Jeanne Frances Adami Driver

Odessa - Jeanne Frances Adami Driver, 72, of Houston, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1932, in Abilene, Texas. She married Richard Lee Driver on Dec. 28, 1954, in Mart, Texas.
Mrs. Driver graduated from Baylor University in May 1954 with degrees in English and Education. She was an elementary and junior high school teacher in Fort Worth, El Paso and Hearne and Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. She retired from teaching to raise her children. She moved to Odessa in June of 1959. She had been a member of the Sherwood Church of Christ and an active parent volunteer with the Burnet Elementary PTA, Hood Jr. High choir and Permian High School choir. She devoted her life to helping her husband and children.
Mrs. Driver is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Driver; and her son, Richard Lee Driver II.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jarrell and Leesa Janssen Driver of Midland; daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Mark Manion of Houston, and Jeanne Anne and Chris Mauck of Birmingham, Ala., and her daughter-in-law, Jean Pierson Driver of Longview, Texas; grandchildren, Robert, Jenni and David Manion, Richard and Rachel Driver, Kyle Driver and Chris, Courtney, Stephen, Shelby and Abby Mauck
The family will receive visitors from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Sherwood Church of Christ with James T. Smith and Lynn Money officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
If desired, memorials may be made to Sherwood Church of Christ, 4900 N. Dixie, Odessa, TX 79762.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Dennis Lee Fisher

Odessa - Dennis Lee Fisher, 58, of Odessa, went to the Lord, Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
Dennis was a U.S. Army, Vietnam Veteran and was so proud to serve his country.
A memorial celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with VFW Military Honors. Pastor James Bishop will officiate.
Dennis and wife, Martha, were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Odessa.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Fisher. His four sons, Shane, and his wife Sonia Snedecor and their children Sherri and Jimmy of Moyock, N.C., Dale Snedecor, of Fort Drum, N.Y., Cody Fisher, and Brian Fisher, both of Odessa. Two Grandsons, Kristofer and Zachary Snedecor, of Odessa. His mother-in-law, Wilma Eppolito of Rosenberg, Texas. Sister-in-law, Judy and her husband Mike Scherer, and their children, Justin and Julie of Rosenberg, Texas. Three sisters, Sharon and her husband Loyd Bateman, Joyce and husband Tom Davis, Sheila and husband Mike Skaggs, all of Dyersburg, Tenn. Five Brothers, Donald and wife Lillie Fisher, Bobby and wife Carolyn Fisher, Jerry and wife Carol Fisher, Terry and wife Yvonne Fisher, David and wife Barb Fisher all of Dyersburg, Tenn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A special thank-you to Dr. Khandelwal and all the angels at the West Texas Cancer Center, Dr. Darr and the angels at 5 Central-MCH, Doug, Elic, Richard, LeeAnn and the rest of the crew at Desert Industrial X-ray.

Joe Bowden

Odessa - Joe Bowden, 60, of Odessa, passed away Friday, April 29, 2005, at Odessa Regional Hospital.
He was born July 10, 1944, in Albuquerque, N.M. He was an artist. He graduated from Permian High School, Odessa Junior College (now Odessa College) and University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in art.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Mid-Cities Community Church. Arrangements were by Martinez Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenia Noilene Bowden; sons, Joseph Benjamin Bowden and Lawrence Grant Bowden, both of Dallas; daughters, Lavenia Jaunice Bowden of Odessa, Desiree Renee Bowden of Waco, and Ethanie Anastasia Bowden of Arlington; brother John William Bowden and wife Kathy and their children, Lisa, Kristy, Eddie Joe and Lori; sister Lynn Barrington of Brentwood, Tenn.; mother, Mary Lynn Bowden; and two grandchildren, Aaron Wayne Hurly and Sabastian Grant Bowden.

T.F. ‘Toby’ Franks

Odessa - Toby was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Chaneyville, La. He went to be with the lord Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital at the age of 69.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law to us all. He was a great friend to everyone. He loved to sit and visit with friends (Wayne and Nancy) and his cousins (Eddie and Teena). He loved to tell a good joke and loved his two small dogs (his babies) Paco and P.J. He will be dearly missed by all. WE love you Daddy and papaw, always.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sara of Odessa; his sons and their wives, Charlie and Vicki of Odessa, Foster and Thersa of Monroe, La., David and Lisa of Joaquin, and Donald and Peggy of Odessa; his daughters and their husbands, Judy and Bobby Smith of Odessa, Opal Franks of Joaquin, and Sheila and Bobby Cantrell and Louella Cornell, both of Green Ville Miss. He also has 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren, who will love him always and forever. You will be dearly missed and always in our hearts. God bless you, with all our love, love Charlie.
In loving memory of my husband and soul mate, I love and miss you dearly, love Sara.

