Jim Griffin
Odessa - Jim Griffin, 61, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday morning, May 11, 2005, at his son’s residence in Logan, N.M.
Mr. Griffin grew up in Portales. On Aug. 1, 1959, he was married
to Norma Faye Luce. He made his home in Portales until 1990. During that time he had worked as a mechanic for several years. He was also employed by the City of Portales as a Sgt. on the Police Dept., and then served as Under Sheriff for Roosevelt County. For a time he was also a firefighter for the city of Portales. In 1990 he moved to Odessa to make his home. He had been employed by Flo CO2 as a transportation safety specialist, overseeing the transport of carbon dioxide to the oil fields. Mr. Griffin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
His survivors include his wife, Norma Faye Griffin of Odessa; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Janie Griffin of Carlsbad, N.M., and Jerry and Kim Griffin of Logan, N.M.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and Kenny Prince of Portales, N.M., Sheila and Paul Thornton, Michelle and Wayne Cheatham and Tracy and Robert Allen all of Hobbs, N.M., and Saprina and Jason Quinby of Alamogordo, N.M.; one sister, Dona Hamar of Portales, N.M.; 24 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today, May 13, at Reliant Transportation, 3700 Kermit Highway in Odessa.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales, N.M., with Michael Cheatham and other family members officiating. Burial will follow at the Portales cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: James Griffin, Jerry Griffin, Katrina Prince, Sheila Thornton, Michelle Cheatham, Tracy Allen and Saprina Quinby.
Honorary pallbearers will be his co-workers.

Gladys H. Rudd
Odessa - Gladys H. Rudd, 88, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Wednesday May 11, 2005, at Hospice House, in Odessa, Texas.
She was born in Nolan County, Texas, November 8, 1916, to Hettie and W.H. Howell. She and T.E. Rudd, married
July 9, 1932. They moved from Crane to Odessa in 1949. Gladys worked for Dr. Sam Vines until she retired in 1978, and she was very active with the West Park Baptist Church, until it closed. Mrs. Rudd was a member at the First Baptist Church.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Curtis Brewer officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.E. Rudd in 1988; her mother, Hettie McNeese; father, W.H. Howell; sisters, Melba Edinbarm and Leora Terry; brother, Lawrence Wayne Howell.
Mrs. Rudd is survived by her brother, W.R. Howell and his wife, Ilene, of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Trixie McCarty; sons, Jack Rudd and Eddie Rudd and wife, Carolyn, of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Joy Kincanon
Odessa - Joy Kincanon passed away on May 8, 2005, at her residence in Odessa, Texas.
Joy was born in Colorado City, Texas, December 10th, 1929, to Ruby and T.M. McKinney and worked as a homemaker and mother all her life. She married
Louis Kincanon July 10, of 1946, in Snyder, Texas, and very much enjoyed raising her two sons and two daughters.
Mrs. Kincanon was preceded in death by her mother Ruby McKinney, and her father T.M. McKinney, her sister Ruthie Timmons, and brother JR McKinney.
Joy is survived by her husband, Louis Kincanon and her children, son; Lonnie Kincanon, and his wife Chris of Sweetwater, Texas, daughter; Jo and her husband Jim Mitchell of Abilene, Texas, daughter; Sally and her husband Johnny Creek of Greenwood, Texas, son; Johnny Kincanon and his wife Julie of Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by one sister, Bobby Browning of Odessa, Texas, and one brother, Lonnie McKinney of Odessa, Texas. Her legacy is great with 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Graveside funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Sherry Madden Rhodes
Odessa - Sherry Madden Rhodes, 62, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005, at her residence.
She was born April 22, 1943, in El Dorado, Ark. to John and Vera Madden. She grew up in Andrews and later moved to Odessa. She was married
to Lowell Rhodes. She was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Crumrine of Odessa; brother, Steve Madden of Washington, Okla.; sister, Joan Phillips of Racine, Mo.; two grandchildren; two nieces; and five nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Rhodes cemetery in Penwell.

Patricia Darlene Bronaugh
Odessa - Patricia Darlene Bronaugh, 64, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005, in Boaz, Ala.

Jesse Sosa
Odessa - Jesse Sosa, 61, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Regency Hosptial.
He was born Aug. 1, 1943, in Grandfalls to Celso and Ramona Sosa. He was a forklift operator with General Tire and a Catholic.
His parents preceded him in death.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Felipa Sosa of Odessa; daughters, Becky Sosa Esparza and husband, Melecio, of Denton, and Christina Hernandez and husband, Jose Lewis, of Odessa; brother, Manuel Sosa of Lamesa; sisters, Socorro Sosa, Pat Rodriguez and Terry Mata, all of Denton, and Merced Mendoza, Juanita and Maria Caballero, all of Odessa; grandchildren, Jose Jesus Hernandez, Celso Jesus Sosa and Marissa A. and Natali Hernandez.
A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Cleaborn Monroe Schmitz
Odessa - When the storms beat loudest and I cry aloud for help, the master standeth by and whispers to my soul, “Lo, it is I”. Above the tempest wild, I hear Him say, “Beyond this darkness lies a perfect day. In every path of thine I lead the way.”
Cleaborn Monroe Schmitz was born in Friona, Texas on Nov. 18, 1934. Monroe passed away on May 7, 2005.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Curt and Onnie Schmitz; sister, Geneva Schmitz; and one stepson, Edy Whitmore Jr.
Monroe is survived by his wife, Sandra of Odessa; one son, Randy and wife, Melissa, of Midkiff; two daughters, Cathy Fields of Wolf City, Texas, and Lynn and husband Jeff Mullins of Austin; two stepdaughters, Wendy McSperitt of Thomas, Okla., and Sally and husband John Poteet of Stanton, Texas; one brother, Earl Schmitz and wife, Helen, of Muleshoe; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
“Monroe was the most honest man I have ever known and the strongest fortress in my life. I will miss him until the day I die, ” Sandra Schmitz.
Pallbearers will be: Monroe’s grandsons, Scott Fields, Brian Fields, Josh Schmitz, Jacob Schmitz, Chris Carroll, Brock McSperitt, Timmy McSperitt and Curtis Schmitz.

