice or the Hospice House of Odessa.

Jerry Edward Lee
Odessa - Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, Jerry Edward Lee, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 21, 2005.
He was born to Robert E. Lee and Ethelene Payne Lee in San Angelo, Texas, on October 6, 1942. He attended school in Ballinger, Texas, graduating in 1961. He married
Barbara Joan Cook on July 17, 1964, in Ballinger. Jerry worked in the car business in Odessa and Midland for over 30 years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a long time member of the Odessa Lions Club. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965. His hobbies were fishing, hunting and his beloved grandchildren.
His parents; one brother; and one sister preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; and three children: son, Jay and wife Karen of Midland, son, Jon and wife, Dawn, of Odessa; and daughter, Jera and husband Rob York of Springfield, Va. Jerry was the proud paw-paw of 8 grandchildren, Kendal Lee, Bréanna Lee, Alexas Lee, Bryson Lee, Connor Lee, Chase York, Morgan Drillen and Stormie Drillen; three sisters, Gloria Wagner and fiancé, Tom Follis, of Odessa, and Netha Newberry and Lagatha Wells, both of Ada, Okla. Jerry also had an extensive family of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins whom he never missed an opportunity to visit.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, August 23, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m.. Wednesday, August 24, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Doctor Mark Riley officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Weldon Hampton, Jack Jones, Ron Pumphrey, Larry Potter, Paul Cook and Travis Bollier.

Michael Weldon Johnson
LAKE BROWNWOOD - Michael Weldon Johnson, age 56, of Lake Brownwood, Texas, died March 25, 2005, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, at Rocky Creek cemetery with the Rev. Mike Patterson officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mike was born Oct. 15, 1948, in Crane, Texas. He graduated from Crane High School in 1967. Following graduation, he attended Odessa Community College. During the Vietnam Conflict, when his country called, he volunteered for service and spent four years in the U.S. Navy.
He held various jobs with oil companies, but his love for people and his caring heart and nature led him to his true calling as a nurse.
He was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church of Brownwood.
Survivors include two daughters, Ashley Faye Johnson of Arlington and Lindsay Erin Johnson of Odessa; one son, Marcus Guy Weldon Johnson of Abilene; his parents, James W. and Meta F. Johnson of Lake Brownwood; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dee and Vonna Johnson of Crane and Steve and Renee Johnson of Richmond; six nephews; two nieces; one great-nephew; and three great-nieces.
Stacy Stamps Whalen
Odessa - Stacy Stamps Whalen, 32, a homemaker, of Odessa passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born April 27, 1972, to Jerry Wade and Carol Stamps in Andrews.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Wright officiating. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Ann Stamps; and brother, Jerry Wade Stamps Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Carey Whalen of Odessa; sons, Jeffery Stamps and Joey Martin, both of Odessa; father and stepmother, Jerry Wade Stamps Sr. and Margaret Stamps of Odessa; sister, Cindy Stamps of Odessa, and twin sister Tracy Stamps King of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; brothers, Greg Stamps and Mark Stamps, both of Odessa, and Cory Morris of Kingsland; and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends and family.
Pall bearers for the service included: Jason Anderson, Dale McKinley, Wayne Anderson, Charlie Webb, Mark Stamps, Rob King, David Foreman and Ray Collins.
Stacy was a very special lady. She was loved by everyone whose lives she touched. She accepted everyone regardless of their status. A sweeter person will never walk this earth. The love of her life was her newly found best friend and husband, Carey, and she was his best friend and the love of his life. Stacy’s oldest son, Jeffery shared with the family how much he loves and misses his mother and recalls being his mom’s best friend at various times in their lives.
Stacy’s youngest son, Joey, always brought a smile to his mom’s face by saying she was the greatest mom in the world. Joey used to ask his mom if it hurt when she fell from heaven. Joey’s fondest memories are shooting pool with his mom.
Stacy’s twin sister, Tracy would like to express her most sincere appreciation to Stacy for being her best and sometimes only friend her entire life. Stacy was and still is her everything. Their unbreakable bond will be cherished for eternity. Tracy will forever love and miss her Stacy.
Stacy’s oldest sister, Cindy, expresses that she always envied Stacy. She wanted to be just like her. She learned so much from Stacy. She was her hero. Stacy will live forever in her heart.
Stacy’s brother, Greg, remembers all of the wonderful times that they spent driving around in her car, listening to music. He cherishes each and every memory of her.
Stacy’s dad and stepmother are so proud of Stacy. She is a precious daughter that has enriched the lives of all around her. She was a wonderful mother.
Gone is Stacy, but her memory lingers in the minds of the people whose lives she touched — forever.