Cleo Bryant Pate

Odessa - Cleo Bryant Pate, of Odessa, was born July 5, 1925, in Oklahoma. He passed away at the age of 79 years on Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Hospice House.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dick Brown officiating.
He is survived by three sons, Gary Pate and wife, Emma, of Floydada, Lonnie Pate and wife, Debra, and Wesley Pate, both of Odessa; and one daughter, Linda J. Henry and husband, Danny, of Odessa; one sister, Beatrice Savage of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Just for you dad, I love you.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; ” Let us rejoice in His love and be glad; the winds may be cold and the sun tends to fade but God is in control - how can I be sad? You are safe in His fold, praise his precious name. God loves with a love that’s both deep and true, a love unsurpassed, and yea, always the same. Rejoice! God cares for you this day too.

George Gary Tumlin

Weatherford - George Gary Tumlin, 52, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2005, in Weatherford.
He was born Nov. 15, 1952, in Odessa. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1973. Moving to Weatherford in 1975, he attended Weatherford Jr. College for two years and remained a resident of Weatherford for the rest of his life.
Gary was devoted to his two sons and his love for his family and friends was unwavering. Because of his love for and the relationship he had with the Lord Jesus Christ, Gary wanted a service at his passing to be one of celebration of this relationship, of his salvation and of his life.
The Lord gave Gary a true calling for a special musical witnessing ministry to people of all ages, especially to young people. Beginning in his early teens, Gary shared his testimony in words and songs in many churches, a prison ministry and even a trip to England, as part of his church’s mission. Gary was also associated with the Little People of America and led prayer and devotionals at many LPA meetings. He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church of Weatherford. Even with failing health, Gary never ceased to witness for his Lord.
Gary was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Roy and Susie Marie Roberts Tumlin.
Gary is survived by his two sons, Stephen Matthew Tumlin and Timothy Paul Tumlin, both of Weatherford; two sisters, Deloris Jo Webb of Odessa, and Mary Smart and husband, Glenn, of Weatherford; one brother, Ken Tumlin and wife, Brenda, of Odessa; one niece; two nephews; one great-niece; and one great-nephew. Gary leaves a multitude of friends made and held dear for many years.
The family will receive guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services have been scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at White’s Chapel of Memories in Weatherford. Burial will follow at Community Greenwood cemetery, west of Weatherford.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Smart, Cody Tumlin, Dustin Conklin, Greg Tankersley, Gary Peoples and Scott Maughan.
A trust fund has been set up at First National Bank of Weatherford, 220 Palo Pinto St., Weatherford, TX 760806, for Matthew and Paul Tumlin in the name of Mary Smart.

Ruby Mae Smith

Odessa - Ruby Mae Smith, 85, a longtime resident of Odessa, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2005.
Ruby was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Abilene to Charlie and Roxie Waldrop. She was married to Harvey Smith July 10, 1942, in Abilene. She attended Draughn’s Business School in Abilene. Ruby moved to Washington D.C., in 1940, where she worked as a secretary. She moved back to Abilene in 1942 to marry Harvey Smith. They owned and operated a restaurant, until they moved to Odessa in 1958. Ruby worked for Furr’s Cafeteria on Grandview for 26 years. She is remembered by many for her friendly manner and sweet smile. Ruby was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Carl Waldrop and C. R. “Pete” Waldrop; sisters, Linnie Waldrop, Beatrice Mayfield, Addie Black, Vivian Peavey and Alma Robertson.
She is survived by her brothers, Arthur Waldrop and wife Luva, Bill Waldrop and wife Faye; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friend, Dot Wheeler.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today, May 28, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
A special thanks to Avalon Nursing Home and Odyssey Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice.

Chief Rockie S. Tomahawk ‘Manuel Mendoza’ Mendoza

Pecos - Mr. Manuel “Rockie” S. Mendoza, beloved son, father and husband, passed away Friday, May 20, 2005. He was a longtime resident of Memphis, Tenn., and proud of his Native American Indian heritage and he was a professional truck driver all of his life. He is loved dearly and will be missed greatly.
He was born June 30, 1943, in Pecos and raised in Eunice, N.M., yet a native Texan.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. Polito C. Mendoza and Mrs. Antonia S. Mendoza of Pecos; one son, Mr. Blackie Gino Ray Mendoza of Odessa; three daughters, Velmina L. Mendoza of Odessa, Lisa Marrs of Carlsbad, N.M., and Sarina Mendoza of Los Angeles; one brother, Mr. Raymond S. Mendoza of Bedford; two nephews, also of Bedford; wife, Ann Mayo of Memphis, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Brenda Brunner and stepson, Steven Mayo, also of Memphis, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A rosary was said at Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos on Thursday, May 26, 2005. Mass was celebrated at Santa Rosa Catholic Church on Friday, May 27, 2005. Burial was at Evergreen cemetery and a reception was held at Santa Rosa Hall following burial.
Services are under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home.