Cheryl Darlene Ward
Kermit - Cheryl Darlene Ward, 58, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
Cheryl was born in Kermit to Ellis and Doris Thomason. She married
Gary Ward in 1969 in Monahans.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her father, Ellis Thomason; and brother, Jackie Thomason.
Cheryl worked as a night assistant manager for Lowe’s Super Markets for many years. She was a homemaker and loved to accompany her husband to bowling tournaments and play games on the internet. The thing Cheryl loved most was spoiling her five grandchildren.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Gary Ward of Odessa. They have a son, Michael; two daughters, Leslyn Kelso and Jackie West; her mother, Doris Thomason of Odessa; and five grandchildren; Ashley, Jeremy, Megan, Emily and “Lizzy”, all of Odessa; one sister, Lisa K. Thomason and one brother, Gary W. Thomason and wife, Trudy. Cheryl is also survived by a host of relatives and friends scattered throughout the county.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. today, May 10, at the First Baptist Church in Kermit. Burial will be at Kermit cemetery.

Ada F. Roberts
MIDLAND - Ada Fairy Roberts went home to be with our lord and savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 10, 2005, after passing away at her residence.
She was born on April 23, 1931, to K.S. and Alice Roberts in Timpson, Texas, were she was raised and educated. She united in holy matrimony to Tilford Griffith, and to that union three children were born. Later she united in holy matrimony to Alvonso “Bud” Johnson, and to that union one child was born.
In 1951 she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, and later moved to Midland. Ada worked in private homes until her retirement in 1991. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Ada was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a former member of the Church of The Living God and was currently attending a Church of Christ in Midland.
Her parents K.S. and Alice Roberts, a brother precede her in death.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2005, at 11:00 am at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. O.J. Archie officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Elvetta and husband Marcus Bracy of Odessa, Texas, Judy Johnson of Midland, Texas. Two sons, William A. and wife Sheila Griffith of Midland, Texas, Ronnie R. Griffith of Tyler, Texas. Four sisters, Mae Rae Ansley, Jeslon V. Roberts both of Houston, Texas. Ella Ruth and husband Jerome Spann of Wichita Falls, Texas, La Dorris Roberts of Tyler, Texas. Two brothers, Phillip G. Roberts of Timpson, Texas, Ricky and wife Malanie Roberts of Tyler, Texas. Thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren. Three aunts, Sammie L. and husband Odell Caraway, of Timpson, Texas, Audra Roberts, Josie Roberts, all of Wichita Falls, Texas. And a host of family and friends.

John J. Arnet
Odessa - John J. Arnet, 86, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Crane Memorial Hospital.
He was born on October 27, 1918, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to David J. and Mary C. Arnet. Mr. Arnet retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 22, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Deacon Allen Neff. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, D.A. Bishop; a son, Charles Arnet; and a brother, George Arnet.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Arnet of Odessa; four sons, John J. Arnet Jr. and wife, Juanita, of Hewitt, Texas, David G. Arnet and wife, Patsy, of Loveland, Ohio, Stephen R. Arnet and wife, Roberta, of Sacramento, Calif., and Robert P. Arnet and wife, Pamela, of Mason, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Arnet of Midland, Texas, and Donna Gumm and husband, Vernon, of Norwood, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Jimmie Eugene Conger
Odessa - Jimmie Eugene Conger was born April 8, 1924, in Howe, Texas, to Hart and Ruby Conger, who both preceded him in death, and passed away Monday, July 18, 2005, in Odessa.
He is survived by brother, Franklin Conger of San Antonio; and his special friends and housemates of Mariah Flats, where he lived for 21 years, Mitsie Mashburn, Janet Courange, Janice Sanders, Geneva McKellips, Eddie Porter, Larry Waldrep, Byran Jackson, Bobby Anderson and Tom George.
Jimmie will be greatly missed. He was a very loving and kind person. Jimmie attended Crescent Park Baptist Church. He loved church and was a devout Christian. Jimmie was active in the Special Olympics and the ARC and loved to fish. He loved animals and also storms and lightening. Jimmie was employed by McDonalds, recently. He was a volunteer for the West Texas Food Bank, Meals On Wheels and the Salvation Army.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Odessa Funeral Home.
J.D. Kevil
San Angelo - J.D. Kevil, 85, of San Angelo, passed away Monday, July 18, 2005, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Johnson’s Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with the Rev. Dr. Jack Hunnicutt officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Reed Thoss, Juan Mendosa, Steve Hargrove, Jerry Baker, Brad Baker, Bryan Baker, Brian Marschall and Charlie Beasley.
Mr. Kevil was born Dec. 4, 1919, in Marie, Texas. He graduated from Norton High School. He married
Marceil Mullins on Feb. 9, 1951, in Abilene. Before his retirement, he owned KP Builders in Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marceil; one brother, Leonard Kevil; and a nephew, Harold Baker.
Mr. Kevil is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Reed Thoss of Houston; two grandchildren, Andrew Thoss and Natalie Thoss, both of Houston; two sisters, Louise Baker and Myra Kevil, both of San Angelo; a nephew, Jerry Baker of Menard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