Donald Thompson
Odessa - Donald Thompson, 74, of Odessa, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Hospice.
He was born May 30, 1930, in Portales, N.M., to Wesley and Mary Thompson. He received several football scholarships, and he played for Sul Ross College in Alpine. He served in the U.S. Marines in Korea. He also played football in the service and in the 1950s he played for the L.A. Rams. He married
Bonnie Franklin Oct. 16, 1976, in Mexico. He was employed as a custodian at the Head Start School and was a Baptist. He loved all the children at Head Start.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Thompson of Odessa; son, Craig Thompson of Odessa; two stepsons, Johnny Anders and Pete Anders, both of Stamford; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his faithful companions that stayed by his side, Puppy, Kelly, George W. and Monica.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 24, at Westside Apostolic Church, 2500 Tripp Ave., with Alan Harris officiating.

Symon ‘Zach’ York
Odessa - Symon “Zach” York, 14, of Gardendale passed away at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2005, in an automobile accident, in Gardendale.
He was born July 24, 1990, in Odessa. Zach enjoyed video games, computers, sports and music. He also played a violin, joined Tae Kwondo and was a 7th degree Orange Belt. He was very loving, sensitive and good hearted. Zach accepted Jesus in his heart at 8 years old. He loved Jesus, family and had many friends. He was always compassionate to someone hurting. He loved to tell jokes and make you laugh. When the wind blows, that’s God laughing at him. Zach you will always be loved, remembered and cherished by all you touched. We know you’re with Jesus.
He is survived by Herman, Lavon and Madison York, Kathy, Roy and Nathan Bobbit, William and Jordana Hodges, Steve York, Kyle and Scout, Byron and Christal Jordan, Jacob and Blake, Gene and Zan Boman; and many wonderful relatives whom we dearly love.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Saffle officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Morris Petty
Odessa - Morris Petty, beloved husband and father, entered into the arms of Jesus Christ March 8, 2005. He was born Nov. 2, 1920, to Ercel Earl Petty and Mildred Garland Huddle Petty in McMinnville, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mrs. Doy Herwig of Seattle, Wash.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellen Addalene Zugg Petty; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and William Utlser; son, Morris Petty Jr.; grandson, William Morris Utsler; cousin, Delpha Frazier of Dallas, Ore.; and brother-in-law, Rev. P.V. Zugg of Plano. He was Christian.
His Ancestors were mainly from England, Scotland and Switzerland. Some arrived on the Mayflower; others as the colonists of Long Island in the 1620s. They helped to settle New York, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and the Carolinas. His grandparents crossed the Great Plains to Kansas; some proceeded along the Oregon Trail to Yamhill County. They were industrious, God-fearing people who helped to establish this nation and make it great. His ancestors fought in the wars to preserve our nation, from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War to WWI and WWII. He spent his youth in Oregon and Washington State. He joined the U.S. Army in 1938, and in May of 1939 was sent to the Philippines with “B” company, 31st infantry. He returned home prior to the Japanese attack; many of his friends were on the Bataan Death March. His was the last ship which departed Pearl Harbor before it was attacked in 1941. He was reported as missing but he had already called his parents to let them know he was safe. He met his one true love, Ellen Zugg, while stationed at Midland Airfield in 1942. They were married
at Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa Oct. 30, 1942. During WWII he served in the Southwest Pacific, 65th bomb squad (H), 43rd Bomb Group (H). Once, after his plane was shot down over water, he was rescued by U.S. forces only minutes before the Japanese would have captured him. He helped to keep Australia free and saw action in places such as Formosa, New Guinea and Leyte in Indonesia. From 1948 to 1951, he was part of the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany. As part of the 60th troop carrier group in the Berlin Airlift he helped keep that city free from communism. He received a BA from the University of Maryland. He worked at the Pentagon. From 1956 to 1957, he commanded at Johnston Atoll in the South Pacific. He then commanded at McLelland AFB in Sacramento, Calif. He was a USAF Commander of the 25th Air Division at Duluth, Minn., from 1962 to 1965. From 1965 to 1968, he was the Chief USAF Jusmag in Athens, Greece. He was base commander at McChord AFB in Tacoma, Wash., until he retired in 1968 after 31 dedicated years of service to his country.
He continued serving people as the Warden of the Orange County Prison Farm in Orlando, Fla.; as the head of the Red Cross Chapter in Odessa in the early 1970s; and as the Chief Juvenile probation officer of the Ector County Youth Center under Judge Philip Godwin until 1978. He returned to school while working, earning a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from UTPB and later a Real Estate License from Austin Community College. He was a broker for Nolan Real Estate Company. He was a member of the American Legion and a 32nd Degree Mason of the San Antonio Lodge. Even though he met and talked to Presidents, Kings of various countries, and the Shah, he was always easy to talk to, and caring. He loved God and his family dearly, always placing them first in every consideration. He loved animals as well, and never denied a stray, even if it was an Emu or a Peacock. He was charitable and loved to read, especially the Holy Bible. He loved to travel and visited over fifty nations. He will be greatly missed as there is a great emptiness without him. He is no longer on this Earth but is forever in our hearts. We know that he will watch over us as he rests with our Lord and Savior.
We wish to thank the caring staff of the West Texas Cancer Center, especially Dr. Kaczor and Dr. Borra, as well as Dr. Shelton and the Staff at Medical Center Hospital and the H-E-B pharmacy staff, and the Rev. Pistone of the Door of Hope Mission.