Nina V. Ashcraft

Denver City - Graveside services for Nina V. Ashcraft will be at 10:30 a.m. today, May 13, at Denver City Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Brooks officiating.
Mrs. Ashcraft passed away Monday, May 9, 2005, following an auto accident in Stephens County.
She was born June 23, 1927, in Texarkana, Ark. She attended Texarkana High School. She married Johnny Ashcraft on Oct. 11, 1945. They moved to Pecos in 1948 and lived in several towns in the Permian Basin before settling in Denver City in 1956, where she was a homemaker and raised her family. She was active in the Denver City chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny; and adopted son, Timmy.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Susi Bickley and her husband, Mike, of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Parker of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; grandchildren, Melanie Greene and her husband, Andy, of Austin, T.K. Harrison and her husband, Blake, of Houston, and Josh Bickley of Denton; and great-grandchild, Caroline Greene; cousin and longtime business partner, Tearl Covington and his wife, Linda; neighbors, Jim and Debbi Birkenfeld and Cody and Calli of Denver City; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Denver City or to the Melanoma Unit of M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

Lydia A. Burre

Leavenworth, Kan. - Lydia A. Burre, 97, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan.
Lydia was born Oct. 9, 1907, in Leavenworth, Kan., to August Ode and Bertha Hettich Ode. On June 5, 1929, she married Karl E. Wikelski in Leavenworth, Kan. He preceded her in death May 3, 1978. She later married Anton W. “Tony” Burre Oct. 2, 1980, in Leavenworth, Kan. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1994.
Lydia taught school for three years in Leavenworth County, Kan. She was a homemaker. Lydia was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school, was the memorial chairperson for many years, was a member of the Ladies Aid for many years and was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also a longtime volunteer for the Cushing Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and one grandson, Craig.
Lydia is survived by her son, Karl “Sue” Wikelski of Odessa; her daughters, Delores “Bill” Landfair and Janet Lindgren, both of Dallas; five grandchildren, Todd, Timm, Shawn, Jeff and Terri; and five great-grandchildren, Joey, Freddie, Lydia, Steven and Lindsay.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ed Mease officiating. Burial was at Mount Muncie cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Seventh St. and Miami St., Leavenworth, KS 66048.

Chad Edward Campbell

Odessa - Chad Edward Campbell was born September 13, 1973, in Odessa to Prinny Ham and Tommy Campbell. God rescued Chad on May 7, 2005, in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Chad attended school in Odessa and graduated from Permian High School in May 1992, where he was on the varsity tennis team. Chad had great athletic abilities and played many sports excelling in tennis. He toured the U.S.T.A. tournament circuit and achieved a state ranking, during his high school years. After graduation, Chad worked in sales for various companies until his death. His big heart and bright smile will be forever etched in our memories. His mother will always remember him as most devoted and loving son to her. He will always and forever be a part of her. The love she had for her son knew no boundaries.
“You were a part of everything that I thought, and did, and felt. And when you were with me, I believe that anything was possible. Thank you, Chad, for the love you brought me, and taught me and thank you for the miracle of you….You are, and always will be the love of my life.”
“(Psalms 18: 16-19) He reached down from Heaven and rescued me; He drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me. He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because He delights in me.”
Chad was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Thelma “Nana” Barham of Odessa; paternal grandparents, Doris and Paul Campbell; and maternal grandmother, Rosemary Parks.
His survivors include his parents, Prinny and Doug Ham of Odessa, and Tom and Nancy Campbell of Midland; stepbrothers, Josh Ham and wife, Diane, and Justin Ham and wife, Jill, both of Midland; sister, Anna Campbell of Midland; aunts and uncles, Gina Farrell of Odessa, Les Ming of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Andy Campbell and Pat Campbell, both of Odessa; numerous cousins; his best friend, Mark Harcrow of Dallas; and his best dog-pal, “Reese.”

Oscar James Kniffen

MIDLAND - O.J. “B” Kniffen passed away Thursday, May 12, 2005, in Big Spring.
He was born April 30, 1916, to Oscar J. Kniffen and Roberta Richards Kniffen in Clyde and was raised and educated there.
On Sept. 4, 1937, he married Katherine Marie Neithercult. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. In 1976, he began the development of Kniffen Estates in East Midland. He loved spending time gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
“B” is survived by his sister, Madge Paulk of Hobbs, N.M., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555.
Honorary pallbearers are: Kevin Searcy, Danny Kellum, Joe Herman, Orville Dale Paulk Jr., Ronnie Paulk and Sanford Searcy Jr.