Billie Lou Hufnagle
Canyon - Billie Lou Hufnagle, 84, of Canyon, passed away Monday, March 21, 2005, in Canyon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at the University Church of Christ with David Lough officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Claude cemetery in Claude with Bob Shepard, Elder and Bible Chair Director for University Church of Christ, officiating.
Billie Lou Hufnagle was born March 10, 1921, in Claude to Harry and Nellie Cobb Gilbert. She graduated from Clarendon High School and was a graduate of Texas Tech University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in Irving and Odessa for 17 years. During World War II, she was employed by Amarillo Air Force Base as a tools instructor. She was an avid genealogist and traveled many miles in search of family ancestors. Her book on the Gilbert family, published in 1981, is a very comprehensive and informative record of the many branches of the Gilbert family tree. She also wrote a history of the North Carolina Anderson White (1801 to 1885) family, published in 1983. She married
Blaine Hufnagle in Canyon April 28, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John H. Gilbert.

Dale Leverett
Odessa - Dale Leverett, 61, passed away Monday, March 21, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Odessa with the Revs. Orville Rogers and Charles Tapley officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Caleb Leverett, Rich Leverett, Jason Leverett, Jesse “Trey” Kirkland, Lindy Jones, Leroy Collier, Roland Gladden and Don Clark.
Dale was born Feb. 21, 1944, in Vernon. He was the eldest of four children. He married
Sherry Gwen Roberts June 5, 1964, in Odessa.
Dale was a true entrepreneur as he was an Industrial Developer, a Rancher, Hunter and recently developing a gated, residential community with his brother in Gardendale.
Dale is preceded in death by his father, Cletus Leverett.
Dale is survived by his wife, Sherry Leverett; son, Jody Leverett; daughters, Addie Christensen and her husband, Jesse Christensen, and Jami Langford and husband, Guy; four grandchildren, Sarah Kate, Addie Ann, Sydney and Weston Langford; mother, Carol Leverett; sister, Sherri Kirkland and her husband, Kirk; brothers, Wayne and his wife, Twilla, Shane and his wife, Debbie. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews; cousins; and two aunts.

The Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez Sr.
MIDLAND - The Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez Sr. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2005, in Midland, Texas.
He was born July 24, 1933, in Puerta de Tierra, Puerto Rico. He married
Benita Orona on Nov. 5, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years and was a Korean War Veteran. The Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez Sr. served in the United Methodist Church for 20 years as Pastor, District Superintendent and Conference Evangelist for the Rio Grande Conference.
He graduated from Perkins School of Theology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He received his Masters Degree of Divinity from Almeada University.
He moved to Midland in 1982, where he established The Glory of God Church (La Gloria de Dios) in 1983 and where he served as Pastor for 22 years. In 2003, I.C.F. Ministries ordained him into the office of Bishop. He also served as Senior Chaplain of the International Conference of Police Chaplains, representing the Midland Police Department under Chief Richard Czech and Chief John Urby.
His father, Saturino Peña of Puerto Rico, preceded him in death.
The Rev. Gonzalez is survived by his mother, Tomasa Peña of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; Benita O. Gonzalez, his wife of 50 years; his children, Hector Gonzalez Jr. and wife Deborah, Victor R. Gonzalez and wife Becky, Richard H. Gonzalez and wife Elizabeth, Brenda K. Hobson and husband Dale and the Rev. Dan H. Gonzalez and wife Esther. He’s also survived by his 12 loving grandchildren, Cherylle Henkel, Mona Garcia, Jonathan Gonzalez, John Rivera, Timothy Gonzalez, Michael Gonzalez, Talitha Gonzalez, Timothy Rivera, Christopher Henkel, Kristan Gonzalez, Cailen Gonzalez and Kendall Gonzalez, all of Midland, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters, Carmen Gonzalez Peña of Puerto Rico and Clarita Montalban of California, as well as two brothers, Carlos “Charlie” Gonzalez Rivera and Raul Gonzalez Rivera of Puerto Rico.
A Celebration Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Heart of Worship Christian Center. The church is located at 1500 E. University (corner of Maple & University) in Odessa, Texas.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, located at 1610 W. Wall in Midland, Texas.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
